81  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [PC/PS3] Final Fantasy XIV (Characters/Servers in first post) on: September 03, 2013, 12:45:28 AM
Just as a counterpoint, I bought it Friday evening and have had a blast with it. Yes I have been on a different server from everyone I know and getting in can be a pain, but the game is worth it in my opinion. Once they get the login issues squared away, it will be even better. My only complaint with the game is that grouping is an absolute requirement at certain checkpoints in the main story. Consider this punishment for the joy that is playing DPS.

Serious question, if I multi-class as a healer, can I go through the dungeons as a healer and the progression through the main story will apply to the character in general? it makes sense to me, but before I give it any more thought I wanted to be sure. It's like having alt-itis but it all kind of helps the same character. smile

hmm is that all? biggrin Yeah, I got some playtime in this weekend.

Can you have character in both JP and NA regions? I'm impatient and want to start in JP, but don't want to if it will lock me out of NA/EU.

'fraid not..at least not the same character anyway

there will be a service where you can jump worlds later on down the line "for a price",but not sure when that will happen

Sorry I didn't make that question clear, I'm asking if I can create a character on JP and then later create another character on EU/NA whenever it is possible.

GTA V - Yeah, can't wait.
Batman: Arkham Origins - Can wait even less.. shame they wasted all that time on MP or maybe I'd have it already!
Assassin's Creed IV - This one I am not in a huge rush for, but I will buy and play it.
Elder Scrolls Online - I'm about 150 hours into Skyrim. I need more!

I would be waiting in a queue to play FFXIV, but they won't sell it to me, so...

Skyrim! My second character, started to do the expansion content and the other side of the war, just surpassed the original in level, though not damage output. Yes, my second character was going full destruction... she now has 76 destruction... and 100 archery and 95 sneak. Sneaky Archer forever!
96  Gaming / Analog Gaming / Re: No Zombicide topic here!?! (Season 3 announced) on: August 30, 2013, 01:52:06 PM
I'm curious about competive play (it addresses the co-op alpha player problem) but more I would be looking at what they come up with for tiles and new options for scenarios. Season 1 stuff has become stale. I know Season 2 is going to make things a lot more interesting with Toxic and Berserkers as well as many more possible board layouts, but eventually we'll need more!

They hint at different spawning rules also which I am curious about.

I'm sure I'll get it whatever it turns out to be, more survivors you know, because two dozen isn't enough! I may need more fuzz boxes.

http://guillotinegames.com/en/blog-season-3-preview-competitive-mode

We haven't gotten our hands on season 2 (shipping now), but they's just announced season 3, which introduces competitive play.

Zombicide is the third most expensive game investment I have made, of course I'll continue pumping the cash in. It will take a couple more seasons to pass up heroscape and decades to pass up Magic: The Gathering. slywink

I have a friend at work that went from respiratory therapist to DBA and his wife is a nurse of decades who just finished her BS. I think he might have a unique perspective. I've asked him to pass along some input.

Quote
I think Nursing may be the better choice, primarily because they have a better lobby with the government (they make more money).  Respiratory Therapists (RT) donít have as much face time with the patients, as they have to cover a large portion of the hospital.  RTs walk\stand\run constantly.  Even in intensive care, you may have 5 ventilator patients to take care of (and they donít talk).  The nurseís patients are in a single area, and there are chairs.  Nurses have more patient\family contact. RTís are focused on the more critical patients, so their time must be much more divided.  Plus, the RT can do some unpleasant things to the patients, so they are not always happy to see them.  I went for months where my only break was the elevator ride between floors (I rode the elevator up, and took the stairs down).

There are rules for the minimum number of nurses in a hospital, but none for Respiratory Therapists.  Some hospitals have eliminated all respiratory therapists.  Most hospitals are requiring Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) to be hired, which is a full 4 years.  There are online nursing programs, but most are for RNís that need to get their BSN to keep their job (Diana was one).

There are 2 year respiratory therapy programs Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT), but the pay is not very good.  The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is the preferred way to go, but most are going to a bachelorís degree programs (at least the good schools).

The one positive about RT is when the patient poops themself, you can leave the room until it is cleaned up (the nurses have to clean it up).  The rooms of respiratory patients generally smell better.

The King, the Mice and the Cheese

Mice invade, eat the cheese. King asks his wise men for help.
Cats gets rid of mice. Cats are annoying.
Dogs get rid of cats. Dogs are annoying.
Lions get rid of dogs. Lions are annoying.
Elephants get rid of Lions. Elephants are annoying.
Mice get rid of Elephants.

King says screw it and makes peace with the Mice.

Moral of the story: stick with the squirrel, it's probably not going to kill you.

Thanks guys. I read through the test drive and the adventure kronovan linked. It might be a bit dark for the kiddo, but it's simple enough to change a few things and make it the same adventure but with fewer murders and nooses... not that castle ravenloft is all rainbows and unicorns.

The system does seem pretty straightforward, though it will take some getting used to the switch from hit points.

I think it would help to see it played a bit, I wonder if youtube would be able to help me there. Everything is on youtube.

Unfortunately I can't refer back to the old thread where I think it might have been mentioned, but where do you start with Savage Worlds? With Pathfinder there is the start box, with Savage worlds there is an incredibly long list of books and PDFs. Note: I am not interested in PDFs really. I looked at one of the books at my FLGS and they are pretty massive and it's not clear what I need.

smoking, drinking, vandalism, shoplifting, trespassing, whatever they call it when you flee from the police to avoid a speeding ticket

OK, the absolutely dumbest thing I did involved a 10 speed bicycle, wet roads, bad brakes and a highway. Basically all I did was run a stop sign  at a blind intersection on my bike... across a busy highway. You know those car chase scenes in the movies where they fly through intersections to much honking and screeching and fist shaking? Yeah, it was like that only it wasn't a city with slow traffic, it was a 55mph highway and I was on a bike. One car panic braked it's way into a 360 slide into one of the huge ditches by the highway. The driver was ok, but the car was totaled. I didn't find this out until later because I kept on keeping on back to my house... which was only about a block away. I found out when the police knocked on my door about 20 minutes later, while the adrenaline was still pumping. I guess the good thing was one of the local guys (that highway also saw it's share of state troopers). I delivered his newspaper on that very same bicycle every day. He told me it was bad to leave the scene of an accident and about what happened and scared the living crap out of me. He never told my dad. I guess he didn't have any way to prove it was me, but he knew it was. I wasn't exactly incognito in a town of 600 people where I delivered half their papers and was top of the class.

I don't think I ever told anyone about that. If anyone I am ever interviewing with ever sees this, I am making it up as an attention grab and this never happened.
