Dracula in space and you ask "where could it go wrong?"

Just in that statement it has already gone so terribly wrong.

As of this week I'm still getting stuff delivered overnight, two day turnaround in total. I had two of tuesday's new releases on tuesday.

Up through the end of last week I've been getting the same 2 day turnaround. We'll see if I get the new releases tomorrow.

It's nice to be grandfathered into the 4 at a time plan. biggrin

At work I do. Very few of the places I go have pop-ups though. (the "choice" here is I could be doing work rather than browsing slywink )

Can you buy it anywhere or do I have to go to some moisturizing product counter in a department store?  I'm not sure I could handle the embarrassment if I had to do that.

Basically, the new-model PS2 is about as small as it's going to get at this point for a DVD-based system.  Add in the necessary screen and controls too, and you have an absolutely gargantuan "handheld" system.

Check out the portable PS2... yah a bit too big biggrin you'll notice the DVD drive is next to nothing tho

4016  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bard's Tale on: December 08, 2004, 06:27:00 PM
I couldn't stand it, not really sure why. The dialog and combat started to bother me after just a couple hours. All the zone transitions got annoying as well as the perspective (fighting under trees is not fun).
4017  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / KoTOR 2 : The Sith Lords Impressions on: December 07, 2004, 09:48:20 PM
Definitely on my must have list, going to *TRY* to wait for the PC version this time. I failed miserably when it came to waiting for the first one, but the load times stopped me about half way throguh my "evil" play-through.
4018  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Which games will you pack away with your system? on: December 07, 2004, 09:43:27 PM
Hmmm... once the system has been replaced, I'm pretty sure it and all the games that go along with it will go to ebay or some friend with young kids that wouldn't know they are out of date games.

Of course, I generally wait at least a year after a hot new system comes out before I buy it (I bought my xbox summer 2003, my ps2 last month). I want there to be tons of discounted and used games available before I switch and then I will buy games like crazy in the following months.
4019  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PC-PR] Ubisoft LAUNCHES Chessmaster┬« 10th edition on: December 07, 2004, 07:17:55 PM
Ok, so I am a bit behind. I got bored of the other games on my cell phone and started playing the java chess game on it. I realized how much I enjoyed (and how bad I am) at chess. The cell phone version takes forever to make a move so I decided to pick this up for play at home and hopefully to improve my game.

I played around with it a bit last night, playing a tournament against the lowest level AI opponents. There are definitely some very different playstyles among the AI opponents I saw and the worst of them was pretty challenging at my novice skill level. The graphics are absolutely beautiful with a couple dozen different sets of pieces to choose from. The basic AIs at least decide on their moves pretty much instantly, which is nice.

After getting my butt handed to my by the lowest rated AI opponents, I decided to go through some of the "learning" parts of the program. The basics are all covered, movements and such, but I already knew all that. There were some scenarios that were pretty cool, like they given you a board at a certain point in the game and challenge you to get checkmate in 2 moves and it seemed to have a lot of those scenarios, not sure if they were truly random or from a large set of options.

I've never really picked up on the strategy behind chess and I'm hopeful this game will help me out in that regard. I'm a relatively smart fellow and do pretty well at tactical and strategic combat games, so I should be capable, I just haven't ever given it a lot of time to sink in or had any real help with it.

Excellent presentation, appears to be very challenging, thumbs up.

4022  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Bards Tale Impressions on: December 01, 2004, 03:10:53 AM
Quote from: "Gratch"
My experience with Bard's Tale:

-  1 hour:  "Damn, this game is hilarious!  Spot-on voice acting, some funny as hell moments, and a cool combat and summon system.  Exactly like Baldur's Gate:  DA, but with a sense of humor.  This is perfect!"

-  3 hours:  "Y'know, the combat is kind of annoying.  If I'm ever under the scenery I can't see what I'm doing.  But hey, I got a couple new summons and I just laughed my ass off at the 3 goblins having an oompa-loompa moment."

I think I was at about the same point when I put the game away, dunno if I will get back to it. Bleh. I found the humor up to that point to be pretty lame... I kept waiting for the laughs but they never came.
4023  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / How often do you reinstall Windows? on: November 30, 2004, 04:38:28 PM

I don't install crap on my PC tho, other than Trillian, games and a couple of productivity type apps. I generally skip demos and freeware/shareware of any kind and I don't surf sites of a questionable nature and I think that goes a long ways to preserving the sanctity of my Windows install.

The only times I have ever done windows installs was on new PCs or Windows upgrades.
4024  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Pirates! - A few thoughts... on: November 29, 2004, 09:58:23 PM
Misguided: For me personally the difference is the number of alternatives available. If I didn't have anything else begging to be played, perhaps I could play Pirates! for weeks on end as I did with the original (and as I mentioned in my earlier post).

The fact is, I own at least 20 games I have yet to play at all that have been piling up since I got into the WoW alpha a year ago.

Back then I had no options that I hadn't also played for hundreds of hours.
4025  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Tabasco hot sauce on: November 29, 2004, 09:08:11 PM
Quote from: "Xmann"
ya i'm one of those folks who can eat anything regardless of how hot it is.  i usually use Blairs Death sauce when i want to set my dumper on fire and Tabasco Habanero or Chipotle for flavoring.  Tabasco is the best all around hot sauce for seasoning, bar none

I used to be like that, but then one day this summer I was eating a lip-searing hot wing and thought to myself, "why the hell am I doing this, you KNOW what it will feel like tomorrow morning"... From that day forward, depending on the food I have stuck with Tabasco and Frank's Red Hot... much better flavor than the liquid suicide I used to put myself through.

I've played one pirate to retirement over 6-7 hours and I don't feel any real desire to play again. The few hours I played it were a blast, but I don't see any replay value.

I played the original for probably a hundred hours, but back then my only game choices were Pirates!, SimCity and some (very cool) surgery simulation.

1 a : to be or become feeble, weak, or enervated b : to be or live in a state of depression or decreasing vitality
2 a : to become dispirited : PINE <languishing in prison> b : to suffer neglect <the bill languished in the Senate for eight months>
3 : to assume an expression of grief or emotion appealing for sympathy

So bored...
4031  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sid Meier's Pirates Impressions? on: November 25, 2004, 03:54:52 PM
You're probably going to find Journeyman too easy as well. I started to feel a bit of pain at Adventurer (the next difficulty level up), the biggest difference I see being that crew from captured ships rarely join me and it's hard to find crew to recruit outside of my home ports. The fencing and dancing are still quite winnable.

Yes, in my excitement to paint the body I forgot to leave the masking on the windows... oops.

I'm the king of not following through. I built this sweet car, I even scouted out some local tracks and hobby shops... then I put it in the closet.

It goes well with the 30 or so console and PC games I own and have never played... and the guitar that I can play, barely... and the snowboard in the closet, next to the roller blades, golf clubs, tennis racket, rock climbing gear... oy... shoot me before I do it again!
4034  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I just played a Nintendo DS on: November 22, 2004, 07:07:00 PM
Played metroid on the DS at gamestop over lunch... with my left hand holding the device, controlling directional movement and shooting and my right hand using the stylus on the lower screen I found it to be the most responsive console shooter ever. Of course that was only possible because the console was mounted on a pedestal and the game was pretty dark and the jumping puzzle appears impossible, but it was still pretty cool.

Not in.

Having given it more thought, I believe I always referred to my avatar as "I" when I played EQ. I think that helped a lot with immersion. smile
