4001  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So I type fast - leave me be! on: January 21, 2005, 07:07:00 PM

I just did a test at www.typingtest.com and these were my results.

48 wpm on that test and I type with 4 fingers (plus thumb on the space bar) and have to look at my fingers from time to time.

Imagine if I could actually learn how to type properly!

Never knew you where a chess head, id love a match one day when you have the time.  im gonna go check out that site now.

I love chess but I'm not terribly good. Win or lose, I usually learn something. The thing I like about the site I linked is that you don't have to worry about having enough time as the games generally take place over several days. Not the best place for the impatient, but if you subscribe you can play dozens of games at a time so you aren't always waiting for others to move. Non-subscribers are limited to 6 games at a time.

If you sign up send a challenge to coopasonic

You can reply on the post I made in the Off-topic forum a few weeks back to avoid taking this thread too far off topic.

'Unprecendented' crosses the line from bullshit marketing hyperbole to ouright lie. Numerous games over the past 5 years have shipped with a large stable of cars and the 230 number has even been exceeded by a little independant cult classic game on the PS1 called gran turismo 2.

Unprecedented... No prior game has had that exact list of 230 cars. It's unprecedented! See, not a lie. They didn't say most cars ever, you just read it that way, which would be their intent. slywink

Has anyone actually gone and seen the movie?

I've seen it... geenrally I am pretty easy to please with movies. As long as it is fun, I don't mind plotholes and shaky acting.  For instance, I enjoyed Blade 3 and Daredevil. I simply liked Daredevil being brought to life, despite my disappointment in their choice for actor (not an action star Ben, sorry).

I went in to Elektra without any real expectations other than what is in this thread, I didn't read any of the reviews (and still haven't). I found the movie to be hmmm... lukewarm. There wasn't enough action to keep it fun, there wasn't enough of Sidn.. err.. Jennifer's skin to keep me interested. The story wasn't enough to cover the shortcomings in other departments.

To sum it up, bleh.

I'm not sure how "good" of pads you got, but there's a pretty wide variety available if you ever want to upgrade.  All the way up to metal monstrosities that replicate the arcade machine.  The pads I have are Buy & Shop's DX pads, which have 3" foam padding inside.  Works quite well.

Enjoy!

The Konami pad that came with the bundle seems very serviceable (very thin compared to a 3" pad!). I haven't had it fail me yet. The only problem I have is that I play on an area rug and the non-slip surface of the pad isn't really very grippy against the rug and the pad slowly rotates clockwise as I play. I have to adjust it between songs.. not that big a deal, but annoying. I'm trying to think of a way to keep it still without messing up the rug.

as the owner of a 20GB iPod, i still can't understand the appeal of the iPod Mini...unless you absolutely have to have a cute color.

36% smaller by volume, 16% cheaper by retail price and a lot of us simply don't have a need for 20GB of storage.

I have a 6 disc MP3/CD player in my car with only one disc in it because I don't really have more than 650-700MB of songs (12 albums, about 10 hours, in my case) I care to listen to regularly... why do I need capacity for 5,000 songs?

a 1GB Flash player would be about perfect for me...

I know, I know my man card is in Jeopardy just by posting this... I'm wondering if anyone here has checked it out (it's more fun than you imagine... really!)

Back in the summer, my company's IT department had a "fun day" at Dave & Busters, free lunch, games, drinks, billiards, etc and someone asked me if I wanted to try DDR. I gave it a shot and found myself enjoying it... though not exactly great at it. I wanted to play more but found my miserable failures at anything beyond the lowest difficulty levels to be a bit embarrassing...

Much to my wife's dismay, I put a DDR game with pad on my christmas list. I didn't get it, but I did get a Best Buy gift card, so I bought myself DDR Ultramix 2 with dance pad for xbox and I spent a couple of hours with it this weekend. It's a lot of fun. The interface is pretty simple, the difficulty ranges from "yawn", to "holy crap how can a  single human ever possibly hit all those steps" and everything in between. A lot of techno/dance music duh, which isn't really my thing, but isn't too bad.

How could I like a game so much and only play it for two hours over an entire weekend? Holy crap is it a lot of exercise... that's a very good thing for me. slywink

Haven't seen any specific dates, you can sign up on the website to be notified when it is available so I'm guessing they don't have a release date.

My setup took about 20 minutes initially and the rest is just figuring out which buttons I'm missing and finding a place for them. It only takes a minute or two to make changes when you find you need to modify something.

My wife has only allocated a small space in the entertainment center for consoles and with the xbox in there I have precious little room for another console, even one as small as the cube. Also, there are no "must have" GC games for me. The only Nintendo exclusive I really miss is bomberman and that's not enough reason to get a GC. There are a number of games I would have to buy if I had a compelling reason to buy a GC, but there just isn't that ONE game, like GTA:SA for the PS2 or the pile of great racing games for the XBox.

Um.. I don't understand how you people do this. When I get a game it's opened and in it's particular game system within hours of me reaching my house.

95% of the games I buy, I buy used, and generally during a Gamestop buy 2 get 1 free sales. The new games I buy are either games I must have and play now or during the Toys'R'Us buy 2 get 1 free sales.

Generally, when I game hits $25 or less used and there is a b2g1 sale if I've given it a thought before I'll pick it up. 3 games for $30-$50 (8% sales tax about offsets the 10% gamestop discount card) is irresistable to me... now if I could just get time to play them.

I also have about a dozen PC games I've yet to play... it's the damn gogamer shipping deal. If I'm going to buy 1 PC game, I find 2 more I want and they get added to the backlog. .. right behind all the console games hehe.

Silent Storm would be my other suggestion, though that depends on how "not the best" that laptop is. Silent Storm is a bit old now, but may still be a system hog for you.
