Nov 2005 UI had no kids but my wife had just told me she was pregnant. I bought a Mountain Dew free every 5 minutes 360 on ebay. Now I have 7 and 4 year old boys and I preordered the XB1 direct from Microsoft. Same job, bigger house in the same area, just more kids. biggrin

If anyone hears about a Kinect 2.0 extension cable, let me know. The included cable is about 10 feet too short for my needs and as far as I can tell MS doesn't have an extension available.

Finally got to play some yesterday. It is cool to see names I recognize on the track. I've never seen Hark. I guess he may not be on my friends list anymore (or maybe he is too good for the game to incluide him). Sparhawk is the only name I recognize that has beaten me. If his Drivatar is getting full payouts, he shoul dbe making bank.

To the rest of you, I apologize if you see me on the track, just try to stay away from me. biggrin

Bought. I may need to move it to the head of the reading list for timeliness.

If you read it today it will be right about when the story takes place in relation to Real World Events. Just don't mind the actual day of the week.

It's about an hour's read. That would be funny if it coincided with real world - and maybe a zombie apoc is just what the capitol needs.

I was disappointed to find the real crisis did not end as your version did. Also the bonus story...  saywhat I can't decide if I like the way your mind works or I hope I never meet you in a dark alley.
7  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: 30 days until launch. Which system are you getting? on: October 17, 2013, 09:15:45 PM
On day one I'll have an XBOne with:
Forza 5
Dead Rising 3
Assassin's Creed IV
Need for Speed
Skylanders: Swap Force

Whichever of those games don't come out on day one, I won't have on day one. I only bought the PS3 for the blu-ray player and for the Uncharted games and that lost my interest on the 3rd iteration. I don't know what will bring me to buy the ps4, but I assume something will eventually.

Yeah, from that list it's 2-0 in XB1's favor for me.

Is the Kinect integration worth the money? What about the speed / install times of games?

Both boast a lot, but this isn't buying a product that's already on the market - it's investing in a concept. Whether the reality shakes out is anyone's guess.

I've heard the PS4 does a terrible job of playing Forza!

I am feeling better about my preorder now that I see Skylanders Swap Force will be a "release window" title. My kid would be very, very sad if his ability to play Skylanders went away.

He has to wait a month after it releases for current gen consoles to get it, though. I'm waiting for the PS4 version myself, but it will stink seeing the toys out there and not be able to do anything with them.

A bit late getting back to this, but this will be a christmas thing either way so no hardship there. The big question will be what happens between the new system arriving and Christmas when I am dying to connect it and play Forza 5.

Seeing that makes me wish I had kept the little plastic inserts that come with the ship.  Pretty soon here I am probably going to pull the trigger on that custom foam thing.

I considered it, but they increase the storage space a bit too much for me. My ships move around a bit in their plano boxes, but I am ok with that. On the flip side I have to use 3 plano boxes to hold pretty much the same amount of stuff (I have 1 of each SKU and a second base set)... though mine come in a handy dandy carrying case. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E3FKTO

Quote from: Razgon on September 13, 2013, 06:59:51 AM

In Denmark we have Religion as part of normal school. Its taught for 4 years and covers all major religions, their belief systems, and their history. Since religion is a major part of eveyday life, even for people without faith in any of them, its important to understand in order to understand basic human motivations and society at large as well.

In high school in the late 80s in rural New York (yes, there is such a thing), I took an elective class called Mythology. I would love to see what would happen if such a class were taught in Texas today (I have lived in Texas for 15 years, both my kids were born in Texas and will graduate from Texas schools someday). It covered the sorts of mythologies you would expect like Greek, Roman and Norse, but it also covered a few other mythologies, like Christianity and Judaism. You can probably imagine my bible thumping aunt's reaction when I told her about my teenage revelation on the similarities between Christianity and Greek Mythology. I wonder if they still teach that class and if they still include active religions.

I went to church on and off until I was 12 or 13, sometimes with my mom, sometimes with grandma, sometimes all by myself. Eventually I stopped going but couldn't explain why. That class talked about why religion is so important and the innate need to believe in something greater and I finally had an explanation of the behavior of others I could understand and didn't need to explore religion any more.

That is the kind of religious education I would like to see... that will probably never happen here.

I am about 60% through. The first few chapters were interesting, but you totally captured me with Peaches. Awesome. Seriously.

My only complaint is I have seen about half a dozen funny word replacements, where it's obvious you wanted one word but another appears. I'm trying to remember an example now but they are all escaping me. One is perspective vs prospective. It happens on forums, IMs, SMS, etc but I really don't want to see it in a book.

I find the world interesting enough and I'm really interested to see how it turns out. I am generally more of a traditional fantasy fan, but I really like the fantasy in a modern setting. I haven't really read much like this before.

Level 19 in a crafting profession?  Yeah, not sure that's gonna happen.

If you are going to do it, I would go with weaver. Tons of recipes for the first time recipe bonus and weaver makes crafting gear so it helps itself.  I have 18 woodworker and ~13 leatherworker, just starting weaver (10 or 11 now) because it was at the last city I hit. lots and lots of moko grass... I mean stupid amounts, but it is going pretty quickly. Goldsmith is also pretty nice for the gear you don't seem to get through quests early.

OO is now full of fuddy duddies that won't spend more than $6 for a game.

On the stability front, I was able to log in 3 times yesterday with no waiting or errors. I also decided to just stick with the server I am on and if eventually there is an opportunity to move somewhere that has people with names I would recognize, I will do that. My offer on the house just got accepted.   headbang  Now the fate of whether or not I own a launch PS4 is entirely dependent on finalizing the mortgage details to see exactly how much my monthly payments will end up being.

Jebus.  Made the horrible mistake of doing both the home inspection and the consultation about the mortgage details of the same day.  As much as I'd love to be part of the launch excitement of either console, thoughts of closing costs, home repairs/upgrades, appliances, and surviving Christmas (winter is coming...), I'm thinking I can still milk this generation of consoles a wee bit longer.  Maybe this next year is a good time to look at all the high profile titles I missed during their initial run.

Amazon PS4 preorder... cancelled.   crybaby

There is an obvious answer here and I am not sure why you haven't thought of it... make more money!
