1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/PS3] Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) on: November 04, 2012, 11:41:24 PM
My lost points issue solved itself. When I started the game after that post, #4 and #3 challenges were available and then I quickly unlocked and took out the other 2. I'm the Most Wanted.

Re: The police chases, they were kind of tough the first couple times, but I have no trouble with them now, even going back to slower, non-upgraded cars. It can help to take out some of the pursuit vehicles.  You also don't want it to escalate too high until you have re-inflating tires. Maybe drive a faster car if the normal cruisers are keeping up with you. I'd suggest the Gallardo, Corvette or Viper.
2  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/360/PS3] Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) on: November 04, 2012, 09:56:12 PM
Playing it on the PC, it can never stay connected to autolog and it has lost 200k+ points for me. I'm driving around the Porsche 918 (MW#5 car, I think) and it tells me I need 20k points to unlock MW #7... I'm afraid if I keep losing points I won't be able to get to the top at all, because I can't get the 12k for 1st in races a second time. Going to run out of races. :o

Ignoring that bug, this may be my favorite NFS since Most wanted.

While the last two planets had lots of quest givers they all indicated "You must complete more missions" so I could only do my class related quests.  Even Guss has had the mission triangle for the last few planets but I still get the "More Missions" message when I try to talk to him about it.

I had the same problem... then I realized I was dumb. That message means your quest log is full. Drop some of those quests you've overleveled, space quests, heroics etc.

I've played as many as 30 correspondence games simultaneously without issue. First you can use the notes panel if you need to remember a strategy or to watch for something. Second, history doesn't really matter, only the current position matters. I think it better switching games because it forces you to reevaluate the entire board rather than get complacent about potential threats that have been idle for a few moves.

The new patch went live today, which means the Free to Play version is available to be downloaded (for PC or Mac).

The F2P thing isn't prominently displayed on the website yet to keep the influx of new accounts reasonable for now, but it is available for everyone (from the main site's Game Info page) and should be advertised much more towards the end of the month I guess.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm installing. I played in the beta and it wasn't for me, but I'm curious if my lego fanatic 5 year old could play it. It's nice that he can try it out for free. smile

As I understand it, the Fit comes with option packages, not a la carte options. You can buy a base or a Sport, and there is no menu of factory-installed options to add to either one. Of course, we bought one off the lot so our dealer might have just been uninterested in talking about options...but my internet shopping bears this out.

All Hondas are this way, there are a few trim levels and then all you have are dealer adds.

Regarding who can complete quests, some of them have multiple "primary" roles listed. So I'm not sure if you basically get to choose which to take or if you can actually play a combination of all of them to work together for the goal. I'm purposely avoiding these quests to be sure I had all of the primaries listed.

Before embarking on the quest you will choose any primary and secondary characters and those will be who you can control while working on the quest.

I've played through a couple missions with the blacksmith, up to level 4 there and I'm revising my opinion somewhat. Some of this is repeating what others have said.

If you loved the prior sims games, depending on what you really loved about them, this may not be the game for you. What makes it different is what I am growing to like. There's still something of a sandbox nature to it, but it's a guided sandbox. With the other sims games I eventually got bored of setting my own goals. With this one I can pick from a list of goals or do my own thing. Yes you have to be on a quest to be playing, but you can generally start a quest and then ignore it for an extended period of time.

If you liked the relationship building of the other games that's largely unchanged here, with the added bonus of being able to duel and kill anyone you don't like. slywink

If you liked maxing out professions, that's here and probably better. There is more variety, not just writing novel after novel until you are the great american novelist.

If you liked designing houses from scratch, wait for the next traditional sims game.

Depends on your school how soloable it is. Death is easy mode. slywink Most can solo 80% of the content. The other 20% you can generally get pick-up groups for. When I got to content I couldn't handle that way I stopped play. That was at 50th level, the max at the time.

Seriously Death mages are awesome (and perhaps a bit boring to play).

If you have a soul quest, closing a Rift will get you a soul shard. Once you have the soul shard click on the net in your inventory or besides the quest in the tracker and it will spawn the soul. Kill it and you've unlocked that soul for use in any of your roles. You can only have one soul quest at a time so it requires bouncing back and forth to meridian.

Yeah I think the soul system allows you to do much the opposite. You can be very specialized or a jack of some trades and a lot of things in between. You can spend 50 points in one soul if that's what you like or split 31 in two souls or spread thin in 3 souls. And you can do all three with roles. Justicar is probably as close as you'll come to doing all three and then you're just half-assing it. slywink

Serpent Lantern isn't bad at all. Both adventure packs are pretty decent. What are they charging for it (lifetime so I don't know/get it for free)?

I rerolled last week and am about to hit 32 on the new guy. it's almost boring I'm a total blender. My PBAoE damage is off the charts. I duoed Burial grounds/chamber whatever, just me and some pet spec/healer. I did have to switch to a defensive spec for the boss. 207k HPs takes a while even with my ridiculous damage. In a nutshell, it's a graphical depiction of the usual M:TG card game, with a little turned based strategy mixed in.

I think that description simplifies it a bit. A lot of the terminology is the same, but it plays out much differently than the card game. I played through the very brief tutorials and then through the chapter 1 solo play. Chapter 1 was almost mind-numbingly easy and was completed in about an hour. I hope the other solo content is longer. I'll probably buy chapter 2 just to see. I have 550 Sony Cash. I don't know where it came from, but I have it. slywink

Turning Debris' statement sideways, it's basically a turn based tactical combat game with MtG flavor. Your planeswalker and summoned creatures have damage, defense, attack range, movement range, initiative (or something like that) and potentially special abilities. If an attack is made in melee, the opponent can counter-attack if they are not defending (ignoring vigilance). This simulates the attack/defense matchup in the card game, but not exactly. If you kill the opponent it does no damage to you. Also, damage to creatures is not healed between rounds, it carries over. There is no counter-attack to ranged attacks. Also, attacks can be crits and do extra damage, so just because a 20 attack mob is attacking your guy with 30 health left, you aren't necessarily safe.

Speaking of rounds, there aren't really rounds, each mob on the field has an initiative that is used to set order of action. Faster mobs will get turns more often. The left side of the screen shows the order of action and it's important to keep an eye on it.

You generate increasing amounts of mana each turn based on the balance of your deck. Mana is very predictable, you'll never be mana screwed.

As debris stated, this will get expensive if you want more color options. The starter decks are all 2 color decks and you will get a couple new cards from the free campaign, but after that you are spending money to get more cards either through boosters or the auction house. They call it an auction house, but it looks like straight sales.

Single Player content. As I said before the free chapter took about an hour and was really easy. Each chapter appears to have 5 missions and a card reward at the end. They are $5. For that price I hope they start taking longer. The card reward is not tailored to your colors. The chapters are sequential, you must buy and complete the prior to do the next.

Talents. Your planeswalker has talents similar to diablo or WoW. When I hit 6th level I got a talent point. The talents are incremental improvements, but I could see high level characters having a significant advantage. 10% chance for green summons to do 10 extra damage on attack isn't huge but add that to a bunch of other talent points and you can see where this is headed. Talents are organized by color so you should probably focus on one, which may be another reason why you wouldn't branch out in decks of other colors. This could have a serious impact on drafts. I may be very strong on white, but I'm not seeing white rares in the draft, what do I do?!

That's enough for now. I did friend Hark last night but after I finished the tutorial and campaign he was gone. I haven't tried any multi myself. I'm guessing he has. I also saw he had something on the auction house, so I'm guessing he can tell us if boosters look like the card game boosters. smile

I'd love to see trading in the game, instead of the auction house.

Quote from: coopasonic
I played a bunch more over the weekend and I even spent some money on it to see a  bit more of what's available. On the single player side, I bought all the available chapters and I definitely ran into more challenges a bit later on. I also bought some packs so I could try a draft tournament.

The draft was a disaster. I put together a pretty decent white/green deck (25 card minimum - not as small as it seems since there are no lands), but as soon as I started building an advantage in the first match I got a message that an error had occurred and I had to restart to continue. The game was broken. I could navigate the interface, but nothing I did had any effect. The second match I played to completion, but got raped by a black/blue deck that managed to keep my 60/100 elite archer from killing anything. Did I mention that I love the elite archer? slywink

There was no third match and I think there was supposed to be. No idea what happened there. It seems like it's just plain broken.

I sold a couple of the cards I got in the draft on the auction house for enough gold to play a couple more drafts, but given what happened, I don't think I'll try that until I see a few more patches. Also the draft time limit is SHORT if it's your first draft. 30 seconds goes by way too fast when you have to scroll down to see the cards and click on each card to see the details if you don't know them by the name.

I'm half way through the final single player chapter and once that's done I'm not sure what else I'll be doing. I have a few folks on my friends list, but other than knowing they are online I don't know what the list is doing for me. I can't challenge from the list or message from the list, the only option seems to be "remove from friends list". Gee thanks. I'm not sure there's even any direct chat option. I guess I should look for some documentation.
