Seems to me the new format favors the guys more than the girls,  and I base this solely on the assumption that the largest base of voters are tween/teenage girls who vote for guys more than girls.  It would be interesting to see the voting results if they only took the 3 highest vote getters and see how many gals would make the cut.  I do hate the new format as well, I'd have liked to see Drops of Jupiter and Bette Davis Eyes girls get in there for more chances.  Oh well I suppose the wild card may allow for that.
1163  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Anyone play Eschalon: Book 1 ? on: February 23, 2009, 08:57:48 AM
Finished up just a moment ago,  really enjoyed the game.  I played an assassin character up to level 15 and total play time was 24.4 hours.  I did get off track on the main story line at some point and had to take my powerful guy back to some lower level areas to pick up a missing item.  Plenty of fun though, I rarely finish this type of game but this one had me hooked.  I would like to see a larger loot table for the next version, I don't know how many gloves of skullduggery I found and sold but it was a lot and I never ran across much else for magical leather gloves.

I really dislike Noxious Attention Whore Tatiania  or NAWT, can't wait until she is gone.  Alexis was ok and Gokey in the pimp spot did fine as well, the others all seemed very very poor and I couldn't watch their entire performances.  I agree that the format seems contrived but it will be interesting to see how the last chance round goes.

You guys are great - I thought the game was pretty damn boring.

If I was Dick LeBeau, I would have loved it.

36 yards a quarter isn't all that interesting to me.

Sorry if I offended the football Gods in here again.

I have to agree here, too many 1 yard and a cloud of dust (snow) plays.  Both defenses were great but I'd like to see creative offense go against a stout defense not boring stuff like we saw in the AFC game here.  I hope the Cardinals can continue with some intricate plays to go against the Steelers D.

You're right.  He was born on Corsica.  My apologies to all islanders for mixing up the order of his stays.  And thank you for being the only one to get into the spirit of Millen bashing.

Obviously I failed my colorful language check.  I've gotten people arguing about exile and pride and HD quality when we should be arguing about how much worse Millen makes the NBC broadcast.  How many years until NBC is at the bottom of the heap?

No idea on how long it will take but I'm sure we'll know when the bottom has been reached when NBC replaces the peacock with a Detroit Lions symbol.

Contrary to the name, I don't enjoy Zinfandel wines, the name stems like many others from a game.  Jump into the way back machine to the date September 25th 1997 where in Ultima Online launched and I joined the Napa server.  Deciding to name my archer Zinfan Dale (didn't like Del for some reason or I just couldn't speel) was a quick choice and that name as been my forum moniker ever since except for one other board where I chose Otter.  Otter was my first Xbox Live handle but I let the sub lapse and at the time you couldn't get your name back once it "expired" so I needed to come up with another one that suited my playing style,  Otter Chaos fit pretty well and was available so there you have it.

I used the OEM "system builder" version of 64 bit Vista on my build earlier this year and there were no issues at all.  If you read the package it states this version can only be installed using the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) but some searching on the interwebs showed me that that isn't the case and I just put the disc in the optical drive and it installed Vista.  I've no idea about Microsoft support issues, the computer does all the automatic or manual system updates like normal.  I'd say go for the system builder version if it saves a few dollars, I'm not sure what the retail version of the OS comes with in the box.

I have this case and it is great except that I had to unplug the leads for the power LED, that thing is a frigging laser!  I think I could get a blue suntan if I was exposed to it's light for a short period of time.  Other than that I love the case, plenty of room and lots of cooling.  Just a bit outside the price range though for this thread.

I was stationed on the U.S.S. Carl Vinson for 2.5 years.  I guess it depends on what her rate is as far as how busy they keep her.  I was an Engineering Laboratory Technician working down in the reactor rooms so we kept fairly busy but it wasn't as regimented as my time on the U.S.S. South Carolina (cruiser) where they kept you going from 0600 till 2200 and you still had to stand watches at night if it was you turn.  The aircraft carrier was more set up for 24hr flight ops so they didn't keep everyone up like the cruiser all day long.  It is not like a regular job but probably not as rigorous as you imagine either at least while at sea.  In port things tend to ease up a bit and I worked semi regular hours and had time off at night and weekends sometimes (but not always, you still have to man the ship 24/7 with a reduced crew).

Well I'm about to give up on FO3, I get constant crashes now.  I've tried disabling the quadcore threading since that was identified as causing similar lock ups to mine but it didn't help and I can't stand restarting my computer anymore just to play 30 seconds of this game,  I wish they would fix this problem, I don't think I'm the only one with this issue.  I'll spoiler where I'm locking up just in case

Spoiler for Hiden:
In vault 112 I've entered the simulation section but every time I enter a house the game freezes.  Since this is part of the main plot I don't think I can go any further.

I love my Kindle!  And I cried the day I fired it up and the upper right hand side of the screen was smeared, like some one had put vasiline jelly on it (but not having any kids this was not the case).  A call to Amazon and they overnighted me a new one ,took the old one back (it was about 5 months old) and got my books onto the new kindle.  Very good customer service IMHO.  As far as the screen issue I have no idea what happened, it was in a protective slip cover but it may have been smooshed in my bag?

Depending on the contract it would matter. In a good union contract if you work over 8 hours a day then you get into overtime which is time and a half. While for the majority you don't get into overtime unless you work over 40 hours a week. Which then after that you get into time and a half. I believe the 40 hours a week is a law, this changes state to state but I thought it was pretty universal for overtime.

First let me say that I do work for a union (IBEW 1245) so I have seen contracts for overtime and such not.  There are some workers who get double time for any time over 40 hours and there are lots of "perks" involved with overtime, drive in, missed meals etc.  I was just curious if the UAW had gotten a really sweet overtime deal and not just the vanilla 1.5 times base salary standard.  I guess my original point to cheeba's post would be that I don't think the overtime issue is something that is breaking the big 3 and not the japanese companies.

I work for a union also (IATSE 363) and our overtime is pretty sweet, any work after 12 pm is double time, if we have to work through lunch it's a meal penalty which is time and a half and any time after 8 hours is time and a half. So depending on the situation you can make a lot of money in a small amount of time. I'm sure the UAW tries to shove in as much perks as possible but it depends on the industry and the contracts. But in the end I think it is give and take and I don't think the overtime is killing the auto industry either.

What do you suppose would happen if auto workers were like game developers? You work 80-100 hour weeks during crunchtime and you don't make a penny of overtime, but the bonuses and royalties will make you rich, maybe, if everything goes right and you aren't laid off before they're handed out. And nobody ever retires from a game company. Cars would cost $50 and we'd buy a new one every 3 months because it goes faster and has flashier paint.

You pretty much describe management above.  One thing the unions don't subscribe to is working hours without getting paid for them for the promise of a bonus (that may or may not happen) further down the road, the amount of said bonus up to the whims of your bosses.
