Otherwise, maybe the towel trick will work, oh wait, this isn't the three ring error.

I didn't know Mass Effect (one of his most anticipated titles) was coming out on the PS3.

I'd be worried that my launch PS3 (or close to launch anyways) with hardware backwards compatibility would be replace with one with the software emulation instead.  Fingers crossed that it works like my launch PS2 that runs to this day.

I'm sure to try it again once I calm down (which I am at the moment  icon_biggrin) but dang I don't like to be a target dummy with little chance to fight back.  I find it telling that given the choice of staying home and playing CoD4 or heading into work a couple of hours early to get a jump on my workload, I went to work.  Thanks for the kind words and support but expect if I'm in the game I'll be scoring 0-5 pts per match while the top dogs and even the medium tier peeps will be in the 70 to 120 range.

I posted similar comments in the COD4 impressions thread.  I actually don't have much trouble with console shooters and I was ashamed of my inability to play COD4.  Last night while playing MP I could have stayed in a party with Harkonis and company, but I was so frustrated that not only did I leave MP, but I didn't even want to play SP, and because I was so unhappy I didn't even bother loading up anything else and instead went to bed.  I even woke up pissed off this morning because I had such a miserable time.

I want to like this game, but either I'm missing something, or MP isn't really what it's cracked up to be.  It's not like I can't play shooters.  And yet so far I can't play this one.

Yep your initial post mirrored my experience exactly, well done expressing it.  I suppose there may be hope for improvement but since I work most nights I will have to rely on Sunday/Monday nights go join up with the cool kids at GT/OO for some fun(?).  I hope the game clicks with you soon and someday maybe for me too.

Wow my first impressions of CoD4 multiplayer were not good.  All that comes from my suckiness at FPS games in general but in CoD4 it seemed like I'd spawn, look around then die.  Repeat this over and over and I was getting frustrated and pulling the team down (sorry Hark, papasmurf and jztemple  icon_evil ).  I think I played 4 or 5 matches in total and the number of kills I scored was 0 and my total deaths must have been near if not over 75.  This just isn't my kind of MP game I guess as there was no fun to be had for me at all.  At least in Halo I could amuse myself with by grabbing a vehicle or something but in CoD4 all I can do is peek around a corner and die or dash over to a bus and get shot by a sniper on the way etc.  I'm sure this game is top notch in the MP arena but really I don't see myself getting back into it after that disaster earlier today.

I don't mind the occasional ad if it fits in the game world.  I think a burnt out Burger King in a ruined city would be a cool ad.  That being said I hate it when they just repeat an add over and over, the example that jumped to my mind when I saw the thread title is NFS:Carbon where every bus stop bench in the city was the exact same Mazda ad and there were bus stops every 25 yards!  Far too many and each one exactly the same.

I'm having a better time of it after I moved the difficulty to silver instead of gold.  Now I can progress though the races and win some kudos.  I wasn't too impressed when I tried the "2 wheel only" section of the arcade races in that each track took place either at night, in the fog or best yet on snow.  Sheesh I'd like a chance to see the track and be able to set up my lines but every time the graphic settings made it very difficult.  I got medals in each of the events so it couldn't have been that bad but I hope not all races are run in limited visibility mode.  One the plus side the achievements have started to rack up and I guess I'll be quite happy to circle around in silver instead of gold level.

that's a bummer to hear...was hoping they would improve on that after the painfully long loads in PGR3.  do they still make you watch the long loading screen every time you restart a race?

Yes and it is very disappointing after playing Stuntman:Ignition and Dirt both of which allowed you to restart a race instantly.  The load time isn't quite as long as when you first start the race but it still seems much too long a time to wait.  This is very evident for me in the early races where one mistake will allow the other cars to get ahead of me and from then on I can't catch up using the slow cars I have.  Having to sit through yet another load screen because I forgot there was a bump in the road just before that corner is aggravating,  it would be less so if I had a car that might be able to catch up.
1175  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Help me fix my router so I can play Halo 3! (regarding NAT setting) on: October 05, 2007, 12:50:04 AM
I had to look up my 360's ip address in the settings tab and then get on my computer, bring up the router homepage and from there I configured that ip address to be a DMZ address.  I have a Belkin router so I don't know if your netgear is similar but it may help.  I couldn't join Halo3 games the other night because my router had reassigned the 360's address from (which is where I had the DMZ set to) to .  Once I went in and changed the DMZ setting to the .7 address my NAT went from moderate to open and I could join the games.  I'm not a networking expert but I believe the DMZ setting takes the computer that is assigned that address and puts it outside the firewall protection of the router.

Load times are longer than I like.  I played the first two events (three races each) in career mode and there were no cone challenges.  They are in the game but I haven't run into them yet.  I'm using the MS wheel and the bike is controllable but I may need to switch out to the normal controller and see if that is better, I'm not sure how to pop wheelies using the wheel.  Force feedback is very good as you might expect since PGR3 shipped with the wheel and PGR4 improves on it IMO.  I bought some understeering pig of a car for the second series of events and you really could feel it struggling to make the corners.  I need to figure out the interface as I'd like to go back and re-run the first series but I saw no way to do it, the interface isn't nearly as well done as the one in Dirt.  The graphics are very nice and I'm waiting to see some changing weather patterns, I hope there is more than just rain included.  Unlike kathode my achievement score after about 45 minutes of play stands at 5 points  crybaby.

Zelda shipped Monday.
PGR/Flatout shipped today.

ok, was wondering because both Zelda and NBA 2k8 were in stores today (I bought 2k8)

Yeah I was looking for PGR4 in the local Circuit City and they told me next week but being a astute consumer I figured it shipped today and would be available tomorrow.  Not sure if I'll pick it up as I have lots to play but being an owner of an exploding MS racing wheel I sometimes feel the need to fire (heh) it up and drive around a bit.  I did pick up the Zelda game.

Well, it became even more of a thankless job for me this evening.  For the 2nd week in a row, I had the same 7 year old tell another player to "shut up".  I just don't put up with that garbage.  I sent him off the field and told him I'd talk with him after practice.  However, he and Mom left and Mom wasn't too happy in the phone conversation afterwards.  "Other kids are much worse", lady, other kids may be hyperactive.  However, it's your precious little bundle of joy that's putting kids down and has had a sour attitude since Day 1.  I've enjoyed coaching, but this week has tested my patience.

Martial Arts instruction is equally as irritating at times.  Too often we as instructors are treated like glorified babysitters.  Parents bring their kids to class sick, they don't make them practice at home, and they don't become part of the process.  Frustration is probably the hardest part, but most often it is with the parent more often than the students themselves...

Master: No, no.  We have not even begun upon the path.  Ed Gooberman, you must learn patience.
Ed: Yeah, yeah, patience.  How long will that take?
Master: Time has no meaning.  To a true student, a year is as a day.

The big draw for me would be that everyone on my friends list will be playing it.  Forza2 is a great driving game that is even greater when you race against GT'ers.  Halo3 isn't a game I want to grind through in single player (never played 1 and didn't get too far in 2) but the community of friends makes it tempting to try out anyways.  I can't answer the question on why I finished Gears of War which I suppose is a similar game but Halo's story hasn't grabbed me at all.

It happened to me after a game update was installed,  this solution was posted in a earlier thread

Llevine says:  (on the cult of rapture forums)

Solution for the XBox360 "game pauses every 10-15 seconds" problem

After playing the game for a long time (on the XBox 360 only), the game begins to "hitch" or "pause" slightly every 10-15 seconds. The problem does not go away if you restore a savegame, start a new game, or reboot the XBox 360.

This seems to be a problem with the hard drive caching system on in the XBox 360 system software, and we are working with Microsoft to identify a solution for this issue. We have confirmed that the hitching goes away if you clear the hard drive cache.

To clear the hard drive cache, you must hold down both the RB and LB gamepad buttons while the game is starting. This must be done IMMEDIATELY after the console is rebooted (or the game is launched from the dashboard) and the buttons must only be released AFTER the red 2K Games logo appears.

So do that and your shuttering/freezing should be solved.

Ouch, I'm a Niner fan and that game was painful to watch.  Nice to see the defense play well against the pass but the Cards had some pretty good running plays against them.  If the Niner's fall a couple of scores behind someone I don't know how they will be able catch up if they give up that much run yardage.  The offense looked really dull, lots of dropped passes including those two potential game winners (oh so very lucky to recover that fumble in the end zone) that should have been caught.  I had bigger dreams for the team than what I saw last night but I see no way they can get past Seattle.  Prove me wrong Alex, prove me wrong.

The cheerleaders were smoking hot though, hope geller had a seat close to field level to spy them out.
