This is Outage Day 13.  As one of the original vOOlunteers who spent his time lending a hand at that site, I'm questioning my own motivations for returning to the scene.  I know that the current limitations of that forum software are going to be a major hurdle made more difficult to overcome after seeing some greener grass in other places.

Well Mariah night has come and gone, definitely an interesting one!

Prediction: Syesha, Carly and Brooke in the bottom 3.  I've incorrectly predicted Syesha going home already so I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Brooke leaves this week.

I agree on the bottom 3 but I see Syesha heading home, on a week for diva songs (I think of her as a diva singer) she didn't bring enough to the stage.  David Cook's song was very well done, I listened to it twice and may even think of downloading it, which would be  a first for me for an AI song.  The guys did far better than I imagined they could while the girls all under performed.

No 70's Honda's, lots of vintage Vespa's and Lambretta's.  Most of the crowd were on modern era Vespa's and I ride a Piaggio MP-3.

I think there were over 100 scoots on the ride but I never got a chance to count.  Lots of fun!  Here is a bit of the gang heading out at the start of the ride.

I can't stand Mariah Carey, but I'll watch to see how David Cook adapts to it.

I *really* wish they'd do away with "theme nights" or the mentor crap, and just let them sing what they want (as long as they can get a license for it). It would greatly improve the show.

Btw, I think KLC did a great job this week, and that David Cook pretty much sucked (still hope he wins though)

While I thought KLC sang quite well I hated her stagecraft.  The whole performance seemed so unnatural and forced.  Mariah eh?  Well she may be able to survive if one of the guys bombs but I think all the other female singers can out do her on these type of songs.  It will be interesting to see what song Brooke has chosen to sing.  I don't get all the support for Carley, she doesn't appeal to me at all as a singer and I had her pegged to go home last week and from her reaction she did to.

Since I am not in the biz can you be more specific about which parts are not believable? It seemed like a pretty reasonable and logical argument for the use of nuclear energy.
To avoid turning into a douchebag, I'll give someone else the opportunity to step in and answer this (possibly only after reading the article).  The difference between that someone else and me would be their desire to get into an argument.

If nobody steps up, I'll see what I can come up with.

~Neal

While not looking to get into an argument I also am in the nuclear business (I've worked at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant for  24 years).  His article seems a bit too light handed on a few issues such as
Quote
The replaced rods will be removed and transferred to a storage pool inside the containment structure, where they can remain indefinitely (three feet of water blocks the radiation)

err I wouldn't go near an expended fuel rod that was shielded by only 3 feet of water!  Ours are under 27 feet and there are numerous design elements that go into that figure.  He is also pretty offhand on the issue of recycling the fuel, while it is true that much of an expended fuel rod is reusable, getting it out isn't an easy task.  He ignores low level radioactive waste (a big cost for us to dispose of) and is wrong when stating there isn't any discharge to the environment.

Quote
There is no release into the environment. The fuel rods come out looking exactly as they did going in, except that they are now more highly radioactive. There is no air pollution, no water pollution, and no ground pollution.

Actually there is some release of radioactive gas and liquid to the environment during normal operation and while his comment about the fuel rods is correct (except they aren't as shiny anymore) his statement that they are "now more highly radioactive" is an understatement, they are now lethal if you get anywhere near one, say 3 feet from one even if it is underwater.  There are many many safeguards to prevent that from occuring but you can't just disregard it with an off hand comment.

I guess the overall tone of his lecture was too light on the difficulties and downsides of nuclear power in order to make his point.  I support the business but people really should be told the reality of it.

How do you know what was said?  Do you speak Persian?

I guess I do speak Persian since I understood what was said, it turns out Persian is just like English!  I suppose watching the video might give more insight into what happened but I can see that it would in no way change your opinion of what happened or who was telling the truth.

Or they loaded them with explosives a la the Cole.

True if they were intending to attack vessels but the Iranian government says they were just identifying ships, again how would they turn back a ship if they had no guns but were loaded with explosives?  Whatever they were doing they were ill equipped to do whatever the Iranians said they were supposed to be doing.

Video released of the incident check the new sites. It's hardly thrilling, but I do believe you can see GWB waterskiing off the back of one of the boats.

I'm betting every Navy ship is at general quarters when passing though the Straights of Hormuz and what you don't see on the video is the guns tracking those boats and the repair parties/boarding parties and other stations all manned up.  I'd say those Iranians were less than a minute before "hardly thrilling" became "Gulf of Tonkin thrilling".  In fact I was amazed to see those boats near the wake of the ships, hardly necessary to get that close to "identify" a U.S. warship but plenty close enough to get blown out of the water.

I didn't see any weapons on the Iranian boats, I wonder what they would have done if they needed to turn back the unidentified ships that they went to check out?  I'd say they were bringing a scimitar (curved for better slashing!) to a gun fight.

Jumped into a multiplayer game with Harkonis and Loomie and had some fun but there were issues.  None of us could see damage on the other cars, they all looked perfect while we could see our own cars all smashed up.  The re-spawn after you are taken down is too quick and far too close to the other car that just took you out.  It was pretty easy to take out Harkonis after I re-spawned since I had a fresh car right next to where his damaged one was.  Also it was distracting not to see even a hint of a driver in the cars, I'd rather see mirrored windows or something rather than the empty drivers seat that the demo had.  I hope some of these things are only because we are playing a demo that may not have all the features in it but for now I'm on the fence and will await reviews before I decide on if I'll buy it.

I posted similar comments in the COD4 impressions thread.  I actually don't have much trouble with console shooters and I was ashamed of my inability to play COD4.  Last night while playing MP I could have stayed in a party with Harkonis and company, but I was so frustrated that not only did I leave MP, but I didn't even want to play SP, and because I was so unhappy I didn't even bother loading up anything else and instead went to bed.  I even woke up pissed off this morning because I had such a miserable time.

I want to like this game, but either I'm missing something, or MP isn't really what it's cracked up to be.  It's not like I can't play shooters.  And yet so far I can't play this one.

Yep your initial post mirrored my experience exactly, well done expressing it.  I suppose there may be hope for improvement but since I work most nights I will have to rely on Sunday/Monday nights go join up with the cool kids at GT/OO for some fun(?).  I hope the game clicks with you soon and someday maybe for me too.

Wow my first impressions of CoD4 multiplayer were not good.  All that comes from my suckiness at FPS games in general but in CoD4 it seemed like I'd spawn, look around then die.  Repeat this over and over and I was getting frustrated and pulling the team down (sorry Hark, papasmurf and jztemple  icon_evil ).  I think I played 4 or 5 matches in total and the number of kills I scored was 0 and my total deaths must have been near if not over 75.  This just isn't my kind of MP game I guess as there was no fun to be had for me at all.  At least in Halo I could amuse myself with by grabbing a vehicle or something but in CoD4 all I can do is peek around a corner and die or dash over to a bus and get shot by a sniper on the way etc.  I'm sure this game is top notch in the MP arena but really I don't see myself getting back into it after that disaster earlier today.
