I hope the actual game isn't so heavy on combat encounters, I'm not good at the dogfighting and the free ship you start with is very under armed.  I've yet to have an encounter that didn't end in fighting and usually my death.  Had a neat area where I found gold floating in space so I deployed my cargo scoop to pick some up but of course two heavily armed fighters dropped in and killed me before I could get close to the gold.  I suppose I should have done silent running but did not have time to try it as they showed up and started firing right away.  I guess I need to read up on the game and find out how to make money in ways other than dogfighting.

Patrick does the Giant Bomb horror stuff.  I asked him in a tweet what he thought it would be like playing that with the Morpheus and he replied with "I don't want to think about it! smile".  There is no way I'm playing this demo!

Just to be clear I'll be getting a Rift on release.  One thing though is software compatibility, not sure how many games that support the TrackIR will add Rift support if their game is already in release.

Tilt, how is reading text in Elite using the DK2?  I had heard it is a bit more challenging then reading it on a monitor.

when you get your rift, you won't need that TrackIR.... hint hint

Yeah, skipping the DK2 because it's "temporary" while getting a TrackIR instead is kind of counter-intuitive. The TrackIR will be just as obsolete for these games as the DK2 once the CV1 is out. Actually, the DK2 won't be obsolete if I'm not mistaken. It'll just give a lesser experience than the full consumer version, but should still work. The same can't be said for the DK1.

While true, I've had the TrackIR since before the Occulus was announced so I didn't get it while skipping the DK2.  I'm willing to wait for the consumer release of the Occulus to see what further improvements they make, I've already read that the DK2 seems to cause less motion sickness than the DK1 so if there is even more room for improvement I can wait awhile before packing the TrackIR up and sending it to Indy.

Few hours in and it is pretty fun, managed to travel to a far off station that I found by sheer luck and sold half of my cargo for a whopping 326 CR profit, of course fuel and repairs almost wiped all that out.  Game looks great and seem to have so much depth to explore and I'm happy to have bought it.
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: August 14, 2014, 04:56:48 AM
TrackIr you say?  hmmmm

I'm waiting for the consumer release of the Occulus, I know the guys at Tested did a look at the game using DevKit2 and they didn't think it was worth buying the Devkit unless you were a developer or had $350 to spend on this version knowing the final would most likely be a better bet.  I can wait and see how the TrackIR works in the game as yes I'm now downloading the $75 Beta (I have no issue with the price btw) due to all the recent good videos and press about the game.

I'm too old for this shit!  I want Call of Duty Simple Warfare without all the techno gizmos everywhere.  I would love to see what a WW2, Korea or Vietnam era setting would look like on the new consoles.  Did like the incoming tide bit though.

I liked it a lot but can't say I loved it.  I think I prefer The Avengers and Ironman1 over GotG but I will look forward to GotG2 as it was enjoyable.  I guess I was hoping for a little more uniqueness compared to other Marvel films, it had some but I thought it would really break the mold of this type of flick.

I can see why you like the first house, the second one looks like any of a thousand other houses you can buy.  Having said that I think the second is a better choice in the long run unless that train track gets abandoned in the near future.  Also what about heating and cooling costs?  That large brick structure might cost a fair penny to keep comfortable.  If you have kids then the quality of the respective school districts could be a factor.

We'll see. Really hoping this game is great.  If it is, I'll probably bump up to the one with the expansion pass...

In the alpha it was quite easy to get into a random group, I just selected the mission area and the game found two other players to join in.  No issues at all.

Wow, another humiliating loss for Brazil! I can't remember any other world cup where a team so strongly favored lost so badly. I'm thinking this can't be good for Brazil's Olympic committee who now have to get the Public to buy into the 2016 Olympics.

That's a great point, I hadn't thought of the Olympics coming to Brazil in two years and they already had protests about the World Cup expense.  This could get pretty ugly over there.  Oh. And that ref for the Brazil/Netherlands game was poor imo, lots of missed calls and lots of phantom calls as well, wouldn't have changed the outcome though.

I'd love to root for the U.S. side but they turtle up every time they are tied.  They looked very chippy when down 1 but after the equalizer goal they turn off and wait for the clock to run out, maybe good strategy but boring to watch.  Bradley in the center looked poor on more than one occasion but the one that counted he looked to give that ball to Portugal on a platter.

Played a Hunter up to the max lvl 8, plenty of fun to be had.  I enjoyed the multiplayer map which was 6v6 capture 3 flag points.  Game looks very good to my eyes and the shooting is fun.  I picked up some unidentified loot along the way so there are drops out and about.  Also tried a co-op legendary mission but the other two bailed out when we got to the finish, to be fair I'm not sure we ever would have gotten it done.

There's no doubt that both platforms have good content coming up. Everyone's a winner this year.

I agree if I'm grading both of these shows I would give them both a B. Microsoft did what they needed to do, which was show games. Sony came out and showed more exclusives that I'm interested in, but they stumbled with the whole movie and TV parts. Pretty even IMO. Also, I was hoping for a killer Vita game and they didn't show one at all.

Here's hoping that Nintendo knocks it out of the park today. I'm really hoping for a $100 drop in price for WiiU starting this month. That would get me to finally pick one up.

My biggest gripe at Sony was the lack of actual gameplay aside from Little Big Planet 3 well that and too much hardware/PSN talk.  The Order looked good but the part they showcased had too little player interaction.  Good thought on the Vita, where were the games for it?  Maybe it just isn't setup well for press conferences and they will show stuff on the E3 floor?  I hope so.

Got up and read about last night's Sony E3 proceedings.

Let's see: 'The Last Of Us' will be on PS4 on late July. 'Little Big Planet 3' announced. White PS4 in time for 'Destiny'. 'Dead Island 2'. 'No Man's Sky'. 'The Order'.  A remastered 'Grim Fandango'. And a little thing called 'Uncharted 4'.

(PR runs over to the Xbox One.. drop kicks it out of a high-rise window.)

(PR opens the apartment door. Invites the PS4 over. Immediately turns on porn music, lowers the lights and takes his clothes off.)

And scene.  icon_lol

[Directors cut]
(Zinfan runs out of the darkness to snatch the XB1 out of the air)

"Don't worry XB1 lets leave PR in our Phantom Dust as we jump into this Forza Horizon 2 car and head off into the Sunset OverDrive where we will Crackdown on some Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix EX Alpha with killer Dance Central moves leading us to Shape Up and revel in Scalebound"

Is Destiny this year?  Thought it was and if so that would be a big game for 2014.

No sign of Drive Club is a bit worrying.

They got that out of the way before E3, so there's nothing to worry about.

Wonder what the release dates are for Forza Horizon and Drive Club, Forza now having day/night and weather.

Forza Horizon 2 is September 30, Driveclub is October 7th.

Let the car battle begin!
