1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Remove "crud" from a photo? on: April 17, 2005, 03:29:38 AM
Quote from: "O.DOGG"
It can easily be removed with the Clone Stamp in Photoshop, or the Healing Brush in Photoshop 7+ but it would take some doing. I'd bet that PSP has something similar. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Photoshop Elements 3 now has the Healing Brush too. Awesome tool that would easily do this job.
2  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Anyone remember M.A.S.K.? on: April 08, 2005, 06:49:22 AM
Yep. I had the Piranha which was a sidecar motorcycle that turns into a sub and the Hurricane (Blue Chevy) that Grievous mentions.

Damnit, I just read about the perfect monitor.  The Iiyama porlite E435S-B.  It runs at 10ms and is apparently sharp as a sharp thing in the text and graphics department.  Unfortunately, there is some sort of chip legality problem that is keeping it from hitting the US (the Iiyama guy told me 3 months, which means more like Fall).  Now this is the monitor I really, really want.  Does anyone know a reputable UK company that will ship a monitor overseas?

Actually, apparently NEC makes a 19" LCD with 8ms. The NEC MultiSync 1970GX.
6  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Kotor 2 Rebooting problem on: March 04, 2005, 12:20:17 AM
Ever since I've since I've installed KOTOR 2, I've started having a random rebooting problem. Didn't have a problem before. Anyone experience this? Computer also reboots when I'm not even playing it.
7  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / LCD Monitors on: March 02, 2005, 04:59:37 AM
Hehe, my dad just replaced his old Sony Trinitron 15" with a 14" LCD, although it's got 38ms response time and not great for gaming, it's suitable for a work computer, and the price was a steal for $199CND. LCDs sure seem to have more of a viewable area than CRTs with the same size though. His new monitor looks more like a 15" than a 14", and I'd hesitate to say maybe even 17".

9  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Amazing tsunami photos surface on: February 26, 2005, 02:23:46 AM
Yeah, Tsunami waves don't necessarily have to be tall to be destructive, rather they get their force from underneath and as it advances, it sort of assimilates all the water around it, which is why one of the first signs of a tsunami is a receding shoreline.
10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Recomendations for good Star Trek novels on: February 23, 2005, 10:08:32 PM
Q-Squared by Peter David (Basically created the notion that Trelane was a member of the Q continuum and Q is sort of like his babysitter in this story where everything goes wrong which gives way for hilarious scenes. ) Although I have to warn you about this one, it isn't a light read as one might expect out of a Trek novel because there are so many things going on at the same time that it can get confusing.

Prime Directive by the Reeves-Stevenses (Which has Kirk and the crew face court-marshal after a disastrous first contact situation.)

Federation by the Reeves-Stevenses (Has both the Kirk crew and Picard crew work independently towards the same problem that threatens the Federation)

Now these first two might be harder to find as I think they're out of print, so scout out your used book store for those, now the next ones are still in print as far as I know.

A Stitch In Time by Andrew Robinson (Basically Garak tells his story of just exactly who he is and how he ended up on DS9)

The Lives of Dax By Multiple Authors (Basically short stories surrounding each of the hosts of the Dax symbiont)

Immortal Coil by Jeffery Lang (Basically a Data book that brings together almost every computer and android reference from TOS and TNG into a very cool story, although some people have said to not have liked it since there were so many references that they felt it distracted them from the story, that and the fact that many of the references may not mean anything to some people unless they really know Star Trek history)

Doesn't anyone realize at WB that the reason for declining ratings might be because their cartoons are crap as of late? Seriously, cartoons just aren't the same as they have been . Lately it all has to be about violence , and while the classics have had cartoon violence in the past, these seem to try to bring it to a more realistic level. And what's with the art? That's seriously ugly.

How far is Microsoft allowed to incorporate extensions or properties of Firefox?  I guess in other words, is Microsoft allow to steal tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, adblock, and such things or does Firefox protect some of these as its own?

Firefox wouldn't be able to claim tabs as their own. It originated with Opera.

Right.  It just dosen't match one of my main criteria...that it be freeware (or at least shareware with a decent trial.)

You mean 30 days isn't enough for you? I would think that would be enough to make what you want with it.
22  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Firefox Extension Recommendations on: February 13, 2005, 05:26:00 AM
Does anyone know if there's an extension that allows you to customize things even more? I find that a lot of extensions tend to create new toolbars which wastes lots of space, so I'd like to move things around to save some space. For example, there's Spoofstick which essentially shows you what the true location of a site is so that you don't get fooled with sites spoofing sites like Paypal and Ebay for example, and it created its own toolbar, the problem being that there's lots of wasted space and could do without its own toolbar. I know it can be done because I've seen some screenshots with it moved to where the menu bar is.

I think what you want is NTI CD-Maker. It's what I have and use for my new DVD burner and it rocks. Super easy to use. Although the version I have is not the most recent one, it does seem like the most recent ones does have features that you'd be interested in, such as drag and drop video and even menu creation system.

I guess they wanted to beat the awards and have it come out before them. Such a shame. They should have waited much longer to release it. I bet many people will skip over it because of this frown

I'm really surprised that Ray is on DVD already. It was only released to theatres in October as a limited release, then in November as a wide release, which makes it less than 4-6 months. I would encourage everybody to see this movie.

Worked for me in Firefox. I have to say, I agree with her. I was surprised to see so much spent on the inaugurations. Didn't remember seeing this kind spending being done the last few , and this is money all used up for what? One night instead of being used for soldiers who could of needed it more?

33  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Chris Thile - Deceiver on: January 16, 2005, 05:18:56 AM
Well, I just got this album yesterday and it's amazing.

I'm just blown away by this album. It's so different and refreshing, yet while still remaining familiar. It kind of feels like an experimental album in some places, or a canvas of art, but the arrangements all come together in the end. It's genius. So many different textures that you wouldn't expect from a bluegrass musician and the sound is really good too. I would definitely recommend it if you want something different in your collection.

I bought that Philips a couple weeks ago to go with my new HDTV.  The picture quality is good, but not great.  It's big draw is that you can play burned discs and it supports DivX.

I got the player on Monday. But how can you tell about picture quality? Seems fine to me. But then again, I just have a normal 21" TV.
35  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / DVD Players on: January 09, 2005, 01:01:43 AM
Divx isn't really an issue for me. I doubt i'd be using that much at all. Basically, for my dad's business, we need to put video onto DVD and then send them to customers, so we also plan on getting a MiniDV camera and a DVD burner. Apparently this DVD player has an easy region code hack that allows you to set it as region free.
36  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / DVD Players on: January 08, 2005, 09:03:23 PM
I'm finally getting around to getting a DVD player and it will be the first and only one we have in the house here, so I'll need some opinions on what they think is best. We're looking at under $100 CND. Found a Philips 642 for $99. What does everyone think about this one?

I wonder if it was a green laser? Those are powerful. My dad has one and we have to be careful during astronomy events because they're so bright to the point that some astronomers even complain about them.

[Edit: Should actually read the article first. It was a green one.]
38  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Dukes of Hazzard Pic on: December 23, 2004, 11:24:51 PM
Weird. That doesn't look like Dukes of Hazzard to me. And Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg? Sorry, but I'd rather they didn't have the character back in there as he wasn't in the TV movies. I'd rather if he played Roscoe, which would be ironic since he's played succesfull movies where he's tried to evade cops, and Roscoe took over the role of Boss Hogg in those movies anyway.
