Gotta admit that throughout the day I've become one angry SOB because of this. Because of my personal ties with this, its like this bastard spit personally in my face.....and that's to put it mild. That's all for now

I've posted over at OO about this and I'll post here too.
It looks like I unfortunately may know a victim.
We just recently moved to Hawaii from Denver 2 months ago. I'm a RN who worked at The University of Colorado and Aurora Medical Center. I'm positive I would have been called in to help triage victims had I still been living there. I drove by that theatre daily on my way into work.
Today has been very difficult as I sit in the middle of the ocean wishing I were back in Denver to be with friends and coworkers and helping to care for the victims. Never have I felt totally helpless. I just wish I could use my trained skills to help care for my former community and home.
I'm not a religious person myself, so I'll only ask to remember in whatever way you choose not only the victims, but survivors and those caring for them.

I'm definitely on the IN side of this. I was about to order the Kindle Fire this week for my birthday, but saw this last night and read some very positive reviews. I also see rumors of a Kindle Fire 2 to be released as early as late July, early August.
I'm going to sit tight right now, but I'm a huge Android and google fan. This baby looks great and I'm seriously contemplating a preorder.

I've had sleeping issues for years requiring sleep studies and recently a nagging back.
Our new condo has a memory foam mattress and it has done wonders not only for my back but my sleep.
Wish I had thought about it years ago.

Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Best way for newbie guitar player to progress?

My 9 year old son has been learning guitar now for about 5 months. I initially found some youtube videos where he learned basic cords. We then bought Rocksmith and he plays that regularly and he is damn good at it.
The problem is we have come to a point where we don't know how to progress as he is bored with Rocksmith and just strumming basic cords over and over.
So for those out there, what are some suggestions on how to progress? I was thinking of looking into buying a cord book with some songs he would like to learn. But is that too much? Not sure where to go from here.

We are currently paying $170 with the everything family plan from sprint and while we love the freedom, the price every month is starting to get hard to swallow. I'll have to look closer at my minutes and data usage, but somehow we need to lower our monthly bill. On our plan is myself and wife with smartphones and a cheap phone for our son for emergencies he never uses.
From everyone I have mentioned this with, we have a pretty good deal, but after a year with this price, its getting hard to pay every month. I love my Evo and use it like mad, but we are beginning to question why we are spending almost $200 monthly on phones.
No idea what to do.

More flying. The deal is that I'm taking a 3 month work assignment in Hawaii that might turn into a year on different islands in Hawaii so potentially numerous flights.

I've been teaching myself electric guitar for a few months and I'm needing to take it on a flight in a couple weeks.
For those experienced, do you use a case and check it or what's the best way to travel with it. I'm concerned I check it and when I pick it up at baggage claim its damaged.
I don't have a case yet either so I'll take advice on that too. Its a BC Rich warlock, rather inexpensive, paid $200 for it a few months ago.

Good news Ron. Ya I see alot of those EKGs and most times than not they are nothing to worry about. You've might have had this for years and had you not been sick you would have never known.
Hence my previous story about my EKG class where the instructor took no liability for what people saw on their own when hooked up to an EKG.
Stress test should work out OK buddy. Hope you are feeling better. Sent from me phone

Oops, overlooked that. Sounds like just an issue of the flu big or the coughing spell.
All should work out OK I'm sure.
I remember when I went through my ekg training the instructor agreed to hook us up and read our own ekg's. Funny thing is he wouldn't take responsibility for what we found....
ie: alot of people find irregular stuff all the time and alot of times its no biggie.
Keep us updated Ron, sure its fine.

Just curious Ron, I'm a Cardiology RN....but obviously no doctor and wouldn't advise as such.
However, I'm curious specifically what waves were inverted. Some of that can be electrolyte imbalances (hence) the flu bug. My experience, I wouldn't worry until you are given a reason to worry (I know thats easy for me to say). Had it been something acute related to your heart, more workup would have been warranted. There are other reasons, but most for a young spring chicken like you should work out fine.
I guess I just want to encourage you to not get too upset unless the doc asks about your living will......j/k
Good luck and I'm sure it'll be OK. Things like that really does put things in perspective. I see it everyday.

I have beaten all the regular maps in kingdom rush, but I have been trying for weeks and weeks to beat the last 3 extra red flag maps and I just can't. I've tried with every combo I can think of, including using a hero and I can't do it.

Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Putting out feelers for a huge PS3 bundle
|
on: April 04, 2012, 03:04:35 AM

I have a big PS3 bundle I'm thinking of packaging and selling. But I have an issue with the system itself.
I bought a new 160gb system last fall. My son has used it probably about 20 hours. Tonight I purchase Rocksmith and it's looking like the disc is dead. It spins but won't play any game discs or movies. I'm really not happy since this is a relatively new system and the drive is dead it appears. We haven't used it in probably 2 months and bam, drive dead.
So I'm thinking of seeing if someone is interested in the system with a lot of games. Rockband 2 and 3 with guitar, Call of Duty Black OPS, Battlefield 3, and numerous other games including about $20 of playstation store credit.
I don't know if someone here is interested, but maybe we can work something out. When I get a chance this weekend I'll list all the games exactely. I do know someone locally that fixes these for the price of the drive. Or I can send it in for replacement if someone is interested or if anyone wants to take it as is, we can talk.
Putting out feelers at the moment.

Rise you devil
Anyhow, my wife and I really want to learn the guitar. We've talked about it for awhile and finally decided to buy an instrument and get started. We've only been at it for a few days using an app on the IPad called beginner guitar (guitar jamz on the net). It got a lot of high ratings and after 2 lessons we can both play the first little riff which turns out to be smoke on the water. I think there are about 8 beginner lessons and it teaches important cords. However, I suspect after a couple weeks we'll need more to move on with.
I also got excited and bought Rocksmith yesterday. So far that is kicking my butt. Lucky to get 60% on Satisfaction and that was just lucking out on hitting the right cords.
So what I really want to know is what is recommended for absolute beginners? An app for the IPad would be ideal and I don't mind paying for it. We both are determined and I think learning together should help. But I want a good, reliable, proven program.

I'm loving my wife's iPad2. If it wasnt for the fact that I have a droid phone and have a lot of apps I wanna put on a tablet, I could be in the market for a ipad3. However, trying to hold out for the new Transformer Prime but I'll more than likely cave shortly and buy the current version.

So it turned out ok i guess that Motorhead didn't perform. They got a nice big boo from the crowd when one of the bands apologized for it. I thought Lemmy should have atleast shown his ugly mug and played bass for a song or two. But no dice, oh well. Here is the summary of the show.... #1. Lacuna Coil was god awful. One of the worse performances i've seen in nearly 25 years of going to shows. Thank goodness they only played 6 songs (6 too many that is). #2. Volbeat stole the show. I was hoping they'd play 3 or 4 more songs since Motorhead canceled. Awesome performers and had great energy. Listen to more of their older albums for a decent taste of them. The newer stuff isn't as good. Regardless, fantastic show they put on. Crowd absolutely loved them. My wife proclaims them as her new favorite band. Not sure who the last one was #3. Megadeth was spot on. I got some good HD footage i'll put on youtube when i get the chance. Dave can and regularly is an ass, but damnit he can play a f'n guitar....simply amazing. They played a Motorhead song and actually played some really older material for a change which was great. Side note, halfway through one of their newer songs, Dave stops and tells security in front of the stage to stop manhandling the fans who were crowd surfing. He kindly warned them a couple times before. He called out one of the guards who really was rough with this one tiny girl who repeatedly made it to the front of the stage. So he stops the song and is dog cussing the guard who is ignoring him. Dave said, "If i leave this stage asshole you are in alot of damn trouble". So the guy still doesn't respond and the lights come on in the venue and Mustaine walks off stage. 5 minutes later he comes back with his head of security and they kick the venue security out, literally out the building. Dave puts his staff in front of the stage and tells the crowd to enjoy themselves and have fun and don't be idiots. The crowd goes wild and the rest of the show went off great.

So my wife and I are getting ready for the Megadeth/Motorhead show tonight and guess what....
Lemmy has a sore throat and Motorhead isn't performing. Thanks Lemmy! Only reason my wife agreed to go AND i bought VIP tickets for us so she wouldn't get smashed in the pits.

OK picked this up and I need some general strategy help, bad. I've played all random games and I'm getting hammered. I'm reading about crystal rushing and tried that without any success. Most people I've played thus far have simply ignored the crystals and go for my men. Either way I'm pretty much lost. Can someone list some good basic strategy I need to practice?
