2603  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Wanderers invite you on: December 01, 2004, 07:59:12 PM
Wanderers hasha  been down for maintenance.  We do have a backup site that i can't remember off hand at the moment.  It's been down for a few days so i suspect it'll be back any day.
And as far as i know, you'll definitely need a credit card to play the free trial.  You do have to enter it at registering.

2606  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Looking for comparison - EQ2 and WOW on: November 30, 2004, 08:37:00 PM
This is the bottom line, there are those who like EQ2 and those who like WoW.  It does not mean one product is better than the other simply because you prefer the gameplay of one over the other.  I'm not referring to this post by any means, but all these threads and comments that declare WoW is better than EQ2 or EQ2 rules WoW is ridiculous and i personally would not follow the advice of someone posting such a message.  Having said that...........
I did not play either of the betas for either game to purposely not spoil any parts of the game for me, that's just my feelings.  After all the hype of WoW and so many people declaring it the second coming of gaming, i chose to go with WoW instead of EQ2.  I liked the potential for the casual gamer and ease at leveling rather quickly.  I also liked the idea that our guild at The Wanderers were going to hit it hard at release and i wanted in on it from the start.  However, after playing for just 3 days and up to lvl 11, i was bored out of my mine from constant soloing and quit.  I hated having to solo in a mmorpg and couldn't imagine doing it for the majority of my levels.  Ya i know grouping does get a bit more important at higher levels in order to complete quests, but the little grouping i had done at that moment was lifeless and not as rewarding compared to soloing for most people.  I also did not like the graphics.  The cartoon aproach is just not my style and i just couldn't get into the feel of the world because of it.  I also thought combat was boring for some reason.  You WoW fanbois don't flame me, i just did not personally like it.  For these reasons and a few others, i had to quit because it was boring me to death to solo and chat with my friends instead of grouping.  The fact is most or the majority of people solo and thats not what i was looking for.
Now, i decided to give EQ2 a shot because i heard it was more suited to the grouping player more so than solo'er.  When i immediately entered EQ2, i knew this was the game for me.  I love the graphics, the enormous amounts of character choices, the more mature player, and grouping being encouraged.  I personally think the combat in EQ2 is exciting and more strategic than WoW.  Surprisingly enough i have done more questing solo in EQ2 than i wanted to be, but thus far i haven't been annoyed or bored with it.  I also have been able to find pickup groups each night i've played rather easily.  The leveling is definitely slower than WoW, but until now it's not a burden.  I'm currently level 12 almost 13 and truely addicted to the gameplay, graphics, combat, community, etc.
This DOES not mean EQ2 rules and WoW suxxors.  These are just my personal likes and dislikes about each game and the impressions i had with each on a limited basis.  I have no idea whether EQ2 will hold my attention in the long haul once the grind sets in.  However i do know i traded away my WoW account and will never play it again.  For the many people who say EQ2 is boring and suxxors there are that many people who flame WoW.  I'm not flaming or pumpng either, just giving you my $.02
I  guess the bottom line would be if you have the $$ and extra time, try WoW yourself and make that judgment.  I personally dont think you can decide whats good for you unless you try it first hand.  It surely did not work for me.

Just wanted to edit and add that i can't figure out for the life of me why so many people are having problems with EQ performance.  I have a relatively modest system and at generally high settings i get no lag or stuttering what so ever.  If i hadn't read on different forums all the problems, i wouln't know any existed.

2608  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Tabasco hot sauce on: November 29, 2004, 08:43:46 PM
ya i'm one of those folks who can eat anything regardless of how hot it is.  i usually use Blairs Death sauce when i want to set my dumper on fire and Tabasco Habanero or Chipotle for flavoring.  Tabasco is the best all around hot sauce for seasoning, bar none

2610  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Anyone have any toddler videos for trade or sell? on: November 29, 2004, 10:37:11 AM
Kind of an odd request but my almost 2 year old is absolutely head over hills in love with Thomas the Tank Engine and the Wiggles.  We get the Wiggles of course because of Disney so it's not as important as Thomas who we rarely see.
I'd love to get some Thomas videos if possible.  Anyone got any your kids have outgrown?

2614  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Anyone have any interest in WoW and start guide? on: November 27, 2004, 10:27:35 AM
Having been underwhelmed with WoW personally, i picked up EQ 2 and thus far i'm loving how things are going.
So in saying that, would anyone be interested in buying WoW standard edition with the 432 page brady strat guide from me?  With Blizzard extending the 30-day trial a couple days, you could nearly have the entire trial since i just activated it this past Tuesday.
If so, let me know and i'll make a decision by Sunday whether i'm still feeling like i am about it and i can ship it out Monday.  Again, it would be basically the entire trial and the new brady strat guide.

[email protected]

Edit ........... this would be for sale only, no trades.

2624  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / 20% off WoW strat guide at on: November 20, 2004, 03:35:15 PM
I realize all mmorpg guides are outdated a bit at release, but if you are looking for nice colored maps and some crafting info., has 20% on all startegy guides.  Not sure if this is just for today or not, so don't wait.  The collectors edition would be just $23.99.
The cool thing about the collectors edition guide is that when brady updates the guide periodically, you can get the updates from their site.  I understand all of the info. can be found from somewhere off the net, but if you are like me, i'd like to have it all neatly assembled in one book and not have to spend the time wasting ink on copying it myself.
Enter code HB20.

2633  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 performance thread on: November 16, 2004, 08:59:04 AM
Ok i'll be the first to start a thread about a concern i'm sure alot will have.  I've played the first 10 minutes so far and i'm getting what i would consider mediocre performance.
My system:
Althon 2400
1g ram
I'm running at 1024 and at what i would condsider moderate settings and i'm getting stuttering and breaks in rendering.  Anyone else?

2638  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 early release legal question on: November 12, 2004, 03:14:35 PM
Ya i'm really not sure how to technically answer your original question.  If you go to the steam forums there are a million threads about this type of topic so i'm sure there might be atleast 1 reasonable answer.
As far as needing an internet connection to play the single player, my argument is that if you have a computer with a $200-$400 video card in it you more than likely will have internet access.  However, i can see alot of uninformed folks buying it and after installing getting upset because they can't register it because they didn't read the box that says internet connection required.  I got a feeling alot of returns are in the works for this game with some unhappy folks.
To tell you the truth, i'm getting disgusted as the days go by about this release.  I've ordered from steam, but the way it's been handled all around is leaving a nasty taste in my mouth.
Sorry i couldnt answer the original question, i'm sure someone here will soon.
2639  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Children Of The Nile - first impressions on: November 10, 2004, 10:43:59 PM
hey jztemple, would someone with no prior city building type games find it rather painless to jump into and learn?
i've never played any of the city building type games because it always seemed too tedious to me.  however, i've kept an eye on this for a while now and really have some interest in it.  yet, i don't want to try it out and realize i'm in over my head.
would a newcomer to this game type feel comfortable and does the tutorials do a good job of teaching a newbie?
