A few new additions this week.

The Vision Bleak - The Unknown.  One part Edge of Sanity, one part Type O Negative, and one part Sisters of Mercy.  While it probably falls closer to the "goth" than "metal" label, The Unknown is a fantastic album.  The lyrics are a bit (ok...a lot) silly, I love, love, love the vocals...both clean and harsh. A strong album of the year contender here.

Ghost Bath - Moonlover.  If you're a fan of Deafheaven's brand of death metal meets shoegaze, you'll love Ghost Bath.  Fantastic melodies with eerie howling lyrics.  I enjoyed this one far more than I was expecting to.

Gojira - Magma.  I was excited for this one after reading a number of stellar reviews, but much like their previous album, this one has fallen a bit flat for me.  There's a few great standout tracks (I really like Silvera...even though it sounds a bit like it belongs on a SOAD album), but the overall album just feels sorta meh.  Maybe my expectations got too high, but Magma certainly hasn't blown me away.  Need to give it a few more listens.

Very disappointed in the new Gojira album as well.

They are coming here in October I believe and I'm debating on whether to go or not. I hear they are great live.

I'm enjoying the new Whitechapel album. Nothing special really...just good deathcore music.

Opeth has a new album coming out this fall I'm looking forward to. I really liked Heritage from a few years ago. But I'm hoping this new album isn't more progressive.
3  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: on: June 07, 2016, 04:38:06 AM
I'll take some time and make a list as well.

I can probably get a solid top 10 as well. But 11-20 would vary.

#1 off the top of my head would be

Dio - Dream Evil.  Really coming of age time for me and I can always look back at this album as probably some of my best times growing up. Still listen to this regularly today. Never gets old. When Ronnie James died a few years ago, it was honestly like a best friend from my childhood died.

4  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / Xbox 360 bundle/PS4 games for sell on: June 05, 2016, 07:32:57 PM
Cleaning house and I have a used Xbox 360 that's been sitting around I'm interested in selling.

Slim 250gb bought in 2012 (I believe).  This was used primarily by me and my son. I have 3 controllers and only 1 one those works. The one that does work, the left stick gets stuck.

Other than that, it works perfectly fine. All cables included.

Games included are Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and 3, Black Ops 2, Diablo 3 Evil Edition, Fallout 3, Call of Duty Ghosts.

PS4 games I have are Fallout 4 and Dragon Age Inquisition.

The only thing I'm interested in is an iPhone 6. I can use these items as partial trade. If not, I'd sell as a package. Make a reasonable offer and we can discuss.

I wish Nintendo would stop trying to come up with some new gimmick for every console, and just produce one kick-ass dedicated gaming system. It doesn't have to be high end hardware either - they've proven they can make great looking games without massive amounts of horsepower. Just make a lean, mean, Mario/Zelda machine with normal controllers and media. I'd be all over it.

ditto

First impressions after a couple spins this morning.  The album is decent enough, but they certainly don't do anything to shake their "AC/DC of death metal" label.  It all feels very by-the-book and formulaic.  Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be missing the "edge" that they rediscovered on Deceiver of the Gods.  There's certainly nothing as brutal as Blood Eagle or Where Is Your God, and nothing as unique as Hel.  Raise Your Horns is definitely the standout track, and one that will be fun to see live (even if they're not hitting SLC on this tour   mad).  I do love the fact that Hegg is one of the few harsh vocalists that I have no problem understanding.  Being able to actually make sense of the lyrics helps to put the interesting story together.

It's not bad, mind you, just feels a little...meh.  Maybe it'll improve after a few more listens.

Yeah, I normally don't listen to their music too much. I just love seeing them live. I like to compare them to AC/DC and Cannibal Corpse, most of their music just sounds the same. Not a bad thing per say, it just does.

However, I'm going to give it a go this weekend.

New Amon Amarth album, Jomsviking is out tomorrow.  Hearing really good reviews so far.  Can't wait to check it out in the morning.

Been waiting awhile for this one.

Their first concept album... can't wait.

Going to try and catch them on tour this year as well.

I've seen multiple bands over the years who are awesome live...but I can't stomach to listen to otherwise.

On the 70000 cruise I was on a couple years back, that was my experience. Some obscure bands with great energy live, are awful top listen to on radio.

So today I ordered my first gaming PC in almost 7 years! Since then, I've been predominately Xbox and PlayStation gamer.

However, I'm ready to get back into PC gaming and I need some recommendations and ideas!

I'm really looking for games that I can only get for the pc. Back in the day, I enjoyed casually playing mmorpg's like Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, and Asheron's Call 2.  Loved Diablo II, Age of Empires 2, and Guild Wars.

I'm planning on picking up Fallout 4 and maybe Age of Empires 2 (for old times sake). But other than that, I'm clueless.  I don't get much time anymore to game, so anything that's a time sink, I'm out. (I realize Fallout 4 is a huge game, but I'll take my time playing that).

Any suggestions? Was thinking about a casual mmorpg like The Elder Scrolls Online for my mmorpg fix. Should I even consider WoW? Never tried it.

Any ideas?

I'm eyeing Elite Dangerous, but concerned I would need something other than the kb and mouse to control. Any experience using the standard kb/mouse with that particular game?

31  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Is a Windows PC/laptop the way to go for everyday use? on: September 13, 2015, 04:06:36 PM
I'm getting really frustrated with my Chromebook and to a lesser extent, my IPad.

I like the Chromebooks, but I'm tired of having to go to the Google app store to find a compatible app to run a program. Tired of having to use an app to print, and then sometimes it doesn't work.

Before all this great technology arrived, I had a Windows desktop and laptop and never worried about compatibility. I surfed what I wanted to surf. I ran pretty much any program I wanted to run. I rarely had to install this app or that program to do my work.

Example, my son is taking an online course. I go to complete the registration process and it takes my Chromebook and IPad to do so. The Chromebook works part of the website, but not all. I need to install other apps I need to find on the Google app store first. I try the IPad, same deal. I get it done, but why does it take 2 systems and finding apps to do this? I need to make a spreadsheet on my work pc...hope it works on my Chromebook and iPad, if need be.

That being said, is a Windows setup the way to go to resolve these issues? I want hassle free computing. No searching for additional apps. Am I over thinking this? WTF?

Damn. This year's lineup is probably the best one I've seen yet in terms of the metal I like, but I can't see myself going on a cruise alone.

I wonder if Herman Li will play his guitar in a pool again like the last time Dragonforce was on the cruise.

I went to this year's and it was ridiculous fun.

I'm hoping/tentatively planning on the 2017 cruise. The wife went with me and had a blast. Not enough to go again, mind you.

So I'll be going solo in '17, if anyone is thinking about it.

Last night my wife and I went to a friends house with Dance Revolution for the Wii. Yes, the Wii.

Anyhow, it was a huge hit and the wife wants to get it for parties and friends we have over.

I'd actually dance myself, but this white boy just can't do it. On the other hand, I enjoy singing along to the lyrics and songs while those who enjoy making a fool of themselves, dance. Plus, I figured it's easy to sit there and sing and not risk spilling my beer.

Anyhow, our console is the PS4. I'm looking briefly and see my choices are limited to either Just Dance or Singstar, plus needing the PS4 camera. I'm a bit disappointed as I thought there would be something like a combination of both. Some can dance while some sing. Am I missing something here? Is there such a game?

Any closet dance or singing gamers want to chime in and offer suggestions?

I just don't ever remember playing a game where I just don't know what to do or where to go. My intentions were to stick to the main quest early on. But I'm lost and have so much to do, I just don't know where to go from here.

I tried playing a couple hours this morning and spent most of it trying to condense things and organize my characters and got no where. It's already feeling like a chore to play and that's worrisome at this point.

OK, I need some help or else I'm afraid I won't get any further into the game. I just finished the prologue.

First, let me say that I haven't played the other Dragon Age games. I'm thinking of going back and starting over after doing the thing on the Dragon Age website where you can import the world thingy.

However, my biggest issue is with combat. I watched the tutorial in the prologue about pausing during combat and issuing orders. I also have tried real time. Both ways, I'm getting dusted during combat. I can kill a damn thing. I did some online reading where folks are complaining it's way too easy. Therefore, I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong.

Can anyone give me a short guide on how to approach combat? Pause and give orders or real time.

My character I started with is a rogue, not sure if that matters.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Real Time is easier. I only really used pause during boss battles. One hint that may help is that you don't have to use the main character as your controlled person, if your main is an up close fighter consider switching to a ranged character and just attacking from afar while staying out of danger. The CPU does a good job of handling the other characters, especially at close range. This will let you see the action better and it will keep your controlled character out of trouble, all while they deal out big damage.

maybe that is the issue.

I just got frustrated on the first fights on the initial quest line. found some things to kill on that quest and got my group wiped several times and quit out of frustration.
