So today I ordered my first gaming PC in almost 7 years! Since then, I've been predominately Xbox and PlayStation gamer.

However, I'm ready to get back into PC gaming and I need some recommendations and ideas!

I'm really looking for games that I can only get for the pc. Back in the day, I enjoyed casually playing mmorpg's like Everquest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, and Asheron's Call 2.  Loved Diablo II, Age of Empires 2, and Guild Wars.

I'm planning on picking up Fallout 4 and maybe Age of Empires 2 (for old times sake). But other than that, I'm clueless.  I don't get much time anymore to game, so anything that's a time sink, I'm out. (I realize Fallout 4 is a huge game, but I'll take my time playing that).

Any suggestions? Was thinking about a casual mmorpg like The Elder Scrolls Online for my mmorpg fix. Should I even consider WoW? Never tried it.

Any ideas?

Love it thus far. Has played everything I've tried without fail. You can upgrade the hard drive and memory, if you'd like.

Endless Legend
Cities Skylines
Civ V & Beyond Earth
Company of Heroes 2
Gridiron Solitaire

Crusader Kings II
Dominions 4
Door Kickers
Frozen Synapse
The Golf Club
Grey Goo
Kentucky Route Zero
Ironcast
HOMM III HD
Homeworld Remastered
Jazzpunk
King Arthur II
Massive Chalice
Qvadriga

Sunset
Thirty Flights of Loving
Warlock 2
Banished
Wargame Airland Battle
Total War: Rome II

Thanks

I'm eyeing Elite Dangerous, but concerned I would need something other than the kb and mouse to control. Any experience using the standard kb/mouse with that particular game?

My Steam wish list is growing by the second.

Only sure things at this point is Fallout 4, StarCraft II, and probably WoW.

However, I have 4 or 5 others that if they go on sale this week, I'll be splurging for sure.

20  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Is a Windows PC/laptop the way to go for everyday use? on: September 13, 2015, 04:06:36 PM
I'm getting really frustrated with my Chromebook and to a lesser extent, my IPad.

I like the Chromebooks, but I'm tired of having to go to the Google app store to find a compatible app to run a program. Tired of having to use an app to print, and then sometimes it doesn't work.

Before all this great technology arrived, I had a Windows desktop and laptop and never worried about compatibility. I surfed what I wanted to surf. I ran pretty much any program I wanted to run. I rarely had to install this app or that program to do my work.

Example, my son is taking an online course. I go to complete the registration process and it takes my Chromebook and IPad to do so. The Chromebook works part of the website, but not all. I need to install other apps I need to find on the Google app store first. I try the IPad, same deal. I get it done, but why does it take 2 systems and finding apps to do this? I need to make a spreadsheet on my work pc...hope it works on my Chromebook and iPad, if need be.

That being said, is a Windows setup the way to go to resolve these issues? I want hassle free computing. No searching for additional apps. Am I over thinking this? WTF?

Damn. This year's lineup is probably the best one I've seen yet in terms of the metal I like, but I can't see myself going on a cruise alone.

I wonder if Herman Li will play his guitar in a pool again like the last time Dragonforce was on the cruise.

I went to this year's and it was ridiculous fun.

I'm hoping/tentatively planning on the 2017 cruise. The wife went with me and had a blast. Not enough to go again, mind you.

So I'll be going solo in '17, if anyone is thinking about it.

25  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Dance and Karaoke for PS4 recommendations on: July 18, 2015, 08:33:06 PM
Last night my wife and I went to a friends house with Dance Revolution for the Wii. Yes, the Wii.

Anyhow, it was a huge hit and the wife wants to get it for parties and friends we have over.

I'd actually dance myself, but this white boy just can't do it. On the other hand, I enjoy singing along to the lyrics and songs while those who enjoy making a fool of themselves, dance. Plus, I figured it's easy to sit there and sing and not risk spilling my beer.

Anyhow, our console is the PS4. I'm looking briefly and see my choices are limited to either Just Dance or Singstar, plus needing the PS4 camera. I'm a bit disappointed as I thought there would be something like a combination of both. Some can dance while some sing. Am I missing something here? Is there such a game?

Any closet dance or singing gamers want to chime in and offer suggestions?

Ok, got the combat down. However, holy cow am I overwhelmed with stuff to do!

I'm sure everyone knows. But I can't walk 5 feet without a quest, loot, battle, or some type of object in the world I'm suppose to interact with!

Align this picture of a constellation with the one shown here, yada yada yada.

Here's a new crafting recipe, yada yada yada

I just don't ever remember playing a game where I just don't know what to do or where to go. My intentions were to stick to the main quest early on. But I'm lost and have so much to do, I just don't know where to go from here.

I tried playing a couple hours this morning and spent most of it trying to condense things and organize my characters and got no where. It's already feeling like a chore to play and that's worrisome at this point.

OK, I need some help or else I'm afraid I won't get any further into the game. I just finished the prologue.

First, let me say that I haven't played the other Dragon Age games. I'm thinking of going back and starting over after doing the thing on the Dragon Age website where you can import the world thingy.

However, my biggest issue is with combat. I watched the tutorial in the prologue about pausing during combat and issuing orders. I also have tried real time. Both ways, I'm getting dusted during combat. I can kill a damn thing. I did some online reading where folks are complaining it's way too easy. Therefore, I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong.

Can anyone give me a short guide on how to approach combat? Pause and give orders or real time.

My character I started with is a rogue, not sure if that matters.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Real Time is easier. I only really used pause during boss battles. One hint that may help is that you don't have to use the main character as your controlled person, if your main is an up close fighter consider switching to a ranged character and just attacking from afar while staying out of danger. The CPU does a good job of handling the other characters, especially at close range. This will let you see the action better and it will keep your controlled character out of trouble, all while they deal out big damage.

maybe that is the issue.

I just got frustrated on the first fights on the initial quest line. found some things to kill on that quest and got my group wiped several times and quit out of frustration.

Interesting you still play this.

Just today I started seriously considering buying this for the PS4. I played the Xbone version for 100+ hours at launch and absolutely love it.

However, I went with Hardline and I'm just not feeling it. I probably have near 50 hours of Hardline, but I've nearly lost all desire to continue. I had thought about giving the dlc a chance, but it really doesn't appeal to me.

I also read BF4 is going strong and has more players than Hardline.

For BF4, did I not read that all the dlc is free? What's the exact deal for buying on the PS4?

So, I have an older Macbook.  I bought it used from a buddy 3 years ago and he had it a couple years before that.

Anyhow....

The computer works great and I still get good use from it. However, I'm having problems with the screen that is making it nearly impossible at times to use.

Essentially, I have to hold the screen at a certain angle with one hand while using the other to actually use it. If I don't hold the screen in place, it freezes or I get a complete black fuzzy screen.

I have tightened the screws on the back, thinking if I secure it better that I won't have to use my hand to stabilize it. That didn't work.  So now, I'm stuck with holding it still with one hand and the other to use it.

Any advice on what I might do to get the screen to stabilize without having to hold it?

I just can't do the quick count. I'm a baseball purist and I want control of everything possible. Playing games in full definitely limits my ability to get more games in, but I can't help it.

Also, surprised no one made comment on my video above. I still click on it and get a good laugh. When I played college ball, we had someone take a shot like that and had to have his jaw wired shut.

Back to the game....has anyone found a way to reasonably earn stubs? I love playing Dynasty, but could really use some stubs to buy some packs for a chance at a decent starter.

Particularly shooters....

I love the CoD and Battlefield games, but I'm just dead awful. I know it's because I don't have the time commitment as others have. And quite simply, it's borderline me quit buying and playing them.

I'm usually decent the first week. But once everyone has the maps and weapons down, I'm toast.

I loved Battlefield Hardline, but it's so frustrating at this point, I'm wasting my time. I honestly can barely stay alive for 15 seconds.

Anyone else in this camp?
