Scotch, neat. Single malt. Maybe a dash of water.

When I'm socializing, a seasonal beer.

4  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Office/Task Chairs on: September 11, 2013, 07:12:51 PM

I have the Staples Mesh Managers Chair in your second link there.  It's comfortable, though I have some issues with getting the settings right.  I'm about the same size as you, 6'2 and 240 and it just seems... a bit cheap for what you're paying.  Try for something more, if you can.  Just my .02 with several months in the chair.

EDIT: Also, because of the angle the chair rests at when I'm gaming/working, I rarely use the headrest unless I am not actively typing or controlling anything; usually YouTube video watching.  The headrest on that chair is great, but because of the way it "sits", it's more of a novelty.

I think this is why I've always gravitated towards RPGs.  I feel like (in the good ones), I'm making decisions and they matter.  With shooters, the helicopter is going to crash every.damned.time.

This and I still get a little motion sickness with shooters.

First person vomit projection doesn't sound awesome.   I'm assuming you've tried all the lighting / distance / rain dance stuff?

I've tried various things, but the only one that works is staying away from the genre. They rarely held my interest anyway.

Having reviewed a great many of them over the years, sadly you aren't missing much.  biggrin
I'm assuming that you are meaning over a long period of time, there have been some shooters lately that are pretty awesome. I'm thinking Bioshock, Tomb Raider, etc.

10  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 19 Firefighters Killed in AZ Wildfire on: July 02, 2013, 04:04:00 AM
I worked a couple summers as a firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management near Safford/Thatcher right after high school.  We mostly just got called for brush fires and stuff closer to town that was still on Federal land, including Mount Graham.  My most memorable experience was talking with the smoke jumpers, the guys who would rappel in behind the fire lines and fight them from "behind" as it were.  These guys were similarly equipped; lots of weight in equipment.  The area of the Yarnell Hill fire is a lot of dead low-lying brush and dry trees; combinations of mesquite and juniper, mostly.  Because that area is so rugged and the dead brush and grass has been gathering for years, it can cause weird effects where the fire can change direction and surround people SO fast.  The smoke jumpers used to talk about how a fire jumps from tree to tree in the pine forest...these close-to-ground fires sprint faster than any person alive.  I've heard it described in high winds as looking like someone poured gasoline over everything.  My heart goes out to the families and friends; it takes an amazingly special kind of person to do that job by choice.

Ron, I follow the @syfy twitter feed and they had a Q&A this morning: no more "advance looks", that was only for the premier.  I really liked it as well, but I pretty much don't watch anything these days unless it's on my DVR first, so I didn't notice them that much.

As for Peter Dinklage, the only role I could think of off the top of my head that would be great for him would be Arcade, but that doesn't seem to make any sense for a time travel plot.  Or maybe they could put a giant goober suit on him and make him Mojo lol.

Or MODOK, in the vein of using effects. If he plays Puck, he'd also better be in the next Wolverine movie, with the rest of Alpha Flight.

The problem I see with a WoW movie is that you'll have to spend nearly the entire movie getting people onboard with the fiction (they won't assume that you know anything about it - they'll spoon-feed it to you) and it'll be tough to get into any sort of actual content.  Lord of the Rings, we kinda get it and they still took a month of Sundays to explain a great deal of the lore.
Yup. That's why most epic stories are told in the trilogy format nowadays. As long as they end the first movie with enough world and character development, folks would flock to the next and the next.

Ben Whishaw unveiled as the new Q

I haven't heard of him either

The pair said: 'It’s a real thrill to confirm the return of Q in 'Skyfall' played by the enormously talented, Ben Whishaw. We are delighted to have this beloved character back in the series.'

Looking on IMDB,the only thing that really sticks out for me is that he was in Layer Cake which also starred Daniel Craig, but that's fine,as much as i love John Cleese,i am not really sure the role of Q was right for him
I think he was the lead in the BBC show The Hour. Good show about how news came to be on television in the UK in the '50s.

Oddly, I have the first 20-odd issues of the original Guardians published in the 90s. I have read a few of the new ones, and they have practically nothing in common, except for an appearance by Starhawk. The original Guardians were like 1000 years in the future, the 2008 versions are in the present. From what I read during the Secret Invasion story line, it could be cool.

I got mine last week; I love it.  My next task is to find some awesome games. With the docking station, it's perfect for journal writing. My trip to Scotland in the autumn will consist of some blog entries and photos all done with my Prime. We shall see how it goes. I'll post the blog address later this summer when I get it straightened out, if anyone is interested.

The tablet is the only computer device I'm taking with; since I have Sprint, my ECO won't work in the UK. Smaller than a laptop, I'm just plain excited. This thing is awesome. Fast and responsive.

The splitter is more likely to cause issues with your modem than image quality on your dvr. However, if you've never had regular connection problems in the past, you will likely be okay. As far as the electronics being in proximity to each other, I would just try to raise or separate the wireless router as much as possible due to emi. The other devices should be unaffected. This is a very basic answer, but as fast as splitter quality goes, I think the "1000 MHz" splitter choice us a good one. My RF knowledge is admittedly limited, but what you want is as much signal with as little noise as possible.

I tried various times to get jump pack footage, but I have this habit of overshooting my targets badly. Still effective due to the huge stun/knockback radius, but it's pretty goofy for video footage.
I noticed that if I tap the jetpack button he will quickly skim across the ground towards wherever I'm aiming.  It's a quick way to close ground without using a big jump.  Not sure if it will be tactically useful in the full game, but it was a nice surprise when I accidentely did it.
Reminds me a lot of Tribes with the jet pack tricks/exploits you could do.

I have dreams of a lighter (still) heavyweight climbing on Lesnar's back and choking him out ala Cary Elwes to Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride.  Lesnar is a beast, but still kind of a pro-wrestling cocky prick, IMO.  I just don't like him, and I know there are those who agree with me.

There is also a fight between Tito Ortiz and Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.  Matt is deaf, but an amazing fighter despite not being able to hear his coaching.  Einsteinium coined the nickname "Deaf Jedi" for him.  I'm looking forward to that fight as well.
