921  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / flight sim question on: December 18, 2004, 08:40:16 PM
What's the best, available-in-stores, flight sim? I just got a new joystick (do we still call them that?) and wanted to pick up a new game. I'd prefer WWII, but am open to almost anything with guns. A good manual would be a plus, as I am pretty new to this genre. Thanks for your help.

923  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / EQ2 CE now for sale/trade on: December 14, 2004, 03:59:02 AM
Still available.

I love older PC games, even ones that sucked many times.  Along with those listed above, I'd be interested in Phantasmogoria, Shadow Warrior, among many more.  Send me a list if you have one.  Also would take the re-released Bad Mojo.

Thanks.
924  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / BFME Strat guide worth it? on: December 11, 2004, 03:51:15 PM
Has anyone purchased the LOTR Battle for Middle Earth strat guide?  I'm almost more interested in it for unit details, etc., having become a bit of a LOTR nut after re-watching the dvds.  I guess I'm asking if it's a good read along with good strategies for the game, although from what I understand, not much strategy is needed!

My cousin never even touched the game. He left it in the box untouched, so when I called to ask how he liked it and he told me it was untouched, I asked for it back. He was not going to get around to playing it.

So, if you are interested, please let me know!
927  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I loved Morrowind, any other suggestions? on: December 05, 2004, 10:36:53 PM
Gothic 2 is excellent.  Great scenery, decent combat, and it has more of a living world than MW.
Alternatively, check out the countless MW mods on the net.  Some of them make playing it feel like a whole new game.
928  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle For Middle Earth - Just 3 days to go! on: December 04, 2004, 10:55:54 PM
Most of the screen shots in magazines show the battles from a ground level viewpoint, making it seem like the battles from the movies.  Yet all of the gameplay footage I've seen online have been from a bird's eye perspective.  Is there still a "trooper" view in the game, and if so, is it playable from that angle?  With the new extended version dvd coming out, I just know my lack of will power will kick my ass and force me to get this game.
929  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Deus Ex 2 mods on: December 04, 2004, 02:51:20 PM
As I near the end of HL2, I have my eye on starting Deus Ex 2 over and this time actually finishing it.  Are there any good mods out there?  I know there are a couple of texture mods, but I don't know which is better.  And are there any other mods, that improve gameplay, etc?  I tried a search but came up emtpy.  Thanks.
930  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / anyone getting Prince of Persia - Warrior Within? on: December 02, 2004, 09:34:52 PM
Why did the PS2 version get a whole .1 more than the Xbox from Gamespot?  PS2 got 8.8 while Xbox got 8.7.  I know it's no biggie, but I'm just curious.  And I'm just lazy to read the reviews.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys.  Family, etc.  Anyway, I'm sorry to have offered the game, but I ended up "lending" it to my younger cousin this weekend.  If he doesn't take to it, I asked that he give it back to me to offer up for trade.  He's 25, so I expect it will stay in the same excellent condition.  In the meantime, I'm taking this game off the market.  My apologizes to those who were interested in the trade, and I hope that we can possibly trade in the future.  Thanks.

Collector's Edition Features:

The Collector's Edition will include the following In-game items:
Paintings of EQII scenery/screenshots to be used in player housing
Talking statues of Antonia and Lucan to be used in player housing
Exclusive baby dragon pet for player house

The Collector's Edition will also include the following in-box items:
Exclusive Art Book
Bonus DVD with all the trailers, gameplay videos and behind the scenes footage
Soundtrack CD
Collectors coin with velvet pouch
Cloth map of Norrath
Poster with Qeynos and Freeport maps on each side
Poster with Antonia and Lucan on each side

I played it twice, so everything is in excellent condition.  The free month will be done I'm sure by the time this gets sold or traded, but otherwise everything is included - all in the heavy tin box.

I'm looking for $$$$ or a few games:
**Roller coaster Tycoon 3 (Main one I am looking for)**
Drakan (?) (older pc dragon flying game, if it works in xp)
UFO aftermath
c&c Generals +exp
Call of Duty + expansion
Children of the nile
LOTR: 3rd age (xbox)
XBOX games
Soldiers of WWII guide, Freedom Force guide or Battle for middle earth guide
any others? shoot me a list.

Cash-wise, I'd be asking about $60 because the box is heavy and would cost alot to ship.  I'm negotiable, and can mix and match cash and games.

maybe:
KOTOR
GTA Vice City
Star Wars Battlefront
Joint Ops and expansion
Let me know.  Thanks.
934  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle For Middle Earth - Just 3 days to go! on: November 22, 2004, 03:02:34 AM
Maybe I'm being petty, but I really have a hard time wanting this because it's an EA game.  Otherwise, I'd be all over it.
935  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / good, free firewall? on: November 22, 2004, 02:59:35 AM
Thanks for the advice.  I'll be giving ZoneAlarm the pass and looking into sygate.
936  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / good, free firewall? on: November 21, 2004, 08:25:11 PM
I had started to research this a while back at GG.  Are there any good, free firewalls out there?  Not a free trial, but a free program.  Also please tell me how it would affect games both online and off.  Thanks.
937  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EQ2 hints and tips on: November 18, 2004, 10:35:46 PM
This is a great thread!  That said, how is the strategy guide for EQ2?  I like having a bound, printed book to refer to easily rather than a print out of a faq.  I know things change in MMO games, but does the book at least have good maps and character development guides?  If anyone has picked it up or seen it at a store, please post your findings here!
938  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / real simple: How do I play Half-life 2 w/o steam??? on: November 17, 2004, 02:16:32 AM
Ok, I checked the properties and it says 100% complete, but it requires an update and is not ready for offline.  At the steam website, it doesn't explain how to make it ready for offline.  I also can't find the option to update!  Should I be embarrassed that I can't figure it out, or furious that I can't figure it out?
939  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / real simple: How do I play Half-life 2 w/o steam??? on: November 17, 2004, 02:05:38 AM
Thanks for the help guys.  I have decades of experience installing and playing pc games.  I'm talking back in the days of dos boot disks.  Yet this one threw me for a loop.  I can't imagine the casual player who decides to break into pc gaming starting with this game.  I mean, the advertisement for a video card was bigger than the little help card that came with the game!
940  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / real simple: How do I play Half-life 2 w/o steam??? on: November 17, 2004, 12:52:27 AM
I thought I installed it correctly.  I thought I registered with steam correctly.  They confirmed my username and password.  I thought I entered the cd-key correctly and thought they confirmed it.

But when I go to play the game, it requires that I am online.  The website stinks and is no help.  Please help this simple man to figure out this stupidly complicated process!  Thanks!
941  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Woohoo! Got me an Xbox - VGA Adapter advice? -PS2 & GC on: November 14, 2004, 10:50:40 PM
Maybe this is a silly question, but how do you get sound when you hook it up to a vga monitor?  I'm technically inept, and had wondered about hooking my xbox up to my computer and or monitor, but the sound issue confused me.

Has anyone bought the CE yet?  Exactly what comes in it?  I know a t-shirt, etc., but I am curious about the Prima book.  I'm kind of expecting a pamphlet or thin, stapled sampler of the real guide.  I hope I'm wrong though.

Also, does anyone think HL-Source will show up again besides the collector's edition?  I forsee either a total conversion or a freebie in the future of half life source.  Hopefully...

944  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / ODB died Saturday on: November 14, 2004, 04:08:46 AM
Ol' Dirty Bastard died today while in the recording studio:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041114/ap_on_en_mu/obit_odb

(Sorry, I don't know how to make a "clean" link.)

I used to like Wu Tang Clan back when I was in college.  He (ODB) was quite a character.  This is a shame.
945  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Valve books in stores Nov 12th on: November 11, 2004, 03:08:49 AM
Raising the bar sounds interesting - I enjoy behind the scenes books.  As a kid, I would get the Star Wars makings of-books when I saw the movies.  Good bathroom reading at least.

While I am a strat guide junkie, I never have bought a fps guide book.  To me, strat guides are worth it for rts or role playing games - mostly for the maps.  I feel that it would give too much of the story away for hl2.

947  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox to computer monitor? on: November 07, 2004, 04:03:42 PM
I've basically lost tv priviledges.  My 6 month old has taken over our bedroom, and my wife and I sleep in the living room now!  So since my wife sleeps early, I cannot turn on the tv and use my xbox.  Is there any way to hook up the xbox to the computer monitor or computer?  This way I can play Halo2.  Please help...
948  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / LOTR: TTA (More impressions please!) on: November 07, 2004, 03:53:36 PM
I've tried to find out about the save system, but probably missed it in my skimming of articles.  What is the save system like?  If it's checkpoint, how close are they?
949  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Sacred PLUS: October 29th on: November 06, 2004, 10:30:58 PM
I was thinking of picking this one up.  One question though.  I know the world is huge, but how are the dungeons?  Are they generic sewer type jammies or interesting to explore?  Also, how reflective of the final game is the demo?  Thanks.
950  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / LF: Soldiers Heroes of WWII guide on: November 06, 2004, 12:04:07 AM
Looking for the strat guide.  Have these strat guides for trade:

-Sims 2
-KOTOR
-Fable
-Full Spectrum Warrior
-Riddick
-Age of Mythology
-Diablo II (covers expansion)
-Age of Wonders Wizard's Throne
-Redguard
-a few others to dig up
-possibly a few bucks

I need to get my GG trade feedback verified, but I had either +11 or +12.
951  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox live connection question on: November 02, 2004, 11:54:50 PM
cool.  Thanks for the info.  I see quite a headache setting everything up.  My modem in a different room than the xbox, so running cables, etc. will be tough.  I'll check the prices on the routers, etc. anyway encase.
952  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox live connection question on: November 02, 2004, 03:24:27 AM
I just recently upgraded to dsl, and was wondering what hardware I need besides the xbox and the live subscription/headset.  I have the phone line spliters attached to each phone, answering machine, and computer, along with the modem hooked up to the computer.  For the xbox, would I need a whole 'nother modem, or just the line splitter from the phone line to the xbox?
953  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MOH: Pacific Assault on: November 02, 2004, 03:05:25 AM
But how is the actual game?
954  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / MOH: Pacific Assault on: November 02, 2004, 12:49:44 AM
Any word on this one?  The director's cut comes out this week w/ what looks like some interesting extras for WWII buffs.

Is this game a port of some sort from the console's Rising Sun?  I believe that game was pretty lame, so I'm looking for info on this one.  The one review at Gamerankings listed as a 4.5/5, but the link did not lead to a review!  While I'm a bit bored with WWII shooters (CoD was vastly overrated in my book; it was good fun, but not the second coming of WWII FPS), I'm interested to see a different theater of war.
955  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / CG WoW Guild Discussion! on: October 30, 2004, 07:32:57 PM
I'm pretty casual w/ online games, but I'm good to go for a few hours a week, give or take.  I don't know what type of guy I'm going to make yet, but it will be an Alliance character.
956  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / memory question on: October 30, 2004, 07:29:14 PM
Got the ram for a total of 1gig.  Can already see some differences in load times and performance in doom3.  Now onto Halflife 2!

Oh, and the lady at the store asked me if I had ram in my pocket or was I happy to see her.  Yes!  The ePenis enlargement is working already  ...
957  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / memory question on: October 30, 2004, 01:32:02 AM
I currently have an AMD 64 3400+ w/ a radeon 9800 pro and 512mb pc 2700 ram.  How great of a performance increase should I expect to see if I upgrade the memory to 1 gig?  Thanks in advance.
958  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / HL2 collectors edition on: October 24, 2004, 01:42:58 PM
It states that it comes with the complete prima book, but there are 3 different prima books!  A strat guide, a "makings of" book, and a mod maker book.  Any ideas which one is in the bundle?  My guess is the strat guide.
959  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines on: October 24, 2004, 01:33:48 PM
I know some people scoff at this question, but can you find out about how many hours long the game is?
960  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / exploring in WoW & EQ2 on: October 24, 2004, 02:02:15 AM
Quote from: "Raven"

Plus, WOW has the rest state, which means anyone who is offline for 8 hours will get a 200% exp bonus the next time they log on. The duration of the exp bonus is based on how long you were camped, but an 8 hour camp is the minimum - I think so, anyway.

That's the best idea I've heard from this genre of games.  This alone could sway me towards wow.  Also, the collector's edition is 10 bucks cheaper than eq2's collector edition. smile
