Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Battle For Middle Earth - Just 3 days to go!
|
on: December 04, 2004, 10:55:54 PM
|
|
Most of the screen shots in magazines show the battles from a ground level viewpoint, making it seem like the battles from the movies. Yet all of the gameplay footage I've seen online have been from a bird's eye perspective. Is there still a "trooper" view in the game, and if so, is it playable from that angle? With the new extended version dvd coming out, I just know my lack of will power will kick my ass and force me to get this game.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Deus Ex 2 mods
|
on: December 04, 2004, 02:51:20 PM
|
|
As I near the end of HL2, I have my eye on starting Deus Ex 2 over and this time actually finishing it. Are there any good mods out there? I know there are a couple of texture mods, but I don't know which is better. And are there any other mods, that improve gameplay, etc? I tried a search but came up emtpy. Thanks.

Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / EQ2 CE now for sale/trade

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. Family, etc. Anyway, I'm sorry to have offered the game, but I ended up "lending" it to my younger cousin this weekend. If he doesn't take to it, I asked that he give it back to me to offer up for trade. He's 25, so I expect it will stay in the same excellent condition. In the meantime, I'm taking this game off the market. My apologizes to those who were interested in the trade, and I hope that we can possibly trade in the future. Thanks.

I had started to research this a while back at GG. Are there any good, free firewalls out there? Not a free trial, but a free program. Also please tell me how it would affect games both online and off. Thanks.

Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / EQ2 hints and tips
|
on: November 18, 2004, 10:35:46 PM
|
|
This is a great thread! That said, how is the strategy guide for EQ2? I like having a bound, printed book to refer to easily rather than a print out of a faq. I know things change in MMO games, but does the book at least have good maps and character development guides? If anyone has picked it up or seen it at a store, please post your findings here!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / real simple: How do I play Half-life 2 w/o steam???
|
on: November 17, 2004, 02:16:32 AM
|
|
Ok, I checked the properties and it says 100% complete, but it requires an update and is not ready for offline. At the steam website, it doesn't explain how to make it ready for offline. I also can't find the option to update! Should I be embarrassed that I can't figure it out, or furious that I can't figure it out?

Thanks for the help guys. I have decades of experience installing and playing pc games. I'm talking back in the days of dos boot disks. Yet this one threw me for a loop. I can't imagine the casual player who decides to break into pc gaming starting with this game. I mean, the advertisement for a video card was bigger than the little help card that came with the game!

I thought I installed it correctly. I thought I registered with steam correctly. They confirmed my username and password. I thought I entered the cd-key correctly and thought they confirmed it.
But when I go to play the game, it requires that I am online. The website stinks and is no help. Please help this simple man to figure out this stupidly complicated process! Thanks!

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I have Half-Life 2 in my hand
|
on: November 14, 2004, 04:02:40 PM

Has anyone bought the CE yet? Exactly what comes in it? I know a t-shirt, etc., but I am curious about the Prima book. I'm kind of expecting a pamphlet or thin, stapled sampler of the real guide. I hope I'm wrong though. Also, does anyone think HL-Source will show up again besides the collector's edition? I forsee either a total conversion or a freebie in the future of half life source. Hopefully...

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Valve books in stores Nov 12th

Raising the bar sounds interesting - I enjoy behind the scenes books. As a kid, I would get the Star Wars makings of-books when I saw the movies. Good bathroom reading at least.
While I am a strat guide junkie, I never have bought a fps guide book. To me, strat guides are worth it for rts or role playing games - mostly for the maps. I feel that it would give too much of the story away for hl2.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox to computer monitor?
|
on: November 07, 2004, 04:03:42 PM

I've basically lost tv priviledges. My 6 month old has taken over our bedroom, and my wife and I sleep in the living room now! So since my wife sleeps early, I cannot turn on the tv and use my xbox. Is there any way to hook up the xbox to the computer monitor or computer? This way I can play Halo2. Please help...

I was thinking of picking this one up. One question though. I know the world is huge, but how are the dungeons? Are they generic sewer type jammies or interesting to explore? Also, how reflective of the final game is the demo? Thanks.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / xbox live connection question
|
on: November 02, 2004, 03:24:27 AM

I just recently upgraded to dsl, and was wondering what hardware I need besides the xbox and the live subscription/headset. I have the phone line spliters attached to each phone, answering machine, and computer, along with the modem hooked up to the computer. For the xbox, would I need a whole 'nother modem, or just the line splitter from the phone line to the xbox?

Any word on this one? The director's cut comes out this week w/ what looks like some interesting extras for WWII buffs.
Is this game a port of some sort from the console's Rising Sun? I believe that game was pretty lame, so I'm looking for info on this one. The one review at Gamerankings listed as a 4.5/5, but the link did not lead to a review! While I'm a bit bored with WWII shooters (CoD was vastly overrated in my book; it was good fun, but not the second coming of WWII FPS), I'm interested to see a different theater of war.

Got the ram for a total of 1gig. Can already see some differences in load times and performance in doom3. Now onto Halflife 2!
Oh, and the lady at the store asked me if I had ram in my pocket or was I happy to see her. Yes! The ePenis enlargement is working already  ...

It states that it comes with the complete prima book, but there are 3 different prima books! A strat guide, a "makings of" book, and a mod maker book. Any ideas which one is in the bundle? My guess is the strat guide.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / exploring in WoW & EQ2

on: October 24, 2004, 02:02:15 AM

Plus, WOW has the rest state, which means anyone who is offline for 8 hours will get a 200% exp bonus the next time they log on. The duration of the exp bonus is based on how long you were camped, but an 8 hour camp is the minimum - I think so, anyway.
That's the best idea I've heard from this genre of games. This alone could sway me towards wow. Also, the collector's edition is 10 bucks cheaper than eq2's collector edition.

For those of you who have been playing these two games, yet another question... I am a casual mmorpg player who might be able to manage 5-10 hours a week, maybe more, maybe less. I am really looking for a mmorpg that is fun to explore and check out new areas. I don't play to rush through levels, although I know certain levels are needed to visit certain places. But out of wow and eq2, which is better in terms of cool vistas and interesting scenery and places to visit? I'd play both solo and in groups, but mainly to check out the lands, meet people, and kill cool things. Thanks in advance.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Halflife 1 help
|
on: October 22, 2004, 12:27:37 AM
|

I'm sorry if this is considered inappropriate, but..
All this Halflife 2 talk has got me re-installing the original. Thing is, I only have the CD, but did not save the case with the cd-key. I can easily take a picture of my disk with any other proof that I DO own this game. Is there a way someone can zap me over a cd-key for the game? I DO own it, and can prove it in anyway that is necessary. You can email me. If this is viewed as piracy from CG, then forget I even asked this, but rest assured that I own this game - it's the original disk from the first day it was released! Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if I am breaking any forum rules by requesting this. Thanks.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Planetside...?
|
on: October 20, 2004, 11:24:21 PM

I've always been interested in playing this game again (after a two week long bout when it was first released). Now there is a $20 version out with two expansions. I would like opinions on this game in it's current state, and if it's worth looking into. Are enough people playing it each night to make it worthwhile? And is anyone from CG or GG still playing? I remember Redfive being a fan of the game, is that still so?
I finally got broadband, so I'm itching to get into some online games. Planetside seems like my type of thing.

This is not meant as a dig, but what qualifies Sacred as "The most successful game of the year"? Successful at what? Where do companies come up with this?
I have never played Sacred, yet, so I don't know how good it is, so don't take my above question as a critisism of the game, but of the marketing.
