oh yeah, that's coming out.  definitely getting it but I'll probably wait for a sale since I won't get to it right away anyways.
I donít blame you for waiting on DLC but it looks like itís only $10.  Dishonored was my favorite game of last year so if the missions are as long and in-depth as they were in the main game thatís not a bad price for the time it will take to play through them.

Use GMG20-GGN5D-FC3NA 20% off code at greenmangaming.com and you can get it down to $8.

I know one game that doesn't work with Windows 8. The Sims Medieval with latest patch doesn't work because of the DRM. If you can find the patch that remove the DRM, it'll run without any problem on Windows 8.

Windows 8 seems to be more stable than Windows 7 for me.

I religiously use Steam, so the "always on" feature wont bother me....unless it is as sh!tty as Uplay.

Always on of the new xbox according to rumor is the same as the uplay back when they'll kick you out of your game if you lost connection to the server.

Steam's version is to verify when you start a game when in online mode and unless you're playing multiplayer game, it'll not bother you until you quit your game when it'll fail to sync to the cloud if you use cloud save. Steam version also allow you to switch to offline mode which doesn't require internet connection as long as you have played the game once in online mode.

I might not agree with them on most social issues, but at least my reps won't sell me out on pointless gun restrictions.

Do you support a handgun ban?

And I think the idea that "assault" weapons are the problem is ludicrous.  A lot more people die from handguns than long rifles or "assault" weapons.  And again, all of them are semi-auto, one bullet per trigger pull.  Extended magazines exist for pistols as well.

I'm willing to look at efforts to improve restrictions to licensing regulations.  But when the ratio is 17:1 of handgun to all rifle deaths, I see the focus on "assault" rifles as ludicrous.  I understand it's because of the visibility due to the recent shootings, but again, people in this country, and a lot of others, are more interested in doing something that has a high visibility than spending the time to do the right thing and actually have an impact.

So maybe instead of "assault" rifle ban, you need handgun ban. smile

had a couple of hours to kill this morning so I fired up Wings to continue the campaign.  got all set to play when the game started updating and then it said it needed to reconfigure the game files, which proceeded to kill about 90 minutes with what appeared to be a massive download frown

It's preloading about 6 gbs worth of HOTS data, even if you didn't pre-order it.  It did that for me too when I re-installed SC2 last week.  If you go into your SCII install directory\updates folder, there should be a folder with HotS somewhere.

they actually did this?  loaded an entire expansion on your pc even though you haven't bought it.  what a pain in the ass if all you want to do is go back and finish up the first one.  I was tempted to revisit it myself and finish up WoL, but between the huge patches which it will need to get plus this, I'm going to spend my gaming time 'playing something', not watching a download bar inch across the screen slowly.

I think you can start playing after "setup" phase is done and let the rest download in background.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 13, 2013, 01:01:39 AM
I think the server serves two functions, for the city saves and the region saves (or snapshots). No complex computation on the server side.

To play, you need to be able to load your saves then you can lose connection to the server and you can continue play as long as you don't quit. And to be able to save your progress, you need to have access to the server when you quit the game.

So there is no real  gameplay reason why there is no offline mode.
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC] SimCity impressions on: March 06, 2013, 01:15:38 AM
Played about 2 hours by joining a public region in Oceanic server. Didn't get to try the region play because the other players are mostly inactive or maybe I just didn't know how to interact with them.

Can't offer any services to the "active" players because there is an abandoned city between my city and them.

Without the region play, this is just like a smaller Simcity 4 where you have to build everything that your city need. I think it'll be more fun if a bunch of us get together and split role so that we each start a city that focus on something that the other cities need.

I fiddled with Windows 8 a bit at a Best Buy, on one of the newer Ultrabooks (which has a touchscreen if you feel like it etc.). Hadda get a bud at another forum to explain to me how to get back to the Metro main screen, once you're in a program/application (click/touch lower left corner). I woulda thought maybe Esc or something like that would get you back.
Press the Windows/Start button get you back to the main screen. Think of the Metro Main screen as a full screen simplified start menu.

My problem with the metro interface is that you need to do more than one click/touch to access your programs on your old start menu. You need to get to the start menu then open the bottom bar to show the All Apps button. Then you touch or click that to show the contents of your old start menu.

And it also ignore second level folder of your start menu. So anything under gog.com/ are now listed in gog.com section so all those utilities that is contained in each game folder are now all together, since a lot of those have the same name, now it is hard to find the correct one.

I saw it last weekend and agree that it's a really good movie...interesting concept, good action, and it's a time-travel movie that actually holds up pretty well under scrutiny. It's definitely one of the better scifi movies that I've seen in quite a while  icon_cool

I actually thought that while it was pretty interesting take, and I loved how the lines between good guy and bad guy were very blurry, the time travel logic broke down pretty fast.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The scene where they dismembered young Seth to get old Seth to come back (only to be killed), while impressively disturbing, was broken.  They proved that they changed Old Seths history by doing things to young Seth - so obviously then that should extend to the thirty years that Old Seth spent up to that point!  As soon as they started cutting off feet and hands clearly Old Seth would never have left that hospital bed, never did anything for 30 years and would never have run away, even assuming he had existed until his loop...  Wasn't the whole point of not killing young Seth because the future impact would be too catastrophic, according to Abe?

I think Young Joe killing himself was more consistent, although it's harder to follow the loops.  At that moment Old Joe ceased to exist... so that means that nothing Joe did after that event ever happened.  No future mob life, no killing off the mob (so I assume Abe and the gang appeared as soon as Old Joe disappeared), no killing of the kids, etc.  They implied that the future was totally changed, so I guess that one works.

Just felt like they were a little inconsistent in the writing around the impact of changes in the past on the future.

Spoiler for Hiden:
If Seth die young then there'll be no old Seth to send back. Young Seth will not fail to kill his old self because that can't happen. So it'll become a big paradox, the future can totally change.

The point is to leave young Seth alive so that the next young Seth can fix the problem. The point is to close the timeline loop or in this case a loop of two timelines.

To do that, they have to send old Seth back to young Seth. So I think what they're doing is to capture young seth, cut his limbs to force old Seth out then keep him alive for 30 years and send him back to be killed by young Seth. They're hoping that in the next timeline, young Seth will not fail to kill his older self because Seth will know what'll happen to him if he can't kill his older self. He'll then kill his older and invalid self and then the timeline loop will change back to Seth get to live for 30 years healthy. So I think in this case there are two possible timeline that keep looping. One is young Seth failed then next one Seth succeeded then loop back to the first version. This kind of loop is probably acceptable since the future will be the same for at least one version. 50% of future dimension change is better than 100%.

I think this is how the looper organization deal with the failure. They make sure that it'll not fail in the next version.

Now with the young Joe killed himself, that is something that the organization try to avoid. It is why they choose people who are selfish to be loopers. As long as young Joe doesn't kill himself, the loop can be closed. Joe's loop is longer than Seth. Joe has a complex timelines that close in one big loop.

Apple's apps store had "cheapen intellectual properties" far more than Steam sales. $10 in Apple apps store is considered to be expensive. The same with Google Play's apps pricing.

If Microsoft manages to get ios developers that make cheap casual games to make apps for Windows 8 apps store that can run on Windows RT tablets, Windows 8 tablets, and Windows 8 Desktop and laptops, it can affect the pricing of PC games and also compete with Steam.

To use one example, here's a report on how Australia's gun ban has affected gun crime.

Quote
It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer.  In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime.  In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner.

I'm sure someone's going to call bias on the site, but the stats are what they are. Passing a law is not equivalent to enforcing the law. The Prohibition shows as much. Don't confuse a ban on guns with the literal lack of availability of guns, particularly for people who are willing to break the law anyway.

Not only biased, that article is wrong.

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/gun-control-in-australia/

Quote
Have murders increased since the gun law change, as claimed? Actually, Australian crime statistics show a marked decrease in homicides since the gun law change. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, a government agency, the number of homicides in Australia did increase slightly in 1997 and peaked in 1999, but has since declined to the lowest number on record in 2007, the most recent year for which official figures are available.

Furthermore, murders using firearms have declined even more sharply than murders in general since the 1996 gun law. In the seven years prior to 1997, firearms were used in 24 percent of all Australian homicides. But most recently, firearms were used in only 11 percent of Australian homicides, according to figures for the 12 months ending July 1, 2007. Thatís a decline of more than half since enactment of the gun law to which this message refers.

What is higher? 24 percent in the 7 years prior to 1997 or 16.3 percent of 2006?

We're not tossing out the 2nd Amendment.

Why not?

Why do you need the 2nd Amendment?

Generally, it feels like gun control laws are much like the piracy warnings on DVDs.  Law abiding people get annoyed and hindered by them, while the law breakers bypass them entirely.

I disagree with this mostly.  Stealing a movie or game is difficult to get caught in and the consequences are rather light (short of getting wtfsued by the RIAA or MPAA).  Getting caught with a gun is considerably easier to do than getting caught with an illegal copy of Call Me Maybe on your iPhone.

You seem to be focused on the odds of getting caught, but the intent of my analogy was with regards to the effectiveness of the preventative measures.  Criminals are stymied by strict gun control just as much as a movie downloader is stymied by the copy protection notice he will never see.

A total ban of gun can stop someone like this Holmes.

Sure because theres no way if theres a total ban of guns, that Holmes could have gotten his hands on one.   retard

It'll make it harder if not near impossible for him to get guns if there is a total ban. People always claim that criminals can always get guns, but it'll still be much harder for them to get them if there is a total ban. For someone like Holmes that have no criminal background and connection, it'll be much harder.

A question to those that think that having more guns help in this situation. If there are multiple people that carry guns and shooting, how do you as a gun carrier know which one to shoot at and how do you avoid getting shoot by other gun carriers? How do you know if the "terrorist" is acting alone or if there are multiple of them?

Fable 3 is up for flash sale.

Since the game is not available for my country, can someone here help me by gift Fable 3 Understone Quest Pack DLC to me. It is only $1.24 during the flash sale, but the sale end less than 2 hours from now.
