There is also weapon collision with the environment - i.e. rifle will bump wall/window jamb... hopefully this will mean weapons won't be sticking out from solid surfaces.

There is also semi-auto cover, so you can hide behind objects, look over them, or look around corners easier.

I'm going to pre-order this one soon.

My MLB The Show 11 was cancelled (like everyone else)... I then received a 40% coupon for 2-day use (no game available though)... The next day I was given a code to reorder - since they were able to get additional titles.

I have my order in, HOWEVER, I am undecided whether I'm going to:

a.) sell MLB The Show 11 (new)
b.) keep MLB The Show 11 and sell my MLB The Show 10 (used - like new condition)
c.) try to return it to (Walmart?) new and get Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters instead - (anyone know if this is possible?)

4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters on: March 10, 2011, 01:19:52 AM

I tried the PS3 demo of TW PGA Tour 12: The Masters.  The 3-click option was pretty quick on the level of difficulty I tried.  The "Move" controller worked well and would be my choice for this game.  The graphics, number of courses, and move support may convince me to buy it.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for $3 ?   Was this a really bad game?

Patrician IV for $7.50.  I do loves me some trading sims.  Is this one worth it?

I liked OF: Dragon Rising... Even the mission editor is worth the $3 to practice/set up different scenarios.  It's easy to use, test, and make adjustments to.

We have 3 of these same routers in our family and have brought each "back to life" with the Tomato firmware.  No problems since.  We all get heavy duty use.
12  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC on: February 19, 2010, 06:57:07 PM

After getting 2 confirmation emails and a "thank you for your business" $5 appreciation coupon the "no longer available" notice went out to the buyers - 10 days later.  There is a lot of negative feedback on the B&N site - and upset customers... feeling we've been duped.  Too bad they didn't acknowledge the "mistake" right away - if that's what it was... otherwise it seems a bit of a scam to get new customer information.

Meanwhile... any deals on BFBC2 for PC?  I may end up using my Amazon $20 coupon from MW2 to apply to this one.  They have it currently listed for $44.99 (free shipping).

I dl'd the demo and then picked CPD up after giving it a try.  Very unique game - should have replay value once you learn the many options that are introduced as you go through the levels.  With the registration code provided, you can register online and download user created levels.  Of course, you can also make some of your own.

Thanks SlackerJoe for the alert.  Great deal!

I might have a free/special offer one I downloaded a while back - it was a special offer that includes some advertisement before actual play.  I'll check it out if you're interested.  I'm not sure of any copying restrictions it might have on it.

17  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Keeping an old computer running on: November 30, 2009, 11:49:18 PM

Well, the new video card and sound card work fine...  however, it turns out that the LCD monitor I bought last December ('08) is defective... and is the cause of the screen distortion/flickering.  I'm trying to get an RMA on this Acer X223W from NEgg.  There is a 3 yr. P/L limited warranty.

18  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Keeping an old computer running on: November 22, 2009, 02:13:38 PM

Thanks for your input... you're right, with the original specs, it's not worth much today.  However, each year I've added a little to it.  I have 2 GB RAM, added a larger hard drive, upgraded the power supply, and added the larger monitor, new keyboard, and mouse.

My wife doesn't like to have anything "changed" on her computer and gets nervous whenever I upgrade or do maintenance.  So keeping her "happy" is a factor.  I've offered to get her a new machine several times.  She uses it for Internet and MS Office (Word/Publisher) primarily.

Anyway, I just made the "final" upgrade with a PCI video card ($45) and sound card ($10) - hopefully that will do the trick (for now).
19  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Keeping an old computer running on: November 18, 2009, 06:38:08 PM

A few years ago, during a Black Friday sale at Best Buy, I picked up a T2040 EMachine for my wife... it was cheap and worked.  Over time, I've updated the OS, memory (now 2 GB) and power supply.  We're still running XP SP3.

Thinking she would enjoy a large 22" LCD, I got her one this past year.  The problem is that with integrated graphics and sound; it looks and sounds worse than ever these days - even after updating all drivers (screen flickers, static etc.).

I am looking for recommendations for a compatible video card (priority one) and sound card (priority two).  I'd also be happy to help clean out your parts drawer if you have a working item you've replaced.  I would be happy to pay for shipping and your trouble.

Here are the specs from the EMachines:

CPU :  Intel® Celeron® Processor 2GHz (w/128KB L2 cache & 400MHz FSB)
Operating System :  Genuine Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Chipset :  Intel® 845GL chipset

Hard Drive :  40GB HDD
Optical Drive :  40 × 12x40 Max. CD-RW Drive; 3.5" 1.44MB FDD
Video :  Intel® Extreme Graphics 3D (845GL shared)
Sound :  AC '97 Audio
Network :  10/100Mbps built-in Ethernet
Modem :  56K ITU v.92-ready Fax/Modem
Peripherals :  Keyboard, Wheel Mouse, Stereo Speakers
Ports/Other :  6 USB 2.0 ports (2 on front), 1 Serial, 1 Parallel, 2 PS/2, Mic-In & Head Phone jack on front, Audio-In & Out, 3 PCI slots (2 available)
Dimensions :  7.25"W x 14.125"H x 16"D

Thanks for your input TAK.  I should have mentioned that I was using (successfully) a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GL router and a USB wireless adapter.  It was my third router to die - this one lasted less than a year of constant use.

23  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / LF: Alternative to wireless router on: November 14, 2009, 02:39:01 PM
I just "lost" my wireless router (again)... I can't connect directly or wirelessly through the router.  I have cable internet (and HDTV).

I'm looking for an alternative and would like your expertise.  I know nothing about this but have started to "google" to find out what options I might have.

My computer is in the downstairs (cellar - front right of house), our other computer is on the second floor (2 flights up - back left of house).  We have a suspended ceiling in the cellar.  There is a cable TV outlet in the upstairs location that (should) run to a splitter in the cellar - and is accessible.  This is not used so it does provide a link.  We have vinyl siding.

Can the cable wire be utilized?  I've even seen home wiring options.  Can you run ethernet cable that far?

Thanks for any help or ideas.  It will be worth not hearing "I'm not connected... again".   disgust

26  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: HD tv & blu ray advice please! on: November 09, 2009, 01:47:06 AM
I got the Panasonic 50" Viera 1080p HDTV (TC-P50S1) online a few weeks ago from Sears.  Normally close to $1400, I got it for $899 during a limited-time special.  I also picked up the Panasonic Blu-ray (DMP-BD60) for about $130 with free shipping on Amazon, and an HDMI cable (another $10) - works great with my DVD's too.  Watch out for the sales coming up and you can save a good chunk of change.

We did our own in-store pickup and installation (wall mount) - another $99 for the tilt bracket.  The bracket is rated for the weight of the TV to be hung - just be sure it is secure to the wall.

This is our first HD TV and we're very pleased with the result.

Good luck to you and family.
27  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Help, my computer stopped working and I can't power up! on: July 30, 2009, 12:40:38 AM

Up and running!

UPS arrived this evening with a "surprise" delivery - a brand new replacement (full package - wrapped) for the 620.  Corsair had not alerted me of the shipment.

When my son checked my handiwork, he found that I had not supplied power to the CPU  eek - even though its cooling fan was running (from the motherboard).  He ended up pulling the 750 (for a few reasons) and put in the new 620.

Fortunately my fears of further damage to other components seem unnecessary (on initial test)... However, he did say that my case fan seemed sluggish and recommended a replacement.

Thanks again for all the detailed information and assistance.

28  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Help, my computer stopped working and I can't power up! on: July 29, 2009, 04:28:56 PM

Newegg had a sale this week on the Corsair 750 powersupply for $109 w/a $20 rebate.  Knowing my 620 was delayed, I ordered the 750 on Monday, received the new PS on Tuesday - nice...

Now, my machine has power, fans are running etc. but it doesn't even try to boot - no video showing at all, no sound of startup (beeps, drives).

I tried removing RAM and video card to isolate what might be a problem... no change.

My son's coming this evening to check it out; hopefully I plugged something in incorrectly - but can't say for now.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and find out what's causing the problem now???

Thanks for your input.

29  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Help, my computer stopped working and I can't power up! on: July 21, 2009, 12:27:23 AM

Removing video had no effect... eliminating that from the list of possibles.

Removed power supply and tested it with a power supply tester.  This confirmed a dead component.

Checked in with the USPS and the package is on its way across country to California.  It should arrive in a couple days.

Haven't done any gaming for over 2 days... so far I've been busy, but need a fix soon!  paranoid
30  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Re: Help, my computer stopped working and I can't power up! on: July 19, 2009, 01:39:49 PM

3 mushkin 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model 991527
1 CORSAIR CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Compatible

1 EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Thanks for your responses... I did try to go directly in a wall socket and even swapped cords.  I did not see anything that appeared blown on the motherboard (thanks for the picture).  I am borrowing a power supply tester this week.  The inside of the machine is clean but I'll take another look at the CPU.
31  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Help, my computer stopped working and I can't power up! on: July 18, 2009, 05:52:06 PM

In the middle of an on-line game, my computer (1 year old) suddenly stopped... instantly - no power.  There was no warning of a problem and it's worked fine since I built it w/my son.

I tried different plugs and outlets and have seen or heard no signs of life.  Would it be safe to say it's the power supply (Corsair 620 modular) or are there other possibilities.  A few weeks ago I added an Hitachi 1TB drive - the only recent change.

I've emailed Corsair and will probably hear from them next week...

A good part of my day is on the computer and I'm going just a little crazy having to use my wife's "rig" for my online source (and it's only been a day)!
32  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Kayaking? on: June 24, 2009, 04:45:57 PM
Types of Kayaks (my understanding - feel free to correct)

Touring - Long with rudders (plan to go longer distance without much turning)

Light Touring - Longer but not as long as Touring, no rudder (tracks pretty well, but not as well as touring - keeps in straight line)... general purpose kayak (I use mine on a large lake, usually about 2 hours at a time - 1 hour each way).

River, White Water - shorter, no rudder, very maneuverable, usually have a skirt to seal you in and keep water out.

Sea - Made for the ocean, similar to touring.

For more information (also surf kayaks and other types - single/tandem):

The following is an ad from a dealer on EBay for Empire Total War: Special Forces Edition.  I've bought from him and he has a positive rating w/high volume.  He often has some very unusual items, including "large lots" of games (buy 50 copies of the same title etc.).  This particular ad is interesting but I was wondering what you could really do with this product, if bought...  Any thoughts?  I can give you a link if you are interested in viewing his many items.

WHAT IS INCLUDED:  (for $3.49 + $4.00 shipping)  This is a "buy it now" price and there are multiple copies available.

This was posted recently...

Hey all,
To confirm what many of you have suspected by my other postings, we are going to have a second update be released in the coming weeks and a first one on PC that will encompass the day one update that was released on the consoles. There is no set date (we will make every effort to get it up pre-Opening day but let me confirm that when I can) but I hope to have a better idea of when that will be late next week. The patch will address many issues, but most notably the AI batting aggression and the ease of home runs in online mode and certain difficulties. Those are the only ones I can confirm at this time. Thanks to those who posted in the Patch Fix List, I will be closing that list now. Please let me know if you have questions about the patch and I will do my best to answer them.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

For me, I'm playing MLB 2K9 (PC) at least a game a day and enjoying it.  I hope the upcoming patch will address some of the nagging issues - ex. ability for user to pick-off AI on base.  Right now, I'm 8-8 with my franchise - after starting 0-4.
