2121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Bayonetta Vs. Darksiders: Which game to kick off your new year? on: January 05, 2010, 06:26:14 PM
Just bought both for the 360.  Playing Bayonetta first until the patch for Darksiders comes out (adding v-sync).

Edit: I have installed the Darksiders disc and only have an hour of playtime, no tearing issues yet.  Maybe later on in the game when things get more crazy

Harkonis is pretty much good at any game he plays, whether it's an MMO, fighter or shooter.  Anyways I'm glad the game has been updated, since I had stopped playing because of the ridicous glitches.

Why didn't anyone tell me the SPAS-12 shotgun was so good?  Pump action, sure, but it's a one shot kill even at a fair distance.

And it can be silenced!

Still a one shot kill silenced?

It's hard to tell but I think he's joking again. I don't think you can silence shotguns. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yes shotguns can be silenced

I'm sure they'll have a patch in the next 30 days to address the actual glitches and bugs...but IW doesn't have a history of rebalancing anything after a games release as far as I can tell...

....you're right and I don't think IW will ever issue a rebalance patch.  People like Hark and Mikagami use those lightweight kits sometimes to great effect, and the only thing you can do is adapt.  I don't believe at all that those kits are cheap or unbalanced.  IMHO dual-shotting/commando knife kit/or any other similar kit can be countered.  Switch to a kit that has claymores, noob tubes, c4, or even equip a shotgun for your secondary when inside close quarters with short sight lines.  Recognize the maps that give an advantage to your playstyle, and adapt accordingly when outside your comfort zone.

For my playstyle, I'm more successful when i pick perks and weapons that make me harder to kill, rather than picking a kit that focuses on pure damage.

Depending on the map i usually have:

1. Silenced weapon with heartbeat tracker
2. Bling perk
3. Cold blooded perk
4. Ninja perk

What is your playstyle?  I've played many matches with you and I can't tell what yours is.  icon_lol

However, based on your perks, I guess I'm the exact opposite as I prefer to mete out the most possible damage.  I'm concentrated aggression with some basic tactical go tos (flanking, moving from cover to cover, and the occaisional choke point defense).  I don't have the patience to sit in one spot.

In almost all cases I have:

1. Scavenger
2. Stopping Power
3. Steady Aim

My style is "Asian One-Eyed Pirate" style \ /

But really, I rarely stay still. I prefer to hunt by flanking, or chasing after Airdrops.  I attack the other team head-on in maps like Scrapyard and Terminal.

It seems it would be rather easy to mega-ban these people right now.

I've heard reports that some people in various US armed forces just got access to legitimate copies, but I only have "my brother in Camp Victory said" stories to support it.

I can confirm that in Iraq, soldiers and marines stationed in FOB Delta have the game.

That's a fine move Activision/Infinity Ward! Way to treat the troops right.   thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

Question: IIRC, Kato you weren't allowed to play COD4 or any FPS (?) while deployed.  How would this work now? Did they change the rules or am I misremembering?

You are correct, the last time I was deployed on a Marine Base in Iraq, it was banned due to PTSD related issues....which I totally didn't agree with, but oh well.  However, on an ARMY FOB, they get to play anything they want  icon_biggrin

Here isi what I learned so far, the game almost forces you to use the Holy Trinity..almost.  You can get away with Heal putice for awhile, but you will need a healer, tank and DPS.  I've completed both of the bonus content -Warden's Keep & Stone Golem and both I breezed through using the Trinity

oh Alistair > Sten

I agree 100%.  I'm playing on hard and currently the party is around lvl 10, and its hard to win battles without the Trinity.  I'm pretty sure things will get more intersting once I get my party into higher levels to their specialist classes, but until then its the Trinity.

I agree on Alistair > Sten.  However I keep him happy with gifts and small talk, so hopefully down the line he can teach us a specialist class like Beserker or something.

If you are worried about choppiness then you should be fine with the 360 version- most reviews indicate it plays very smoothly.  It seems it's the PS3 version that is choppy.

Okay I have the PC and xbox versions.  Only around 2 hours in (so take this with a grain of salt) and the for the most part the 360 version plays pretty smoothly.

Comparisons (at least for me) are just like the differences between the PC and 360 version of Fallout 3, and Mass Effect.

Also I installed Dragon Age to the hard drive, not sure if that is any indication of performance....no slow texture loading yet Razgon  icon_smile

Party chat is disabled in MW2 MP games.  I know we used this exclusively in W@W, so this is a bummer.

Wow, that's really interesting. I didn't know that was possible, but it does make a lot of sense for fairness. Hopefully it will not make getting games together a pain. I guess we did it in CoD4 for a long time.

I think what'll happen is that we'll all be partied, and then when the game starts, you press Y or something to go into game chat, so we can hear the ass hats from the other team.  If we have to rama-lama then it drops the previously partied people back to party chat.  I figure it'll be quite some time before we have to worry about having less than a full team together to really need to have open chat, unless it's an odd hour of the night.
I set my prefrences to hear friends only anyway so this is not that much of a big deal.  Its not that trash talking that bothers me, I just need to be able to communicate and cordinate with my team effectively.

I downloaded the game, but I'm apparently just not that good at it. I've won the first few campaign missions, but I'm stuck on the 3rd or 4th one (whichever mission has the swamps on the left that they send the airborne troops through, and your troops go up the right side with two villages in the middle of the map near the german home row).

Any advice, either for this mission or the game in general?

I'm stuck at that mission too  icon_frown I know that the game grades you on how fast you can complete a mission, but on this one I think I have to take my time
