I dunno, seems like a lesser number of players with a balanced loadout and using teamwork could take out more than their number of wheeled shotgunners, but those grenades seem like the cincher.  I didn't realize grenades caused an AOE disorient effect.  At the very least you can knock out all the enemy bases so that their teammates couldn't simply mop them up.

A good commander really helps too. Tongue  I could usually identify the base being used by looking at movement speed and patterns.

When I played comm I tended to be very specific in how I vectored my teammates, it was quite fun to hear how the game was unfolding.  Making sure to keep my teammates near cover so they could quickly retreat while reinforcements were vectored in around the sides.

One big problem with the Commander map system was that the maps didn't provide enough terrain information, especially height information.  It just displayed impassable areas, so I didn't know if my guys were fighting uphill or downhill.

I suspect I'll be buying Chromehounds 2 if they're smart enough to fix all of its problems and add more teamwork oriented parts.  I was hoping for things like NA contact relays, or NA extenders, or even a waypoint system that can be used in game to direct units.

They need to stop with the whole throwing aim off thing from explosives.  Direct hits from rockets don't throw your view around as much as little grenades going of near you, that just seems wrong.

Wheel bases are pretty weak as bases go, take them out early and that'll cut his movement.  However, if you have a chance to kill his generator first do that.  The combination of dead base and dead generator means he's just sitting there.

I like the way they implemented teamwork in the game, but I'd have really liked to see some more advanced technology.  Target trackers, laser designators, etc... but all implemented in ways to increase the amount of teamwork needed.

On the other hand, Dreamfall, a single player game by Funcom, was probably heavily impacted by piracy.  Beyond morality, there was no reason not to pirate the game since you just downloaded it, cracked the cd check, and played.  That's a problem with any big name games, and a bigger problem with primarily single player games.

However, it didn't help that beyond the story and dialogue, the "gameplay" segments really sucked.  Sneaking and fighting were afterthoughts, and let's not forget the disapointing ending.

There'd be a way to fit it in.

Adding another stick also opens up even more possibilities for using the PSP similar to a gameboy or DS on the gamecube, as a controller, or for a bit of extra info while playing, etc...  But, hopefully not required like Nintendo made it.

The multiplayer is only a bit better than GRAW1 to me.

I do like the Team Battle gametype, where you get AI soldiers and infinite respawns, add helicopters and it really feels like a big warzone.

I'm sure I won't buy this game, not until it hits $20 or so, but by then I'm sure there'll be other games to occupy me.  Right now, it's been a fun rental.

I really would have preferred them turning the movie into a series of one shots, like Indiana Jones.  Then, they can still have an overarching plot, but you still have the beginning, climax, and conclusion all in one movie.

My wants are:

Better analog control or just get rid of the thing.
Dual Analog sticks, although the system itself can't quite support that with the way you hold it, so not as big a deal.
Better construction to be more durable, don't let stylishness overcome practicality.  It's a mobile handheld, make it able to take bumps without resorting to buying some huge bulky case that defeats the purpose of the PSP being a mobile handheld.

Not really, the same people who pirate aren't that concerned with achievements.

I think piracy has an impact on game sales, but it often depends on the game.  the UT series probably isn't pirated as much since you need a CD key to play online, and it's primarily an online game.

I think the "piracy" scare for them is actually from corporate.

That's not to say piracy doesn't take a chunk out of their sales.

I wonder how single player games have fared on the PC since they're easier to pirate.  I imagine games like Dreamfall were seriously impacted by piracy.

Ragdoll kung fu looked weird.  This is just a simple, co-op physics-based side-scrolling platformer, but with the added benefit of user created levels, so replayability will be quite high.

Try shutting off your sound entirely by disabling the hardware?

The 15 minute limit is iether a cooling issue (unlikely) or a memory leak in some drivers somewhere.

Since Creative is known for somewhat poor drivers for their older cards, and the fact that they have to rewrite a chunk of their drivers to work with vista, it could mean they're the cuplrit.

Basically, it's a physics based platformer.  Get from point A to point B.  Characters can interact with objects in certain ways, holding on to things, etc...  It's also co-op based it seems, requiring more than one player to complete puzzles.

However the trick is that levels can be designed by users, quickly uploaded, then played, ranked, commented on, etc...

Since the game is based on physics, it leaves a lot open for users to devise interesting new puzzles based on the physics interactions.

Also, it looks like the basic characters are rag dolls which can be customized.

Yep, seriously, this is another small thing that makes me want a PS3.  Forgot that HOME stuff.  This little gem of a game is co-op heaven.

I just love all the little physics interactions and how the characters look while interacting.

From the looks of it, you can really customize your characters right?

That's especially cool is that everything is physics based, so like any toolset available to the public to play with, we'll see many puzzles and co-op solutions that even the developers never thought of.

Anyone notice how not only can you pickup other teammates, but you can also stand on each other's heads to heavy high places.

Snipers would have been a great counter to artillery, a way to force enemy arty hounds to stay out of sight and rely on teamwork.

Snipers should have been able to easily pick off those large and bulky heavy guns off enemy hounds, but they did so little damage that it was pointless.

By the time I quit playing I was encountering entire squads full of arty hounds and maybe one comm and one scout.  That's it.  They'd just march straight forward and kill everything.

Honestly, I don't see what not to like.  The features are there for people to use if they want to, and as Wii and 360 users have shown, people do like this kind of stuff.

I'm also not too keen on achievements or this stuff, but I still think it's neat.   I can easily use the simple UI when I want to.

Looks pretty cool.  I actually thought it was going to be more cartoony, but I suppose that doesn't fit in the Sony style.

I actually wouldn't mind loading up directly into that.  Say, starting up in your apartment, then if I wanted to play a game already in the drive just move to the PS3 console.

Word is that her contract for the series has run out and she didn't renew.  So, now she's pursuing other things, and it looks like she's doing pretty well overall.

I actually think the show can survive without her, as unlike the original series, this one has a lot of strong characters and other plots.

However, there was an interview where there are hints of Katie herself that she'll be back in Vancouver, she does have a movie contract for BSG, and she was given a corporate "line" to say.

She also mentioned she's getting peanuts in the BSG series contract, so this may have motivated her not to renew her contract.

She also mentions voice over work for a video game, but can't say which, I bet you it's Halo 3. Tongue

That depends entirely on the price.  CO-OP does take time to develop, so I don't mind a cost, especially for a game that wasn't designed for it.

I'm interested in what this new version of Dead Rising will include, if it eases some of the frustrating aspect of the game I might actually buy this version as I skipped the original.

The problem is, so many of those things were just arbitrary systems.  They appeal to role players who like stats and raising numbers, but to a majority of people they don't do much.  I think it's a real indicator that you had more fun building the character's stats than playing.  It should kind of be the other way around.  The stats got in the way of my enjoyment in the game, as in my initial play through I was playing in a more sneaky role, later on, I realized that I wanted to do some segments with a more shooty approach, but couldn't.

Character upgrades in Bioshock aren't handled by stat numbers, but by the plasmids you have available and how you choose to use them.  You also can upgrade your weapons, and I think there's another thing too.  The way I see it, all the customizeability is still there, getting rid of arbitrary stats that can't be changed hasn't dumbed down the game as there's new and different ways to customize your character. There are some plasmids that act like stat increases/augments this time around.  The speed plasmid is like you upgrading your agility to some very high number.  Those plasmid powers are more like being able to choose those psionic powers without being locked into the class.  They've said that some of the weapons there are too big for you to use normally, such as some of the Big Daddy weapons, and only the strength plasmid can let you use them.

Also, the idea of plasmids fits better into the world of Bioshock, instead of just some numbers that are just there, the feature really works with the idea of instant and fantastical biological upgrades in a world of biotechnology and ideology gone wrong.  So don't fear the loss of stats, embrace the change where instead of some arbitrary stat numbers deciding what a character is (And which can be confusing to some players), your plasmid collection, and weapon upgrades.

I think one of the biggest character features they have are the serious choices you make during the game that make your actions decide who your character is.  That video really shows one of those dreadful choices when after you kill a Big Daddy guarding a Little Sister, the Little Sister screams and backs away from you as you approach in an all too lifelike manner.  I'm not sure I could kill the girl to get more Adam, even if I really needed to get to the next area.  And that's just one of the "Random" encounters, it really opens up a lot of paths for the more scripted encounter with other named characters in Rapture.

Irrational has a good track record to me, which is why I'm less cautous about getting excited for this game than others.  Yes, I've bought into the hype.  But in a way I'm really not expecting anything other than System Shock 2, with upgraded graphics, and a new interesting story.

Not sure what you were looking for in the game, but SC was supposed to be the ultimate "build giant blobs of units and send them accross the map" kind of game.


From the demo, I agree unit selection is problematic.  They should really have gone with some sort of platoon/company control scheme.  Something like, wherever you have a group of similar units together, they have a control icon placed over them with details like strength and number of units.  You can then just use this icon to order the cluster around.

Where you have multiple unit types mixed together, the icons are bunched together, but you can still select them individually so you have more control over different unit types without resorting to the clunky "drag select mob, search through unit list for the one you want, double/shift/alt/whatever click to select all units of that type, issue specific order, repeat for next unit type".

Um, wow, what a completely pointless patch notes.  Might as well not have released the notes.

I wonder if they balanced out the heavy guns, they were too easily abused by players with the way they made it impossible for you to shoot back, and how players could load two dual heavy cannons on a biped and use them as close range weapons.

By the time you reoriented your view to shoot back at the enemy, he'd fire a second volley.  And with that huge blast radius, he never really had to reload.

Then there's that stupid 20 man squad limit.  They should have at least let squads band together into platoons or companies.

The list goes on.

I'll definitely be interested in Chromehounds 2, but for now I'll skip 1.
