Screw that, I'm buying a new copy to play on the 360.
7802  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: finally....no final fantasy for 360 on: June 06, 2007, 07:30:54 AM
So it seems that Sony finally paid Square enough to guarantee exclusivity.  It's pretty likely that a deal was made, Sony can justify the huge cost of such a deal because they know, without a doubt, that getting the first next gen final fantasy on their system will make it sell, just like FF7 and FF10 did.

Eh, so you have to wait a few years until the system drops in price.  We'll likely see a price drop before, or to coincide with the release of FF13 considering the game is at least a year and a half away.

I've been planning to get a PS3 for a while now simply because I want to play PS2 games that I've missed, and then have a future proof system on top of that.  It's pricey, but I am someone who can use a lot of the system's extra features beyond gaming.

Versus 13 is supposedly a multiplayer capable FF13 spinoff (or side story?) that's more action based and will probably have online multiplayer.  Hopefully Sony gets Home working and generally fixes up their online support and matchmaking.  And I really hope FF13 or Versus includes co-op, which from the interviews it seems it will.

Just be glad you get Gears and Mass Effect.  slywink  I'm actually looking forward to Mass Effect more simply because of the new NPC interactions, that's more next gen to me than the latest graphical effects.
7803  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: June 06, 2007, 01:03:32 AM
For me, the sweet spot is around $25 for me to buy this game.  I might have rented the game for a 4 player game night at my place, but the devs didn't bother to put in split screen, so they aren't getting my money.

Honestly, I've been playing Half-Life mods that have more content.

It's likely that by the time I buy the game for $25 or less, it'll have been abandoned by most players for other online games released.

It's all about the games.
7807  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mario Party 8 on: June 04, 2007, 05:27:40 AM
One of the main complaints reviewers give is that the game doesn't reward good players with the win, it's too random in how is decides a victor.  As above, The Grue trounced his son at the game.

However, with party games like this the point isn't to have a game where the most skilled wins all the time, it's supposed to be random and have lots of fun minigames.  So people have fun playing those minigames, and don't have to worry about some hardcore gamer beating them at everything.
7808  Non-Gaming / Steals and Deals / Re: It's Baaaack! (DeepDiscount 20% off sale) thru June 17th on: June 03, 2007, 08:39:34 PM
I picked up the Planet Earth full series DVD.  Figured it'd be a good investment for animal drawing and an interesting watch.

I'm probably going to buy the Avatar season 1 DVDs and Season 2 if it's out.
7809  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Steam guest passes for Counter Strike Source and Red Orchestra on: June 03, 2007, 04:47:56 AM
Yeah, I think the free pass are for those who are only interested in CS, but aren't sure about buying HL2 for it.

PM me with your email address so I can send you the pass.  Keep in mind that they recently handed out these passes, so the servers are filled with noobs, counter strike players, and all the griefers from CS that followed.

Actually, I've been thinking of permanently switching internet usernames for a while now.  I finally found a nice sounding original username, I wouldn't mind starting over from scratch.
7812  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Steam guest passes for Counter Strike Source and Red Orchestra on: June 02, 2007, 08:19:28 AM
I have one pass for CS:S, and two for Red Orchestra.

Each pass allows you to download and play for 10 days free.

Just wondering if anyone here from GT wanted to try these games.
7813  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Game Jackal is Back? on: June 02, 2007, 06:48:21 AM
Technically, I think it's still the original developers that are working on this, they just pass the results to SlySoft, who actually sells the software and passes back a portion to the devs.
7814  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [All] Skinning your consoles (and why you should do it). on: June 02, 2007, 06:43:08 AM
You can make your own clean room by steaming up your bathroom with hot water, then letting the steam settle.  The steam takes a lot of the dust out of the air as it does.

And to prevent body particles from falling off and messing up your system, you can also take a shower, which effectively steams up the room.
7815  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica ends next season on: June 02, 2007, 06:15:18 AM
Caprica was never a good idea to begin with.

I wonder if this means they can give The Dresden Files some more episodes now, especially since they haven't decided whether to renew the show, and they're all out of episodes to air.
7816  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: New handheld RPG shots on: June 02, 2007, 06:04:23 AM
It's $50 more than the DS already, for a system that's got twice, if not more, power.

You're not waiting for it to get cheaper, you're just waiting for the new games to release since the psp, finally, is getting a lot of new games.
7817  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: June 02, 2007, 05:42:04 AM

7819  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: June 02, 2007, 12:55:24 AM
It says there's split screen multiplayer, if so, how many players at once (2 or 4?) and what kind of games can be played?
7820  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: World in Conflict Preview (RTS) on: June 01, 2007, 07:34:22 AM
Looking forward to finally facing you in a game where you're insane economy doesn't crush me like a bug Mattc0m.  slywink

Also this should be the game where my pure tactical skills are best put to use.
7821  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Supreme Commander Impressions/Availability on: June 01, 2007, 07:31:18 AM
I've gotten involved in the mod community for SupCom, working with a small team right now on a 4th army called The Swarm, and insect-like army.  I'll be modeling and animating units for them.

While searching for art asset specifications for the SupCom engine, I found an interesting mod already released that alters the way resources are handled.

http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?t=7750&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Actually, it removes resourcing from the game entirely.  You don't collect mass or energy, instead your commander provides everything and slowly increases how much it provides over time.  They paced the rate of income increases to mimic how quickly a skilled SupCom player's resource rate would come rolling in.

It's a good idea I think since getting an economy running while still fighting is a huge hurdle for new players, especially when some extremely skilled players (*cough* mattc0m *cough*) can get insane economies up and running quickly.  And it focuses the player on the fighting.

They're also working on a new version of this mod with also makes territory control valuable in that each mass extractor you have built gives you more resources and makes your increase rate go faster.  This makes holding and taking land much more valuable, whereas currently once you get are well into tier 2 most players ignore the mass deposits.
7822  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: World in Conflict Preview (RTS) on: June 01, 2007, 02:03:56 AM
This may have been the RTS I was waiting for.  No base building, limited resourcing, some more objective based games.  Drop in multiplayer in an RTS game, co-op play.  Powerful abilities.  Different ability trees for different players so they have to work together.

From the videos even the pacing seems manageable, especially so since I'm not jumping between units and my base.
7823  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: WH is pro-mad cow on: May 31, 2007, 06:18:47 AM
It's the cattle rancher's lobby.  One batch of meat tests positive for mad cow and every cow on a ranch gets slaughtered.

What's scary is that mad cow isn't something you can cook away, so far it looks like it's a prion, a kind of rogue protien.

And there are already documented cases of such rogue protiens eating away human brains, perhaps not the same ones, but it still happens.  They cracked open the woman's skull it it looked like swiss cheese.  What's even worse was that it didn't kill her, it just slowly took away brain functions until she finally couldn't do anything.
7824  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: May 31, 2007, 04:22:02 AM
So either way, the game isn't worth $60 or even $50.
7825  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Company of Heroes multiplayer? on: May 30, 2007, 07:02:16 PM
I was thinking of getting back into this game, playing some small skirmishes against each other or against the AI.  The latest patches have changed a lot of things from what I hear, so it could be worth a try now.

If anyone who is new the the game or just new to its multiplayer, some of us regulars can offer to train you in how to play.
7826  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] KIllzone Liberation online play patch and new missions released! on: May 30, 2007, 06:53:09 PM
In one match on docks, the enemy team had secured the walkway leading up to the rockets.  They would blast anyone approaching.  I picked up a sniper rifle and took up a high position opposite them in a blasted out building and picked them off from the walkway, dodging rockets as my team took advantage of my sniping to charge in.

Then later, once we had the rocket position under control, I took my rifle and grabbed a remote mine, setting it down on the walkway, the only approach to the rocket supply box.  The whole enemy team overran my team and all came charging down the walkway in a pack.  I detonated the mine right in the middle of them and killed them all.

I was cracking up so much that I didn't notice the grenade land next to me.

7828  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] KIllzone Liberation online play patch and new missions released! on: May 30, 2007, 06:16:27 PM
I'm Vertrucio online, add me to your friends list.

Also, holy crap this is fun.  It's stable, no lag so far, and it's just very very fun.

There's two problems I see right now, one is that the standard assault rifles are kind of crap.  But that was the case in the single player too.  I hope they boost the effectiveness of the regular rifles because they're way too innaccurate and weak as it stands.

The second is that if you're connected to a server, the match ends and a new match begins, there's a bug that'll boot everyone from a game because it thinks that new match is already over.
7829  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [PSP] KIllzone Liberation online play patch and new missions released! on: May 30, 2007, 05:37:07 PM
Heya, since some here also have PSPs, just wanted to let you guys know that they finally released the patch that adds online play, not to mention 4 new missions.

Just use the download menu in game to grab it.
7830  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: May 30, 2007, 04:10:56 AM
Here's the way I see it.  What features in this game are so unique that really couldn't be done in an FPS mod?  And even it if could be done in a mod, does the game have enough professional polish that could override that?

From what I've seen no.

Not to belittle the many hours those poor developers put into this game, but it's clear that the management simply didn't want to put in as much effort into the game.  Sadly, it's likely the game will do poorly, which in the marketing and management mindset kills any chance of a larger, more in depth single player Shadowrun game coming out any time soon.
7831  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: KOTOR II Fans - Check This Out on: May 30, 2007, 03:23:09 AM
I really suspect that someone at Obsidian secretly leaked some dev tools, specs, and maybe some media files to the restoration team.
7832  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: May 30, 2007, 03:19:39 AM
Actually, one reason why demos are released after the game is released is that they're afraid it'll drive away buyers that would have bought the game thinking it was a good game for the name alone.
7833  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Shadowrun Impressions on: May 30, 2007, 01:25:34 AM
There's no reviews at all probably because they didn't send out review copies to anyone.  They tend to do this for games that they know will suck out of the box and want to get the suckers who buy without waiting before the rest of the community avoids it for good.

I'm not an RPG snob, and I think an FPS in the universe is fine.  But frankly I think they licensed it, didn't want to put in enough money for an RPG or even a deep single player FPS hybrid and just had the company working on the title crap out an multiplayer only FPS.
7834  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: South Park Niggers??? on: May 29, 2007, 04:57:07 AM
Also, the south park guys tend to go with the: if the censors don't approve the first reel, send another one that's even worse than the first until they're so shocked they let it go style of bypassing censors.

Besides, the censors let the word niggers through this time because he's not calling anyone by that name, the character knows it's a hateful word.  And to be frank, black rappers are saying the word all the time about their own people all the time.

7836  Non-Gaming / Forum and Site Feedback / Sunday skin posts turning away the female demographic? on: May 28, 2007, 08:37:56 AM
Now before you ask for my man card, I like the sunday skin posts.

However, I wonder if all those extra Sunday Skin posts might turn away some female gamers that might have otherwise stuck around in the forums.  Might we try and restrict it to just one post?  If anything, seeing three skin posts at the top of the forum might give any visitor, not just female, the wrong idea about this place.
7837  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: How Big of a Star Wars Fan Are You? on: May 27, 2007, 08:42:58 PM
I love the artwork of star wars.  Even the prequel artwork, but that's probably because Lucas only approved the artwork, not created.  slywink

In fact I think the best thing the Star Wars series has given the entertainment world is the striking visuals.

Otherwise, Star Wars is just another scifi series.
7838  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: SupCom Carnage on Saturday on: May 27, 2007, 08:53:01 AM
Had fun in my first game.  But with three of us vs. 4 AIs, Mattcom just stomped all over the AIs, all we did was supply navy support.

So I'm thinking we should try a few more comp stomps, but this time with some player made AIs which look to be a lot more challenging.  Or maybe everyone vs. mattcom.  Tongue

Make sure your firewall is letting SC connect to the internet.  Often times the "This application is attempting to access the internet" dialogue that many 3rd party firewalls have will pop up behind the game.

And if that's not the case, check your windows firewall and add the supreme commander exe to the exceptions list.
