On the PC version, they try to balance out the PC's accuracy by a few methods.  I don't recall all of them that the developer listed in an interview, but one of them was that when a PC user turns his view quickly (you know, like the CS style instant 180 degree turn and shot in the head) they get a substantial accuracy penalty as their cone of fire widens then slowly returns to normal.

They've had a slight balance problem in the first version where certain armies use more energy than others.  So they're rebalancing that.

Oh, there's no energy building either, the only thing energy is used for are unit abilities and things that need it to shoot (Artillery).  The energy costs of building units are folded into mass, making things focused on one resource type.

Also just released was a space version of the game, it's pretty cool looking especially with the scale differences.  You build things out of a home asteroid, the ships come out.  You can build fighters and such which are tiny.  In fights there's all this weapon fire going around as fighters zip around ships and ships firew beam weapons at each other.

So all that really means is that unless it sells poorly on the PS3, it won't be coming to the 360.  But FF13 would likely do a lot to sell the system and make its own sales.  If there is ever a Final Fantasy on the 360, don't expect to see it for quite some time.

It's a hardware refresh, not a new handheld.  They'd fracture their user base if they added any features like that, not to mention the price would go up significantly.  That said, they probably wanted to add a lot of things like a second analog and touch screen, but knew it wasn't possible unless they made a PSP2, not psp slim.  I think what they're hoping is that with a hardware refresh, and a bunch of high profile exclusive games coming out for the system (God of War, FF7 CC, Crush, etc...), the PSP will get popular enough for them to consider a PSP2, completely new hardware.  Since the new system would probably be back to the $200 price point, they'd need the popularity of the old PSP, backward compatability, and a established user and developer base to make it succeed.

Although honestly if you want to run homebrew a GP32x is a good option.  Or you could buy an original PSP since a lot of people will sell their old old ones to get this, mod chip it, and run anything you want.  Er, that's actually what I plan to do with my old one once the new PSP is released.

The main thing I hope is that they make it easier to hold.  The grip used on a PSP is a bit cumbersome, and the way the speakers push sound out the bottom instead of the front is annoying.

Definitely looking forward to this new version.  There's a lot of good games coming out for the system

The article could drop the snarky and slightly whining tone, but it does bring up some good points.  If MS wanted to do something to underhandedly hurt PC gaming, this could be it.  Likewise, if they really wanted to keep PC gaming around, they could stand to actually put more effort into it.  Because admittedly, other OSes have started gaining a lot of ground, and gaming has traditionally been window's strong point.  Linux made a decent move on business PCs last year, Apple is poised to make a big push on the Windows market by switching to Intel chips, meaning software that was once only windows because it was too much a hassle to port to the powerPC chip could go to macs.

For example, one of the big reasons why we don't see direct Mac version is a lot of high profile games is that the middleware they use, such as physics and sound engines are written for PC chips.  Once macs start using the same chips as PCs, it opens up the gaming market a lot.

So it seems that Sony finally paid Square enough to guarantee exclusivity.  It's pretty likely that a deal was made, Sony can justify the huge cost of such a deal because they know, without a doubt, that getting the first next gen final fantasy on their system will make it sell, just like FF7 and FF10 did.

Eh, so you have to wait a few years until the system drops in price.  We'll likely see a price drop before, or to coincide with the release of FF13 considering the game is at least a year and a half away.

I've been planning to get a PS3 for a while now simply because I want to play PS2 games that I've missed, and then have a future proof system on top of that.  It's pricey, but I am someone who can use a lot of the system's extra features beyond gaming.

Versus 13 is supposedly a multiplayer capable FF13 spinoff (or side story?) that's more action based and will probably have online multiplayer.  Hopefully Sony gets Home working and generally fixes up their online support and matchmaking.  And I really hope FF13 or Versus includes co-op, which from the interviews it seems it will.

Just be glad you get Gears and Mass Effect.  slywink  I'm actually looking forward to Mass Effect more simply because of the new NPC interactions, that's more next gen to me than the latest graphical effects.

For me, the sweet spot is around $25 for me to buy this game.  I might have rented the game for a 4 player game night at my place, but the devs didn't bother to put in split screen, so they aren't getting my money.

Honestly, I've been playing Half-Life mods that have more content.

It's likely that by the time I buy the game for $25 or less, it'll have been abandoned by most players for other online games released.

One of the main complaints reviewers give is that the game doesn't reward good players with the win, it's too random in how is decides a victor.  As above, The Grue trounced his son at the game.

However, with party games like this the point isn't to have a game where the most skilled wins all the time, it's supposed to be random and have lots of fun minigames.  So people have fun playing those minigames, and don't have to worry about some hardcore gamer beating them at everything.

You can make your own clean room by steaming up your bathroom with hot water, then letting the steam settle.  The steam takes a lot of the dust out of the air as it does.

And to prevent body particles from falling off and messing up your system, you can also take a shower, which effectively steams up the room.

I've gotten involved in the mod community for SupCom, working with a small team right now on a 4th army called The Swarm, and insect-like army.  I'll be modeling and animating units for them.

While searching for art asset specifications for the SupCom engine, I found an interesting mod already released that alters the way resources are handled.

Actually, it removes resourcing from the game entirely.  You don't collect mass or energy, instead your commander provides everything and slowly increases how much it provides over time.  They paced the rate of income increases to mimic how quickly a skilled SupCom player's resource rate would come rolling in.

It's a good idea I think since getting an economy running while still fighting is a huge hurdle for new players, especially when some extremely skilled players (*cough* mattc0m *cough*) can get insane economies up and running quickly.  And it focuses the player on the fighting.

They're also working on a new version of this mod with also makes territory control valuable in that each mass extractor you have built gives you more resources and makes your increase rate go faster.  This makes holding and taking land much more valuable, whereas currently once you get are well into tier 2 most players ignore the mass deposits.

This may have been the RTS I was waiting for.  No base building, limited resourcing, some more objective based games.  Drop in multiplayer in an RTS game, co-op play.  Powerful abilities.  Different ability trees for different players so they have to work together.

From the videos even the pacing seems manageable, especially so since I'm not jumping between units and my base.

It's the cattle rancher's lobby.  One batch of meat tests positive for mad cow and every cow on a ranch gets slaughtered.

What's scary is that mad cow isn't something you can cook away, so far it looks like it's a prion, a kind of rogue protien.

And there are already documented cases of such rogue protiens eating away human brains, perhaps not the same ones, but it still happens.  They cracked open the woman's skull it it looked like swiss cheese.  What's even worse was that it didn't kill her, it just slowly took away brain functions until she finally couldn't do anything.

I was thinking of getting back into this game, playing some small skirmishes against each other or against the AI.  The latest patches have changed a lot of things from what I hear, so it could be worth a try now.

In one match on docks, the enemy team had secured the walkway leading up to the rockets.  They would blast anyone approaching.  I picked up a sniper rifle and took up a high position opposite them in a blasted out building and picked them off from the walkway, dodging rockets as my team took advantage of my sniping to charge in.

Then later, once we had the rocket position under control, I took my rifle and grabbed a remote mine, setting it down on the walkway, the only approach to the rocket supply box.  The whole enemy team overran my team and all came charging down the walkway in a pack.  I detonated the mine right in the middle of them and killed them all.

I was cracking up so much that I didn't notice the grenade land next to me.

Also, holy crap this is fun.  It's stable, no lag so far, and it's just very very fun.

There's two problems I see right now, one is that the standard assault rifles are kind of crap.  But that was the case in the single player too.  I hope they boost the effectiveness of the regular rifles because they're way too innaccurate and weak as it stands.

The second is that if you're connected to a server, the match ends and a new match begins, there's a bug that'll boot everyone from a game because it thinks that new match is already over.

Here's the way I see it.  What features in this game are so unique that really couldn't be done in an FPS mod?  And even it if could be done in a mod, does the game have enough professional polish that could override that?

From what I've seen no.

Not to belittle the many hours those poor developers put into this game, but it's clear that the management simply didn't want to put in as much effort into the game.  Sadly, it's likely the game will do poorly, which in the marketing and management mindset kills any chance of a larger, more in depth single player Shadowrun game coming out any time soon.
