Also, is anybody else having troubles with hot-keyed favorites losing their key assignment? I have a sword assigned to 1 and a bow to 2, but after I switch a couple times they no longer work and I have to open up the Q menu and assign the keys again. Which defeats the purpose of just having hotkeys in the first place.
Yes. The game keeps forgetting what I've set my bow to. When attacking, I usually start out with my bow, switch to sword/shield, then usually will bring out some spells at some point in the fight or afterwards. By this time, it has lost my number for my bow. I'm finding it very annoying. EDIT: I may have solved this! I just read a post in the Steam forums where someone said this may be caused when you have multiple copies of the same item- like 3 bows. Switching away from "a stack" of items can lose the hotkey setting. I just tried this in game, and after dropping my extra bows, I was able to switch back and forth from all my desired weapons/spells with no problems! Nice. But this may be a problem if I ever get multiplies of something expensive that I want to use and sell extras to a shop.

Have you considered looking at your socks instead? Where I currently work requires me standing for nearly 10 hours a day in steel toe boots. So, not much choice in shoe comfortably, but what helped me was buying some great athletic socks from a sporting goods store. Look for arch support and non-slip material.

One nice thing about Steam is that after any game downloads to your hard drive it "just works" after a brief first time set-up. Other download services I've used have you downloading the whole game, then running the installer and going through that whole thing like you're installing from disc.
Then when Steam patches, they only replace the files that are changed and most of the time it's quick and painless.
The problem with the Witcher 2 is they decided to put the whole game into one huge 9gb compressed file. Thus when it's patched that whole file is what is "changed". even if only a few minimal things inside it have changed, and it all has to download again. This huge file also caused problems with the dual layer DVDs it was pressed on and caused the game to be uninstallable through many people's DVD drives (including mine. they finally had to give me a GOG.com code for the game.) Very poor planning on their part to not take into account how that large file would affect both Steam users and people who bought the physical item.
Of course, your situation goes beyond that and is most probably a problem on your end.

I enjoy Jizz in my pants as well.
Doesn't one say Morton'd at this point? usually at OO That's only if you "fix" a quote by changing it to read something different that person may or may not have intended. This is a direct quote, in which case, I believe the proper internet response is "Quoting for future use".

Funny. I just started rewatching these on DVD. Finished up series one this weekend. Then started two by watching Christmas Invasion last night, and New Earth tonight.
In rewatching, I found some of series one to be hit and miss, but The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances is fantastic. I'm enjoying seeing Tennant again and I'm looking forward to revisiting some great stuff coming up.

Are you using the targeting system or just using the mouse to aim?
IIRC, There's several small doll faces that you need to hit. If you use the game's targeting system, it'll lock on to each of those targets. If you're manually aiming, they may be harder to hit. Once those are all gone, a large doll face shooting flames will appear. Shoot that when it's out and it'll finally be dead.
I can't remember if those have porcelain arms that shield the faces. If so, you may need to reflect one of their attacks back at them using the umbrella to get rid of those. And remember the umbrella only works if you've targeted an enemy.

Hey, it's Beverly from the Larry Sanders show. She was great on that show, especially in that one episode where she didn't get killed.

I don't know about a preferred order, but once I got the hobby horse, I used that almost exclusively over the knife, and upgrading the pepper grinder not only helped in combat, but also faster to trigger those red 'clock' switches which was useful in some timed puzzles. Those were the two I upgraded first. The teapot felt pretty powerful, so I didn't mind it being upgraded later. I saved the knife for last, though when fully upgraded it looked pretty cool in use.

This was the very first game I ever pre-ordered. I remember ordering it directly from Id and getting so excited when it arrived in the mail. The coolest thing about it was that not only did the CD contain the game, but you could also stick it in your CD player and it doubled as the soundtrack.

The checkpoint system continues to annoy me. It seems that sometimes, if you reach a checkpoint, then exit the game and come back later, you're not always brought back to where you left but somewhere earlier. Also, I had one long room where dying by falling & hazards brought me back to a nice, nearby checkpoint, but when I later died in combat in that room, it started me at a point before I ever entered that room. WTF? I see no rhyme or reason for these quirks.
Also, I finished chapter 1 and found out (from the "Chapter Select" option on the main menu) that I missed 3 pig snouts, 2 memories and 2 bottles. Boy, I sure wish I had some previous save games that I could go back to and look for those few missing items...
Apart from that, I'm really enjoying this game.

The game just introduced "Hysteria Mode" to me. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a way to remap the key for this command, which is weird because every other command appears to be customizable.
The default key for this, "Enter", sucks because it means I need to either take my left hand off of WASD, or my other hand off the mouse to press it.

I'm enjoying it so far despite its lack of polish and some apparent concessions made for the console users. There's no option to adjust the mouse sensitivity. Combat is a little cumbersome and seems designed for console users who can't aim, rather than PC users with a mouse/keyboard and can aim. Also it uses the checkpoint save system, and it has been annoying since there are lots of secrets to find, and no way to revert to an earlier save if you felt you missed something in a previous area.
But, I love the dark take on Wonderland, so I'm forgiving a lot of these gripes and having fun with it.

Yay! He justifiably skewered it. Although, I can't help but think he wasn't harsh enough. Why the hell did I pre-order this game? My biggest gaming regret in quite a while.
