81  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is coming to a DS near you! on: June 09, 2008, 06:13:52 PM
Made it last night to floor 30?  It was the first rainbow floor.  I was killed by a giant tainted insect mob, that thing must have massive HPs.  Any tips on killing it?  My character was sealed, so I couldn't use any magic!  Sucks!  How many floors does the rainbow dungeon have?  How close was I to the end?  That run was amazing.  All but 4 of inventory spots were filled with holding Jars [5] that I had filled with items.  I survived 3 monster houses on my way to the rainbow dungeon.

I'm going to stockpile blastwave scrolls, knockback staves, 99 wood arrows, and sleep scrolls with my plated mastersword +15 and iron shield +10 for my next run.   Those are the most useful items for me.  I also have 15 more fay puzzles to do.

I still love this game.  I brought 4 different DS games with me on a Costa Rica business trip last week and I ended up only playing this one.  Probably is my favorite DS game now.

Pretty good movie for a summer flick.  Very much enjoyed it.

I picked up Age Of Conan yesterday and the first two-three hours didn't suck me in at all.  The plan was to play that as my main game this weekend, but not now.

I probably will spend my time on GTAIV, Mario Kart, and WoW.
84  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Someone hijacked my WoW account...long on: May 22, 2008, 10:14:37 PM
My account was hacked in March of this year.  In fact, I caught the person in the act, kind of.  I logged off around 1am in the morning... all of my characters were fine.  Then I woke up around 6am and logged back in (checking mail before I went to work) and low and behold my level 70 was stripped of everything.   eek  I quickly went to my other three high level charcters and all but one was stripped.  My guillies that were on at that time said I was logging in and out around 4am in the morning.  Duh!  They should have thought something was up!  I quickly logged an in-game ticket and changed my password... DAMN IT! by the time I logged the ticket and logged back out my account password was changed!  Thank goodness I got that ticket done ingame.  By 10:30am that day, Blizzard had my account and items back.  The gamemaster even called me.  That was cool.  But man, I just felt completely violated.  That has never happened to me.  I scanned everything on my computer for two weeks and found no keylogger.  I did install a tougher anti-virus and firewall.  I also changed all my other PC account passwords.

Horrible situation.

I would like some impressions too.  I'm still playing WoW, but I might play something different until the Lich expansion comes out.   Does this game go live today?  Is it out at my local gamestop today?
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Guitar Hero IV article in Gameinformer on: May 20, 2008, 05:30:30 PM
I would be in favor of buying GHIV or Rock Band 2... if the controllers were made better.  I just can't bring myself to spend a large amount of money for something that has a good chance of breaking.  I have not bought Rock Band because of that issue.  I does look like fun.  I'm looking forward to buying a game like this once the controllers are good to go.
88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Testament [music] on: May 20, 2008, 02:35:28 PM
Low is pretty good.  I would say Practice What You Preach or New Order are up there too.  Of course the new CD, The Formation of Damnation is just as good, perhaps it might be their best.  IMO

Yeah, Testament has never been my favorite metal band but they are very good and very consistent.  Their music doesn't disappoints.
89  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Testament [music] on: May 20, 2008, 02:21:01 PM
80's hard rock and metal bands are coming back in waves this year.  Many are very good... Testament and Whitesnake new releases are top-notch.  If this new Whitesnake's CD (it just came out about a month ago) was released back in the 80's, it would be a million+ seller for sure.  Instead, it won't sell more than 100K today.  Why?  Because there is no marketing or visibility for good music anymore.  My 17 year old daughter loves music and she can't stop listening to the new Whitesnake, loves it.  But if it wasn't for me, she never would have heard it.

Sorry I didn't mean to get off topic.
90  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Testament [music] on: May 20, 2008, 12:03:30 PM
Yeah, their new one is darn good.  Definitely sounds like their old stuff and just as good... new order and practice what you preach.  They also are on one of the coolest metal tours in recent memory.  Heaven and Hell, Judas Priest, Motorhead, and Testament.

Not to mention that there hasn't been a party game for the Wii that has come close to matching the fun of it's launch title.

Boom Blox and Mario Party 8 say hi.  Ultimately it comes down to what you prefer and you obviously don't prefer Wii games.  I, on the other hand, play mine all the time and have a ton of games for it.  I have no issues with the wheel controller in Mario Kart like some do and actually prefer it to the wiimote and nunchuck controls.  I was playing Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles last night and loving the Wii Zapper for giving me that light gun game experience.  Controlled very smoothly.  The throwing controls for Boom Blox just feel great and it wouldn't be the same with a normal controller.  Something about hurling that ball that makes it great.

Also, I'd love everyone's proof of people just not playing their Wii's anymore.  Everyone says it, but I would think if that were the case, then word of mouth from parents who bought one and had it collect dust woulod get out and sales would dwindle.  As more anecdotal evidence to counter your anecdotal evidence, I know 3 families who are not gamers at all who bought Wiis and play them all the time.

Why are people having such a hard time believing in the success of this console when the numbers command respect?

I agree with Grue.  Sure you can call the wii gimmicky all you want.  But ultimately it comes down to "is it fun".  I've been a gamer for a long time.  The wii is original and I find the motion control to be a refreshing change in gaming.  Boom Blox and Mario Kart are the most recent games that are just a blast to play.  And my kids can play them with me.  Which is another big plus.
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is coming to a DS near you! on: May 07, 2008, 01:58:20 PM
It might have been me.  I ran the rescue around midnight last night.  But I am unsure if my DS reconnected to the server to say that I was successful.  Anyway, glad you were recovered.  Looking at the list of people to be rescused last night, you were on the furthest floor.  The long run was tough!  That includes the very first room on the first floor.  I was immediately surrounded by 4 mobs!  Luckly I brought a sleep scroll with me from my warehouse.  Saved me right off the bat.

The game is just a blast to play.  I think it tops puzzle quest which I spent more than 50 hours with.  And I haven't played much WoW lately since buying this game.  That is saying something because I have been playing WoW since the first day of release back in 2004.  I really hope the developer makes a sequel and keeps it on the DS... possibly put it on the next-gen DS.

Argh. Sometimes this game just decides to kill you and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

My first step into a hidden Monster House on Floor 21 was right on a Riceball Trap. Only option was to run, but a double-speed robot thingie beat me to a pulp before I transformed back into human form. Dead.

Anyone up for making a rescue run? I put in a WiFi rescue request (name is Godbolt). Rescue number is 0000-0000-5316. I'd appreciate it, as I think I can make it all the way with the gear I've got at the moment.

I won't be on until later tonight.  In case no one has rescued you, I will look you up and give it a go.

How about this:

Some wanderer man I met complained about his eyesight.  Hey, I had a herb of sight... but how do I give it to him?  Can I even do this?

Go into your inventory, select the herb of sight, and throw it to him... your character has be turned to the direction of the NPC.  The NPC will take it and use it.

Nope.  I only game after the family has gone to bed so it's all guilt free for me.

Yep, this is what I live by.  I could easily be a game nut, but that rule I made with my wife allows me to be guilt free of how much I play on a game or console.  Guilt free is awesome, but on the bad side of that rule I don't get to master many games and I definitely don't master any MP games like COD4.

I'm very lucky that my wife goes to bed very early- like 9pm or 9:30.  Meanwhile I usually hit the hay at about 1:30am on a work night so that still leaves lots of gaming time every night.

Lucky!!! My wife goes to bed around 10pm.  But I am so non-functional at work when I game past midnight.  So, my usual quittting time is 11:30ish.  I need to decrease my sleep requirements damn it!  Anyway, I am very happy with that mutual agreement and I wouldn't want to change it.  Because I could easily be addicted to 8+ hours gaming per day.

Ok, played a bit more and I do have a few complaints.

1. The camera system needs some work. When walking, it is too floaty and doesn't follow the player like it should, 100% of the time. As such, I got REALLY nausious when going after the guy in Vlad the not so terrible, in the construction yard.

Yeah, same nausious thing happened to me.  It did get better as I played the game.  I also agree about the camera system.  I didn't have much problems with the walking camera, it was the driving camera system that seemed to always float too low when driving uphill.  I had to adjust constantly with the right stick.

Minor quirks though.

I did end up picking up the game for the PS3.  I wasn't expecting much on the graphics because of this thread, but I was very surprised.  The graphics are very nice!  The city looks pretty realisitic compared to past GTA games.  I do agree with some people that the dialog isn't that great, but hey this is about driving and shooting people.  My first little feature that I found and liked was watching TV in the cousin's apartment.  That was cool.

Yeah, I got the last 3 wheels at my gamestop.  The wheel does look gimmicky... but once you play for a few races, it just works.. and adds to the fun factor.  Fun to lay on your couch and steer your car on-line with a bunch of other people.  Love the online play still.  Easy to get into and love the stats Nintendo keeps.

It might have had something to do with the fact that Best Buy is selling them for $9.99.  I just can't bring myself to pay $14.99 for a $0.75 piece of plastic.  I plan to pick up wheels 3 and 4, but not till I can find them at $9.99 or less.

Gamestop had them for $9.99... that is what I paid.

I need to know how the rescue thing works.  I tried a random rescue last night but failed.  Seems a lot tougher than your normal run.  I also noticed that you can't go into towns, so does that mean you can't save gear/items back when you are done?  Which means I should not take any of my good gear from my warehouse on these rescue runs.

I'm in the middle of my best run yet.  I just quit to come to work.  I'm on floor 27, still have Pekeji and some nice equipment.  Plenty of riceballs, lots of staffs and arrows.  Only thing I lack is healing.  I just have one chiropractic jar with 2 presses left.

I'm curious how this run is gonna end.

Nice run right there.  Good luck.

I often have to breakup my 'Big' runs because they are so intense.  When you are on a good run the intensity is through the roof with each step that your character makes because death means DEATH! No reloading from a past save.  Back to level 1.  I know it sounds odd, but I think that is why I like this game so much.

Scrolls of air and earth blessings level up your weapon and sheild.  Also, there are a couple of weapon shops in towns that level up your weapon for 1000 G. And yes, stash them in a warehouse until you have upgraded them to whatever level you want.

Ok, I died on the 24 floor by those mobs that suck down your fullness.  I need to get those guys with arrows and knockbacks next time.  It was a nice run.  My best by far.  I got the storehouse jar and filled it with my best gear before I died.  I was level 24 with about 160HP.  Now I will build up my stockpile again, concentrating on restoration herbs, blastspells, and blessing.  I will also level up my mastersword and ironshield.  I will try another run soon.  Great game where you learn as you go.
113  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is coming to a DS near you! on: April 27, 2008, 07:15:19 PM
Nice, I did get rescued last night by someone named JC.  And they left me a nice postphone staff, thanks!  I will try the other rescue option next time where it gives the long passcode.

Man, I have some nice gear and tons of items.  I had to ask for a rescue.  I have a +8 mastersword and +6iron sheild both plated.  I have 8 jars of holding with each maxed out with items.  After my rescue, when I got to Cryptic Rock Valley I was going to head back to Canyon Hamlet so I could restart and save the little girl.  She opens up the warehouse in Cryptic Rock Valley, but I decided to try my luck in table mountain with all my nice gear and items.  Plus I found a storehouse jar, my first one of the game.  I believe I can put my gear in that jar right before I die and it returns them to the starting warehouse.  I hope that is what happens!  That is my thinking, I can risk going into table mountain.  So far so good, I am surviving the hens and chainhead dudes okay.  The knockback staff is excellent to have against the hens when they change to chickens.  Easy way to kill them off.  I have leveled to 18 with 108 HP.  I am on the third floor right of Table Mountain, 19th floor overall.

I really like this game.

Ok, this game has got its hooks in me.  You know I almost did not buy it because of the 'good' but not 'great' reviews.  I'm about 4-5 hours into it and I love it.  High quality production, a lot of work went into this. It is true that after the third boss the story has a shocking non-kiddie turn.  About 10-15 minutes of movie there with most being voice, not just text.
