Question on those street crimes - is there an option to incapacitate a bad guy instead of putting two in their dome?  I've been unsuccessful so far in trying to "wing" one instead of creating A DOA - and if there are different ways to do the street crimes, are there differing benefits outside of just completing the task?

There's a way to fire a warning shot if you hold down the left trigger (or whatever button you use to draw your gun) while aiming at a suspect.  A little circle will appear, and if you hold the button until it fills up, you'll fire a warning shot in the air.  This only works in certain instances, and other than the cutscene that plays at the end of the street crime, I don't think it makes any difference.

I'll need to try that. I hope it doesn't take long to fire that warning shot since the suspect may end up getting away, lol.

I keep seeing people talking about a tweak to the sound quality in the .ini file to help CTD problems. Have you tried that?

I did the tweak and still crashed. I updated my video card driver and that seems to do the trick but I still get the occasional CTD though, no errors, but still playable now.

I just got to Whiterun, talked to the Jarl and got a quest to help his army out. I walked out to Whiterun, walked around and constantly crashed to desktop. Grrr!

I've been playing this and spent all of last weekend playing it. It's running fine on my 2+ year old rig and I haven't had any issues except it crashes when I quit the game.

I've been playing with 360 controller and switching to my trackball on the shooting parts and so far that's been working good. Graphic is pretty decent though my rig only has ATI 4850 so I've set it at medium.

Gameplay wise it's pretty cool, I haven't played the console version so this is all new to me. I like that they scanned the faces of the voice actors and they're still recognizeable. The facial movements are also pretty good. It is tough to figure out which facial gestures are doubt and which ones are lies.

I do have a few gripes though, on the street crimes, I find it weird that in a city that big with that many cops, my character is the only one who's responding to all these calls and most ended up in a shootout in which the bad guys get killed. I know it's just a game but I think I've killed 20+ bad guys in shootouts and so far, no trouble for me at all.

Overall, I'm liking the game. Been a while since I got a good "puzzle" game like this one.

Picked up the game in Singapore on the way back from the office to the hotel. Now I gotta wait til Friday night / Saturday to play. I guess I'll just drool at the box in the mean time.

I'm Tokek977 in Origin. Though I doubt any of you will be playing in my time zone though (GMT +7) or on my decent ping servers (Singapore).

I had to click "Install" on the LA Noire page in my games section today. It started from scratch (I pre-ordered Sunday), so I don't think there's any helpful preloading in this case, sorry.

I'll have to try it tonight when I get home from work then to see if that works too. 12+GB will take me a few days to download  crybaby
Oh how I miss fast and reliable broadband internet
88  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: LA Noire coming to the PC! on: November 09, 2011, 01:53:36 AM
Is it released or pre-loading? Mine still says 1 day 23 hours to unlock but I'm outside of the US.
89  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield 3 in production!! on: October 25, 2011, 07:00:03 AM
I played a little bit last night when it unlocked. Tried MP but within minutes of connecting to a server, I got kicked out with the "Connection to server timed out" error. Not sure if that's my internet or game, it did happen a lot during beta though. So I tried the SP portion, graphics are pretty good even on my older radeon card.

I'm not sure I like the whole Battlelog thing since it's web based. I prefer the in-game server browser system like the previous BF games.

91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield 3 in production!! on: October 24, 2011, 03:21:21 AM
I've been trying to download BF3 since Saturday and it keeps crapping out on me and restarting the download. I think the most I got was 7-8gb and had to restart it all over again. I thought it was just my internet connection but I guess not.

I paused the download, quit origin and restarted it earlier today before I went to work, it kept the download and resumed it. Hopefully it'll finish without any problems.
92  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad plus Rising Storm on: October 04, 2011, 06:44:10 AM
I should go back to this game, sadly, the lack of servers with decent pings makes it tougher to play MP. That and the fact that I keep getting killed is annoying, lol.
93  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Battlefield 3 in production!! on: October 04, 2011, 03:51:01 AM
I tried it last night for a few rounds and I found out that I completely suck at FPS now.

There are some glaring bugs, like the weirdly looking prone bug sometimes and I got stuck on the ground once while in prone. But overall, it's a fun game, that is if I can stay alive long enough to kill anyone and get my K/D ratio above 1, lol.

The tac light is VERY annoying, though useful for the person wielding it, I can't see them to target them.

Surprisingly, I found a pretty decent number of beta servers in Singapore, so I can have a decent ping (roughly 100, give or take), not ideal but beats 300 pings any day.

I think I'll be pre-ordering this one, maybe after the beta is over.

96  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: The Raid [Movie] on: September 12, 2011, 03:38:46 AM
At first I thought this was a Thai movie but upon further reading, it turns out to be an Indonesian movie. This is the first Indonesian movie that I'm actually excited about seeing, considering the local movie scene is mostly crap this is a very nice change for once.

98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dead Island on: September 07, 2011, 02:01:29 AM
So it's worth getting then? Even with all the bugs so far?
99  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dead Island on: September 06, 2011, 04:11:28 AM
I'm so interested in this game but I'm debating whether or not it'll be worth it for me since MP may not be as feasible with the pings and lack of local servers. Good thing it won't be unlocking til Sept 9 for my part of the world, so I have some time to wait for reviews before deciding if it's a buy or not.

With that, bring on the impressions!!  icon_smile

If you get it from Greenman (Assuming the sale code is still good) you get the DD version for 35$.  Check the deals forum.

Greenman code still works. I just picked it up for $34 (to the detriment of my wallet).
101  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Orchestra 2 - STEAM on: September 05, 2011, 01:07:23 AM
Does the regular version on Steam includes the beta access or is that only for the digital deluxe edition?

I'm still planning to pick this up but probably on the last day of the sale if the beta access isn't included with the regular version.

I usually stock up on EMP, gas and frag nades and mines prior to boss battles. I find those to be pretty effective for killing bosses.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I finished the game and I don't remember any of the bosses being immune to EMP and gas

I wish the grenades would stack up in the inventory though.

oh - Sorry to hear that - In europe the ping on Harks server is pretty damn good though, so you might be surprised

When I tried connecting to US servers for different games, my average ping is around 300-350. Not quite good enough for FPS.
104  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Impressions and stuff! [Official Review too!] on: September 03, 2011, 03:17:44 PM
I got a question for the pacifist achievement. Does turning turrets and bots to attack enemies counts as them being killed by "your hand"?

I noticed when I did that, even though I get them going hostile, I still got the "ghost" experience.
105  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Red Orchestra 2 - STEAM on: September 03, 2011, 03:11:37 PM
I want to get it but in my part of the world, the MP is hopeless with the pings I get and lack of local servers.

I may still get it though.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Saving Malik brought a smile to my face for some reason. Btw, I blew my pacifist achievement saving her

Awesome . Awesome, Awesome game

Just past that part a little bit and I went back and replayed it. Didn't know that could happen. Thanks! I also blew that achievement but no regrets doing it.

108  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: From Dust on: August 21, 2011, 04:07:36 PM
I finished it yesterday and I loved it.

I don't like the Ubisoft Uplay crap but the game runs pretty beautifully on my rig at 1920x1080. It probably could look better but the gameplay makes up for the lack of eye candy.

It just started playing here in Jakarta after the import ban of foreign movies and I watched it over the weekend.

I don't think it was too bad, the action scenes were a bit much at times but it was entertaining since I had no expectations going in.

Can't believe no one mentioned Alan Tudyk's Firefly reference!
110  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Pirates of the Black Cove on: August 04, 2011, 04:34:36 AM
I tried the steam demo last night and uninstalled the demo right afterwards. The game is way too arcadey for my taste. The graphic is nice but as for gameplay, I'd rather go back to Sid Meier's Pirates! remake.

Galaxy on Fire 2 THD is nice for Tegra2, it's free up to a certain point then you have to pay $15 to unlock the rest of the game.

3rd-party DRM: Ubisoft Online Service

about the only saving grace so far is that it doesn't have the additional line 'Ubisoft requires a permanent Internet connection to play this video game at all times' yet.

This may prevent me from buying it. Not because I'm boycotting Ubisoft due to their draconian DRM scheme but because in my neck of the woods, the internet is like the electricity, they go down and random times.

Looks like it filled up again.

If you got an invite but not able to join, keep the email and periodically check it to see if they're letting more people in. My original invitation was emailed to me about 3 days ago and I just got in today.

So looks like they opened it for more people, I just got in. If you already have an invite better jump on it before they close it again  icon_biggrin

If you need an invite, you can PM me.

Edit: Also looks like you can join without an invite, at least my coworker was able to earlier today, not sure about now.
