Get well soon Kato!

I'll be up for making a drive down to San Diego for a welcome home party.  I haven't had the good luck to talk to him or play with him yet but I have read his posts.  Please do let me know of the details if this is being planned.

I remembered buying this the first day it came out.

Any idea on how well the official Rock Band pads work on EL drums?  I'm thinking about hitting BB this week...
I heard they really lowered the sensitivity with EL drums.  I haven't tried them personally but based on the postings in Rock Band forums, that seems to be the case.

They have pads for all of the different drum sets.  Look through their catalog.
Yeah, I'm thinking about buying the MCU pad small and using the drum cover to, well, cover them up so I won't have to permanently stick them on the drums.  I didn't know about the MCU pads prior to buying the drum covers.

But what exactly does that mean in terms of the "EL"?
QM and EL are the 2 letters in the serial numbers on the back of the drums.  I think the location of the serial numbers is between the red and yellow pad, on a strip of plastic screwed on the bridge between the 2 pads.

Here's a good guide on the different drum sets:
655  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Official Rock Band DLC News, Impressions, and Comments Thread on: July 29, 2008, 05:03:26 PM
The MCU Dual pads are a single layer of 3/32" MCU over a 1/8" layer of Neoprene. This pad offers the soft comfort of MCU and the solid protection of Neoprene. For the QM drum series, there is no better option than this.
Those drum pads are designed for QM drums, mine are EL.  Harder to find good pads for EL sets.

Just thought I'd post my impressions of the Premium Drum Covers:

I got the premium drum covers today and put it on my EL drums.  As per a suggestion on the web, I put 2 pads to start with (for EL) and took it for a spin (it came with 4 pads for each colors).  What a difference.  With 2 pads, it muffled the tapping sounds quite a bit, however, since the covers are made of felt, the drums do lose a bit of bounce but the sensitivity is still there for each drum.  When you hit the rims, they will miss notes but if you stick to the inside of the drums, no notes are missed.

Another good thing about these covers is that they're not permanent.  There's no adhesive, the cover has strings that you tie to the underside of the drum set.  So if you happen to have to RMA your drums, you won't lose your covers.

So aside from the loss of bounce, I'm pretty happy with the covers.  The craftmanship is pretty good and it arrived pretty fast.  I ordered it Wednesday night of last week, it was shipped by Thursday morning and got to my office on Saturday, since no one was at the office, USPS took it back and redelivered Monday morning.  Definitely worth the $44 ($34 + $10 shipping).

Here's the website if any of you are interested in purchasing one:

I would like to join on the Rock Band fun.  The gf and I play it and sometimes we manage to get a 4 people band going with another friend and his wife.  She's hooked on Rock Band more than I am at this point.

I usually play drums on medium or guitar / bass on medium.  The GF can sing on hard (she usually sticks to easy / medium for songs she doesn't know) and bass on easy.  We have the Boston pack, Oasis pack, Jimmy Buffett pack (gf's choice) and a few single songs (paramore, all american rejects, b-52 and Blink 182).  I will buy more songs / packs as budget allows.

Holy cow, I just checked the theaters that I got the tickets for tonight and they added 3 more midnight shows, which makes it a total of 6 theaters and all but 1 theater are sold out.

That's crazy!!  I better get there early and wait in line later today.

Anyone here doing this using the perfect pushup?  I bought it last week and it's harder to do with this little machine, however, I do feel more of my muscles being used vs doing the push ups without it.

Old School:
Space Harrier.  I loved playing that game in the arcade which had the moving seat.  I believe that was my first taste of playing an arcade with a seat that moves when you move your guy on the screen.

New School:
Have to go with Mafia.  One of the few games that I've finished numerous times and still go back to every once in a while.  In fact, I just reinstalled it about a month ago and still have it on my hard drive.  The graphic is good for its time, great storyline and great characters.

I'm probably going to repeat week 3 next week and move down 1 tier.  Having the same problem as some of you that the tier 3 is way too much.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, I suspect it does, but I just bought the perfect push up things from walmart and it seems a helluva harder to do pushups with those things. On the plus side, I also feel more of my muscles working.

You can use one of these online scanners:
Kaspersky Online Scanner
Panda Active Scan

You can also download and use this tool:

If you think you have a pretty bad trojan infestation, I can recommend going to Bleeping Computer and posting your HiJackThis log in their "HiJackThis Logs and Malware Removal" forum.  They can help you remove it there.

I'd help you here but I'm still a trainee over there, so you'd be better off asking the experts directly.

I'm playing as well, thinking about joining an established guild but if the OO/GT folks are starting a guild, I can join you instead.

Not sure if I will stay past the free month though.

Currently replaying as a Vulmane Shaman, a bit more fun than my Thestran Human Paladin.
672  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Vanguard - free month for inactive accounts on: June 30, 2008, 03:41:23 PM
I started a paladin, with one of the human races.  Managed to get to level 8 adventuring and level 6 blacksmithing over the weekend.

Any other class that's fun to play?  I like a mixture of magic and melee, but must be able to solo well.
673  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Vanguard - free month for inactive accounts on: June 30, 2008, 06:12:28 AM
I'm playing this since I also got the free month.

So far, I'm enjoying it, even thinking about paying for a subscription.  I like the fact that crafting and adventuring are 2 separate levels.  Still trying to learn diplomacy.

I've been using mozy home, the free one, for a few months now. 2GB is a lot of space for backup for me and I'm not even at 1gb mark yet.

It's a little on the slow side if you back up a lot of data all at once but on a daily basis it's ok.  I set mine to back up at 4am every day on a few designated directories.  It has an option to back up your bookmarks too from your browsers, so if you have to reformat or reinstall, you won't lose your bookmarks.

If you want to try out the free one, use this URL and you'll get 256mb extra, free:

Quick peripherial question - since these phones support bluetooth, anyone ever tried to use a keyboard with it? (e.g. fold out bluetooth keyboard from Dell for their PDAs)

We use the iGo Stowaway bluetooth keyboards with some of our blackberries and they work fine.  There was a driver that needed to be installed but once that's in, the keyboard works like a charm.

My coworker uses a jawbone and swears by it.  My gf just got hers a couple of days ago and she said she likes it.  I haven't had the chance to play with it though.

I placed an order for the BlueAnt Z9 and should be here tomorrow.  I will update on how it is after I played around with it a bit.
678  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: And now - help me pick a phone! on: June 26, 2008, 05:42:06 PM
If your main concern is email, I'd go with BlackBerry.

I carry 2 phones with me, the blackberry curve (AT&T) is the work phone and HTC touch (unlocked on T-Mo) is my personal phone.

I like the blackberry for emails since the keyboard is tactile and I can type faster since I can feel the button presses and it pretty much works all over the world (boss and sales people have taken their blackberries to Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, etc).  I can say that for work purposes, you can't go wrong with a blackberry.

I use T-Mobile for my personal and has been with them since 2003.  I have 0 complaint with them, good receptions in most places and great customer service.

I also use AT&T for work and they're also decent.  I also used to work for them way back before they merged with Cingular.

Phone selection for both companies are about the same.  Personally, I prefer T-Mobile.
