1  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Forged of Blood - turn-based RPG in development on: March 06, 2017, 03:10:29 PM
There's a new turn-based tactical RPG game in the making and it's trying to get its funding on Kickstarter at the moment. It's being developed by a couple of guys that I played D&D with in Jakarta, they're hardcore D&D players.

Please check the game out, it may piqued your interest.

Edit: Apparently, it's also on Steam Greenlight

Started a new character, played for a bit up until unlocking the big safehouse at almost level 5.  It doesn't really feel any different to me.

Still reasonably fun, but I just don't have a feel yet for how the update affects the experience from 1 to 30. I'll put more time into it the next few days and provide my report on the Low End.  icon_smile

The experience from 1-30 shouldn't change since nothing was done to that part of the game. Even during the PTS, when they gave us new characters, they all started at level 30 with random purple gears.

I'm not quite clear on this, are you saying even before the 1.4 patch you thought the 1-30 experience was perfect?

Not saying it was perfect but when compared to post-30 experience, the 1-30 experience was miles ahead in all aspects. Enemies die in less than a magazine, loot was plentiful, DZ PvP was more or less equal (until people found a way to bring high end gear to their lower level characters).
4  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PC/PS4/XB1] The Division (Tom Clancy) on: October 20, 2016, 04:36:06 PM
I played in their PTS (Public Test Server) when it was available and I can safely say that the difference in the post-30 game is night and day between 1.3 and 1.4 patches. I will definitely go back to that game once the 1.4 patch is released, which will be on Tuesday, Oct 25.

After getting a character to level 30 and playing the end-game content for a long time, creating an alt (or 2 or 3) were a breath of fresh air. The NPCs were not bullet sponges, the guns feel powerful, the loot feel like upgrades and the dark zone feel less like a gank-fest. So I do think they had the pre-30 content almost nailed down perfect, it's the post-30 that needed major overhaul and I'm glad they listened to what's left of their player base and reworked it. It's not perfect but it's a good start in the right direction.

Off the top of my head, the major overhaul that I, personally, think are the best in the PTS are:
  • The change to the loot drops in post-30. In 1.3, the only way to get high end and gear set drops were from dark zone and incursions. In 1.4, any mob can drop high end, even trash mobs in the world in general. In 1.3 Underground, usually after 1 run of Underground mission, I'd get 3-5 pieces of weapons and armor, in 1.4 I'd easily get double that.
  • Removal of the weighted drops from incursions. In 1.3, certain gear sets are highly weighted to drop on certain incursions only (and dark zone). In 1.4 any gear set can drop from anywhere, they only put the weighting on certain gear set pieces (like chest piece, holster, gloves, backpack, etc) on the incursions.
  • Time to kill and time to be killed adjustments. NPCs are not as bullet spongey as before
  • World tiers and readjustment of Gear Score drops. Though this isn't something that would affect a long time player like myself since with my current gear, I'll already be at world tier 4 when the patch drops. But the adjustment to gear score drops is huge! Previously, in order to pass a challenging mission, you'll need a bunch of 268 gear score items, which will only drop in challenging missions. It's a catch 22, you need the items to run the content but the items you need will only drop in that content. They've adjusted that in 1.4
  • Overhaul of the gear set bonuses. Not perfect but better.
  • No need to go to the Dark Zone anymore if you're not into PvP, the "Light Zone" and Underground also drops the high end and gear set loot.

I'm sure I'm missing out on a LOT of changes still but those are the biggest things I saw during the PTS and I had fun playing it in the test server. For a solo, semi-casual, player like myself, the changes are a long time coming and I will be back once 1.4 patch goes live. Will this bring back a lot of players that have already left? I don't know but I think a lot of them will at least give it a shot, or probably have during the PTS.

And what was up with the killing of a White Walker with what I thought was just a crappy little spear? Valerian steel tip? Made by The Children for that purpose? Was shocked when she chucked it and it actually worked. eek

Dragon glass tip.

The same thing happened with Sam when he killed one of the White Walkers beyond the wall. The thing (dragonglass) that made them White Walkers also unmakes them I guess.

I see the reviews either praise or damn the game for it's combat difficulty.  I dl'ed the demo and I can't beat the tutorial fighter even changing up gear, etc., but I'm not a power gamer and could be missing something obvious.

The game is hard, and combat is even harder. I think that's the way the developer intended it, combat as a last resort.

Unfortunately, I haven't put in enough time on it to be able to even give a review.

I no longer get annoyed at the process of decelerating out of supercruise now that I'm using this great rule of thumb that's been floating around:

Keep full throttle until your ETA gets to 7 seconds, then adjust your throttle as necessary to keep it at 7 seconds. You'll slow down to the blue exit markers just about as efficiently as possible without overshooting your destination.

My usual way is keep it at full throttle until around 500 - 900 ls then set my throttle to the blue area, around 1/4 from the bottom of the blue area, and my ship will keep around 8s automatically once it gets close to the destination.

I sometimes have a hard time playing on the mobile app. The devices that I arm, sometimes would arm immediately but a lot of times they won't arm until the player passed them. This could be due to lag but makes it annoyingly unpredictable and hard to plan ahead.

They should take a few seconds to arm, and then they don't activate until the player passes over them.

Some won't even arm until way too late, which in turn held up the arming of other stuff, including vehicle deployments. I'm thinking it's the lag.

I'm focusing on the campaign missions right now and I figured I can do the side missions later after I finished the campaign. However, I did get to the campaign mission where I had to chase a fixer clear across town then evade the cops afterwards and I guess that made the game put me on the "online tailing" list and had a tail. He was successful since I didn't know about his presence until it was way too late and I was too focused on the campaign to do my usual precautions.

I've started using blackout a bit more now during car chases and it would throw off most of the cop cars chasing you, as well as the chopper. Though now I'm running into the issue of trying to find more system keys to build more blackout devices, lol. I learned about the blackout's usefulness during one of my ctOS mobile games where I was the mobile player and the player I was chasing kept using blackout to throw my chasers off and it worked quite well.

My first and only try so far in the online hacking had been a disaster.

As soon as I was in the other person's game, I saw him head straight towards my area on a motorcycle and started profiling and promptly found me. I hadn't been able to start the hack yet, nor do any kind of set up. Then I tried to get away and he ran me over, lol.

Maybe I'll try again later.

Tried again several times today.  Lag is pretty severe.  Even when the server says it's a perfect connection you can fire an RPG, see no effect, count to 3 then the explosion happens.  Same thing getting in and out of vehicles.

Game can be fun when it's working, but I fear we might have another month of no servers working like BF3's launch.

I've been playing it on and off and yes, lag can be very severe even when it says you have 30-ish ping to the server. I also get some fps lag but that could be due to my aging CPU though other games have no such issue.

I'm so tempted to get this but having 2nd thoughts. Debating whether to get this or wait for Assassin's Creed 4 or Watch Dogs.

I usually know when the PUG I'm in will do badly just by looking at the class composition at the start of the game. I've seen matches with 4-5 recons and none wants to use smg and attack, they all want to be snipers and use cloak. That's almost a guaranteed loss.
34  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: Ghost Recon Online (F2P, 3rd person shooter) on: August 09, 2013, 05:05:35 AM
That's an impressive score Hark. I don't think I've ever broken 40 kills in a game.

Aegis is annoying for sure but there are counters to it. You can roll a grenade underneath it (right click when throwing instead of left click), use HEAT to force the user back to cover, flank it and get inside the bubble to kill it or knock the user down with blitz. You can also mag-dump (shoot everything you have at the aegis) and it'll shorten its lifespan.

Now Aegis when used in conjunction with HEAT can be deadly since you can't pop up and throw nades or mag-dump on it. I've seen that used to mop up the entire team. If the enemy team throws HEAT, use blitz to knock the enemy HEAT down and it'll shut it off.

Now, proper use of Blackouts can mean the game since the recharge time on devices are so long without a spec equipping the "energizer bunny" device on your team. It can mean denying the use of enemy devices for quite a while.

This is definitely a teamwork heavy game and in PUGs that's hard to get unless you happen to be grouped with a bunch of clan guys that already knows teamwork and can play off your devices.

Hark, I tried joining the US queue with VPN and I would almost consider it cheating. The lag gave me so much advantage it wasn't even close to being fair.

In most games I've played, a cloaked recon is only good for flanking and holding the enemy near their spawn point and away from cap. However, most newbies will use cloak to snipe thinking that it renders then invisible so they'll have more time to aim. While that's true against newbie snipers, veteran snipers will see the shimmer of the cloak and shoot them dead anyway.

Hark, there was a post on the forum about the IP address pool separation and they did that so the red pingers won't get too much of lag advantage against green pingers.

Edit: found the news bit.

there are two separate clients.  One for EU, one for NA.

I have both clients installed but I play on the NA one and they do separate the US/Canada IP addresses from the non-US IP addresses. The only way I can play with US folks is if I use VPN.

I'm currently working on my Recon to get him to 30, he's at 20 now. Was only using MP5SD and Sentinel sniper rifle before but now with the P90 WAR, the going gets easier. So looks like I have almost 20 days to get the last 10 levels.

I'm Tokek in game, though I doubt we'll run into each other since they separate the queues for US and non-US IP addresses.

I bet you feel like this when that happens:

Pick up groups are like that, but when you're grouped with members of good clans, they can usually play off what you play. So if you use a device, they'll follow suit and back you up (most of the times anyway). Though sometimes the enemy team is just too good that your team is just steamrolled.
40  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Ghost Recon Online on: July 17, 2013, 02:19:54 AM
It's 3rd person when you're not doing ADS (Aiming Down Sight). When you ADS it becomes first person. You do get accuracy and crit bonuses when you ADS but you can play the whole game in 3rd person, except when sniping of course.
