Personally I did not use any during beta. I thought they might not allow them so I did not want to get hooked on them early. smile After they said they were going to allow them, beta was drawing to an end, so i thought i would just keep using the standard interface and report any bugs.

I will be very happy to be able to use it when retail comes, mainly due to the added hotbars. I have probably 15 different abilites that I might need fast access to during combat (as a 52nd level warrior) so 1 hotbar just does not cut it.

I counted them last night, my 52nd level warrior has 29 "warrior" abilites that are distinct, a some of those are not available across all 3 stances. If I redone my talent points I could gain some abilities while losing others.

I have not played any other class up to high level so do not know how many they have, but I can hardly see how one can complain about lack of abilites for a pure melee class when it has 30+ abilities at high level.

From what i understand if a high level does a significant amount of damage to the creature after you have damaged, or "tapped" it, your exps are reduced and its possible you will get none.

Actually, if you think about it, it would not "break the ecomony".

What it would do primarily is force new players to gain their items through questing, crafting, and/or the generosity their guild/friends. Is that such a bad thing? All 3 of those things seem more rewarding than buying something off an auction house.

Thanks to the soloability of WoW, you do not truely need to be decked out in top-of-the-line stuff to progress nicely. My character is still, at level 51, primarily in armor/weapons he has acquired through quests and random drops. How do inflated prices at the auction house affect me? Answer: They don't.

I think Blizzard (and other MMOl developers) place too much emphasis on their virtual ecomonies that are destined to be out of whack no matter what they do to balance them. Blizzard was on the right track with quest, soul bound, bind-on-pick-up items i think. But they fell back into that same ol' line of thinking all the other MMOL game devs have and feel they must try to balance the ecomony. Give it a rest already. It never works and it never will due to the dynamics a virtual ecomony.

Nice impressions Gryndyl.

I agree that Ironforge is awesome. To me it is by far the best representation of what I consider a dwarven city that has ever been in a computer game.

I kind of wish there was not a tram from Stormwind to Ironforge so the dwarves would be more isolated. But you can't have everything i guess.

Cooking, along with Fishing and First Aid, are not considered "professions". You can master all 3 of those if you choose in addition to 2 professions.

Two gathering professions seem to be the best money-makers in the long run. Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning being the 3 gathering professions. Most of the other professions require refined materials gathered from mining and herbalism (alchemy needs herbs, blacksmithing, engineering need mining). Skinninng and Tailor go together nicely as well.

I like it as well but since you can only have one "find" skill up at once, i think its usefullness is rather limited. Miners and Herbilist always want to have their Find Minerals/Herbs ability up. Hunters usually want to have one of the tracking skills up.

Also, one of the dwarves racial traits is gun specialization. Gives a small bonus to their gun skill.

Two ways i do it.

If the person you want to group with is in sight, target them. Right click on their portrait (top of the screen next to your portrat/health/mana bar). That brings up options you can click on. One is Invite.

Second way i use when I want to invite someone that is not in sight. Hit enter and type /invite koz.

Whats funny is you see folks that do not realize this who are camping named mobs. In the newbie dwarf/gnome area there is a cave with some trolls. Your final mission before you leave the area is to kill the boss troll. You have idiots that just sit there at the spawn killing it when it pops because they think they are going to get a magic item off of it. By the time they do actually get a magic item off the creature I will be 5 levels ahead of them with items better than they got.

I also see higher level noobie folks "grinding" early on and it makes me chuckle. They do not realize that quests are abundant and are much better exps that grinding.

It goes to show that old MMOL habits die hard.

You will have collection quests at ever level i am pretty sure (I am at level 51 and still running across a healthly amount).

But, as you hinted at, Blizzard does a decent job in candy-coating these so you at least feel like you have a purpose for killing. Some chain into other quests that chain into other quests all with a purpose which is often killing the "boss" of that creature type in the area. It seems fairly reasonable to me in a roleplaying sense. But I am pretty easy to please in the department. Anything that keeps me from "grinding" exps for no purpose other than to get to the next level I welcom with open arms.

Usually when you turn on your world map it takes you to the region, or zone, map. Not sure why yours would be defaulting to "world" world map or if we are talking about two different things.

You can click on the various "zones" on the world map to zoom in. Where you are is represented by a dot, so clicking it should bring you to the region map. This map has the names of most towns and various other locations name don them and shows roads and things of that nature (edit: forgot to add that until you explore the area you will not see any features of the zone, like a fog of war effect. also, usually staying strictly on the roads of a zone will not remove the fog)

Smack, 80 damage.  You have a sliver of life, they're hardly dented.  What now?  Utility spell?  Life drain?

Smack, 97 damage.  AARRRGGGGHH.  You will automatically release in 6 minutes.  [RELEASE NOW?]  The melee's HP is full by the time your death animation is over.


I am not saying that casters are right now underpowered in terms of PvP vs. melee, but you are not really giving an accurate account of how things work.

In regards to warriors, their "insta-close" spell is called Charge. It is not available when the warrior is attacked. If anyone else (or a mob, like say maybe a warlock pet?) is attacking the warrior, they can not use it. I assume that the warlock has some type of insta-cast spell (does not need to be a damage spell). Since both the warrior and the caster have insta-cast abilities, it really becomes a matter of who gets the jump on who. If the caster reacts first, the warrior can not use charge. If the warrior reacts first, the warrior can use charge.

Besides, since its only on one side (when the wallet is open) it would not be hard to prevent others from seeing it. Actually, I thought it was a bit rude to "display" your wallet anyway (kinda of like saying "oooh, look at all the money I have. haha i rock.").

Guess I am a jaded gamer then because the "coolness" of having a mount wore off in about 1 day for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the extra speed and all that jazz, but I could care less if its a ram, horse, kodo, or mechanical chicken at this point.

Unless you have lots and lots of time to devote to playing (i.e. do not work or go to school) then you probably will not be able to get to 40th level and get the 100 gold required in two weeks (when the game goes retail).

Plus, a mount is a mount the way i see it. I mean once the initial coolness factor wears off (a day maybe?) then its just a means of getting from point A to point B faster than walking.

At level 7 you can get a quest in Mulgore at the Bloodhoof villiage for a decent dagger (6-13 damage, 6.3 DPS) that should last you a few levels.

But I do not know the difficulty of getting there from the undead city at level 7. It might not be a viable journey at that level.

Servers are split up into PvP and "regular" (i guess is the best way to put it).

Both types are Horde vs. Alliance servers.

On "regular" servers, you can PvP to some extent if you chose (and a lot of players seem to do this from what I can tell).

I am not an expert on the matter but it appears to work like this. When you attack a faction NPC (mostly NPC town guards) of the other side you get flagged PvP for a period of time. When flagged, the opposite faction can attack you (and in doing so become flagged themselves if they are not already). On a side note, if you cast a benificial spells on your own faction's NPCs, it will turn on your PvP flag.

There are some zones set up that have small (relatively weak in terms of NPC guards) towns of both faction in them. So what happens is a group or several groups of one side will go attack the town of the other side. This will draw out the other side's players that want to PvP and then you get a back-and-forth battle going between the towns.

Also, there are some quests that actually flag you as PvP (they basically force you to slay faction NPCs which turns on your flag). So this also encourages PvP action because you have folks on your side trying to complete the quest(s) while the opposing side has PvPers in the area that know about the quest and seek slay them.  I have only seen a few of these types of quests though so I would consider them rather rare at this point.

The PvP servers work similarly except that many of the zones are designated as "contested". What this means is that you are flagged for PvP when you enter the zone. So you can be killed then and there. For "owned" zones, meaning zones that are designated as controlled by your faction, your PvP flag is off but any enemy in the zone is its flagged on. So you have the option to attack them (and then can be attacked) or ignoring them (and thus making it so they can not harm you).

Edit: I think Blizzard is making a mistake in using old naming conventions for the different server types as it seems to be causing a lot of confusion. i.e. lots of new players do not realize that "regular" servers have PvP also just not the the extent of the "PvP" servers.

The Grudge has maybe one jump out of your seat moment and it comes precisely when expected so it shouldn't make you jump Tongue , from there on out you are more likely to laugh at the weakness of the scares.


My wife is rather suseptable to jump-out-of-your-seat scares and got a good 6-7 out of the movie. Most she saw coming but still scared her pretty good. She said she thought it was scarier that The Ring.

All in all, it was a decent scary movie i thought.
