1  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Darkfall free to download $10/month, increased skill gains on: August 06, 2012, 11:51:34 PM
Mob drops have also been signifcantly increased.

All of these changes will be in place until DF 2.0

Skill gains are now extremely fast.  A well funded and experienced player can have a completely maxed character in a few days.  Something that previously took months-years depending on play style.  A new player can also have a maxed character in I would estimate a month or so.  The largest obstacle is the learning curve.

Darkfall, despite it's many problems, is the most player skill intensive PvP MMO of all time.  If you enjoy FPS in MMO's and PvP with risk then you should at least give DF a try.  There is nothing on the market like it.

I don't know how people figure out the mixing part of that quest.  If there was a clue on how to mix things I missed it.  I used the ingame browser and followed a guide for that part.  That's a recommended "Skip Quest" from me.

The mixing was the only straightforward part of the quest. You start off the quest by reading a book, and it tells you in a very clear way how to mix the potion. You can refer to the recipe whenever you want from the quest log. So that part of the quest didn't frustrate me much, but the rest of it did.

With all the effort they put in to voice acting in this game I think it is COMPLETELY INTENTIONAL that your character is mute.  I get it.  Does anyone else?

They could have just gone the Mass Effect route and had one voice for male characters and one voice for female. It would have made things so much more natural and better flowing. Wasted opportunity.

Are there any dev posts on the omittance of a protagonist voice?

Am I the only person that doesn't care that my character is mute?

Tom brought this issue up once again in his latest entry about TSW.

The dialogue is actually very good most of the time, which really surprised me.  Some of the villian dialogue is really well written and voiced.  I'm only through Blue Mountain, but so far the dialogue is already much better than SWTOR.  Kind of like comparing a good movie to an ok tv sitcom.  It could be I just appreciate more what they're trying with the narratives in TSW.  They seem better written, more clever.

The problem with the dialogue is that it's overly verbose, and that nobody talks the way people do in this game. Not once have I come across dialogue that has sounded even remotely realistic, well acted though it may be. Every single sentence anyone says sounds like it's been written down, rehearsed, re-written and rehearsed again for weeks. It also doesn't help that you don't ever talk yourself. It's like dialogue from Buffy, except with much more cheese and much less humor, which essentially takes it from great to bad in a heartbeat.

You mean nobody talks like its the apocalypse in real life? Tongue

Ok....I've tried.  I've gone up levels, I've earned skills, and I still don't get this game.  Content seems to be very strong with this title, but the chat system (which was completely down today), the tacked on / broken crafting system, and the absolutely awful placeholder-looking UI is just making me want to quit.  Am I missing something?  This game looks about 4 months from release if not more in my estimation.

Wow that chat thing is really eating people up.  The guys over at QT3 were pretty high on TSW and now it seems like a negativity band wagon.  They could completely remove the chat window and I would be good with it.  I haven't talked much but when I have it has worked fine.  Other than that I think TSW has been a pretty rock solid MMO launch.  No problems on my end except for one bugged quest last night.  I also don't think the UI is unfinished.  It's certainly different and a little small at times but I think thats their minimalistic approach.

I was really looking forward to the investigation quests only to find them disabled this weekend.  Not sure if that was a great move on their part as the quests seem to be TSW's strong point.

I'm really on the fence on if I should give this game a shot or not.  The allure of a new MMO is too strong and I am weak...

Their focus was on Pvp for the last beta weekend I think, and they didn't want a bunch of spoilers getting out before launch about the investigation quests.

I'm aware of that but they had to realize it was many players first look at the game since they basically opened up the beta to everyone.  If Funcom was that worried about spoilers shouldn't they of had the investigation missions disabled in the previous weekends as well?

I don't think its worth buying.  The game has some issues and I don't think even hits the quality of the games out right now (Rift, Star Wars, etc... - even with their issues).

Well that's subjective.  I would consider WoW the most well polished MMO in the universe but I have zero interest in playing its loot driven system or one of its hundred other clones.

TSW, despite its flaws, is original and I'm inclined to support that.

Like others have said - really like the setting, atmosphere, and questing but man that combat is just meh.  No idea why funcom decided to take a step backwards from AoC's system.

there is no primary attack though, it's not the way the skills are setup.

Does your build revolve around an attack that you use repeatedly?

I used auto hotkey today to pass the "1" button through on left click.  I have no idea if that would work when the combat gets more in depth but it sure made early game better.  The only minor problem was the occasional target not in range error when performing non combat left click actions.

Someone mentioned on another forum and I completely agree - primary attack should be left mouse button.

Apparently this coming weekends beta event is open to everyone.  All you have to do is sign up for beta or own a funcom game and they'll send you a key.

I made sure I still have my AoC login and confirmed it works.  If they don't send me an email then I guess it wasn't mean to be.

14  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [PC/360] The Secret World MMOG Announced: I'm Pumped on: June 18, 2012, 05:45:46 AM
How would someone who isn't in beta rank combat compared to AoC, which had probably my favorite "standard" (tab target) MMO combat.
15  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Re: [PC/360] The Secret World MMOG Announced: I'm Pumped on: June 18, 2012, 04:06:23 AM
I'm interested on hearing updates from the recent beta weekend as well.

The very negative responses on combat from earlier beta events was troubling.  The combat doesn't need to be revolutionary but taking a step back from AoC's fun system seems like a strange move.

Very descriptive.

Sold movement speed set pants (Inna's Glory) for 15 bucks.

Another level 61ish dex/vit/resist all belt for 8.

Wasn't aware you can't cash out from the blizzard bank so I guess I'll have to buy an item and resell.  Gotta love giving Blizzard their cut twice!

I read that you only get a certain amount of free listings.  Any idea on how many that is?

I've had some issues but for the most part I think the game is pretty stellar.  Love the art and music.

I don't see the floaty issue.

PvP is as good as tab targeting can get.  Lots of room for skillful play.

There's a difference between a stress test and presenting something that's utterly broken to prospective customers.  If the stress test was an effort to get me to cancel my preorder, Blizz is getting close to "success"

I started this morning at 6:45AM and couldn't create a game. I repeatedly got Error 300008 or something like that.  I never could get a game to start and so I went to run a 5k.
Then I spent 20 minutes trying to log in and getting Error 37 (sounds like I'm not the only one).
Now I finally made it past the login screen, but I'm getting Error 3008 and can't start a game.

So the results are thus far over an hour trying to play the game, 3 different error messages, no play time.  Color me unimpressed.

I'll give it a bit more time, but If it's this crappy on 4/21, I don't have much hope for it being smooth on 5/15.  It's easy enough to cancel my preorder and transfer the money to another game.

The create game errors were the only negatives we experienced in the beta weekend and they only happened a couple times.  Other than that everyone in my party loves the game and found it to have the typical blizzard polish.

I actually put in for the 15th off as soon as I got to work today smile

Concerns about performance are the only thing that has stopped me from giving this a whirl.

Do you really think a sniper should be able to hang with an "Assault" frame close range? It sounds like you want to be able to one shot people from the other side of the map and still mop the floor with their face when they get close Tongue

Assault reminds me of using discs in Tribes so I enjoy it the most of the classes.

We should get a squad going.

Pug you are correct with the sniper ability.  It replaces your shots with a delayed AOE explosive (about the same damage).

I played a lot of this and had a blast, but there is a really ridiculously low amount of content in the game atm.

I was also disappointed in the performance of recon in pvp.  (an assault's normal shot hits for harder than the sniper's shots AND it is splash damage AND fires faster...)

Well the disproportionate amount of snipers I saw last night didn't seem to have any problems racking up kills.  Two particular TDM rounds both had three recons on the opposing team.  You couldn't peak your head out from anywhere without catching a round in the face.

I haven't played the class but rate of fire/accuracy seems to be pretty high on the opposing end for a sniper rifle.  Assault shells are slow moving and pretty useless at any range over short/medium.  Grass is greener effect I suppose.
