Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Kingdoms of Amalur Impressions

Very surprised not to see any discussion about the demo since it was released yesterday. It's not exactly what I expected, but I absolutely loved it. The initial 10 minutes or so has you trying to escape a building and meet up with a professor who might know why you came back from the dead. This takes place in a dark tower like area that is filled with guards and lava. This area gives you a basic gameplay tutorial as well.
Once you escape the crumbling tower, you exit into a beautiful forest area where you get your first quest. Here is where the game really began to grab me. You get 45 minutes to do anything you like. Do quests, level up, discover new areas and the cool thing is the timer stops while you are in the pause menu. This means that leveling up and inventory usage does not count against your time.
One cannot help but compare the gameplay and art style to Fable, but the game is sooooooo much deeper than Fable. Lots of stats and abilities as well as talent trees for each class. There truly are no boundaries as to the way you shape your character's combat style.
I have followed this game ever since Curt Schilling started his own company and I can honestly say that this might be my most anticipated game of the year. While not exactly what I was expecting, it is exactly what I wanted.
I might add that you get some armor for Mass Effect 3 just for starting the demo as well as a couple of items for the full game of Kingdoms of Amalur. During my run through the demo I unlocked a couple more items for the full game as well as a weapon for Mass Effect 3 for finishing the demo.
Just curious what others think. I've seen the Fable comparisons and I've seen it called a Fable/Skyrim hybrid, but most comments have been very positive about the demo.

Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / FS: Nintendo 3DS (Black) Pristine condition

I have a perfect black Nintendo 3DS for sale. I picked up one of the limited edition Zelda bundles and just recently got around to transferring all my stuff from this one to it. The black one is cosmetically perfect as it's been kept in a case since the day I got it. I have the original box and will include everything it came with such as the AR cards and SD card. I will sell it for $145 shipped to anyone in the US.

I want to get a 3DS, the local store will give me $90 in trade in for the DSXL but I would rather sell it to someone here. They will just jack the price up on someone. I can do that! So I will sell it for $100. That should be a bit cheaper than you can buy it in the store used. It is in great condition, has all the stuff, etc. PM me if your interested. Thanks, Farley are both screens perfect?

I picked it up over the weekend at Wal Mart for $39.99 and so far I like it, a lot I might add.
The graphics are solid, but not something that will wow you. The gameplay is standard beat 'em up style like Conan, Viking, God of War or the many other games before it. You control two templars that you can switch between with the LB. As you earn XP for killing enemies, opening chests, etc, you can use that XP to purchase new abilities for your heroes. Such as shield bash which is A-A. The story is very linear, but a good story nonetheless. I like these types of games anyway so it was right up my alley.
There is also extra equipment that you use to outfit your heroes with but you have to find all the pieces to "assemble" it. Like the Guardian Armor might be 3 pieces found randomly in the areas that you traverse. Find all 3 pieces and you can then equip your hero with his shiny new armor.
I really do like it and I have heard the main story is 12 hours or so and you can play co-op over Xbox Live. I have seen no one else playing online so your mileage may vary with the co-op aspect.
With a little promotion, this game might sell, but sadly apparently I found one of the 100 or so copies that were printed in this limited release.

This thing has far exceeded my expectations. Super Street Fighter is amazing. The AR cards are mindblowing and every little feature seems to do something neat. So glad I got one. One thing I might have missed. With the DSI and DSI XL, you could immediately post any pictures you took to facebook. Did they take this feature out?

according to Major Nelson there is another piece of DLC out on day one for 800 points, called The Black Emporium not sure if that is included in the Signature Edition though,be good if it was (for you guys of course ) The Black Emporium DLC will be free for all new purchasers of DA2, not just preorders. There are details about it at the official website. someone tell me what I got with the signature edition that I wouldn't have gotten with the regular edition. The exiled prince is 560 points to me and I don't see anything else in the box that I didn't see in the regular box. Sad thing is I actually like the regular box better. I realize I didn't pay any more for it, but they made out like you would get all kinds of extra content and I just don't see it.

yeah, 3 invasions in a row killed belmont. they would just end in the middle and no npcs in the zone would spawn back.
Dude, you get so much xp from rifts, a chance at great loot and not to mention currency to buy loot as well. I don't know why you wouldn't do them. They take like 10 mins. If a lot are spawning at onces, that's the invasion. Those only happen every few hours.
I've done them and they're cool...the first 10 times you do them, but I did the same one like 6 times in an hour the other night. I realize you need to do them to get the planerite or whatever the currency is called to buy cool items with, but I don't want them happening as frequently as they do. I guess once the game opens officially and the population spreads out they might be more appealing to me, but right now they just seem to be happening constantly.

invasions are breaking the servers
Yeah am I the only one sick of the constant rifts? I play this type of game mainly to quest, not to close the same rift every 10 minutes. Nothing ticks me off more than to be out questing and then get gang raped by 3 level 18 elites just because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I thought they were supposed to be a little unique, but at one point tonight, I turned around and there were 3 rifts within running distance. Looked like something out of Independence Day.

It's fun, the multiplayer is also a blast. If you're looking for a shooter that doesn't take itself too seriously and has a few new twists with multiplayer, it's definitely worth it. I was on the fence myself, but now I'm glad I bought it.

I just signed up about a week ago and so far I'd say it's definitely worth it. I signed up just for Stacking but there is a lot more available. A lot of the minis are free. I downloaded Let's Golf to my PSP and you also get Quore, the monthly Playstation video magazine for free.
I look at it this way. I'm gonna beat Stacking and probably never go back to it. If they give me 8 games like that a year out of 12 months, I'd say I got my money's worth even if I drop out. But why drop out when it's only $4.00 a month? They also give you a bunch of dynamic themes for free as well and I hear there's some PLaystation Home stuff that's free too, but I rarely use it.
I'd say with Stacking free this month, there's probably not a better time to join than now.

I traded my copy in a while back and now I'm gonna compete in a tournament in a few weeks. Anyone have a nice copy for sale relatively cheap or want to trade? I have games from all consoles and handhelds.

I picked this up and Dead Space 2 on the same day and I haven't even opened Dead Space yet. I really like this game and can only echo what others have said. The game is beautiful to look at and the music is epic. The crafting and alchemy seem cool and the quests seem diverse enough to keep me interested. Have the day off today and I am looking forward to spending some quality time with the game.

I bought them both today. I've already beat ME2 on the 360 but I wanted to see the ME3 engine in action. IGN says this is the best version of the game. I got the LBP2 collectors too. Gonna use the cheap bookends and the dlc costumes made it worth it for me.

Here is what I have hooked up.
4 Xbox 360s 1 Xbox 1 PS2 2 PS3s 2 Gamecubes 2 Dreamcasts 1 Super Nintendo 1 Nintendo 64 1 Wii
if you count handhelds, I have one gold Zelda DS Lite, one DSI XL, one PSP (red), one PSP Go.
I also have a 250 gig slim in the box sitting in the floor that I bought before the Halo Reach Silver 360 came out. Have no idea what I'm gonna do with that.

on: November 29, 2010, 12:56:29 PM

I disagree with their entire list. Kinect? Move? How can you call those disappointments when they are just getting off the ground? Fable 3? While I'll admit it had its flaws, it's actually one of my game of the year candidates. I guess Medal of Honor is on there because it's not Call of Duty. Personally I loved the campaign of Medal of Honor and the multiplayer is fun as well, it's just not what everyone is playing.
And the top two? I loved Final Fantasy XIII. Haven't finished it yet, but I don't normally put 35 hours into a game that's a disappointment. Gran Turismo 5? Lol, I played it all weekend and I can certainly say that I am nowhere near disappointed in it. I am having a blast with it.
Here are some of my disappointments:
Castlevania - both the XBLA version and the new game. Force Unleashed 2 Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock. Alpha Protocol

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Requesting info regarding getting online with a PS3

I'm considering getting a PS3 to play Gran Turismo 5. How much of a hassle is it to getting registered and active on Sony's Playstation Network? Do I need a credit card or my first born (good luck on that ) or lots of very personal information? My Xbox Live account set up was pretty trivial, so I'm hoping the Sony one is the same. Also, does the PSN have points cards you can get at Gamestop like Xbox Live Marketplace does, to buy DLC? I checked on the Gamestop site and didn't find them, but maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing. It's actually pretty simple. Name, email address, password. It's been awhile since I set mine up but I don't think a credit card is required at all. And yes, you can get Playstation Network cards at Wal Mart, Target, Best Buy, and Gamestop. They usually come in $20 or $50 increments.

Yeah, blame The Man and not Gamestop.
Please leave me out of this. I know in Virginia that giving cash for anything falls under the state pawn laws and requires Gamestop to get all that personal info. I think it's the cash that causes the issue but since each trade in has the potential to be a cash trade they have to get the info.
