Decided to go back to give Diablo another go round, and finally got my hardcore toon up to lvl 60.  Game has a slightly different edge playing HC for me.

I liked the book, it was a fitting end to the series.

Spoiler for Hiden:
My only real complaint after reading was that after mentioning how much effort Rand was putting into leaving a lasting legacy of peace and prosperity the prologue ends 1 week after the last battle.  I know some of the visions during the last battle were meant to portend the possible outcomes but I felt it left room for one more chapter, possibly set 20 years later.

I never really had a sweet tooth, even as a kid.  Dark chocolate fits right into my palate.  Just a hint of sweet and a hint of bitter.  I have found myself enjoying the recent trend towards darker chocolate mixes.  The one candy I never see anymore but am always looking for is one of those dark chocolate "oranges".

I have a friend that owns a Volt and he LOVES it.  I live in Michigan so the cold weather does become somewhat of a factor since heat requires electricity and batteries just don't perform as well in the cold.

A few extras to consider:  His charging station was completely paid for by a $2500 grant from our local power company to encourage electric car usage.  His charging station has a separate meter to take advantage of lower electric rates given to charge electric cars.  His car is programmed, thru an ap on his phone, to charge during off peak hours as much as possible to use an even lower rate.  He has a 10k miles per year lease and he is only paying $250-ish per month, that federal credit really helps with lease rates.  When he took it on a multi state trip he averaged 45mpg driving mainly on generator power. And when driving it in the mountains the battery charged up alot whenever he had a downhill stretch.

Oh ya, and they are making a Cadillac plug in if your looking to class it up. smile
88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Why are some new movies no longer available on demand? on: January 05, 2013, 08:03:29 PM
It has to do with separate rights for movies for each distribution type.  Managed competition for each market.

Quote
The standard release routine for a movie is regulated by a business model called "release windows". The release windows system was first conceived in the early '80s, on the brink of the home entertainment market, as a strategy to keep different instances of a movie from competing with each other, allowing the movie to take advantage of different markets (cinema, home video, TV, etc.) at different times.

In the standard drill, a movie is first released through movie theaters (theatrical window), then, after approximately 16 and a half weeks, it is released to DVD (entering its video window). After an additional number of months it is released to Pay TV and VOD services and approximately two years after its theatrical release date, it is made available for free-to-air TV

Saw it last night in hfr 3d.  I liked it alot even tho there were a few pieces of the story that seemed kind of tacked on.

Spoiler for Hiden:
The stone giant scene for instance.   Only thing I got from that scene was maybe trying to show how dangerous the journey was and reinforce that Bilbo was a bit of a burden.

that part is actually in the book
Spoiler for Hiden:
http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Stone_giants

Quote
Stone-giants first appeared in The Hobbit. It was their only known appearance, although they are mentioned briefly
in The Fellowship of the Ring. They first appeared in Chapter 4 (Over Hill And Under Hill), where they are described as hurling rocks at one another for game

It's not like in the books. The movie version is
Spoiler for Hiden:
more like enormous stone golems that suddenly fight to the death for no good reason, crushing limbs and heads with rocks while the main characters climb along one of their legs. It's a bit unnecessary and isn't at all like what I imagined it would be when reading the book.

I didn't mean to imply that it didn't fit into the overall story line, or that he made it up.  It just didn't feel necessary to me. It doesn't advance the plot line in any way apart from MAYBE showing Thorin risking himself to save Bilbo once again.  I get it, Bilbo isn't the adventuring sort.

I have been a lifelong fan of Tolkien, so I expected that I would like it. My gf went with me and she generally has no interest in the fantasy genre at all. I was pleasantly surprised that she enjoyed it as well, and that she had no trouble following the characters or story line with no previous exposure to the story.

As far as the HFR, the movie seemed very clear, crisp and easy to follow. I enjoyed  it and the only scene that I thought suffered from it was when they were walking in the rain and you could clearly see that they were wet, but that rain wasn't hitting them.  Wet faces but no droplets in the face.

I have started trying to farm the Keywardens for the key pieces.  The endgame is alot different than the 1-59 grind.  Monster Power adjustment makes a big difference too, both for loot and balance gameplay. As with all multiplayer game, it is more fun with the right mix of people.

Buffalo actually has some potential this year. As a lifelong Lions fan, I know potential when other teams have it... Looking forward to the week 2 matchup with your 49ers, even tho I have it penciled in as a loss on my predictions. I don't see the Lions gelling as a team until we have at least a minimal threat to run the ball when Leshore returns in week 3.

They should immortalize your character in a hardcore hall of honor.  How nervous were you as you leveled up from 58, 59 and 60? Were you avoiding elite packs, or just business as usual?

Nervous at points, certainly. There was one point below the fort in act III where I saw an elite pack and called it a night, but aside from that I never avoided a pack the entire way (at no time did I engage a pack then not kill it or skirt one on a map). I had two absolutely epic battles with shaman groups crossing the bridge on the way to Siegebreaker. One was shielded, jailer, arcane enchanted, and half that fight took place in one of the stairwells, which was insane. The other was an illusionist group, don't recall the other mods. The first one had to have gone on for close to 5 minutes. I didn't kite all that far, but because they were shielded, I would stay back a bit (because of the beams) and leap in to try and do damage in bursts. The problem with that was they would jail me and my whirlwind would come to a halt.

There were a couple of points in the 50s where I had 2-3 packs in a row that nearly killed me and I had to rethink my gear. Usually I could find an upgrade to get some more health somewhere, then I had a bit more security for awhile. It wasn't unusual to be at risk, but if I was a whisker away from death multiple times, I knew I had to change something.

I have my hardcore DH up to 36, and I have had one or two elite packs get me nervous.  I do notice when my gear needs upgrading as I tend to have to work too hard for some packs.  How far did you get in your hardcore questline? I'm act2 nightmare and I'm considering staying there for a couple more levels until I can gear up a little more.

Who was that at the end of the first credit sequence? I never really was into comics so I don't have a prior background knowledge.

Am I the only person that uses subtitles whenever watching a movie on dvd?  It can add a bit to the movie since quite often non audible statements are a part of the script and thus get subtitles.

The Coulson/Card thing

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yeah, we did see Coulson's body with Nick Fury standing over it when he died.  The cards thing was clearly a trick by Nick Fury, which the chick was calling him on and Fury reacts accordingly.  If Coulson is in Spiderman, it's before this happened.  If Coulson is magically alive, he is no longer purely human.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Nope.. We saw him lose consciousnees/appear to die, then the medics show up, then Fury says over the radio that the medics called it... Minor thing, but we didn't see the medics call it or give up....
I could see Fury lieing about this to give him an opening for the card trick..

Spoiler for Hiden:
When Coulson is lying on the ground, dying, he even mentions to Fury that they needed something like this to draw them together.  Faking his own death was practically his own idea.  Besides he is a pretty likeable character and the most prominent character to appear in basically all the recent Marvel movies. He cant be dead.

and the frogs go with bran - actually the frogs could be slightly older or replaced by another character... and bran's scenes will probably be a total of 15 minutes screen time the next two seasons - i exaggerate of course)

Spoiler for Hiden:
I remember Rickon from the books but I think he has already disappeared, never to be seen again, from the series...
I expect them to either tag Rickon along with Bran or drop him off at an aunts house somewhere, as the most memorable part that he had in the series to date was the shared dream of his fathers death, and that's already happened.

I just hope the villain is a bit more complicated, interesting, motivated than Nero.

My Nero impression is:
"I'm CRAZY! I HATE YOU! YOU KILLED MY PEOPLE! YOU MUST DIE! EVERYONE MUST DIE"
Lather, rinse, repeat. Never mind why his crew wouldn't just mutiny and off their fearless whack job leader.

And I've seen Eric Bana do great work. Munich. Much of Oliver Stone's Troy unintentionally made me laugh when I saw it in theaters in 2004, but I thought Bana's performance was the best thing in it. But he didn't have much to do in ST but frouth at the moth and *see above, repeat ad nauseam*

Watch the deleted scenes on the Blu Ray version. It adds some depth and direction to Nero, although not a ton. But it at least explains what he was doing in between the beginning of the movie and the finale.

Whenever you decide on a path in your usual manner, actively decide to go the opposite way and perhaps it'll solve your problem.   icon_wink

You would think so, but I'm convinced that it's my decision that is determining where the enemy team comes from.  I am controlling the other team's actions, but only to hasten my own untimely demise.

I feel the same way.  No matter what direction I go, I get shot in the back from 3 dudes.

The answer is simple. Play with GTers and move as a unit.  When you have team members that you can trust flanking you then you know that your covered.  If someone somehow kills your teammate that's covering your flank they will let you know in chat, at high volume, for close to an hour...  retard
