361  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Yikes, too many games again! (in Europe) on: March 24, 2005, 09:03:33 AM
Well, games are often released a bit slower here... So now, I have to choose between:
-Resident Evil 4 (havent played one of these yet, but it has just gotten overwhelming ratings on these boards!)
-Kotor 2 (as a fan of the original, and of anything Star Wars, I can't leave this one out...)
-Brothers in Arms: the game I am looking forward to the most. I love realistic (but fun) shooters, as long as they don't evolve into sniping fests.
-Jade Empire: it's Bioware, it looks fresh and original...
-Splinter Cells: CS: Loved the first game, hated the second one. If it's something fresh, I'll be very interested...

And between all that I have to play WoW... It's too much I tell you, too much...

Oh, and one other game that I've only now seen in stores here: D&D Heroes: is it worth it for the coop mode?
362  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Prince of Persia: Warrior Within on: March 11, 2005, 03:48:13 PM
I didn't like it at first, it grew on me, and I couldn't put it down at the end. The combat is a tiny bit more button mashing than NG (which is still supreme king), but it also needs to 'click', and you'll be having a whole lot of fun then!!

It has its faults, but it doesn't deserve the beating it gets...

ANd I actually got really pumped on the music, especially the menu music rocked! ... But then, that is quite subjective apparantly smile

PS Search for the older thread, it had some good insights.

Hey guys, just curious if it has split-screen co-op?  I know it has split-screen but I can't figure out if it's co-op or not (by reading the GS review, this forum, and the company's site).

I'd like to know this too...
364  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Paper Mario 2 Final boss help? on: February 25, 2005, 02:32:46 PM
Thanks for the suggestions, though I'm doing most of these things already. I just wanted to hear I could beat her with the little health I have... I'll try it again a couple of times, but I fear the lengthy cutscenes already!
365  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Paper Mario 2 Final boss help? on: February 24, 2005, 07:00:14 PM
Yeah, I'm stuck on the final boss... spoilers obviously btw...

I've got 25 health, 20 flower power, all my teammates maxed out, and got LOTS of badge points (60+).

But now the final boss just deals so much damage, it's ridiculous, and I'm afraid my Mario has too little health to be able to defeat her frown

I've gotten past the part where there's the long cutscene in which all mario's friends wish him luck, and after which you can hurt the demon...

But really, I just die then, and since there's no way to skip all the annoying cutscenes, dying easily costs me half an hour!

So, any tips anyone?

Like the style, but I haven't got a clue as to what the game would play like...
368  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Quick Doom 3 (Xbox) question about upcoming release on: February 08, 2005, 04:15:56 PM
Yes! What about the old titles? Will they both be included? With coop and deathmatch possibilities, on split screen? I'm more looking forward to playing those old games cooperatively than the new one smile
369  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Are Sudeki and Yager good bargain games? on: January 31, 2005, 11:26:03 PM
For Yager, I think it's only available in Europe for one. I had it. (Oops, didn't read it was released recently). I was looking for a nice space-shooter type of game, like Rogue Squadron or something...

And well, the action's pretty good, but the universe is really weird and strange, with humour and a protagonist I totally could not believe in. It does have quite a story, and some variety in its missions. Graphics were good. It's just... well, mediocre I guess.

It does not have a lot of competition, but it doesn't have much going for it either in my opinion. Crimson Skies is waaay better by the way. But it's not a bad game, and maybe you'll end up liking it. It does have quite a bit of exploration and a story, the things you're looking for.

371  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Mario and Wario on: January 28, 2005, 10:49:36 AM
I think he was Mario's enemy in Mario Land 2 for the first gameboy. I think... Before that, Bowser had always been his enemy.
372  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GBA games on gamecube? on: January 26, 2005, 10:31:09 PM
I'm sure nintendo has some kind of product that lets you play gba games on a gamecube, right?

I do not have a gba, because I don't really need another console. But I'm an old school player, and I love 2D games. Games like Mario, or Castlevania, or gradius-type games, or anything side-scrolling with pretty 2d graphics and jumping in it smile!

But they don't make those games anymore it seems... So now I'm thinking, maybe I can play some gba classics on my gamecube, since they are still 2D...

Good idea? Any game recommendations if this is possible?

Anything nostalgic will be good (I had a nintendo 8bit and 16bit)
373  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / anyone getting Prince of Persia - Warrior Within? on: January 21, 2005, 11:26:54 AM
Finished it this week.

I first read this thread before starting the game, and I got in an equally bad mood as all the posters here, since I also had enjoyed SoT so much. Yes, it was too dark, and the prince was just another-hero-gone-rough.

However, after the first real boss fight, the game did get better. This is where for me the combat clicked, and it's a really fun system. Once you get the hang of it, you can do really cool stuff and start playing with your potential victims as a cat with mice.

And so, around the part with the 2 towers, I was hooked. I couldn't put the game down anymore, I found it almost as addictive as the first game. It's not as subtle, or beautiful, but the story is as good as the first one, and the gameplay mechanics have been improved.

There's also a part in the game where the prince breaks down and has given up, which I found really good. It did make him more human. He does have decent character development, but not enough in the beginning. They should have made another intro, which would show the witty prince of SoT we all love, slowly transforming into the Warrior Within he is now. (Besides, the intro there is now doesn't make any sense at all if you think about it).

So, in conclusion, it's a very good game. BUT, it has a very slow start, and the change between the 2 games is too big. After a while, you'll have adapted, but it's tough at first if you liked SoT a lot. It's not as good as SoT, because thinking back, I remember as many scenes from the first game (which I played a year ago), as I do from this game, but in it's own right, it's good. And it DOES have a certain PoP-atmosphere. The second game in the series, The Shadow and the Flame, was a bit like this one.
374  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Happy Winter-een-mas! on: January 16, 2005, 09:27:53 AM
I know of Winter-een-mas, and I know all about Ethan's exploits smile

I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner, so HAPPY WINTER-EEN-MAS to all gamers!!

But, btw, I don't think the humour in ctrl-alt-del is that great anymore. Often he relies on violence and cursing for a joke, which I feel is kinda cheap. But I still read them every day smile
375  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Games from Europe. on: January 10, 2005, 09:59:52 AM
Well, I can tell you this: I live in Belgium, and in Europe we use the PAL-system. I once got a xbox-game from the states (parents brought it home), and it didn't work. It said something about region-protection... Anyway, I can't play american games on my european xbox, unless I get it modded. So I guess it's the same for you...
376  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap - reivewers are stupid on: January 09, 2005, 09:48:01 AM
I haven't played many Zeldas. I tried a little bit of zelda 1 & 2, a bit of Ocarina of Time, and I finished A link to the Past and The Wind Waker.

Saying that, The Wind Waker was VERY familiar to A link to the past. Sequence:
1) You leave your house to rescue someone: first dungeon.
2) After the rescue, world opens up to you. Now there are a couple of dungeons, where you acquire artifacts.
3) These artifacts allow you to acces another dungeon, and face the Evil Mastermind. But first you get the Master Sword.
4) After facing him, you lose (sort of), and many more dungeons open up to you, to gather artifacts.
5) These artifacts, in turn, allow you to acces the final dungeon, and kill the bad guy.

I liked both games a lot, but they were almost identical in set-up. Also, all the same items came back. Surely some new creativity can't harm the series?

378  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Any Cooperative (with AI) FPS games out there? on: December 17, 2004, 02:56:02 PM
Or......

Buy an xbox with both halo-titles. They're split screen cooperative only, but they're aboslutely a blast to play!

Or how about digging up an old copy of Doom2?

Or Serious Sam?

380  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Finished Halo 2? Discuss here. *SPOILER WARNING!* on: November 22, 2004, 10:41:12 AM
Finished it on medium, had a good time overall.

Points of criticism:

*Some of those later levels, especially the covenant city, were pretty bad. I'd much rather fight in human cities, jungles, or outdoor areas than those cramped and dark corridors. I didn't even look like a covenant city...

*The story at first, but now that I understand it, I like it a lot. Still, they shouldn't have advertised it as a Covenant-invades-Earth scenario, that's just a lie. That's like saying the second Matrix Movie is about defending Zion...

*The lack of human ammo, mentioned in that other post. I love the battle rifle, but it can only hold 108 bullets. Not much...

*No Brutes and Elite fighting next each other, I think they would have complemented each other perfectly... Oh, and not enough Drone-fights (those flying bugs). I loved those guys! I also expected Prophets to be part of battle groups, coordinating Elites, and giving passive bonuses or something... Guess not...

*edit: and what about that E3-level they showed? It looked kick-ass! But yes, I've read they scrapped that...

But despite all these points, it's a really really good game! I'm now playing through on Heroic, and I like it a lot more now. Medium was just too easy. Oh, and I've tried Legendary a couple of times, but I can't get past some of the first fights smile I really don't know how I'm going to tackle that one! Cooperative probably...

If anybody has any hints about solo-ing Legendary, let me know!

We invade whoever we owe money to and look for WMDs till the local government gives up and calls our debt paid in full  biggrin

But seriously I have no idea...I dont really know of any country who pays off thier defecit or loans.

If countries want to be able to join the european union, they need to have a plan that shows they're paying off their debt, instead of building it up. There are all kinds of economic conditions a country has to fulfill, and these are taken quite seriously.

Take my country for example, Belgium. It's a small country, with a huge debt, that was created in the 70's. But since the 90's we're steadily paying it off. It doesn't help off course to have a 'new' government that uses up all the money the previous one saved up (yeah, lower taxes, free bonuses and other stupid shit that costs a lot of money!), but hey, that's politics...
382  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Return of the Sith videogame trailer up now on: November 07, 2004, 01:35:49 PM
Yes, that's a spoiler all right, but if you watched the documentary on the star wars dvd about Episode 3, you'd already know that... I think it was on that anyway... The other spoiler that Yossarian talked about so subtly, was something noone knew yet...

By the way, I think Yossarian should delete or alter his post, I sure wouldn't like to stumble on that!
383  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Do I need to finish Halo before buying Halo 2? on: November 07, 2004, 09:43:52 AM
Congratulations! I have completed in once as well, and I only play cooperative on legendary... I think it really is the most fun way to play the game... I use the plasma pistol and regular pistol a lot, as well as running to elites and sticky-ing them! Or die trying...

I hope they make legendary a bit more difficult in Halo2, since I'm now very good at the single-player part of the game... I still want to die a lot on medium the first time I go through the game.

And I really hope they change the way Hunters attack. They're the easiest enemies on legendary frown

385  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Swapping my XBOX for Gamecube on: November 07, 2004, 09:35:31 AM
I have both as well.

I bought my gamecube last christmas, and I haven't touched it in half a year.

There just aren't a lot of games for it! Yeah, I got it for Zelda as well, Rogue Squadron II, Mario Kart and Viewtiful Joe. All of them are great titles, but once you've played the classics for the game, there's not much you can do with a gamecube.

A console is only as good as its games, and there are just too few games for it. So, buy it as a secondary console for little money I'd say.
386  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / UK PC Game Magazines? on: November 06, 2004, 09:59:57 PM
Pc Zone is a major one. They have a tough scoring system, and favour a no-bullshit approach.

But I haven't read them in a year or so, so they could have changed by now...

You know, when I finished Ninja Gaiden I thought how cool it'd be to have a similar game, but with jedi's. It would be perfect!

This game looks a bit like that...

Different preferences I guess... There is not a game in the world I have played as much as Diablo 2, especially cooperative with a friend. I wouldn't have been doing that if it had low content I think... It has AMAZING balancing I think Tongue

But this is no thread about Diablo 2. So, to keep this on topic, can I see some pictures of some high level armour-wearing chicks please smile
391  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / doom 3 on xbox on: November 04, 2004, 08:43:18 AM
I played the demo for pc yesterday, on my aging computer. It's a 1.2 Thunderbird, with 512 MB RAM and a geforce4 t4400. Anyway, the demo only featured the first 3 levels, but I liked them a lot!

The only thing I didn't like was the horrible stuttering on my computer. If it would run smooth though, I would have loved the experience, and most certainly have bought the game.

So, I figured, I'll buy the xbox version. It'll have coop to boot, so someone can hold a flashlight, while the other guy shoots!

Anyone else waiting for it to come out on xbox? I mean, the game has had a lot of criticism on these boards, but I don't really get them after playing the demo... It seems like a very solid game to me, with a really good atmosphere. I really felt like a stranded marine on Mars biggrin

Yes, play it. Use a walkthrough if necessary, just play this unbelievably hilarious game. Superb music, a bizarre and utterly original story, great humour, fantastic NPS's and one of the best hero-and-sidekick teams ever! What could you not like about it? smile
394  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Ninja Gaiden is way hard on: October 23, 2004, 09:53:30 PM
Hang in there! We've all been there, at that point where the game seems too much work, and nothing works...

And then, suddenly, it starts 'clicking'... For me it did around chapter 4. I restarted my game then, and breezed through the earlier levels after that.

This is one of those precious few games, that once you're in the zone, you become Ryu Hayabusa. The Dragon Sword becomes an extension of your will, you will block, counter, roll, wall jump and perform every combo there is in the blink of an eye!

And really, not to brag or anything (because I rarely get ninja master-scores anyways), but you won't find it hard at all anymore after playing the hurricane packs.

Hints I can give you: Learn the dragon sword, learn wall and jump attacks, block and roll, use counter-techniques!, and try defeating normal enemies without losing any health. This can and MUST be done, so you can save your precious elixirs for bosses.

And yes, level 4 has a horrible save point progress. I was equally frustrated the first time I played that level. Just hang in there!
395  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / RTW performance on lower end machines on: October 19, 2004, 07:21:02 AM
At my parents home, I'm running it on a AMD thunderbird 1.2 Ghz, with 512 MB RAM and a GeForce2 MX! WHich is really below the minimum settings, and it runs! Yeah, low detail and all that, but it really amazed me, it's really playable.

EDIT: I have had an error though that makes the tactical map go completely black, like the textures couldn't load. A reboot fixed that...
396  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG-Review] Mortal Kombat: Deception on: October 04, 2004, 10:12:46 PM
Yeah, I know, the previous game had the move list too. So versus matches ususally revolved around looking at the list for a minute, memorising 3 simple combos, and then frantically trying to pull these off.

I liked the game, but I can't go back to it after the masterpiece that is NG smile

EDIT: No, most games revolved around selecting Scorpion, and yelling "Get ooover here" a lot biggrin
397  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [CG-Review] Mortal Kombat: Deception on: October 04, 2004, 09:46:49 PM
Do you still have to memorise all the combos? Or are they a bit more 'freestyle', like in Ninja Gaiden? That's what I didn't like about the previous MK, the fact that you can't play it with a buddy who doesn't know any of the combos by heart.
398  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What game to buy? And some other questions on: September 24, 2004, 04:12:43 PM
So, I finally went for Burnout. I sold some titles I didn't play anymore (Marvel vs Capcom, DTM driver, MoH:AA) and got the game pretty cheap that way. And it's true what everyone says, it's a BLAST to play! I haven't had this much fun with a racer ever!!

I have PGR2. I thought it was fun. I was mistaken smile Burnout, now THAT's fun! The one thing I don't like about racers is the make-one-mistake-restart-the-race mechanic, and this game doesn't seem to have that! You can crash a lot, and still end up first! (Except for those beat the clock races, but that's how they should be too).

So, to everyone who advised Burnout, thanks!

And to anyone who doesn't like racers much, because they're too difficult, or make you memorise the tracks, or whatever... This game is different, it's arcade racing perfection! biggrin
399  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What game to buy? And some other questions on: September 10, 2004, 09:40:05 AM
Thanks for the fast reply, Lockdown smile You may not recognize me, because I don't post a lot, and I've been a member of CG since the very beginning.

I'll wait for a couple of other answers before deciding, since you basically said that ALL these games (except perhaps Spidey) were worth buying.

Perhaps I should elaborate on my tastes: I love Ninja Gaiden, Halo, Crimson Skies, KOTOR and everything coop. (There, I just managed to name games everybody likes...)

I like hard games, except hard driving games, and it doesn't matter if a game is short, as long as it is 'intensive'. Like Max Payne 2, or PoP... I tend to play these games a couple of times anyway...
400  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What game to buy? And some other questions on: September 10, 2004, 09:18:47 AM
I don't have a lot of money, so I'll probably only buy one of these games. Which one would be best?

1) Spiderman 2: Got a LOT of praise, and then suddenly a lot of criticism... How is it after the hype?

2) Burnout 3: I have PGR2, and I'm not much of a race fan. Crashing however, sounds like a lot of fun. Is it fun on split-screen?

3) Beyond Good and Evil: Still haven't bought this one, but it seems like a short game...

4) Fable

On another note: Would Doom3 run on a AMD 1.2 Ghz with a Geforce Ti4400 and 512 MB RAM?

And a final question: I have Hunter: the Reckoning. I bought it cheap for coop-play, but me and my buddy don't like it. Are the other RPG-lite games the same? D&D Heroes, BG... ?
