8121  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / US v.1.50 PSP exploit to be released tomorrow morning? on: June 15, 2005, 04:47:33 PM
I can't use this because I updated to 1.51.  There is talk that Sony is going to start putting auto updates on games that come out in the future to fight this kind of stuff.  What we really need is something like this that works with 1.51.

I am also very tempted by this game.  I think I might wait until Meteos comes out though.  There are also a couple xbox games coming out soon that interest me, so this game is kind of stuck in the middle somewhere.  I wish it had some kind of multiplayer since the one player game seems to be short.  Anyway, may still pick it up, who knows.

From what I have read, the single player is short in that you can bea tthe end boss rather quickly, but like all Kirby games, there is a lot to go back and do afterwards.
8123  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Kirby Canvas Impressions on: June 14, 2005, 07:35:33 PM
I plan on picking this up on the way home.  Did it come with a pink stylus like the Japanese version did?
8124  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Batman Begins Reviews? on: June 14, 2005, 05:47:59 PM
Batman games always suck.  That is all you need to know.  Which is a shame.
8125  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / No High def for Revolution on: June 14, 2005, 04:48:06 PM
I don't buy Nintendo stuff for HDTV.  Even if I had HDTV, I would still buy a Revolution.  I buy Nintendo stuff because I think they make very original games that my whole family can enjoy.  I have XBox for the more mature stuff and Nintendo for the fun stuff.  I think the Revolution will be priced cheap enough that HDTV won't be an issue for consumers.  The people that HAVE to have HDTV probably weren't Nintendo's target audience in the first place.

Comparable DS games are $40 so I guess that's just the way it is for now.

Actually, that's incorrect.  DS games go for $30 pretty much everwhere (although I wouldn't put it past Gamestop to charge more).

Depends on the game.  DS games range from $30 to $40 and PSP games range from $40 to $50.
8127  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Lumines Puzzle Mode on: March 30, 2005, 12:21:31 AM
There is a time limit.  By the way, I LOVE puzzle mode.  That time limit varies by puzzle and appears in the upper right part of the screen while you play.
8128  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Does anyone here even have a DS? I have some ?? PSP too! on: March 28, 2005, 04:44:55 AM
It's a shame you can't own them both.  I like my DS and my PSP for differing reasons.  That being said, the PSP sure is sexy.  I have the same number of game sfor both systems (well, not counting GBA games), so I am okay with the lack of games some perceive ont he DS.  You really just need to aks yourself what it is you are looking for in your handheld.  I really like the touch screen on the DS, so if you want that kind of mechanic in your games, go for the DS.  If you want a machine that plays games that look near as good as a PS2 and on a beautiful screen, go for the PSP.
8129  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / If you have Wipeout, you can use the PSP as a web browser!! on: March 27, 2005, 06:21:12 PM
Guys, this isn't quite what you are thinking.  Basically, he has a DNS server set up so that it resolves the IP web site Wipeout goes to to a web page of links that he has.  So, you are only going to be able to do it where you have control over a DNS server (in other words, not at your local Starbucks or anything).  It's cool and all, but not quite what I think a lot of you were hoping for.
8130  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - When does Nintendo get scared? on: March 25, 2005, 04:47:44 PM
Quote from: "AttAdude"
I agree that less games with more quality would be a good thing.  however there has to be some watershed point there you are just putting the damn things out so slow you lose the admitidly short attention span of those that live in this time.  Our boys at the big N got dangerously close to that mark with the gamecube.

Also a very valid point.  For the DS, they are indeed going pretty slow, but it launched at Christmas with some title and then we went into the normal beginning of the year slump for games which affects all platforms.  From March on, there is at least one game per month that I am interested in for the DS and that is good enough for me.  Others need more games per month and I can understand why that is too slow for them.
8131  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP - When does Nintendo get scared? on: March 25, 2005, 04:05:09 PM
I love reading that the Gameboy is targeted for 6 year olds, because I have tons of games for my DS (I count the GBA games in this) that I think are above the level of a six year old.  I have proof of this because my son is six and he isn't going to be fully grasping games like Advance Wars and Final Fantasy Tactics.  He does like his Minish Cap, though. smile  That's my boy.

At any rate,  I have both a PSP and a DS and I love them both for differing reasons.  I don't thin kthe PSP is going to put Nintendo out of business and I think there is plenty of room in the market for both.  I also don't subscribe to the theory that more games, regardless of quality outweighs fewers great games.  I maintain that I would rather get fewer releases, assuming they are great games than 50 games a month I am unwilling to buy because they lack innovation or quality.
8132  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Untold Legends a bust? on: March 24, 2005, 06:27:26 PM
I had Lumines and Untold Legends on pre-order.  After reading the reviews, I bought Lumines, Wipeout Pure, and Metal Gear Acid.

OK - I'll try!

-You connect to your PC with one of those USB cables that have a small end on one side. I'm sure there's a real name for it but I don't know it. The Japanese PSP came with that cable.

The name for it is mini-USB.

8137  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / WoW Strategy Guide: Yea or Nae? on: November 08, 2004, 06:00:44 PM
I would never buy a strat guide for an MMORPG.  Too many things change so close to release.  For instance, when Star Wars Galaxies was released, they had changed the Smuggler requirements a good deal from the information that was in the guide.  For these, I think that online is the best place to get the information you want.
8138  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Eddie Izzard on: November 01, 2004, 10:38:20 PM
The funny thing about Izzard is that he puts me to sleep.  Something about his voice soothes me and every time I watch it, I can't make it through the show.  It isn't that I don't think he's is truly that his voice puts me to sleep.  My wife loves him to death and gets angry that I can't make it through the tape.  Maybe I should watch it when I first wake up.

Not a fan of Fileplanet. IMO, Gamespot Complete is a far better deal, and they had the EQ2 beta for subscribers, and I got into that. I gave it away to someone here who really wanted it, but still....

And that someonbe was me. smile  Thanks again, Jeff.  I have been enjoying it a lot.  Now I am awaiting the open beta for WoW to compare.
8140  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / ATARI 2600 Adventure was the Beginning on: October 28, 2004, 03:27:54 PM
All hail the greatness that was Adventure.  I used to just play it over and over on that setting where it generated the random placement of the items.  It is amazing what used to capture our attentions back then.
8141  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Scrubs 10/26 on: October 27, 2004, 04:35:09 PM

Me and the wife laughed plenty of times.  The shocking ending wasn't so shocking (the Molly Shannon plotline) considering they have done something similiar before.  Still, one of the only shows on TV that I actually look forward to watching every week.
8142  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / National Treasure on: October 26, 2004, 06:49:11 PM
I was telling my wife last night that it looked interesting to me.  It caught my eye in an Indiana Jones kind of way for some reason.  No clue if it will be good or not and I hate the way that movie trailers and commercials like to spoil plot points (we see the Boromir dude pointing a gun and asking for the next clue, so I assume he is going to betray Cage and the girl).

At any rate, it looks like an interesting storyline to me.

Personally... I don't think it will be ready.  The latest patch has caused a lot of server instability it would seem.

They got this fixed last night.  I was able to play afterwards and didn't crash or lag out at all.
8144  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / The WoW vs EQ2 photo showdown hoedown! (56k beware) on: October 20, 2004, 05:04:24 PM

Sorry...I just can't decide between the two.  I just started the EQ2 beta last night and I am hoping to get into the WoW open beta when it comes so I can make a fair comparison, but right now they both appeal to me equally.

That is some serious shit.  I mean, if he burnt himself on the crackpipe, she would be to blame.  But, if she takes the time to nuture him and teachhim the right way, she can avoid and future mishaps.  It is nice to see a mother taking some time to do things right.

8147  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / EQ 2 Beta - am I being paranoid? on: October 19, 2004, 03:11:54 AM
Lucky ducks!!!  I never win those Gamespot giveaways. frown  I was hoping to get in, too, because I would like to try EQ2 and WoW betas to see which one I am going to go with.
8148  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / So how was everyone's weekend? on: October 18, 2004, 04:12:34 PM
Very boring.  I had no money, so the family just sat around the house all weekend.  Did my workouts on Saturday and Sunday and watched football all day Sunday, culminating in watching the Saints lose to the Vikings, which I of course expected.

I've heard things both good and bad about EQ2 on my guild boards, but none of the bad seems all that bad to me, or doesn't impact somethnig I am too interested in (crafting)... so I think I'll give it a shot.

I am not sure why everyone is so against the craftingf system in EQ2.  I have read about it and it actually sounds pretty cool to me.  Like you fight little "battles" while you craft and bring some interaction to things.  Sounds a lot better than crafting I have seen in other games which is just dragging and dropping resources into slots.  This actually sounds like little mini-games.

I think soloing might be a bit too easy in WOW.

Hopefully that will change at higher levels.

It doesn't.  I levelled my toon 54-55 and 59-60 exclusively those two levels by grinding mobs solo.  I actually got better at soloing as I got higher level.

The question  have is do you have to solo in WoW?  From what I hav eread about WoW, you can solo all the way to max, but are there still enough groups out there so that you can find a group pretty easily if you want the social and team aspects of grouping?  Concepts like these will be what finally make me decide between WoW and EQ2.  Hopefully, I can get in the betas of both and see for myself.
8151  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / NFL pay per view would be sweet on: October 17, 2004, 10:38:57 PM
Yeah, I guess it would be nice if you could just pick one game to watch and buy that.  I get Sunday ticket every year, so it doesn't matter to me much.  I started off watching Green Bay vs. Detroit, switched over to Atlanta vs. San Diego, and ended on Seattle vs. New England.  I am now watching Dallas vs. Pittsburgh and will watch my Saints lose to Minnesota tonight.  I like the ability to switch between games if one gets boring, but like I said, it would be cool for people to spend less money and pick one game a week or something.

8153  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Yankees 2, Red Sox 0, bottom of the 3rd... on: October 17, 2004, 05:58:22 PM
I always enjoy the years that the Yankees spend all that money and still can't win the title (like last year).  I think if I lived in New York City, I wouldn't be a Yankees fan because it is just boring.  What is the fun of having your team win all the time?  It just loses all meaning.  This is all coming from a Saints football fan, though, where you really appreciate the years you can actually get in the playoffs.  I really think that baseball needs a salary cap to give some other teams a chance.  I guarantee you that the Yankees wouldn't win all the time if they actually had to watch what they spend.
8154  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What compelled you to go Console? on: October 17, 2004, 05:48:55 PM
My first console was the home Pong game.  I followed that up with an Atari 2600.  Next, I got mky first computer, an Atari 1200XL and that began my career in computer gaming.  Basically, I havel always been both a console gamer and a computer gamer and will continue to be, though I tend to lean more to computer gaming since it doesn't occupy the TV and I have been too cheap to investigate methods to pipe both my vidoe and sound from a console into a computer (if anyone has good suggestions on this, I would appreciate them).  Really, most of my console gaming these days comes from my Gameboy.

I will concede that it could easily be the most polished day one MMO ever, but that doesnt mean it will actually be ready and that there wont be tons of nerfs to come, because there will be.

There has yet to be a MMO "ready" for release.

Final Fantasy XI was 100% stable and very ready for release. Never say never.  smile

That's because it had been out for a year in Japan.

It's funny, the book I am currently reading, "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell", was purchased due to reading about it on the forum.  It truly has been an enjoyable part of my life.

I bought this book recently as a result of the GG forum as well.  From now shaving the boys and manscaping to trying out various games I might not have purchased before to finding a good running program that took me from not being a runner at all to now running 3.5 miles eveyr other day, GG has definitely had an influence on my life.

It is good to see so many people have moved over to this forum and we can keep some of the magic alive.  Maybe Rich can come post in here from time to time as well. smile
