7761  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FFXI - Impressions/General Talk on: April 19, 2006, 07:19:25 PM
Well, I went to Best Buy to get it and they didn't have it yet.  They checked the back because they just got their UPS shipment and they made me wait about 45 minutes before coming back and saying it wasn't in the shipment.  I think I should take that as a sign.

Back to your earlier question about Eater gifts. I have seen a couple posts online about a Top Hat gift for this holiday. If that's the case then I did receive that. It arrived in a letter from Mortimer last week but I honestly don't remember the letter hinting at it being a holiday gift.

The weird thing is I got that top hat from Mortimer back on President's day.

I looked at that keyboard on a web site and they say it has a 6 foot range.  I guess they are just being safe or something.  Was yours 55 bucks at Best Buy?

Got it as a gift from Nintendo around New Year's.  Was sent in a letter.

Hetz, in case you don't go back to the other thread.  WHich wireless keyboard did you pick up?  Is it working good and have good range?  How far away from your 360 do you sit?

Ok, I picked up the game (and a wireless keyboard at Best Buy).

Good News: I've got the game

Bad News: The registration servers are down for "maintenence" until 4AM tomorrow.    SO, I can install and patch.....but I can't play cause I can't register my account keys!!!

Hey, which keyboard did you get?  Does it have good range?  You sitting across the room ffrom the 360 with it?

If I do break down, it won't be until tomorrow when I can walk into Best Buy and buy the game and a wireless keyboard.

Internet was out earlier, so I couldn't get my town up.  It is up now, though.

Also, did anyone get a present from Nintendo for Easter?  I had heard there was one, but I didn't get it for some reason.

My first test, part of the intro, was also only 1 test.  I think that's just the way it is, although I saw that when you did the test again yourself, it gave you three.

So can one simply walk in the locked Orrery door now?  I suppose it doesn't fit into anything inparticular, but don't you need to be at least the second level of the mage guild to access the University?

I hear it looks nice.

THe Orrery looks very cool inside.  The quest to get into it was pretty boring and simple.  The concept of getting a new power each day is also nice.  You don't nbeed to be in the Mage's GUild to get into the lobby at the university, so I think anyone should be able to do this.
7778  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Train that brain! (Brain Age Impressions) on: April 18, 2006, 04:15:12 AM
Picked it up today on the way home and had some fun with it.  My brain age was in the 40s somewhere...46, I think.  I like how they don't give you all the mini-games right up front.  Going to be cool to graph this stuff over time and see how I progress.

I also have trouble with the game recognizing my Blues.  Also, I had a hard time writing G in the game.

I started playing this again over the past week after taking about six weeks off (my town was a mess!) but I haven't seen any GT'ers on my list since then. Am I still on any of your AC friends lists and/or have any of you still been connecting to the WFC?

I think you are still on my list and my town is open all day today.
7780  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What are you buying this week? (4/17) on: April 17, 2006, 01:36:21 PM
Probably just Brain Age, but man I want FFXI so bad for the 360.  I played it on PC and loved it, but finally stopped because of the afore-mentioned lack of soloing ability.  I fear I will eventually break down and buy it, though.  Hopefully I can be strong.
7781  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Gamecube too dark on S-Video on: April 17, 2006, 01:34:11 PM
I have a question.  Are the S-Video cables something you have to buy extra?  I never had a TV with S-Video or above and now I have an HDTV.  All my components are taken up, so I can't use the component cables and I guess it would be nice to at least have S-Video.  Did the S-Video cables come with the CUbe or do you have to buy them separate?

I actually didn't play the second level until I got all the bronze, silver, and gold artifacts.  I then tried trial mode on level one and didn't make it, so I went to the second level.  I will go back and try again until I beat that time, though.  I love little extras like this and instead of this game being 6 hours for me, it will be far longer.

7784  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Another Oblivion bug? on: April 14, 2006, 12:19:36 PM
I seem to be under the spell of a bug involving a quest in the fighter's guild.  Basically, I am with someone in the guild going to a cave to kill someone.  I clear out the first level and get to the second level.  I clear that out as well.  There is a button, which from what I read, is supposed to open a gate right by the button.  When I press it, nothing happens.  So, I can't get further int he quest and if I want to just skip it to maybe wait for a patch, then I will have this guy follow me around everywhere.

I have tried reloading my autosave into the dungeon and it still isn't working.  I have done a search on the web and someone said a certain other gate needed to be closed before it would open for them. I closed that gate, but it didn't work.  Others have mentioned clearing the cache when the game loads worked for them, so I will have to try that.

SUpposedly it is a well-known bug, so I am wondering if any of you have found it and if you managed to get around it.

So, anybody know what exactly the Warrior Pack (the one that gives Kameo 10 or so more looks) contains? I really hate how there's no way to fully preview what you're gonna pay for and download on the Marketplace (especially with the Themes and Icons).

I bought this one for my kid, who really loves Kameo, so I'll answer for you.  Basically, it gives Kameo about 10 outfits you can dress her in.  I think I remember seeing cowgirl, ninja, pirate, robot, Joanna Dark, Egyptian, Native American, some kind of camo thing, and then a couple others I can't remember.
7787  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion - Next download details/pricing emerge on: April 08, 2006, 09:53:07 PM
I know everyone wants to go all conspiracy theory on Bethesda chargin for content that they couldhave put in and all that.  However, it isn't like the game doesn't already have more content than most will actually see in the game.  If it was a 10 hour game and then they charged for another 10 hours by breaking it up into 10 $5 chunks, I could see the anger.  This game supposedly has 200 hours of content.  I don't feel they're trying to rip me off by adding a few quests here and there for $2 a pop.

Now, I also don't thyink they ripped content out to charge.  I will give an example.  There is mention of the Orrery in the Mage's Guild.  It's the locked door in the lobby at the Arcane University.  There is a lady who runs it and she mentions it and mentions it is in disrepair.  Now, there is a module about to be released which gives you the quest to get it fixed and then use it.  I don't think it was in there and ripped out, but instead they had all these mods planned already and put content in the game to kind of hint at it since they knew they would be releasing it so close to the launch of the game.  However, consipirists will be consipirists and people like you are just more the glass is half empty type.

Nobody has been cheated at all with content being added to a game with so much content in it already.  If people don't want it, they don't buy it.  Pure and simple.  Nobody has been cheated and nobody owes them any free content.

but it does indeed look like the free content for games is gone...except for Namco.

Don't forget that Kameo gave away free co-op multiplayer.  I think there will still probably be free stuff from time to time, but buying things will be the majority.  I'm cool with it, too.
7789  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Lost in Blue (DS) help! on: April 08, 2006, 01:33:10 AM
I really enjoyed the game a great deal and finished the main story.  I tried out the second mode where you play as the girl, but lost interest with a lot of other DS games coming out and I recently traded it and a bunch of other games to get Daxter and Syphon Filter for free.  It's definitely a game for those who like a little bit of "work" in their games (like Harvest Moon).

I had all kinds of trouble with drawing on the carpentry mini-game.  The way I finally got it working was I would start drawing the shape right before it turned the corner.  Hopefully, you understand what I mean by that.  If I remember correctly, the shapes would move horizontal and then move vertical.  So, right before it made the switch, I would start drawing.

Or you can just do like I did on my PC version and create a mod that makes all purchasable horses (and Shadowmere) unkillable. After I lost 2 horsies that way, I got tired of it and coded it in. biggrin

Am I like the only person who games that lives with the consequences of their actions?  My horse died and I walked until I got a new one.  Your powers are weak, old man.

I'm glad I got to play GRAW with you last night, Jarrod.  Thanks for sending me the invite.  It took a while for me to accept because I was finishing up the Tomb Raider download, playing the demo, downloading the Kameo multi co-op patch, and loading up PGR3 which I had recently acquired.

Played through the demo last night and I really liked it.  It confirmed the fact that I will be picking it up.  I especially liked the little see saw puzzle and thought it was cool that they had some physics in the game.  Also, that was the finest crate pushing I have done in a game.  smile  Seriously.  WHat I mean by that is that you could actually push the crash in any direction, whereas in most games you can only push a crate in 4.

I forgot to mention my one complaint with using the 360 to stream from MCE.  It seems to cut off the very end of songs.  I would guess it is something like the last second or three of a song.  Not sure why it does it, but it does.  Maybe I will look on the Google and see if anyone else had the problem and has fixed it.

Normally, you don't get any gold at all in random animals.

I've seen it about twice in my play time up to level 13.

I've seen it much more than twice.  My luck is 50.  I actually hat ewhen I see gold on animals, since crabs, fish, wolves, and bears don't tend to carry much pocket change.

Well, if it is like the majority of mods I saw out there for Morrowind, the art isn't as good as the designers came up with.  I love the idea of mods, but I find quality mods are few and far between.

Lots of free armor right there...all I'm saying is that it seems silly to charge money that hundreds if people are doing for free.

Are they gonna charge money for a new house...tons of house mods out there already...so what do they do, tell people it some type of violation to make house mods?

I meant horse armor and more specifically, the horse armor that Bethesda created themselves.  I don't think they could do anything if someone created horse armor in and of itself, but if someone created a mod and used the exact same art, there would be an issue.
