Hush, LD.  Simply HUSH! We have started fragging team-mates last night.  Let's me and you head out to a COMBAS together

This must be why everyone got quiet after I asked Soulchilde to follow me out to a COMBAS last night.
7682  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What changes and improvements would you make for GTA 4? on: July 18, 2006, 03:58:56 PM
Stop while they're ahead?  You know, I used to love me some GTA, but the series has just gotten old and stale for me.  There's only so many times I can run around commit crimes and I think I've reached my limit.

I really theink they've done some innovative things in video gaming with their whole open-ended thing, but I think I'd like them to do something else with it (like Mercenaries did).  Something sci-fi might be nice smile.

I actually did dream about it last night.  I forgot about it until you mentioned dreaming.  I forget what the dream details were, other than I was trying to get my customization just right.
7684  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / For those having XBL Connection issues with Chromehounds on: July 18, 2006, 02:32:47 PM
You know, I don't have 88 UDP open and I only have 3074 UDP/TCP open and I show up as Open on NAT.  I can't assign 88 UDP because my router apparently uses it (not sure why it would use it, but whatever).  I guess I will go in and put 2074 just in case.

By the way, I don't think I've commented too much on this game in this thread, so I want to rectify that.  Quite simply, the game rocks.  By game, I just mean the multi-player, because the single player doesn't interest me in the least.  I did the first 6 missions for Soldier and then got on to do multi-player and never looked back.  I've only ever made a soldier and I love the role.  I go in guns a'blazin' without much fear.  As long as I can get in close range, I can usually survive.

I love the mech customization part and I have really worked to get my mech looking the way I want.  I wish I could save a picture of the mech and show others because I think he looks pretty cool and I want to show people who don't have the game what kind of things are possible.  I just wish I could find a missile counter that only weighed about 100.  Might go look at the guide ot see if one exists.  I am sure if it does, it has like 5 charges and probably wouldn't be worth it.

Playing in the Goonsquad is a load of fun and I think we have a very good group of guys (and girl) in the squad.  The game is very addicting because of the MMO aspect and I thought I had left that behind after playing MMORPGs since Meridian 59 and finally stopping when I cancelled WoW recently.  Chromehounds is much better as an addiction, though, because it doesn't take much of a time investment.  It isn't like a raid which could take 3 hours to do.  Missions are going to take 20 minutes at the most, usually.

PhillyPeteRock keeps sending me messages begging for some of us to give up Chromehounds and come play with him, but I think he is going to be disappointed.  Pete, if you are reading this, go get Chromehounds.  It's a shooter at heart, except it is a shooter with awesome robots.

I've just learned tonight that the amount of entries into the lottery is determined by your squads rank. Tonight we went from rookie++ to regular, along with that we shot up from 8 to 15 entries.

Yay for that.  Looks like we will get more lottery positions soon.

Heh I made multiple requests in the multiplayer forum thread stating that I didn't have much creativity for naming.

That explains it.  I never go into that forum. smile  In fact, I never go into any of them except this one.
7688  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / BFME II Discussion on: July 18, 2006, 01:49:47 AM
THe demo reminded me that I don't like RTS games.  I like them in theory, but they just don't grab me and I have wasted so much money on these games that I give up on after a few levels.  THe sad part is I still almost broke down and purchased it just because it was Middle Earth.  Ah, the power of licensing.

I like the name way more than Goonsquad. GT Gangsters ftw.

Well, no one gave me any suggestions for a squad name, so everyone can just live with it.

I didn't know you were asking for suggestions or else I'd have chimed in. smile  Not the greatest name, Goonsquad, but then it doesn't matter much in the scheme of things.

As I am still learning, have I been doing ok with the TC role?  I could use some feedback if there are ways I can improve.  I would also like to develop a soldier and heavy gunner and sometimes switch off to a different role to be able to get more into the action.  As long as russia hasn't destroyed Sal Kar by the time I get home tonight, and if Tarakia still is destroyed I will most likely take us into assylum with Sal Kar.

You rule as a TC.  When we get too many for a 6 person, I rush to try to get into the smaller group you make.  Take that as a compliment. smile

I cant even find where you can search for a clan or guild unless you actually know the name. exactly the way it is listed. Am I doing something wrong?

I think you search without setting any parameters.  It then brings up all that are available and recruiting.  Keep in mind I have never done this myself, but I thought I heard someone mention this is how you do it.

I have a question about building the mechs.  When I was playing around last night with the builder, I saw I could mount a gun so that it would point straight up in the air.  Why the hell would I want to do that?

If I remember reading right, you gain one part for finishing the mission with grades F-A, and 2 parts for winning with grade S. These parts can be used to either make new Hounds for SP (as goods you buy in MP do not work in SP), or for use in multiplayer.

Actually, I don't think this is quite true.  I think you get 1 part for finishing the mission and then 1 each for the two secondary objectives.  For instance, I got an S Rank on a mission, but only did 1 secondary objective.  I only got 2 parts.

No Infrastructure was really what drove me to trade this game back in.  I really enjoyed it at first, but got tired of soloing.  I didn't want to invest in the equipment required to play over XLink.  I am ver ymuch looking forward to this sequel, though, so I can play online with others.

Quick rules question.  Does anyone know why you would bother setting a non-quick spell card?  The only reason I can think of is if you need to make room to avoid a discard.  With quick spell cards, you set them so that you can use them on an opponent's turn.  But, I don't think you can use a normal, equip, field, or continuous spell card on another person's turn, so there owuld be no need to set one for that.  Any ideas?

It can also look like you are setting down a trap card, which might make your opponent less willing to attack you.

Yeah, that was another reason I thought of after I posted.  I also have seen that there are cards that require you to have set spell cards or traps to activate.  Thanks for the response.

I am definitely looking for reviews and impressions on this one. One of the reasons I got my PSP was to play some RPGs with decent graphics, but all the RPGs that have come out haven't gotten very good reviews.  Hopefully this one is different.
7702  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Sleep mode question on: July 11, 2006, 09:24:40 PM
Sleep mode can make your charge last a long while.  I really never ever power my PSP off, but always put it into sleep mode.  You can definitely play, put it into sleep, and fire it up the next morning.  However, since the battery doesn't hold a ton of charge, you are of course limited to how long you can play period.  I have left it in sleep mode for at least a week and been fine.  Usually I let it sit on the charger, though
7703  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / New Super Mario Bros. on: July 11, 2006, 04:05:28 PM
Just wanted to throw my two cents in here.  I just 100%ed the game last night, getting every coin in the game and unlocking every cannon, warp pipe, and alternate level, giving me three stars right next to my save file.  I absolutely loved every minute of the game and am still going to keep it to play multiplayer with my son.  Truly a very fun game.

I picked this up the other day after reading this thread and have been enjoying it.  I win some and I lose some and overall so far I have enjoyed just playing with the starter deck.  I have bought some boosters and will start to try to play with the deck a bit.

One question I have is regarding EXP and levels.  I just got to level 2 and I have no clue what going up in levels does for me.  Any ideas?  Also, is there going to be more than just finding random people to duel on the map?
7708  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I think my DS Lite just bit the dust - UPDATED! on: July 03, 2006, 09:42:13 PM
I finally got my DS Lite back.  Took over a month, due to nobody springing to pay for more than air shipping between the U.S. and Japan and back, but I did finally get one that works.  Navy blue DS Lite goodness is back in my hands and I can work on getting those final coins in NSMB with my pretty screen.  Looks like they replaced it rather than repair it.

7710  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Prey Demo, today? on: July 01, 2006, 11:24:45 PM
Well, playing multiplayer knocked down my excitement a great deal.  It was just plain deathmatch (not sure if there are other modes besides this) and it was laggy and not that much fun.  I keep hearing the single player is short, so not sure I want to drop the money down for it after having played the multi.
7711  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Prey Demo, today? on: July 01, 2006, 03:51:22 PM
So, I downloaded the demo this morning and played through it.  All I can say is "Wow!"  That demo rocked and turned this into a must-buy.  Definitely not your run-of-the-mill shooter, with the cool weapons, the portals, the wall walking, etc.  I bet multiplayer can get pretty hectic if you can constantly jump from wall to floor to ceiling.  Anyone else think this thing rocked?

I won't give them any slack for a demo.  You release something to promote your game, you deal with the consequences.

I've seen plenty of companies who had made great games turn around and make crap, expecting their name and some visuals or similar mechanics to hold the game.

I've honestly hardly run into any demos that have sold me on a game.  They usually aren't very representative of how good a game truly is because how can you sum the total experience of a game in a level or two?  If they give you the first level as a demo, you are just doing the basics, so you probably think the game is boring.  If they give you a later level, then you don't have the basics mastered to properly play the level.  For me, the demo system just doesn't really work.

If you want a great choice for free, download the 2.7 firmware (assuming you have no interest in homebrew) and track down the Japanese demo for Loco Roco.

Isn't there an English version out now?  Thought I saw that somewhere.  The Japanese version is fun, if you can figure out what to do smile.

Yes there is.  Go to the Sony PSP site on your PSP and go to the Games section.  Go down to Loco Roco and you can download the demo there.  Also, if you don't have wifi, I am sure you can just go on your PC to the site and download there and transfer, but this is how I did it.
