7561  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Why EA sucks #246: ESPN Pay Per View for Madden on: July 25, 2006, 04:53:13 PM
The sad part is that people will pay this money for this.  People just have too much disposable income these days.

Hey Arkon, what's up with you and your 3 simultaneous auctions?  There was a part I wanted last night and I couldn't get it, ya lottery hog.

Please let it not be the original GH with all the same songs.  I will not buy it a second time.

Will be taking my son to a Cub Scout campout this weekend, so no gaming for me until Sunday night.  Will probably play Chromehounds, though.
7567  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Test Drive Unlimited Pricing Announced on: July 21, 2006, 12:08:50 PM
Yeah, when I saw it was 39.99, I immediately thought that the downloadable car packs were going to be very high priced.  We'll see if I'm wrong, but I just can't shake the feeling.  Of course, optional car packs are optional, so you still get a $40 game which will hopefully have a large amount of cars in it.
7568  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Has Portable Gaming Changed Your Gaming Habits? on: July 20, 2006, 02:22:43 PM
I, too, have done portable gaming since the original Gameboy.  Actually, I supposed those old things like Merlin and the Mattel handheld football game count as well, so back that far, I suppose.  So, nothing has really changed because I've been doing it as a kid.  I am amazed, though, how much time I put into my DS and PSP while at home.  I mean, I have all the other console systems and yet I have historically played my portables more.  Lately, though, the 360 has become king of my gaming time now that I have some good people to play multi over Live with.

We need to institute a polic to help against shooting teammates.  If someone asks in the mic whether someone else is friendly or foe, everyone flash their headlights.  Or come up with a better idea than that. smile

I downloaded the demo this morning and took it for a spin.  Fun little platformer with interesting art syle and Lost Viking-like game mechanics.  The demo lets you do about 4 or so levels and I definitely enjoyed.  Definitely wouldn't be worth a retail release, but is great fun as an arcade title.

I heard Hollaback Girl for the first time yesterday.  Awful song and makes me think Gwen should stick with No Doubt.  I like a lot of the bands in the list like Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim.  Definitely looking forward to more Lumines action.

7575  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / What changes and improvements would you make for GTA 4? on: July 18, 2006, 03:58:56 PM
Stop while they're ahead?  You know, I used to love me some GTA, but the series has just gotten old and stale for me.  There's only so many times I can run around commit crimes and I think I've reached my limit.

I really theink they've done some innovative things in video gaming with their whole open-ended thing, but I think I'd like them to do something else with it (like Mercenaries did).  Something sci-fi might be nice smile.

You know, I don't have 88 UDP open and I only have 3074 UDP/TCP open and I show up as Open on NAT.  I can't assign 88 UDP because my router apparently uses it (not sure why it would use it, but whatever).  I guess I will go in and put 2074 just in case.

By the way, I don't think I've commented too much on this game in this thread, so I want to rectify that.  Quite simply, the game rocks.  By game, I just mean the multi-player, because the single player doesn't interest me in the least.  I did the first 6 missions for Soldier and then got on to do multi-player and never looked back.  I've only ever made a soldier and I love the role.  I go in guns a'blazin' without much fear.  As long as I can get in close range, I can usually survive.

I love the mech customization part and I have really worked to get my mech looking the way I want.  I wish I could save a picture of the mech and show others because I think he looks pretty cool and I want to show people who don't have the game what kind of things are possible.  I just wish I could find a missile counter that only weighed about 100.  Might go look at the guide ot see if one exists.  I am sure if it does, it has like 5 charges and probably wouldn't be worth it.

Playing in the Goonsquad is a load of fun and I think we have a very good group of guys (and girl) in the squad.  The game is very addicting because of the MMO aspect and I thought I had left that behind after playing MMORPGs since Meridian 59 and finally stopping when I cancelled WoW recently.  Chromehounds is much better as an addiction, though, because it doesn't take much of a time investment.  It isn't like a raid which could take 3 hours to do.  Missions are going to take 20 minutes at the most, usually.

PhillyPeteRock keeps sending me messages begging for some of us to give up Chromehounds and come play with him, but I think he is going to be disappointed.  Pete, if you are reading this, go get Chromehounds.  It's a shooter at heart, except it is a shooter with awesome robots.

I've just learned tonight that the amount of entries into the lottery is determined by your squads rank. Tonight we went from rookie++ to regular, along with that we shot up from 8 to 15 entries.

Yay for that.  Looks like we will get more lottery positions soon.

THe demo reminded me that I don't like RTS games.  I like them in theory, but they just don't grab me and I have wasted so much money on these games that I give up on after a few levels.  THe sad part is I still almost broke down and purchased it just because it was Middle Earth.  Ah, the power of licensing.

Well, no one gave me any suggestions for a squad name, so everyone can just live with it.

I didn't know you were asking for suggestions or else I'd have chimed in. smile  Not the greatest name, Goonsquad, but then it doesn't matter much in the scheme of things.

As I am still learning, have I been doing ok with the TC role?  I could use some feedback if there are ways I can improve.  I would also like to develop a soldier and heavy gunner and sometimes switch off to a different role to be able to get more into the action.  As long as russia hasn't destroyed Sal Kar by the time I get home tonight, and if Tarakia still is destroyed I will most likely take us into assylum with Sal Kar.

You rule as a TC.  When we get too many for a 6 person, I rush to try to get into the smaller group you make.  Take that as a compliment. smile

I cant even find where you can search for a clan or guild unless you actually know the name. exactly the way it is listed. Am I doing something wrong?

I think you search without setting any parameters.  It then brings up all that are available and recruiting.  Keep in mind I have never done this myself, but I thought I heard someone mention this is how you do it.

If I remember reading right, you gain one part for finishing the mission with grades F-A, and 2 parts for winning with grade S. These parts can be used to either make new Hounds for SP (as goods you buy in MP do not work in SP), or for use in multiplayer.

Actually, I don't think this is quite true.  I think you get 1 part for finishing the mission and then 1 each for the two secondary objectives.  For instance, I got an S Rank on a mission, but only did 1 secondary objective.  I only got 2 parts.

Quick rules question.  Does anyone know why you would bother setting a non-quick spell card?  The only reason I can think of is if you need to make room to avoid a discard.  With quick spell cards, you set them so that you can use them on an opponent's turn.  But, I don't think you can use a normal, equip, field, or continuous spell card on another person's turn, so there owuld be no need to set one for that.  Any ideas?

It can also look like you are setting down a trap card, which might make your opponent less willing to attack you.

Yeah, that was another reason I thought of after I posted.  I also have seen that there are cards that require you to have set spell cards or traps to activate.  Thanks for the response.

7595  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Sleep mode question on: July 11, 2006, 09:24:40 PM
Sleep mode can make your charge last a long while.  I really never ever power my PSP off, but always put it into sleep mode.  You can definitely play, put it into sleep, and fire it up the next morning.  However, since the battery doesn't hold a ton of charge, you are of course limited to how long you can play period.  I have left it in sleep mode for at least a week and been fine.  Usually I let it sit on the charger, though

Just wanted to throw my two cents in here.  I just 100%ed the game last night, getting every coin in the game and unlocking every cannon, warp pipe, and alternate level, giving me three stars right next to my save file.  I absolutely loved every minute of the game and am still going to keep it to play multiplayer with my son.  Truly a very fun game.

I picked this up the other day after reading this thread and have been enjoying it.  I win some and I lose some and overall so far I have enjoyed just playing with the starter deck.  I have bought some boosters and will start to try to play with the deck a bit.

One question I have is regarding EXP and levels.  I just got to level 2 and I have no clue what going up in levels does for me.  Any ideas?  Also, is there going to be more than just finding random people to duel on the map?
