Nope

Personally, I don't like rumble anyway, and turn it off whenever I can. I can grok that other people like it, though.

The authors of that article retracted the statement that there is no vibration:

Quote
No Wii Remote rumble? Kittsy spotted that I'd made a mess of page 15 just after we finished the mag. It was too late to correct and resend the page to the printers (apparently yelling "Hold the presses!" doesn't actually result in boiler-suited workmen running about like mad and machinery grinding to a halt). So we forget about it, assuming the worst that might happen is that a few readers might write in to point and laugh at our mistake. Of course, now it's all over the internet. And we look very silly indeed. So, to clarify: the Wiimote does have a rumble. And a speaker. Shigsy isn't going to kick out either feature (as far as we know). DON'T PANIC.

As big of a Nintendo fanboy as I am and in his defense, those are the exceptions rather than the rule for Nintendo.  Yes, they've put out some M games on their systems, but they aren't so common.  Despite being 33, I actually tend to shy away from M games because I am relegated to playing them only late at night when the kids are in bed.  I do think Nintendo should put out more M games, though, even if I wouldn't necessarily buy them because I believe it would help with their success.

Yeah, I did it once before back around the 2.0 days, but ended up upgrading when GTA came out because it required a certain version to play the music files.  I kept upgrading ever since because I liked the features it added, but as I realize I don't really ever use this things to play games, much less browse the web, watch videos, or listen to music on it, maybe there are some interesting applications out there that I will use it for.  Plus, if I can take the games I do buy, rip them, and put them on a memory stick to cut down load times, that is probably my big justification.  A lot of the reason I pass the thing is over is because there a few games with no load times.

As of last check, you can emulate 2.71 right now, which is what you need in order to run all current games.

Yes, but my problem is that since I am at 2.8 right now, I don't think I have a way to get back to 1.5, do I?

I do have an Onyx Lite preordered, but have been using the DS for months and never felt the screen was dark or anything like that except when trying to play in the car (i.e. in brightly lit areas it can get washed out).

I once thought this way, as well, until I saw pictures of the DS Lite screen.  Seriously, when I heard about the Lite, I thought, "I don't think my screen is dark or anything...why would I need it?  There is no way I am buying one."  Then, I saw the pics of the screens before it was released in Japan.  I imported.  'Nuff said.

The newer PSPs on the market cannot be downgraded to 1.5 due to changes in the motherboard.  Only models that could have been 1.5 originally (the newer ones start at 2.0 or 2.5) can be downgraded.

Mine was originally 1.5, so I shouldn't have a problem there.  I bought it on launch day.  I just need a way to downgrade.  Looks like I will have to wait.

Yeah they recently cracked 2.80 so all 2.81 does is patch the security hole.

Wait, so I can downgrade to 1.5 from a 2.8 PSP now?  If so, PM me with details on what I need to know to get this done.
7529  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PSP] Firmware 2.81 on: September 08, 2006, 03:27:48 PM
The way I read that article, they posted all the 2.80 features and then the last thing they posted was what was new to 2.81, which is a security fix.  I am staying at 2.8, I think and maybe hoping they crack it there, so I can do some homebrew.  That way, I might actually do something with my PSP these days (though I did enjoy Valkyrie profile while my DS was on its month-long journey to and from Japan).

If you get a DS and don't get a Lite (they may have them used, but I would think those would be rare), you are doing yourself a great disservice to save a few bucks.  If you go DS, get the Lite.

Honestly and in the end, I gave both systems a chance. I've been through 2 DS's now (phat and a lite), and once you go PSP and if you're a graphics whore like I am, you just can't look back at the DS. It looks like something from 10 years ago. The PSP looks like something from the future.
Sure it's expensive, but look at everything it does. It has a web browser built-in. Move playback, MP3 player, more online games.. better graphics.. it's just a much better system, IMHO.

I am the exception to your rule.  I am a graphics whore, but the DS has such a better library than the PSP that I rarely play the PSP and have a monthly debate with myself on whether I should sell the damn thing or not.  I will agree that load times are exaggerated, but they are still more than you get on the DS and therefore they still bother me on a portable system.

Hell, even when I have good games to play (I currently have Tales of Eternia sitting in my PSP), I look at the PSP and DS sitting side by side and I just skip over the PSP.  I have such a love/hate relationship with the thing, but I keep it around because I don't want to sell it off and then regret it when something like Metal Gear Portable comes out and I can't try it.  And yet I know that when it does come out, I will be chest deep in good DS games and won't give my PSP a second glance.  I really should get some balls and sell the damn thing.

Now I'm scared...

Do you need the Wii to be positioned in a certain way in relation to your TV? Do you have to be facing it? All my consoles are in a closet in the back of the room, opposite of the wall the TV is on.

Until now, I assumed that the Wii's controller would be RF and just 'know' the direction I'm holding it is pointing at the TV.

Any ideas?

From what I understand, there is a sensor bar you attach to the TV.  So, you can have the console wherever you want, but you need to put the sensor on the TV.

I was all gungho for this game, but I've read that it is on the shortish side and that the don't do much to make the gameplay interesting across the length of the game.  Basically, what you saw in the demo is all you do all game and while I love the charm of the graphics and such, I am was kind of hoping there was more to it.  I will probably wait to pick it up when it comes down in price.  Before the month started there were more games to buy than I could afford and so when something like this comes out and it isn't as great as I thought it might be, it is nice because it relieves some stress on the pocket.  Next week for DS alone is insane and then you factor in that I want Lego Star Wars 2 on the 360 as well.  That's all in one damn week.  Crazy.

September, as we know, has far too many games released for its own good.  I still haven't bought Enchanted Arms or Saints Row from last month and as much as I want Loco Roco, I can't buy it because I need to save up for all the good DS games coming out this month.  So, sadly, nothing for me.

Hmmmm...I died tons of times, so I must suck.  I still beat it quickly, but I don't think it is supposed to be a long game.  Instead, I think you are supposed to play it multiple time because there are 9 endings, I believe.  I am on my second time through right now, but took a break to finish up Phoenix Wright, which I had paused to play Star Fox the first time through.  Will definitely be coming back to it as I enjoyed it very much and it has gotten harder the little bit I have played of my second time through.  The story is definitely much different this time.

I always want to start up playing EVE, but always get discouraged because I never have any clue what is going on.  The tutorial in the game is much better than it used to be, but I am still lost.  What I am looking for is maybe a place where I can see a description of all the professions in the game, so that I can choose what I might like to do in the game.  Then, I would want a guide to get me started on how best to pursue that career choice (starting race, etc.).  Is there such a beast out there and, if so, where?

Oh, I also realize this game is open-ended, so no need to respond with an answer along the lines of "anything you want."  You know what they say about a jack-of-all-trades.  Instead, I am looking for basic templates of professions (fighter, trader, etc.) that I can then tweak to my liking.

Let me ask you this, if you are planning a get together with a lot of people, don't you wanna pre-plan some things in advance? This is the same thing, we're just talking about our preferences for how we would like to see the league played.

Nothing is contaminated.

A debate is an argument.  I assumed this thread was about getting people signed up in a Madden League and not streching it out to 4 pages by debating (arguing) about the rules.  It's too late now, but you guys should have put this in another thread.  No need to argue (debate) my last statement as I won't be posting in here again unless it gets back on track.

Regarding video RSS feeds...  and pardon my ignorance...  why is that a feature that you would want?  What are some good video RSS feeds?

There are a few video podcasts I watch (Diggnation, Frederator, etc.) and I choose to watch them on the PSP.  The RSS feed makes it so I can easily download the podcast to my PSP wirelessly.  I have a job where I travel, so it's good for things like downloading at a hotel as well.  Will be better if they ever support streaming video via RSS so that you don't even have to download it, since video podcasts tend to be big).
7548  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP Firmware question on: August 23, 2006, 01:37:20 PM
You're going to get varying answers from people on this.  Some never upgrade (and in fact some have downgraded to 1.5 for homebrew or pirating purposes) and others upgrade.  I always upgrade when the new one comes out because it usually adds at least one feature that I would like to have.  This time, for 2.8, it was for video RSS feeds.  I think the next firmware will probably enable the PS catalog download stuff, so I will definitely want that.

Tough luck on the bricking, though.  I have upgraded a bunch of times and never had the problem.  I even did a downgrader back a long time ago, just to try out some homebrew stuff and even that went fine.  If you are going to upgrade again, I would suggest deleting the download from your memory stick and try downloading it again, just in case it was corrupted.

Seriously, though, I would pay up to $199.  That should come with Wii Sports and two Wiimotes, though.  If they are just going to do the system, it should be $174.99 at the most.
so you're saying that an extra controller and three(wii sports is three different sports) games is only worth 24/25 bucks?

I am not sure that Wii Sports is warrants a full retail price and is something they could easily give away.  The difference would mostly be the extra wiimote.

I picked up my copy at midnight as well.  The Gamestop is around the corner and I got into bed at about 11:30 thinking I wasn't going ot do it.  Then my wife laughed as I sat there in the dark for two minutes and then got back up and got ready to go out.  I just knew I was going to sit there awake and think about whether I should go and I must as well just go.

I got lied to there at the Gamestop, though.  I had pre-ordered the non-Hall of Fame 360 versions because I was pretty sure all it added was a bonus DVD.  When I got to the front to get my copy, I asked the guy what the difference between the two were.  He told me that the Hall of Fame edition let you unlock Hall of Fame players.  I couldn't honestly say whether he was right or not because I hadn't paid too much attention to the other differences and I didn't want to buy the lesser one and not get the Hall of Fame players.  Turns out he was wrong and I am out $10.  I will probably watch the DVD because I paid for it and I am not confrontational enough to go back and argue about it, but it does suck because I wouldn't have bought it for just the DVD.

They killed Origin.

It really pains me to dislike EA as much as I do.  The games you stated up there and killing Origin are among the main reasons why it hurts so much.  I used to absolutely love EA.  EA, Infocom, Epyx, and Broderbund were my favorites back in the day.  Then...things changed.  I really want to outright boycott them, but they do produce some good games from time to time and so I can't.  I wish I was stronger, but I am not.  It's bad when a company sucks and you still can't help but support them in some way.  If they would change their ways and be more responsive to the community, put out more than one patch per title, and generally stop being the hugest corporate assholes onthis planet, all would be forgiven.  It's not going to happen, though.
