Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I got me a Nintendo DS!

Twisted works just fine on the DS. In fact, if you have both Twisted and TOuched in at the same time, you unlock something in one (or both) of them. I forget what it was because I did it so long ago.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendogs voice recognition problems?
|
on: August 27, 2005, 02:07:37 PM

Yeah, I did all that. It sounds clear on the playback. For instance, Sit and Shake kept getting confused by the dog. I finally had to change sit to sit down. I keep wasting a lot of my training time having to retrain to try to get the dog to stop confusing things.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Nintendogs voice recognition problems?

I have a deep voice and keep having problems. I can't tell if it is supposed to goof up commands sometimes or not. It seems like I tell it to do one thing and it does something else. Like I say "Lie Down" and it sticks its paw up to shake. THose two phrases don't sound anything alike. Hopefully, it is just simulating that the dog doesn't always get it perfect. I wish I knew for sure, though.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Oblivion no longer a launch day title (XBox 360)

Wow, if you can't make it through a 4-moth launch window, how are you going to stomach it if the PS3 gets delayed until 2007? Sony did the same launch window thing with the PSP, so Sony is not immune to it. I am certainly disappointed that I have to wait a little longer for Oblivion, but I think it will be worth it. Plus, there are some other launch day games I am interested in. Too many, in fact.

I definitely can't wait for this one. I loved the first one, though I don't own it anymore because it didn't have much in the way of replay value for me (getting a full set of cards wasn't enough and I didn't really want to go through the story again). I wish I hadn't saved over my file after I beat it, so I could have just replayed all the replayable missions over and over, but I saved and didn't feel like going through it all again to re-open them.

.
While reading files/music/movies off of the stick is less power consuming than reading it from the UMD drive, that power savings will be countered by the screen always being on. You can adjust the brightness of the screen to get you a bit more time, but there's no way to turn off the screen entirely without shutting down the system. Sure there is. Just hold down the brightness button....it will turn the screen off but keep the PSP running.

I wish I could use the pointer to scroll across the screen instead of having to use the D-pad.
I actually learned how to do this. Just hold down the square button and you can scroll around the page with the analog stick.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / PSP Firmware 2.0 available...

This works fine on U.S. PSPs? Actually, let me rephrase that. Not only will it work, but will it be in English if it does work? From what I've read, yes, it does work. However, once you upgrade past 1.50 you're losing out on the ability to play emulation and homebrew programs. Oh, and if you want a web browser, don't upgrade. Somebody has already ripped out a browser out of another program and made it available to download. And unlike the built in browser (in 2.0), you get Flash support. I made the mistake of upgrading past 1.5 (before they got homebrew stuff going) long ago, so I have nothing to lose.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Prince of Persia DS - a tactical/card game
|
on: July 22, 2005, 04:09:47 PM

Definitely not interested. Please don't make Metal Gear Acid its own genre. Exactly what I thought. I mean, Metal Gear Ac!d was fun when I had it and played it . . . even with some pretty big quirks that I didn't like about it . . . but making the "card-based strategy" type of game into a genre isn't very appealing to me personally. Looks semi-interesting, but that's it for me. Phooey to you I say. I love MGA and am on the final boss battle right now. I could use more games like MGA.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GTA:SA X-Box question
|
on: July 01, 2005, 06:11:16 PM
|
|
I have been playing GTA:SA on the XBox after picking iit up recently. I play on a normal TV (no HD or even S-Video, for that matter). That being said, I really have a hard time seeing the little radar down in the bottom left or even reading the map which you can pull up. I have never really ever had a problem like this with a vidoe game before on my TV, but I don't think the games I have played have such tiny fonts and maps. Even the radio station names can be hard to read when I change channels. This is all viewed from sitting on the couch. Does anyone else have any problems viewing text and such with this game on a normal TV?

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [DS] Meteos and Kirby - 2 impressions for the price of 1

Is Kirby anything like Yoshi: Touch and Go? My wifes addicted to Yoshi, so I've been very tempted to get Kirby for her. Is is cute? She loves that. It is veyr similar to Yoshi, except that it goes above and beyond Yoshi in that there is level progression and bosses and such. Much more like a platform game than just an arcade game. Cute doesn't even begin to decribe the game.

Wow...this would so rule. I am sure it is for PS2, though, and I don't have one, which is dumb of me since I love RPGs. I just kind of got fed up with the load times on the PS2 and dumped it many years ago. If this isn't coming out in the U.S., someone should steal the idea and do something similar.

How many save slots does Canvas Curse have? If you mean Save slots, it has 3. How many if he meant save slots? Crazy. Somehow I missed the word "save" in his post. That is sad considering how short the post was.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Kirby Canvas Impressions
|
on: June 15, 2005, 04:51:26 PM
|
|
My impressions based on playing just the first little level last night. I enjoyed it immensely. I got all three medals for the first level and pretty much explored that one level completely after finding the balloon ability up in the upper left corner of one of the screens. It took me a few minutes to get a hang of the controls and I still feel like a little bit of a spaz when trying to do things quickly, but I am definitely getting the hang of it.
I read about two other modes to play the game in that sound like a lot of fun. One mode has you try to complete the level as fast as you can. The other mode has you try to complete it using as little ink as possible. I haven't tried either mode, but they sound like fun. With all the unlockables there are in the game, including 4 additional characters (one which you can unlock by beating the game with Kirby and the Amazing Mirror inserted into the GBA slot of the DS), plus the mini-games, I think this is going to be very enjoyable and kepe me busy trying to 100% it for some time to come.

I am also very tempted by this game. I think I might wait until Meteos comes out though. There are also a couple xbox games coming out soon that interest me, so this game is kind of stuck in the middle somewhere. I wish it had some kind of multiplayer since the one player game seems to be short. Anyway, may still pick it up, who knows. From what I have read, the single player is short in that you can bea tthe end boss rather quickly, but like all Kirby games, there is a lot to go back and do afterwards.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / No High def for Revolution
|
on: June 14, 2005, 04:48:06 PM
|

I don't buy Nintendo stuff for HDTV. Even if I had HDTV, I would still buy a Revolution. I buy Nintendo stuff because I think they make very original games that my whole family can enjoy. I have XBox for the more mature stuff and Nintendo for the fun stuff. I think the Revolution will be priced cheap enough that HDTV won't be an issue for consumers. The people that HAVE to have HDTV probably weren't Nintendo's target audience in the first place.

Comparable DS games are $40 so I guess that's just the way it is for now.
Actually, that's incorrect. DS games go for $30 pretty much everwhere (although I wouldn't put it past Gamestop to charge more). ExampleDepends on the game. DS games range from $30 to $40 and PSP games range from $40 to $50.

It's a shame you can't own them both. I like my DS and my PSP for differing reasons. That being said, the PSP sure is sexy. I have the same number of game sfor both systems (well, not counting GBA games), so I am okay with the lack of games some perceive ont he DS. You really just need to aks yourself what it is you are looking for in your handheld. I really like the touch screen on the DS, so if you want that kind of mechanic in your games, go for the DS. If you want a machine that plays games that look near as good as a PS2 and on a beautiful screen, go for the PSP.

Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / If you have Wipeout, you can use the PSP as a web browser!!
|
on: March 27, 2005, 06:21:12 PM

Guys, this isn't quite what you are thinking. Basically, he has a DNS server set up so that it resolves the IP web site Wipeout goes to to a web page of links that he has. So, you are only going to be able to do it where you have control over a DNS server (in other words, not at your local Starbucks or anything). It's cool and all, but not quite what I think a lot of you were hoping for.
