Wow, one guy posts negative impressions and everyone scatters.  If I compare these to all the positive impressions that I've read, this is just a drop in the bucket.

I'm probably getting Splinter Cell and Contact, but nothing is definite.

I tried playing a match and had no clue what I was doing.  I was on the non-spy team and I couldn't see anyone, which I assume was part of the game?  I just kind of ran around.  The graphics looked very nice, though.  I will be getting this one and not for the multi, though if it is good, that is a bonus.

wonderpug, that data is from july of last year! I'm sure that number is a lot higher than that now.

Microsoft is definitely pulling in some heavy money from Live no doubt, woudn't call it their "bread and butter" but certainly a good chunk of change for them each year. As long as people continue to pay to play and they always get new subscribers instead of losing them, why would they even consider offering live for free? Even if the PS3 online is 100% free (other than microtransactions), it doesn't effect Live at all if people are willing to keep paying for it.

But, what if people start choosing the PS3 over the 360 and one of the reasons is because of free online multiplayer?  Sure, they get money from their exisisting customers, but they don't get new ones.  Then, what if people who have both systems cancel Live because they perceive that they are being ripped off because they get free multiplayer on their PS3s?  There certainly are reasons for Live to become free.

What's the point of Live enabled MMOs if you can't talk live?  Or did I miss something?  The world seemed very sterile and empty, which doesn't work for me in this day and age.

I know the game is coming out on systems other than XBox 360, but I am not sure if everyone plays in the same world or not.  So, either there is no live chat because of that or just because it is a quick and dirty port.

The fact that there's never been any "real competition" and now there is a legit competitor (particularly if you feel the PSP is inferior) speaks well for the Playstation name. That's all...end of point. This isn't about which is better or the impact of the PSP on the DS.

But the DS is better, though. AMIRITE???!!!!11111eleventyone

Probably Phantasy Star Online beta.  Need to get back to Okami, as well.  I got distracted by travel and then haven't made my way back.  Also need to see if I can get back into Dead Rising, Enchanted Arms, or Test Drive or else they will be going to Gamestop for credit for Splinter Cell.

If I can't hit a small button with it how well will I be able to aim for a headhsot on a mooving target then?  I am not trying to be snarky or anything, just seemed odd to me that the buttons are so freaking humongous, it throws up red flags for me that precision aiming of the WiiMote may not be tremendous.

Nah, I catch your meaning and all.  I just think the UI isn't the place to test out the wiimote's precision.  From everything I read, you can certainly hit a headshot on a running target with the thing, but I don't think the UI is where you want to show that off.

Certainly not as slick as the 360, but people need to keep in mind that the reason the buttons are so big is because you will be using the wiimote to navigate.

Why do the buttons need to be big, I thought the WiiMote was gonna be super sensitive?

I believe it is, but do you honestly want to try to aim at a tiny button?  Think of the grandmas of the world. icon_lol

I recently gave up PC Gaming altogether.  I got tired of buying a new $400+ dollar video card every year and upgrading my PC parts every two years.  I have all the consoles, so I have no shortage of games and I find console gaming is usually less complex and involved than PC games, which suits being a dad and working.  Plus, it keeps from playing MMORPGs.  My current computer is only running a P4 3GHz Hyperthreading proc with 1G of RAM and a Radeon 9800 Pro (which just had its fan recently die).  Based on how I used to buy stuff for my PC, this is a very old system.  I think I bought all the parts in 2003.

There is, but I don't think it is a launch title.  I could be wrong, though.  It might be a launch windows title, though.

Still trying to narrow down between Tony Hawk, Excite Truck, Super Monkey Ball, Red Steel, and Rayman, besides Zelda of course.

I've wondered about that too.  I figured they would steer clear of songs that required heavy editing.

There is a radio-edited version of this song and it basically cuts out those parts.  I assume that is the version they will be covering.

7313  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime - yay? nay? I gots it? I wants it? on: October 06, 2006, 02:39:33 AM
I just got my 100th slime tonight.  I will of course want to get all the items and recipes and such, so I still have some work to do.  The one thing about the tank battles is found a pretty sure way to win tank battles:

Spoiler for Hiden:
I get a knight dude, go break into the other tank, and smash everything there.  Then, I return to the tank and help out with the items.  Even for the tank battles where they get my health down to zero, I just beat off the baddies until my crew gets theirs down to 0.  Then, I kill all their baddies in one go and run over to the tank and destroy it.  Once I figured this out, I never lost another tank battle.  The only tough one after that point was the one in the end realm where the opposing crew was all statues, because I had forgotten how to kill them, if there was a way.

Still, it was a very fun game and I hate that Gamespot knocked it for the puns, because it was very much a part of the charm of the game.  Definitely an easy game, but easy doesn't equate with bad as long as the game is fun and I definitely had a fun time with it.

7316  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Its-ah-me-ah, Mario vs. DK 2...-ah. on: October 05, 2006, 01:15:52 PM
I played through the first world and I like it as much, if not more, than the first one.  Yes, you can just blow through the levels, but the challenge is getting the Gold stars.  This is what Nintendo typically does, where they have the game be easy on a certain level, so that a kid could play it, but there is a layer of depth there for older gamers.  Nintendo are kings of this type of thing and it shows with this game.  I also tried the WiFi out and downloaded the map that was available from Nintendo.  My one knock would be that it would be nice to be able to access anyone's created levels, instead of only your Friends.  I then went back to Rocket Slime, since I am almost finished, but rest assured I will be getting back to Mario vs. DK 2 very soon.

Oh, I also like the touch screen controls for being able to control all the minis at one time.  I think it really allows you to manage all of these little guys at one time in order to get the gold.
7317  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [360] Sonic the Hedgehog demo available via Marketplace on: October 05, 2006, 03:03:39 AM
Man, that game controls horribly.  I really liked the graphics and wanted to like the demo (my son really wanted me to like it a lot to, so that I would eventually buy it), but unless they do something to those controls, the game is close to unplayable.  I did get a little better at it as I played, but you shouldn't have to fight the controls the whole time you play.
