It did, but I think it's not there any more because it's on by default.  Also if you have energy savings on you can NOT use 'Xbox turn on' because the system actually turns off when you turn it off instead of suspending to await downloads and voice commands.

What settings do you run with in that regard?

It was definitely a beta feature and definitely was shitty. Maybe they think its better with the new update?

I don't believe it changes the Xbox On functionality... I think its specific to game quick starts.

The description for Energy Saving Mode vs. Quick Start says that Quick Start enables update downloads, XBox On, and turning on your TV box.  Maybe someone who has it on Energy Save can comment on whether you can turn it on with voice?

I don't think that was the beta feature... it was something to do with game suspending.

Game suspending is a checkbox you can check or uncheck if you have Instant On enabled.  I could have sworn it said Beta next to it in the past.

When you say Quick Start do you mean the Instant On power feature?  If so, I have that on and haven't had any problems.  But I certainly never enabled any beta game suspend features and can't find anything about that in the Settings now.

I think it used to say Beta next to one of the options, but doesn't anymore.  I just checked the setting I am talking about and it is Energy Savings Mode vs. Instant On.  Having it on Instant On seems to lead to all kinds of issues which I have to resolve by doing a power down.  The things I have had happen:

1) Games crashing when I try to load them, even if I am not resuming them from a previous power-on.
2) Video not displaying.
3) Sound not happening
4) Miscellaneous other minor things.

I went to go turn the feature off and I don't see Beta next to the feature anymore.  Or maybe that was only on the 5.1 passthrough thing and I am misremembering?  Reading about turning it off and it will get rid of the XBox On feature, which I know my family really likes.  I'm torn between having this thing be easy for them to use and having to deal with all the issues that seem to come with it.  Maybe at the very least I will turn the game suspend thing off, but thinking about it, my issue yesterday with Killer Instinct wasn't like I had suspended that game.  I was launching it for the first time in a long time and it crashed when trying to start it multiple times.  Makes me think the Quick Star is the culprit.

Other XBO users...have you guys pretty much turned this feature off or do you use it (Quick Start).  If  you use it, do you have glitches like this?  I doubt it's the hardware as it seems like a very software-based thing.  Especially since a full power down seems to fix any issue I ever run into.

Obviously it's not the same clip but you can't just put it down to "different time of day". One of them looks the way the next gen should look and the other looks like the past gen.

One thing I noticed was that weird glow on the bridge.  I don't think that's a graphics downgrade...I think they're highlighting the bridge.  You can see a tooltip as they drive by labeled Bridge and I think it is showing you can interact with it.
47  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: March 07, 2014, 02:43:20 PM
I think I am finally going to turn the Quick Start feature off.  I know it's labeled as a beta, but I figured it would get better with each patch.  Instead, it has actually gotten worse.  Since the patch the other day, I have had two or three times where I turn it on and it just gets stuck and never turns on the TV/satellite/audio receiver and even when I manually turn them on, nothing is being displayed.  Have to power it fully down, turn it back on, and it works.  When I hear word that it is no longer a beta, I will turn it back on.  As much as people complained Sony didn't live up to their promise of suspending games across standby, I think they probably couldn't get it working right and instead of slapping it in as a beta, just kept it out until they can make it right.  I've had way too many times of having games crash when I launch them on the XBox and having to power down to get them to actually boot properly.  At least on the PS4, the Standby feature makes the console boot quicker and I have no issues with it.

Yeah the PS3 system was awful...especially since it had to update the entire firmware EVERY time, IIRC.

I'm not talking about the fact that you had to download a huge file and apply it every time.  Both the PS3 and PS4 let you know there's a patch out there and even if it didn't, as soon as they put the patch up, you can ask it to go grab it.  You can't do that on the XBO.  I have to wait for the fates to deem it's time for my box to go grab it.
49  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Xbox One Discussion on: March 05, 2014, 11:29:33 PM
The patching system these guys use is so dumb. It supposedly went up last night, but I have it on Standby and it never downloaded anything.  Major Nelson has this to say:

Quote
How do you get the new update? For the vast majority of Xbox One owners who use “Instant On” (the low power state that allows you to instantly power up your console by saying “Xbox On”), the console automatically checks for updates when customers turn it off. This means that once we’ve made the March update available (late tonight, Pacific Time), the next time you turn your console off it will take the update during off-peak hours in your local time. Ultimately, you’ll see it sometime in the next day or two.

Great, so I have to just wait and hope by box downloads this thing.  Meanwhile, Sony lets me know there's a new patch and you can't get online until you update.  They also have a Check for Update option.  MS really should go this route.

I tried shutting the box down fully this morning and booting back up and it didn't prompt me to update.

Back on the shelf for you, shitty online game I just want to play by myself.

that very much would probably be your connection or system.  Even on crap wifi on my gf's crap laptop it works decently.  On my main system it's smooth as butter.

Yeah, I was having Internet problems the other day and went through this, but on the days I didn't, I had zero issues and was nice and smooth.  It goes back to the old argument went this released of why you need to be connected to play a game in single player.  Can be frustrating if you just want to play but are having connection issues.

Yep.  You go to the Home Screen, highlight the app, and hit the button that you would associate as the Start button.  Then there will be a menu item to close the app out.

He was talking about upcoming games for Xbox One such as Titanfall, Watch Dogs, and Destiny. He goes on to say, "The only console you can play all three of these games on is the Xbox One." Now *that's* some manipulation of a phrase.  icon_biggrin

Haha. That's definitely some impressive bullshittery.

LOL!  Hey, he's not lying.  Let's spin that for Sony.  Sony PS4 is the only place you can play all of these games:  Infamous Second Son, Skylanders Swap Force, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Destiny, Call of Duty Ghosts, and Thief.  That's even more exclusive games!

Turtle, hope you have some handhelds or something to play while in the hospital.  I can tell you that even as a fit person, I have some regrets as well.  I run and exercise now, but back in the early 2000s, I had gotten up to 325 pounds.  Finally decided to take control of my life and lost weight all the way down to 190.  The problem there is extra skin.  So, I was fit, but wearing a shirt that was a little snug meant you could see all that extra skin.  So, even though I got fit, I still had to live with the product of being that large.  Then, I gained most of the weight back through the late 2000s as I let my work get the best of me.  Got back up to 290.  Then, I said enough is enough and lost it all again.  And that is where I stand.  Obviously still have the skin problem and I'm not the type of person to go get surgeries just for cosmetic things (and hopefully never have a surgery, period).

Anyway, if pills is the worst you have to do (and no matter what, it seems like the price of living into your 70s and beyond is to be on some kind of medication), I think you'll be okay.  Hopefully, when you get out of the hospital, you can turn that regret into something positive and get out there and live that healthy lifestyle you would like to.

I never know if things that happen to me are just normal or the sign of something else.  This past weekend, I had some Chinese food (and way more if it than a man should eat) and all weekend until Sunday, I was so thirsty.  I kept drinking tons of water and my lips always felt dry and couldn't quench my thirst.  Peed a ton, but I drink water as my only drink (oh and OJ in the morning) and if I drink a ton of it, I have to pee a whole ton.  When I went for my regular Sunday 8-mile run, the next day I was very sore, I think from just not having fluids where I needed to be.  All is fine now.  I do get cramps in my left calf from time to time, but I don't get them as often as I used to (maybe once or twice a month now) and I always just chalk it up to the fact that I run a great deal and exercise in some for every day.

It did make me swear off Asian food (which is my favorite) as it seems like lately if I eat a bunch of it, I'm just stupid thirsty the next day.

So... what's the deal with the Nemeses? I've got the full complement of 7 sitting in the village, from level 70 to 99. Do I just leave them alone until the party levels up to something in that range? For grins, I tried to 'Fight' one of them and it was a one-shot party wipe. Youch.
My Norende is filled with them.  The only impact they have is that my villagers appear to be in a constant state of panic running and screaming everywhere.  That's what they get for moving into a village located next to a sink hole to hell.

icon_lol  I tried fighting one early on and got my ass whooped, haven't bothered with them since.  I think they give a good chunk of XP, but that seems to be the only benefit.

I killed a level 10 one no issues, but tried a level 20 one and couldn't figure out how to damage the thing.

Lots of variety in locales and enemies already, and the game keeps tossing new skills and weapons your way, at least in this early stage.

Will be interested to see your opinion.  The first game was a lot of fun and the impressions I keep reading are that that game is better than this one.  I'm going to hold off until I get some opinions of people I see on this forum.

Sadly, split-screen is limited to a pared-down Garden Ops mode that's only playable offline, and player two can't earn coins or achievements. While it is nice that some sort of concession was made to even allow split-screen in the first place, it's a shame that the second player can't earn their own rewards or play online in general. With those options, Warfare would be a force to be reckoned with in terms of local play.

Also I think it's super dumb that EA went exclusive (timed at least) with this so close to Titanfall.  They could have done well on PS4/PS3 and not had to worry about eating their own sales with Titanfall.

Oh, well actually that seems actually what I wanted.  I hadn't read up on it and just made assumptions about how split-screen would (should) work.  If it's offline only for that, then this would be perfect for us to just play together and not have to worry about the typical downsides of playing online.

Yeah, I guess if you don't count Nintendoland, which are minigames with old IP themes, that's probably true.  Wii Party might be another one as well.  Again, more minigames.  Other than that type of game, though, Wii Music would have to be it.

My problem is that Titanfall is coming out and once that happens, I imagine this game will be mostly dead.  Part of me wants to get it since it has local co-op and I have a way to play with my daughter that isn't military dudes shooting people up, but I just imagine that finding matches will be much harder come March 11.  She loves PvZ, so it really would be perfect, but not sure about paying full price for a few weeks of fun.  I wish you could do matches against just the AI and with two other bots.  I'd probably be more likely to get it just to work her into this type of game and it would also alleviate the need to have others to play with.

I think if Nintendo went to an all-software company, they might be able to get away with trying to make some new IP, but the only way they're going to move systems is to have Mario, Zelda, DK, Metroid, etc.  Even that isn't working for them so much anymore.

I don't think this golem counts as a boss.  He's just a big dude on the overworld that you have to fight to get to the first city.  Honestly, I only tried fighting him once.  Could be that I could do better a second time, but the random mobs I had to fight on the way were tougher, so I do think I need to level a little.  It also doesn't help that I switched some guys to some new first jobs.
