The other point was that it is not the exact same green that's used in XBOX ads, so the fact that it is green may be a red herring.
8202  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Looks like the MGS4 360 port will be announced soon on: December 05, 2008, 03:06:00 PM
Doesn't seem to be consensus that is in MGS4 for the 360. Some people think the fact that it says "the next metal gear" implies it is a new game and that the exclamation points possibly indicate it is a new AC!D game. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

I haven't played any of them, but I read a thread over at GAF (sort of like staying at a Holiday Inn Express?) that discussed this very same question. The general consensus over there was Tales of Vesperia followed by Lost Odyssey.
8205  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Anyone know how to completely erase network settings on a 360? on: December 05, 2008, 01:43:53 AM
Ug, I just spent about an hour on the phone with xbox support trying to figure this out. The only thing we discovered was that if I unplugged the ethernet cable, it no longer thought that there was a wireless adapter connected, but as soon as I plugged the cable back in, it went back to thinking the wireless adapter was connected. They want me to try and connect my xbox directly to my modem, which would take some serious wrangling. What I really need to do is completely reinstall the OS, but they don't have any way to do that.

Only problem with WWI is that you're basically limited to rifles and (yes, they had machine guns, but they weren't really carrying them around). Doing MP with a bolt action rifle doesn't really appeal to me (and I haven't used any of them in WaW).

i thought it was only considered a decent movie when it came out.  i liked it and chronicles, but i really wish it had done well enough to warrant a sequel.  not sure how that would have panned out though, but maybe they could do a prequel or something?  further run ins with the bounty hunter would be kick ass.

efbb is a great part of the storyline and worth going through just for the intro (and ending too)

Have you seen the cartoon? That's the only part of the trilogy I haven't watched any of yet.
8211  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3]Uncharted:Drakes Fortune on: December 04, 2008, 06:35:28 PM
Just finished this 2 days ago. I think I agree with a lot the criticism here. I don't think it was a "best in gen" type game, but I enjoyed playing it, and the length felt right. I really wish the platform segments were extended, more like Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider, because they didn't feel that challenging or difficult, more like just part of the atmosphere. The puzzles were also way too simple. I felt pretty good about the combat - the cover system wasn't as well implemented as Gears (sliding to nearby cover, swat turns, snapping to the cover you intend to snap to), but useful, and you were kept on your toes with advancing/flanking enemies and destructible cover. Weapon selection was good, and while I wanted to run around shooting the grenade launcher, the restricted access to the heavy hitters like the magnum made sense.

Regarding the Spaniards - I didn't have a tough time killing them (shotgun from the hip worked great), but their presence just kind of made me roll my eyes. I feel like the same basic premise has been used over and over and I wish developers would come up with something new.

Overall I enjoyed the game - I don't really feel the need to go play it again on hard, but I'm interested in the sequel.
8212  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Next Gen Chronicles of Riddick still coming? on: December 04, 2008, 05:51:39 PM
I got about 2/3 through on the Xbox and got very frustrated on a part where you had to do a lot of hand vs. gun combat, so I traded it away. I'm definitely planning on getting this at some point because I would like to see the story play out. Hopefully I'll do better this time. That reminds me, I picked up the Riddick trilogy for about $10 a little while back and I still need to watch it (seen Pitch Black already and some of Chronicles).

I just checked this out on the 360 at work. There's a 'Restore to Factory Defaults' option on the network configuration page's advanced settings tab. I haven't it used it myself, but that might just do the equivalent of a delete. To get to that option access: 'System Settings' > 'Network Settings' > 'Configure Network' > 'Advanced Settings'.

Yeah, that's the link I tried and it didn't seem to do anything. I'll try it again.

Well, considering you'd have to keep the gas chainsaw running for it to be any use, the electric is probably a bit more stealthy.
8219  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: BC PS3s - Still in the Wild? on: December 02, 2008, 07:00:43 PM
I played God of War 2 before I packed away my PS2 (PS3 took its spot) so the only PS2 games I have remaining in my collection that I haven't played (and want to) are Ico and MGS3. MGS3 is definitely the problematic one because it prevents me from playing MGS4. So I really hope they come out with the software BC or I may wind up slapping the old PS2 on to one of my SD sets. As it doesn't have any widescreen options, it would probably look better that way anyway.

I think I tried doing setup again - it didn't ask about the network settings. I hadn't thought about removing the HD. Can you go online without any memory attached? I know before I had my HD I had a memory card plugged in always.

8222  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Anyone know how to completely erase network settings on a 360? on: December 02, 2008, 02:57:36 PM
I am having a really weird problem with my 360. All of a sudden when I go into network settings, the console thinks that I have a wireless adapter connected and is attempting to connect via wireless. I did, many months ago, have a wireless adapter, but I have been using the wired connection since then.

If I connect, it generally seems to figure out that I am wired and not wireless, but not always. It also has the SSID of my wireless network stored, and shows that it's trying to connect to it.

What I'd like to do is completely wipe out the network setting so that it has no knowledge of my SSID and set up the network settings again. Any idea how to do this? There is a "return to factory settings" link under the advanced settings tab in the network prefs, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

I hope the stealth aspects aren't whole stealth based segments, as those can get annoying.  Instead, it'd be nice to be able to sneak as part of normal gameplay instead of every encounter involving shooting.  It was impossible to avoid combat in Uncharted 1 except with maybe the first guy that you ran up behind.

I'm playing it for the first time right now (about 80% complete) and am really confused by the mention of stealth kills in the manual and in the trophies. I have yet to be able to sneak up on anyone. There are a few cases where you can see the enemies before they see you and you are presented with a lot of cover, but no matter how hard I try, I am always spotted at some point when moving from cover to cover or even when just hiding. One time I wound up walking up behind a guy in an archway, and he even managed to turn around and spot me before I could get up right next to him.

My big thing when I went to visit my grandparents down in Florida when I was in grade school was to get whatever seasonal special (they had a summer special, whatever, that was a compilation of past material) was out and read it on the plane. Sometimes I was able to get the previous season special and then the new one for the ride back up. I never got the individual issues, but friends did.

Not sure if Cracked is still around in print but their website is very popular.

I wouldn't be surprised if Valve steps in when they are complete to have some control over it if it's of a decent quality.

I've seen a lot of speculation on that and on the surface it seems justified given their history with modders.  However I read that at this point something like 100 people or so have contributed to Black Mesa Source so that might make things a bit murky in who you have to compensate/get permission from to make it "official".

Well I want to play it on a console, so they better work that out smile

I do have a newb question about this, though:

Quote from: wonderpug on November 26, 2008, 04:39:06 PM is the place to go.  Just buy a regular HDMI cable for $5.  If you need to run separate audio cables, either shave off a little plastic from your existing A/V plug to make room for the HDMI cable, or buy a $3 extender thing from ebay.  Don't let Microsoft bully you into a $40+ purchase just to get around their stupidly placed ports.
I see the HDMI input on the Xbox 360. Once I get the cable from monoprice, will the HDMI provide sound to the TV (I'm not sure exactly what you meant by separate audio) or will I only have sound if I get the extender or shave the plastic? Thanks.

Correct, HDMI carries audio and video. You would only need separate audio cables if you were sending the audio to a separate receiver or something.
