So here's my $60 question - if I couldn't really get in to Oblivion, should I bother trying this, or is it significantly different? I'd say the things I didn't like about Oblivion were:

1) the combat - melee combat with one single swinging move, so it relied mostly on your weapon and stats and not on your skill (as opposed to say, God Of War style combos and evasion)
2) too much exploration - you could go into a lot of large dungeons that had no purpose other than to provide loot

I'm not judging the game, mind you, just saying what fits within my playing style. Is this basically Oblivion with guns or something different?

well, it is already somewhat budget priced - $37 plus you get BK1 if you preorder.

Put me in the camp of people who think that this season hasn't been as good up until this episode. It seemed like they were trying too hard to come up with gags akin to the "crazy-hot scale" and so on and they were just falling flat. Big Bang Theory started slow in its first season, became very funny, and has continued consistently this season.

Demo is out on Live. Kind of short but lets you try a lot of the weapons and play with the deformable terrain. I'm intrigued.

The one thing I was a little concerned with was the lack of feedback when shooting the enemies and the way they blended in with the environment.

No, none of the 40GB versions have backward compatibility.  The 60GB version has hardware BC, and the old 80GB version has software BC (which supports less games than hardware BC).  The 80GB version that is now being released has no BC. It's very frustrating for people contemplating a purchase in the near future (like myself) who want BC.

I'm cranky today, so you get my English lesson, Teggy.

Less is used when you're talking about an unquantifiable amount.  For example, "Less Filling."

Fewer is used when the quantity can be defined with a number.  For example, "Fewer calories"  or "Fewer games."

There is a site to check compatibility (http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus), but, yeah, you're out of luck with the 40GB.

Well maybe he was just saying it was hard for him to do. I'm not crazy fan here. I don't know who does what voices. I didn't even see whatever interview it was (or wasn't, as it were) said in. I heard the story from a friend that's a far bigger fan of the show than I am. It's a fun show. I watch it on DVD. That's about where it stops. I've never actually seen an episode on cartoon network. I work nights, when the show's being aired so I had to catch season 3 on the adult swim website.

I thought you might like to know at some point someone said they might bring back a similar character. Sue me  Roll Eyes

I loved the bit in one episode where they describe him as the guy who sounds like Ray Romano. The perfect solution would be to get Ray Romano to voice a new henchman.

Are you friendly with anyone in HR or do you know anyone in HR? My office has 1 mens room and 1 womens room that have about 6 stalls each, and then 2 unisex bathrooms that are handicap accessible. These latter 2 I like to call "the dump rooms" and are the type this guy should be using so as to have some privacy and not offend.  One day I went into one of the dump rooms and someone had left their used tampon on top of the TP dispenser. Seriously. I didn't want to deal with it so I went on my way. The next day, there was a sign up in that bathroom that said "please remember to clean up after yourself when you use the bathroom". So someone told someone about it. You need to find the person willing to tell.

well, looking at the episode list, I guess sealab devolved pretty quickly.  The early episodes were pretty coherent, like the one with the kid from the make-a-wish foundation and Debbie interviewing people to father her baby, but then you got in to stuff like the Bizarro episode and the one where the captain is playing golf through the station. That stuff was funny at times but often had me shaking me head.

Brak went bad when they changed the Mom's voice. That was really jarring.

X-Play skewered it and gave it a 2 out 5, saying you were better off saving your money and watching the cutscenes (which they found to be the best part of the game) on Youtube.

They showed onscreen that the last level's bonus goal was "default text". KD, was that in your copy? I am wondering if that was in the final release or just their review copy.

I was definitely pleased by the outcome of last night's game, but I can't say I was impressed by the Dallas defense. They are still making a ridiculous amount of stupid penalties and seemed unable to make a tackle at times. The amount of pressure they put on McNabb definitely improved as the game went on, but I have concerns. Offense and special teams look good.
8067  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: NFL Week 2 on: September 16, 2008, 02:03:29 AM

Quote from: Gratch on September 15, 2008, 08:48:22 PM

I read Ender's Game recently, and wasn't terribly impressed.  I found it extremely repetitive (Ender challenges tough guys.  Wins.  Gets matched against tougher guys.  Wins.   Gets matched against even tougher guys.  Wins.  Rinse, repeat.), and although the big reveal was cool, I was basically bored out of my skull by that point and didn't really care.  I also found it very off-putting to treat the 8 year old protagonist like a fully mature adult.  I know he was a child prodigy, but some of Ender's internal monologues would have challenged 60 year old nuclear physicists, much less the mind of a child.

I have to agree. When I read it a while ago, I couldn't help think it would have worked a lot better as a short story with a twist ending.  And then I found out it had been.
8075  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Venture Brothers....going downhill? on: September 15, 2008, 06:52:51 PM
I actually really liked the flashbacks, even though at times I couldn't remember if the stories were contradicting themselves (I thought there were a bunch of things that happened when Rusty was in college that didn't fit in with last season but I would have to go back and watch the older episodes to be sure). I thought the Quizboy/Phantom Limb origin show was fantastic. The season did have a different feel to it, I will admit, but I fully enjoyed it.

After 3 seasons, the show has managed to stay pretty much on track, as opposed to shows like Brak and Sealab, which once had plots and then turned to nonsense when they seemed to run out of ideas. ATHF, which was never really about anything in the first place, has even slipped into this mode.

And yes, Metalocalypse is genius.
8076  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What size TV do you play the Wii on? on: September 15, 2008, 06:12:26 PM
32" LCD HDTV with component cables and it depends on the game. Metroid Prime 3 looked great, Godfather looked pretty muddy. Resident Evil 4 looks kind of muddy. Progressive mode on Eternal Darkness (Gamecube) actually looked pretty good. Unfortunately I got my tv after I played Super Mario Galaxy, but I've heard it looks quite good.

8080  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Let's talk about "The Bunt" on: September 14, 2008, 10:08:57 PM
It kind of depends, but that's fairly accurate. The sacrifice bunt is still used in the MLB, but it is usually reserved for players in the lower spots of the batting order. The pitcher will just about always do it in 0 or 1 out situations, and you'll sometimes see a #2 batter do it late in the game when a single run is needed to go ahead. Generally, it's considered a waste for 3-4-5 hitters to bunt because of their hitting ability.

In obvious bunting situations, the batter will put the bat out right away, most often when it is a pitcher.  The cases when the batter puts the bat out at the last second is usually when trying to reach base on a bunt single, rather than making a sacrifice, or perhaps during a suicide squeeze (when there is a runner on 3rd attempting to score).
