You can see a bunch of shots of the old characters here

Valve's Chet Faliszek (known in the industry as just Chet) explained that the redesigns came from the responses of play testers having trouble telling their fellow players apart in the fray, which is pretty important since you might otherwise shoot them

I certainly haven't played this game, but that sounds a little odd. They would mistake the grizzly biker guy with a girl? The old army guy with a black guy?

Yes Feast for Crows, a guy named Lee reads it.....looking at preorder at Amazon can't see who reads the next one.....can only hope Roy makes a comeback.  If you ever listen to Dark Tower series the transition from Muller to Guidall is jarring but Guidall grows on you, Lee will never grow on me.

Nuts, I already have the audiobook - now I feel like I should read it instead.  I think I got the book with audible credits though, so I probably wouldn't be losing much if I never listened to it.

Enjoyed the reader of the first three books....this last guy not so much.  This was a much more painful transition than the Frank Muller to George Guidall one for the Dark Tower series.  The new reader for Clash of Kings just isn't that good IMO.

Do you mean a Feast for Crows? Yeah, this guy, Roy Dotrice (sp?) is quite good.  That's too bad that they lost him. One of the great things about the Harry Potter audio books is that Jim Dale did all 7. Little bit of trivia - a different guy does the British Harry Potter audio books.  Seems kind of silly, no?

Hadn't heard about this. Looks kind of interesting - some kind of mix between first person, over the shoulder and 3rd person. Although I wish they would just make another game like Everything or Nothing with an original story.

As for the Netflix deal, did they say if it was going to upscale?  I think the 'watch it now' stuff is mostly 480p, which will look bad on big screen TV's.

I was under the impression that everything over HDMI is upscaled...is that not correct?

It would be streaming from the internet rather than playing on a device via HDMI so...

It does have to get from the XBOX to your TV, though...

Just a little update on this, not that anyone cares smile  I have managed to get about 26 hours into the 37 hour total and the story has gotten quite good. As each chapter started for the first half I would get encouraged or discouraged based on the name. Aria - good. Jon-ok. Tyrian-good. Sansa-ok. RCN is switching to all digital in Boston, and the cutover date is 7/15, which I assume will be midnight tonight (could be wrong). Had to get a couple of simple boxes for the tvs that didn't have converters on them. If they put out some new maps, I'm sure we'll all come back, at least for a little while. If there aren't GTers around, with COD4 at least I feel you can comfortably play alone on team deathmatch. Playing BF:BC as a lone wolf, not so much, due to the objective-based gameplay and 4 person com limit. Although I have gotten more comfortable with it, because I can always go after medals and patches.

great review ...i have just finished the single player,i liked it,but did start to get a little pissed off near the end(but pretty much anything can piss me off these days)
Spoiler for Hiden:
having to run to those two bridges, take out two tanks and with half the whatever army firing at you,and having to do all that in a time limit before the U.S. army got to the bridges..argghhhhh

After playing that part a bunch of times attempting to do it the way the story seems to want you do it...

Spoiler for Hiden:
...that is, with C4, I took advantage of that fact that with the exception of the bits where you must clear out all enemies, the developers allow you to play the game however you want.  As it turns out, you can dash down the right side of the map, encountering 1 enemy on a rooftop that you need to take out, but almost no others, and reach the bridge. There is an enemy tank on the road right in front of the bridge, but the building to your left protects you. All you have to do is enter the building, where you'll find an RPG. Head to the roof and one or two shots to the near bridge takes it out, and then a long distance shot to the side of the second bridge, and you've stopped the friendly tanks. Now you can peek over the left side of the building and take out the enemy tank with a couple of shots, and you're free to move across the river.

Replaying the game on hard, I was able to use methods like this a number of times. The only really hard level was "Cash and Grab" (the one with the monastery), as you need to go very long distances to get to checkpoints, and they throw snipers, tanks and helicopters at you.

After playing quite a lot of the game, MP connection problems aside, my main gripes would be:

- helicopter controls in the SP being totally different than controls in the MP.  I don't understand why they did that.  They give you an entire helicopter tutorial in the SP and then you go to try and fly in the MP and you just crash.  And by "you" I mean me.

- Having to knife doors.  I spawn in a room in MP and I have to knife my way out just to get back in the battle? I"ve also now just created an opening the enemy can use to look into the house. Dumb.

- The respawn in SP. This makes finishing on hard a lot easier, but I don't really feel like I accomplished much.

- They don't use the d-pad at all in the SP.  Why not allow leaning?

and

Spoiler for Hiden:
The ending was poorly designed. You can destroy the Legionarie's helicopter long before you reach the helipad, but if you do, he magically reappears. That shows a lack of playtesting.

As far as the ways guns work in MP, I can't complain too much about that. You can't please everyone in a game, and any claim that something "isn't realistic" is just kind of silly. If it was realistic you would be incapacitated or dead at one bullet. There are probably some things they could improve, but I can at least understand why the guns and gadgets work as they do.

So, I found kind of a funny glitch in the SP yesterday. I was finishing up the final mission on hard, dashing through the second to last part, and I came across some swimming pools. I stopped to check them out because they seemed fairly detailed and out of place, and turning, I saw there was a gold box next to them. I triggered the box-opening animation, and literally right as it finished, I got killed. I decided I would go back the same way, but when I got there, I was standing there. "I" as in Preston - the character was hanging out near the pools.  He ran around a little bit when I approached him. After I continued on with the mission, my entire Xbox seized up, but I don't know it that was related.

Yes, you did get my tags tonight, but I got yours as well.  Bringing my total Teg-tags total to two.  say that three times fast.

Yes, but getting my tags is no major feat so I expect you will get them again biggrin  I actually didn't know I was getting your tags. I came up around a house and was facing the backs of two enemies.  I crept up on the closer one and it turned out to be you.

I forget who was watching me tonight, but there was a good representation of Teggy getting dogtags.  I saw a guy running down a steep hill (one you can get down but not up), so I dropped down to try for his tags. I of course overshot him, but he still didn't manage to see me, being instead distracted by Owain (or was it Pug?).  I was flailing away, and finally got him, but in the process my teammate got shot.  Now, I could have just shot him and it would have been done with, but dogtags make you get greedy - well, they will for me at least until I get 50.  It's a pathetic thing to watch, I'm sure. And I still have 30 to go.

by the way, here is a pretty good shot of a very poorly chosen vehicle attack over a bridge during that match on Harvest Day.

Had a few good rounds tonight, picking up a bunch more medals, including the 3 objectives in one round. I was a little late in getting to Hark's invite, so I wound up opposite him on a bunch of rounds.  I can't remember which map it was (maybe Ascension? Either that or Over and Out, I think), but I was subject to the most brutal steamrolling I have experienced in the game so far. I couldn't believe how quickly they took the entire map. But no matter, I got Hark's dogtags later on on Harvest Day biggrin

Woohoo! I finally got my "Be the best" achievement/"High Card" trophy, and it was totally legit. It was a 500+ point effort that included two crate destructions. I almost had the last one, too, which is a shame, because it would have been worth two trophies I haven't gotten yet.

Something definitely seems glitched with the avenger trophy, as I have gotten the wildcard for 50 avenger trophies yet I don't have the actual trophy yet.  I also haven't gotten a single savior trophy, which seems a little odd.  I look at Hark's trophies and he has the savior and avenger trophies, but his savior wildcard shows he has 0 savior trophies.

Looks like they have made some improvements to the stats site.  The "My Photos" tab now shows up and you can view your photos.

Also, if you look at patches and wildcards now, it shows the additional criteria you need to get the award, not just the IAR criteria. It doesn't show your current progress, however.

At around noon I stopped being able to sign in to the EA servers on Live - not everyone was having the problem and I don't know if it's fixed yet.

To honor independence day, your requirement for this weekend is to only play as Americans. So if you are playing Battlefield and you come up as Russians or middle-easterners or whatever, you must immediately quit your game. Same for COD4.  You may not play Gears of War, God of War, Age of Conan, World of Warcraft or any other game where your character is not an American. GTAIV is OK. MLB is OK. Pretty sure those Hot Shots Golf characters are Japanese, so that's OUT.

If you are Canadian you can play whatever the heck you want.

OK, I am playing on PSP, but I'm guessing a lot is the same? In the training area, it shows each attribute with a thick orange bar and a thin blue bar.  At the top of the page there appears to be a legend that says that orange means declining and blue means stabilized.  But I can't figure it out. One time I trained my vision, which seemed to make that orange bar longer, and then immediately trained my contact, which made that orange bar longer, but then the vision bar looked like it had gotten short again. Anybody understand how that works?

The thin bar is the progress to the next point, if it's red/orange the skill is atrophying and the bar is moving to the left to drop a point, if it is blue the skill is improving and moving to the right to gain a point. When you invest in a skill and the bar goes from long to short, it's because you are gainging a point and starting the progress to the next point, just like XP in an RPG. That's my understanding. I'm playing the PS3 version and it doesn't exactly the same, but I am guessing you have colors mixed up or something in your description. Any time I had an orange bar and invested in it, it went back to blue.

As far as your example, the skills have related skills that go up when you raise the other skill, though vision and contact shouldn't related. From memory on the PS3 version Contact LHP and Contact RHP are related and Batting Vision, Discipline and Clutch are all related.

Well in the PSP version, the thick bars are all orange, and all of my thin bars are blue.  There is a page that lists "stabilized" for all the skills.  I am guessing the thin blue bar will turn orange if it starts decreasing, but the thick bar is just always orange. I think what I was seeing with the bars moving up and down was my blue bars leveling up and becoming short at the start of the next level.  I just didn't realize what was going on.

So yesterday I finished out spring training for my player on Veteran.  I really got the hang of hitting and was way above expectations by the end of the schedule, and I played a full game almost ever day. I was offered a contract for AA, but then everything changed.  I only play once every few days, usually at my backup position (I am 2B/SS), and I am horrible at hitting AA pitching. I only made one of my first set of advanced goals. Do they take it easy on you in spring training?
