dude, you know how it works, no matter what they do you've always done something worse.

sadly true.  even if the thing you did you don't remember.  or worse, don't remember her way.

milk this for all it's worth now teggy as you won't get a long time to use it.

Last night when we were in bed I jokingly suggested that she should go get me a bottle of water because she broke the microwave and she went and got one. That's probably all I'll get. And her birthday is on Monday and I'll probably underdeliver and that will definitely be the end of that. biggrin

7483  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Wives do the darndest things... on: December 09, 2008, 01:58:32 PM
I was playing COD with GT people last night and was getting ready to stop, when I heard some kind of commotion upstairs in the kitchen. Wife comes downstairs and says, "oh good, the spare microwave is still there" (wife had a smaller microwave from before we moved in together and had considered giving it away to a friend at some point). OK, now it was obviously time to finish up. I muted and asked her what was going on - the microwave wasn't working.

My wife is into crafts, and decided she would save money on gifts for friends by making them some kind of candle in a glass thing, which required molding this gel wax. The wax has to be heated up so you can mix color in. I asked how the package said to heat it up, and she says that it says to do it on the stove, but doesn't say not to do it in the microwave. Well, she used the microwave and the microwave is now dead, very warm to the touch like all the insides were burned out. So, I'm annoyed, because now this cheap gift idea is now way more expensive than had she bought them pre-made, but I can't really blame her if the package didn't warn against using in the microwave.

So I go about my business and a little later walk into the living room where she's working on stuff and she's giving me this "I'm really, really sorry" look. I ask what's up now? She says that she thought that the 2nd column of directions were the spanish version of the directions. I ask what she means and pick up the package. At the very top, in bold letters it basically says don't ever use the stuff in a microwave.

7485  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What is the true story on Xbox 360 and Blu-Ray? on: December 08, 2008, 05:20:28 PM
I think the value for MS is that every blu-ray add-on for a 360 could be one less PS3 sold. That wouldn't be the case in reality, but it would apply in some cases. With Netflix and Media PC connections, I don't think that MS thinks that the 360 is purely a gaming machine.

I am curious if Blu-Ray is going to be the next DVD. (I hope so because I have bought some of them). It's a little different from DVD because adoption will require both the player and an HDTV. If I cared more I would look up how sales have been. smile If it does become the new standard for home video, one would expect the next XBOX will have one as the primary drive.

There is an article on Digg now about 400GB and terabyte Blu-Ray in the works, so they look to be future proofing the format, which is good. Although I don't know how many other players other than the PS3 will be able to play the bigger discs.

Wow, I didn't even realize that because Atlanta lost to the Saints, an NFC team, their conference winning percentage dropped below the Cowboys, who lost to the Steelers, and AFC team. So in losing, the Cowboys actually temporarily secured a playoff spot. But they pretty much blew it completely anyway, because it will take a minor miracle for them to beat the Giants and Ravens.

Sunday is supposed to be 25 degrees with about a 60% chance of snow.

I can't make a rational pick in a Cowboys/Steelers game right now. I'd love for the Cowboys to win, but I can't say I'm not worried.

New England is getting all NFC east/all the time today, with the Giants/Philly, Cowboys and Skins games.

Why oh why am I playing this game on hardened? I believe I spent an hour (no exaggeration) this morning doing just the last checkpoint on the flamethrower level. I don't know why I wouldn't give up - I just didn't want the game to beat me. And the difficulty level is so uneven - the early sniper level was a pain, the flamethrower level a big pain and then the later tank level was really easy.

The other point was that it is not the exact same green that's used in XBOX ads, so the fact that it is green may be a red herring.

But it's clearly the 360 power button.  Anyone trying to say this is anything but a MGS 360 announcement is a delusional PS3 fanboy.

smile well but there is no exclamation point in the 360 power button and the same power button symbol exists on every console. I'm not saying it can't be MGS4 for the 360 (I would probably buy that version instead of the PS3 if it had extra content - don't suppose they want to come out with a version of MGS3 for the 360 too?). I just don't want people to feel disappointed if its not smile

Doesn't seem to be consensus that is in MGS4 for the 360. Some people think the fact that it says "the next metal gear" implies it is a new game and that the exclamation points possibly indicate it is a new AC!D game. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Ug, I just spent about an hour on the phone with xbox support trying to figure this out. The only thing we discovered was that if I unplugged the ethernet cable, it no longer thought that there was a wireless adapter connected, but as soon as I plugged the cable back in, it went back to thinking the wireless adapter was connected. They want me to try and connect my xbox directly to my modem, which would take some serious wrangling. What I really need to do is completely reinstall the OS, but they don't have any way to do that.

Only problem with WWI is that you're basically limited to rifles and (yes, they had machine guns, but they weren't really carrying them around). Doing MP with a bolt action rifle doesn't really appeal to me (and I haven't used any of them in WaW).

i thought it was only considered a decent movie when it came out.  i liked it and chronicles, but i really wish it had done well enough to warrant a sequel.  not sure how that would have panned out though, but maybe they could do a prequel or something?  further run ins with the bounty hunter would be kick ass.

efbb is a great part of the storyline and worth going through just for the intro (and ending too)

Have you seen the cartoon? That's the only part of the trilogy I haven't watched any of yet.
7513  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3]Uncharted:Drakes Fortune on: December 04, 2008, 06:35:28 PM
Just finished this 2 days ago. I think I agree with a lot the criticism here. I don't think it was a "best in gen" type game, but I enjoyed playing it, and the length felt right. I really wish the platform segments were extended, more like Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider, because they didn't feel that challenging or difficult, more like just part of the atmosphere. The puzzles were also way too simple. I felt pretty good about the combat - the cover system wasn't as well implemented as Gears (sliding to nearby cover, swat turns, snapping to the cover you intend to snap to), but useful, and you were kept on your toes with advancing/flanking enemies and destructible cover. Weapon selection was good, and while I wanted to run around shooting the grenade launcher, the restricted access to the heavy hitters like the magnum made sense.

Regarding the Spaniards - I didn't have a tough time killing them (shotgun from the hip worked great), but their presence just kind of made me roll my eyes. I feel like the same basic premise has been used over and over and I wish developers would come up with something new.

Overall I enjoyed the game - I don't really feel the need to go play it again on hard, but I'm interested in the sequel.
7514  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Next Gen Chronicles of Riddick still coming? on: December 04, 2008, 05:51:39 PM
I got about 2/3 through on the Xbox and got very frustrated on a part where you had to do a lot of hand vs. gun combat, so I traded it away. I'm definitely planning on getting this at some point because I would like to see the story play out. Hopefully I'll do better this time. That reminds me, I picked up the Riddick trilogy for about $10 a little while back and I still need to watch it (seen Pitch Black already and some of Chronicles).

I just checked this out on the 360 at work. There's a 'Restore to Factory Defaults' option on the network configuration page's advanced settings tab. I haven't it used it myself, but that might just do the equivalent of a delete. To get to that option access: 'System Settings' > 'Network Settings' > 'Configure Network' > 'Advanced Settings'.

Yeah, that's the link I tried and it didn't seem to do anything. I'll try it again.
