The stats seem to be all messed up - this one says that I went 7-8 yet had 4 recons, and arty and a dog call. It's also seems to stop well short of where I was playing yesterday, and all the times (in the date/time) are "undefined".

An interesting (although coincidental) detail - the second shoe catches the American flag.

So I'm on this morning playing HC team deathmatch and Dome comes up. This guy in the room says "hold down your triggers and press x and the background picture will change". I think to myself, "no one will fall for that, right?" In a matter of 2 seconds, you see...2, 3, 4, 5, vote passed. Idiots.

Gone is the B, replaced by the hanging pair of Red Sox???  I don't even like them, but what the deuce??!

I'm not sure why they are calling them "new". They've appeared on a lot of Red Sox stuff, like BP hats. They have also often mowed them into the field.

EDIT: I see, they are just saying the specific use of the socks alone (without words around it) as a logo is new. Basically they just unveiled some new road jerseys, one alternate which includes the socks on the cap. And they will use the socks alone as a logo more often.

I watched that whole thing happen.  I'm not sure what is worse: your aim, or the fact that I got so much amusement watching you empty a whole clip at a friendly, AFTER I told you who was up there.

Well I had my two best games ever last night, going 20+ kills and 6-7 deaths.  I Love me that MG42!!!

I spectated enough of your kills last night to come to the conclusion that you do best with weapons that require little to no aiming. slywink  Was it you or Hadron that shot an entire friendly fire MG clip at me on the second floor of Hangar and only nicked me once?

In any case, you may be interested in looking into using the Overkill perk to get a four rifle grenade loadout. smile

Hehehe that was Hadron.  I can't aim for shit though, that's the truth.  This gun is heaven-sent!

Wait until you get the FG (assuming you don't already). I put steady aim and stopping power and and just shoot from the hip, dragging it across in a quick burst. It seems to almost magically lock on. It needs to be reloaded more often, but you feel more agile carrying it and it has better sights (and you can get a sniper scope for it, which is crazy).

Many have commented on my ability to miss a target. I should have a lot more TKs. I'll often turn a corner and come face to face with a teammate before I realize it and squeeze off a few rounds, and somehow miss them.

Pug is too modest. In an early round on Dome it was 6 on 1 for a while, Pug being the one. We only barely beat his team.

As I recall it, we lost that round by 60.  That was because pug is such a ninja that it took us almost a full minute to track him down after all his teammates bailed and that went on for about three minutes before more targets started to drop in.  Heck, there are 12 people listed on his team for that match.

Wow, you're right.

Last night in CoD was a lot of fun.  We had a full squad but with none of our usual ringers; it was like being in B-Company.  While we didn't have any of the runaway wins we often get with Hark and Hellspawn on the team, I think we did win more often than we lost.

Oh except for tank maps: we got some runaway wins there because we're such tank whores.  Those were great.

Yeah - I've never timed it exactly, but they do stay for 15 seconds or so.

A bit of a philosophical argument here - does knowing about achievements change the game experience? . . .  I have never used a shotgun in Ravenholm.

Movies and older games have taught us that blasting zombies with shotguns is cool and/or fun.

In HL2 you're given a shotgun for the first time in zombie-infested Ravenholm with much fanfare.

You decided to forgo surefire fun with shotgun-zombie mayhem in order to get $25 Funny Money*.

Hey, chopping zombies in half with giant saw blades is FUN.

Yes it is, but didn't you have to babysit your sawblades at some points in the map, making sure you didn't shoot them out of reach or having to backtrack to rearm?  I just went nuts and had fun if there happened to be sawblades around and didn't worry about losing them, because I could always just break out my shotgun. slywink

With the exception of the co-op achievements, WaW doesn't have any online achievements. CoD4 had none. It's one of the things that kind of annoys me about those games because I have put in so much MP time. smile

7503  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] 1 year, 10,000 Gamerscore - an adventure on: December 10, 2008, 06:01:09 PM
So, I got my 360 between xmas and new year's last year and a year later now stand at 9550 Gamerscore. I would not describe myself as an "achievement whore" but I will occasionally go out of my way for some points. Since I'll be away for the holidays, I have about 2 weeks to get 450 points, which means I may have to pry myself away from COD5 and work on some of my backlog. We'll see, I may fall short. But I thought it would fun to go back and look at some of the achievements I got this year and whether or not they were worth it.

Tomb Raider Legend - Collect 5 Bronze Rewards (10)
I believe this is the first achievement I ever...achieved. I enjoyed this game quite a bit and wound up playing through it basically twice, once on normal and once on hard. But not because I had gone back to get the achievement - about 3/4s through the game my save got corrupted and I had to completely start over, and since the combat wasn't very hard, I decided to up the difficulty. The achievements I didn't get were mostly time trials, because I don't have the patience for that.

Feeding Frenzy - Andy Champion (10)
I got this game free with my console. I can't believe they are making a sequel. It seemed kind of like one of those in-browser flash games. I did get this achievement just because I wanted to have some return for wasting my time.

Crackdown - High Flyer (10) and Base Jumper (10)
Getting to the top of the Agency tower is a really fun thing to do, and I might not have attempted it if not for the achievement. But getting to jump off? Even better.

Call of Duty 2 - Veteran of Stalingrad '42 (60)
This is where I found out that playing Call of Duty on veteran just isn't fun. 60 points is a really nice reward, but just not worth it. I hate that they make so many of the points in CoD games for beating the game on veteran.

Kameo - Beaten Thorn (100)
I really didn't like Kameo, which surprised me, because it is definitely up my alley. But the game pretty much bored me to tears when it wasn't making me frustrated. You get 600 points for just beating the game, but I had no interest at all in going back for any other, most of which required you to replay the missions really, really well.

The Orange Box - Zombie Chopper (25) and The One Free Bullet (40)
A bit of a philosophical argument here - does knowing about achievements change the game experience? I attempted both of these achievements (which require you to get through parts of the games using only limited weaponry) on my first run-through. So I have never used a shotgun in Ravenholm. Although I will play it again at some point. Notably missing from my list is Keep off the Sand (20) which I attempted numerous times but couldn't manage. I doubt I will ever do Little Rocket Man (30) because it just doesn't seem like much fun.

Tomb Raider Anniversary - Medium Game (25) NOT
The game glitched and didn't give me this achievement or the one for finishing on easy even thought I completed the game  icon_evil

GTAIV - You Got the Message (20)
This is the one for getting all the stolen cars.  It just reminds me of how much time I spent traveling all around Liberty City.

Battlefield: Bad Company - Get the Dog! (20)
Anyone who played BC with me knows how much of an idiot I made of myself trying to get dog tags. This is the most Gamerscore I have for a single game, 900 out of 1000.

Too Human - Valkyrie's Folly (5)
This is the achievement for dying 100 times. I did it in one playthrough. Yeah, fun game  Roll Eyes

and similarly...

Call of Duty: World at War - Purple Heart (5)
You get this for dying 20 times on a single level, and I did it on the very first level I played. (It was on hardened, at least)

It's been a fun ride to (almost) 10K. We'll see if can get to 20K next year...

Did I tell you it was only a month or two old at the time?

The one thing that made my story not quite as bad was that I had had the microwave since 1997. So it had a good long lifespan.

Yeah, I guess I'm just too accustomed to games throwing in all sorts of twists that I'm just expecting them even when they're not there.  The one bit when you are in the circular room and you boost Elena up before the creatures start coming up through the floor, I was sure she was going to ditch Nate and run off to get the treasure for herself smile
7509  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: [PS3]Uncharted:Drakes Fortune on: December 09, 2008, 08:50:34 PM
Something I forgot to ask that I just thought about - did anyone get the feeling along the way that Elena might have been with the bad guys?

There were a couple of scenes that her actions seemed a little strange - one when she is out on the balcony and says she's going to stay there to check on some "things" and the other when she finally has to drop the camera - the camera seemed too important to her (although I can buy that if she is a reporter).

I had a feeling that the developers were going to throw some curves in.
Spoiler for Hiden:
Nate's friend still being alive seemed kind of obvious.
But I don't know if I was just looking for things when I thought Elena might be on the other side or if the intention was for the gamer to be unsure.

7512  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Wives do the darndest things... on: December 09, 2008, 01:58:32 PM
I was playing COD with GT people last night and was getting ready to stop, when I heard some kind of commotion upstairs in the kitchen. Wife comes downstairs and says, "oh good, the spare microwave is still there" (wife had a smaller microwave from before we moved in together and had considered giving it away to a friend at some point). OK, now it was obviously time to finish up. I muted and asked her what was going on - the microwave wasn't working.

My wife is into crafts, and decided she would save money on gifts for friends by making them some kind of candle in a glass thing, which required molding this gel wax. The wax has to be heated up so you can mix color in. I asked how the package said to heat it up, and she says that it says to do it on the stove, but doesn't say not to do it in the microwave. Well, she used the microwave and the microwave is now dead, very warm to the touch like all the insides were burned out. So, I'm annoyed, because now this cheap gift idea is now way more expensive than had she bought them pre-made, but I can't really blame her if the package didn't warn against using in the microwave.

So I go about my business and a little later walk into the living room where she's working on stuff and she's giving me this "I'm really, really sorry" look. I ask what's up now? She says that she thought that the 2nd column of directions were the spanish version of the directions. I ask what she means and pick up the package. At the very top, in bold letters it basically says don't ever use the stuff in a microwave.

7514  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What is the true story on Xbox 360 and Blu-Ray? on: December 08, 2008, 05:20:28 PM
I think the value for MS is that every blu-ray add-on for a 360 could be one less PS3 sold. That wouldn't be the case in reality, but it would apply in some cases. With Netflix and Media PC connections, I don't think that MS thinks that the 360 is purely a gaming machine.

I am curious if Blu-Ray is going to be the next DVD. (I hope so because I have bought some of them). It's a little different from DVD because adoption will require both the player and an HDTV. If I cared more I would look up how sales have been. smile If it does become the new standard for home video, one would expect the next XBOX will have one as the primary drive.

There is an article on Digg now about 400GB and terabyte Blu-Ray in the works, so they look to be future proofing the format, which is good. Although I don't know how many other players other than the PS3 will be able to play the bigger discs.
