I just finished up the Statue of Liberty, managed to not kill a single NSF agent.  Tranq darts and stun gun for the win!

I'm at the entrance to the statue but because of the following I can't enter:

Spoiler for Hiden:
can't read the text of the datapad I found on a crate so I don't have the username and password to access the security terminal at the door.

I've managed to advance to where I am without killing a single NSF agent. Otherwise the games running well and looks very good despite the hard to read text on my menus and dialogs.

There are other ways in if you are willing to try a different route. But yeah, not being able to read any text is going to make the game a bit more challenging. Sort of like that melee only run.  icon_lol

The few times I've tried to play DE I have tried to be more stealthy and up my electronics skills and stuff. In the interest of getting through the game this time, I was considering playing Gunther's way and just being a homicidal maniac with really good weapons skills.  Is there a downside to doing that?

They had a review on X-play last night or the night before and it was very funny to see Sessler begrudgingly admit that this was actually a good game. They gave it 4 stars. I've set it up in Goozex and figure I'll get it reasonably soon (there is no competitive MP, right? That will make it trade fast.)

7338  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Tomb Raider: Underworld on: February 25, 2009, 05:42:17 PM
I wound up picking this up 50% off at Circuit City and am partway into the Thailand level. I'm basically seeing what others saw with respect to the camera (both having trouble seeing where I am supposed to go and getting stuck in ridiculous stuttering views of the back of Lara's head) and the combat, but the platforming is exactly what I want in a Tomb Raider. The new rappel move is very cool and there are so many new realistic looking animations. The way Lara moves around when free-climbing and the way she walks down stairs (stolen from Uncharted, granted) often gives the impression that you're watching a real person.

One thing I don't like is that you can often see places in the level that you can't get to or aren't supposed to use yet. For example, in the Kraken room, you can see that there are a series of ledges on the upper level with a place to get down, and swing point on the ceiling to get over there. I figured that that might be a relic spot, so I spent a lot of time trying to get on to the top of the other side. Finally I gave up and found out that it was an area you visit on the way back, but I had no way of knowing. There was another similar area at the start of the Thailand level (at least I think it is).

And yeah, I'm sort of creeping myself out finding these videogame characters attractive  icon_lol I am having the same issue with Ashe in FFXII. Damn developers are getting a little too good. But I downloaded Lara's blue wetsuit, so I at least had to try it our, right? biggrin

NHL 09 EASHL league games.

Oh, interesting thought. There are definitely some hockey lovers in the group. What are the options there? Does everyone play on the same team? 2 vs 2?

Sweet.  Everyone plays on the same team.  You're player-locked into your own created player dude.  So the guy you'll have skating around on the ice for your team?  If his name is your real name, he'll have his name on the back of your jersey.  And when you score, it'll show your name.

You can (obviously) play up to six people per team.  You choose your position (center, left right wings, left right d or goalie) and play online against other teams.

All four of you can play.  The minimum requirement for you to be able to play an EASHL game is two.  So hey, if it's only you and a buddy that night, you can still play together.

It's really quite sweet and really well done.  You have stat tracking for everyone so you can see how many goals, assists, penalty minutes you've taken.  You can name your team and choose an existing team logo to use as your own.

Can you fill out the team with bots if you don't want randoms on your team? Can you also play 2 on 2 in regular games if we wanted to do that?

Seriously, I've played Uno with a number of GamingTrend members and we've had an absolute blast just sitting around, chatting, drinking beer, and playing cards, almost as if we were sitting in the same room.

I've had some fun playing XBLA Texas Hold-Em as well.  But Uno has always been a nice, relaxing distraction where you're able to chat with friends while simply playing cards.

Yeah, the Burnout Paradise challenges have been really good along those lines. We have played a little Uno too, but I think we are looking for something with a little more onscreen action.

OK, I guess this could technically go in multiplayer, but I thought it fit better here.

I have a group of buddies from college and we pretty literally live at opposite sides of the country (Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Austin). The one inexpensive way we try to get together is to arrange for time on Xbox live. One of the guys really doesn't like FPS (gets motion sickness), so our go-to game for a while has been Burnout (Takedown, and now Paradise). However, we are really looking for a change of pace and are trying to come up with something that is not a shooter or a racer. It should support 4 or more people, and while it can be competitive against randoms, being fun and only involving the 4 of us is definitely a plus.

Thoughts?

Yup.

I should try that some time. I like that HCTD is slower paced (you literally move slower, among other things that slow the game down) and I wonder if it feels the same way in CoD4.

I've seen nothing at all that indicates you move any slower, I think you might just be perceiving it due to the overall slower pace caused by the respawn timer.  Only differences in hardcore are the lack of hud, respawn wave timer, and health is reduced to 30 instead of 100.  People have ripped apart the data files to get all the numbers behind the scene and those are the only things changed.  Pretty sure movement speed is always the same, though weapons change it.  You do move a bit faster in COD4 compared to COD5 though.

For the record Hardcore in COD4 isn't very enjoyable to me.  The reason is that all the weapons in COD4 are so damned powerful, accurate and rapid firing that 30 health just isn't enough.  While normal mode is slightly over the line for realism, hardcore mode is just not as fun as a game.  COD5 hardcore is a nice compromise between COD4 normal mode and COD4 hardcore and part of why I like it so much.

Maybe what I am remembering is from going from CoD5 HC to CoD4 regular.
