Game's pretty fun, but I have 3 complaints

Experiences bona fide slowdown once on the first level, it was pretty drastic

Co-op games constantly pause and say 'Waiting on other player'.  The Live Party Chat also disconnects when this happens, so it's definitely some network issue.

Biggest problem is that if you download the Juggernaut pre-order character, you can't play with people who didn't get it.  This is complete bullshit.

In response to your 3rd complaint:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0002-0000-4000-8000-00004156082f

I think that's a video.

"Required to play with your friends in multiplayer if your friends have downloaded the Juggernaut playable character."

Same content is available on PSN.

Ah, sorry, missed that part.

I had a fun time with the demo. I think I will still plan on playing it at some point.

ABC Family is kind of a strange channel as it is. The name implies that the shows are family friendly, although it's more like "shows you should watch with your family and then discuss afterwards". And then if you leave it on past 10pm they show the 700 Club, which always causes my wife to dive for the remote. Apparently that is something to do with CBN actually owning the channel and ABC doesn't really want anything to do with it.

Well I have a whole bunch of old but good PC games that I have just sitting around if anyone is interested.

These are all jewelcase versions:
SMAC
Thief: The Dark Project
Hitman: Codename 47
Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Star Wars: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight 1: Jawa .5
No One Lives Forever 2
Myth: The Total Codex

I also have NOLF 1 + soundtrack in paper sleeves and some magazine discs that have Deus Ex: GOTY and Thief 2 on them - I have to check if they are both on the same disc or separate. I also have all of Rainbow Six 1 and 2 and expansions, but some of those are boxed and I also have the strategy guides, so I would want to consider what it would take to ship those. Same for Starcraft Battle Chest.

My wife and I have watched the first two episodes and while we think the show is funny, there is way too much sex/emphasis on sex for our tastes and will not be watching any further episodes.

I'll tell you the show you should definitely stay away from then - The Secret Life of the American Teenager. This is Brenda Hampton's followup to Seventh Heaven. My wife religiously watches a lot of bad TV on the CW and ABC Family, and I wind up witnessing a lot of it. Seventh Heaven got positively absurd the last couple of seasons and spent enough time of its own focused on sex, but it appears the characters on Secret Life spend about 80% of the time talking about who they have had sex with, who they want to have sex with or whether they should or should not have sex.

The one show on ABC Family that I will say is pretty decent is Greek, and I will tend to pay attention to it if it is on.

As far as Glee goes, I didn't think the second episode was as good as the first.

The kick returner did so many things wrong on that play - if he shouldn't be benched for not just getting the touchback, the fighting for extra yards should do it. What was he thinking?

7303  Non-Gaming / Hardware / Software Hell / Downscaling with a video card? on: September 13, 2009, 12:11:09 AM
I bought KOTOR on Steam and am using a hack to make it run widescreen. The game will apparently not run at a widescreen resolution less than 1440x900, but the highest resolution my laptop goes in 1280x800. The setup instruction for the widescreen fix says in my case to set the resolution at 1440x900 and then use video card downscaling to display the came correctly.

I don't see anything in the Nvidia control panel for scaling down, only how to handle things that are less than the current resolution.

Is this just something that is supposed to happen automatically? If it is, it's not working, because when I load up the game, it starts out ok, but when the game starts I see the screen shift and and the mouse gets offset from where I am clicking.

EDIT: well, there is somewhat of a workaround which involves setting the resolution of the game to 1288x805. I'd still like to know if the video card can scale the resolution down, though.

Did you use the disc after you installed to add all the drivers? That's how my Macbook was until I used the install disk and now it works perfectly.

Pretty sure I did- it has been a few months- I know I tried probably 10 times- maybe some of the updates have helped- I really should try again-and by install disc, you mean the mac one right?

Yeah - after you install windows and boot up you put the Mac install disc in and it runs another install process for the drivers. Are you using XP or Vista?

Have you played any of the Combat Mission games? It is turn-based and very much centered on combat tactics. No resources or tech trees or anything. The smallest unit is a 3-man team and generally the battles are company-sized, sometimes battalion-sized.

So, what about this then?

Quote
EA Sports' latest Madden was easily the best selling title for the month of August, racking up close to 2 million unit sales across its five SKUs. The Wii SKU, however, which EA put extra effort into redesigning with an all-new visual style and other Wii-specific features, only managed to sell 67K copies, The NPD Group has told IndustryGamers.

Makes you think I think - does this mean that people who own the Wii have other consoles of which to play Madden on? Or does this mean that people who only own the Wii aren't interested in games like Madden at all?

Maybe people didn't like the cartoony style. Madden is supposed to be a realistic football game.

I would love to play my PS3 more, but Live is so great I would feel left out if I bought a multi-platform title on PS3. There are good games on the PS3, but I always feel kind of "lonely" when I am using it, if you know what I mean.

That's because Live kicks the crap out of the PSN functionality.

While this is true, what does it matter with SP games, unless you favor one controller over another?  I found that Dead Space on the PS3 had much better sound than the 360 counterpart.  At least to my ears.  I actually find myself leaning towards the PS3 for more games now, as long as there's no MP component to worry about.  MW2 for example, would be a definite 360 purchase.

I have a couple of admittedly very stupid reasons why: 1) I'm not an achievement whore, but I do like achievements and I would rather build on my achievement total at this point than get trophies and 2) I like seeing what my friends (or "friends") are up to, and many more people play on the 360. Sometimes my friends want to pass a message or play an MP game, so that actually isn't that stupid.

I probably do like the 360 controller more at this point, even though I loved the DS2 at one time.  The resistance on the sticks just feels a lot better on the 360 controller, along with the heft. And I don't have a surround sound system set up in my gaming area.

They do have tater tots at Sonic - you have to give them points for that.

The other drive-in chain that I get to once or twice a year is A&W. Their food isn't that great, but the rootbeer you can get at the actual A&W restaurants is amazing. It puts the stuff they sell in the supermarket under their own label to shame.

I really wish they would open a Culver's nearby.

Recently a Culver's opened a few minutes from our house.  I haven't been there yet and no little about the franchise.  Any suggestions or direction to maximize my first visit?  We've got a Sonic, Carl's Jr., and Jack in the Box on every corner, so Culver's might be a nice change. But I'm curious what makes it stand out from any other fast food burger.  I've heard good things and just haven't taken a moment to give it a try yet.  But without a functioning kitchen (still waiting on countertops) take-out has become the standard lately.

Well, I only get to have it a couple of times a year tops, so I haven't been able to sample large amounts of the menu. The butterburgers are good and should be tried. If you like pork, the pork tenderloin is a nice change of pace for fast food places. I've also had the walleye sandwich but I really doubt they will have that in Arizona. The concrete mixers are delicious, and if you are a fan of a thicker crinkle cut fries, theirs are tasty. A lot of people will recommend the cheese curds, but I don't really like cheese so they're not for me.

They have a very varied menu and I'd like to try some of the other non-burger items. They even have a cheesesteak for you to be offended by  icon_lol

The restaurant, not the hedgehog.

54,000 customers in the first 10 days is pretty impressive. I've only had Sonic once or twice in my travels, and while I enjoyed it, I'm not all that interested in trucking up to Peabody and dealing with a crowd. I'll wait and see where they open the other locations they are planning on.

Wow, I finally finished a book. It's been a long time, and I'm trying to do some more reading (or audiobook listening).

I read The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold - It wasn't at all what I was expecting. I thought it would be more of a swords and sorcery affair, but it turned out to be a lighter "Song of Ice and Fire". It took a while to get going, and even then it never really hit full speed, but I enjoyed it enough. The sequel won the Hugo award, so I will be reading that next.

Earlier in the Summer I read Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's by John Elder Robison. I read this by request of a relative with a child with Asperger's, and it was quite interesting. Somewhat because it was educational, but moreso because the author just had a crazy life.
