I was afraid one of them would be Makin Day, so that's cool that they are all original. The second 2 would appear to be infantry only maps, the first I'm not sure. I think I overdosed on CoD, so this seems like a good reason to stay away and play other stuff for a month when I can come back refreshed and have some new content to discover.

And “Verruckt” really means "Zombie Asylum" in German?

7289  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Getting rid of old CDs and cassettes? on: February 08, 2009, 10:24:03 PM
I have boxes and boxes of old CDs that are taking up space. I can (and will) rip them, but then I am still left with boxes of plastic. I can deal with losing the artwork, because it's not like I ever look at it, and the information can be found elsewhere. And it's not like CDs will appreciate in value like some old vinyl. Cassettes - I can't rip them, but just about none of it is irreplaceable via iTunes.

So what have people done with bulk amounts of old CDs? Is there any way to get some value for it? Can they be recycled, at least?

Played through the factory last night. I forgot how much I enjoyed the simple puzzle-stealth bits. I'm also playing Splinter Cell Double Agent on the XBox, and it's fun to compare how different they approach stealth. BG&E is certainly a lot lower stress. Personally, I like the puzzle elements such as:

This should be pretty sweet.  Word is that there's only three maps, and there's a good deal of internet whining about that already.

Apparently there's also only three classes: infantry, rifleman, and scout.  All three are equipped with anti-tank weapons.  There is also unlimited ammo as well as "auto-health," which I assume means the system of health automatically recharging when you find cover.

thereby removing anything remotely tactical about the game, i.e. the support soldiers?

any word on commander features? or squads? And rewarding teamwork?

What? No one whose job it is to throw out med packs while others do the fighting? Well clearly I can't play this game.

while sarcasm is much approved of on this forum, it wasnt what I was looking for.

The idea is to encourage squad fighting, and giving them each a specific role to play, which again, as I stated above, gives the ability to reward teamwork...

It's not a Doom game, you know...

It was not really a joke about the game, but a joke about my role when we played Battlefield Bad Company and my lack of skills.

To be honest I haven't played with it much. I have a solid state amp so yeah, most of what I have managed to get out of is high gain, but not very warm. If I played metal, that would be great, but I'm more of an indie rock guy. As you can see, it has a bunch of stock Boss pedals built in (like the DS-1, which I had standalone prior) and them models of some other pedals. I probably won't use it much now that I have the POD.

That was my biggest (non framerate related) issue with Killzone 1.

I guess it is a valid gripe, but in something like CoD you fight against 1 enemy type the whole time. Killzone is a  sci-fi shooter, but not an alien shooter like Halo/Resistance/Gears where you are fighting against multiple species. So given the storyline I probably don't care too much.
7299  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: So...Killzone 2? on: February 05, 2009, 10:27:05 PM
Yeah, alternate 2 appears to basically be Resistance 2 controls, except for the way L2 is used (crouch and run in Resistance, crouch and cover in this). Also, from what I understand, looking down the sights is a toggle, rather than like in Resistance/CoD where you hold it down. I don't know if I will bother creating a European account (pre-ordered through Amazon) but I'd like to try it out.

For Standard 3, I assume you mean R3 for sprint?

R1 =Fire(fine)
R2=grenade(hmm)
R3=iron sights<<<hopefully this button especially can be changed

L2=crouch(err..)
L1=melee(well..)

O=heal team mates(fine)
X=Jump(fine)
Triangle=change weapons(fine)

L2 is also cover, correct? That kind of makes sense in that it is sort of the Kill.Switch method of cover. You have to hold it down or no?

But L1 as melee and R3 as aim makes no sense. That's the reverse of every other recent shooter. I know Resistance 1 had aim on R3 and I never used it because of that. They smartly moved it to L1 in Resistance 2. Hopefully you can swap those.

i personally think that the PS3 way of charging the controller is one of the things they(SONY) got right with the controller...no changing packs,just stick a USB from the controller to the console(although i do wish SONY would start lengthening their cables)

I hate the way they did it with the PS3. You can only charge while you are playing (unless you are willing to take the controller elsewhere and plug it into a computer or something) - the play and charge kit (as long as you don't break it icon_redface) lets you charge the battery while the machine is off or you can use the quick charge kit. And what's going to happen when the controller stops taking a charge? You'll be out $60 vs. $10 for a new battery.

EDIT: OK, apparently you can replace the battery in the PS3 controller but it's not quite as simple.

My contract is now up, and while I am an Apple fanboy, I am reluctant to get an iPhone until they make one with a keyboard (which may be never). I'm curious about the Pre, but really, since work will most likely not chip in for the phone this go-round, I'm not sure I'm going to want to drop $500+ on a phone. That is the one thing the iPhone would have going for it - if they bump up to 32GB I would be willing to buy it because I'd get a replacement for my old 20GB iPod along with the phone.

But even though we miss the NFL season, and figure skating is the typical indicator that the NFL season has come to a close, no other non-NFL football league has come even close to recreating the enjoyment we gain from the NFL.  It may be football, but it's not NFL football.

When is the demo for Killzone 2 due out?

I think it's today if you have the game preordered at Gamestop (ie: if you're predisposed to liking it).  If not, you don't get it until the day before the game releases.  Call me jaded, but that seems like a blatant attempt to control the potential negative fallout from the demo.

They've said the demo is coming at @ 5PM, but they neglected to say what region that is.  I haven't heard about needing to have pre-ordered.

I have heard that in US you have to have pre-ordered at Gamestop to get in on the demo. Europe is for all.

Why not just set the charged battery pack to the side of the kit? At the very least, you will use less power.

Well, that's what I am doing now, but if I leave it there too long it will start to drain.  I don't know what kind of "memory" these batteries have as far as using them when they are not fully charged or charging them before they are fully drained, etc.

And no, I don't believe the light goes out, because as the battery naturally lost charge it would have to start charging again. I don't know if it "trickle charges" like my phone does when the light is green.
7309  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [360] anybody use the quick charge kit? on: February 04, 2009, 09:42:15 PM
This guy:

I was wondering how long people leave their batteries in it? Is it bad to leave batteries in with the green light on for long periods? (weeks, maybe?) Currently I have 3 batteries and I have one in a controller and 2 charged but out of the kit. I figure when the first battery is drained I can put it in the kit to charge and use one of the charged ones, which hopefully will not have been sitting around so long it has drained. Then I can keep rotating. But it seems like if it is not harmful and it is not using much power, it would be best to keep the 2 not in use fully charged in the kit.

And just as a word of advice, the reason I wound up with 3 batteries was because I thought my original battery was dead, but what was in fact broken was my play-and-charge cable. I believe I broke it by winding it around my controller when I would stow my controller away. I believe I broke a PS2 controller the same way. So don't do that.

I just realized that while we all think Dawn of War 2 is pioneering a new style of RTS without base building and tactics focused, Myth did it first, albeit in a fantasy setting.

And if I remember correctly, didn't Ground Control do the same in a sci-fi setting?  I don't remember much base management.

Ground Control came out after Myth.  I loved that game, though, and mostly because it dumped all the minutae and was more story-oriented.

I've been thinking about dusting off Myth (I stumbled on the Codex version right before this discussion started).  I never finished either I or II (though I dearly loved 'em both for what I played).

Does Myth allow you to pause? I have (or had? I need to check) the Total Codex and tried to play a bunch of times but could never deal with having to scan across the map real time. I loved the fact that it was all tactics, no resource gathering, but I still couldn't handle the RTS part. Combat Mission is the only strategy game I have been able to play for a significant amount of time.
