Activision announced earlier today Guitar Hero Greatest Hits during their financial conference call. The game will be comprised of the songs Guitar Hero fans liked the most from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. All of these repackaged songs from the earlier games will be remade to work with all of Guitar Hero World Tour’s instruments. Guitar Hero Greatest Hits will be out sometime within the next two quarters for the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3.

Sat down last night and played a lot longer than I was planning. Finished up the Slaughterhouse and played up to the

is really effective.

Also got to play my previously mentioned favorite part, and it held up just like I remembered it. Very fun.

I think I have a bit over 7 hours logged.

Well, they revised the high down to 54, but that is still warm enough for a nice steady melt-off. We'll be getting back below freezing every day for the next few, which is supposedly good for preventing too much flooding.

And yes, my dog has left me quite the job in the backyard. I was able to go out a couple of times over the last month and pile up stuff so it will be easier to clean away, but it is going to be a vile mess.

Chicago style is the only way to eat a hot dog.  I thought I had eaten hot dogs until I went to Chicago and had one.  I quickly realized this is how they should be done.

Absolutely love Chicago dogs. However, since Nathan's hot dogs and sauerkraut exist, I can't deem them "the only way to eat a hot dog".

EDIT: Oh man, I just read that wikipedia article and am so hungry. So many hot dogs I need to try. (and Fenway Franks do not belong on that list. They are bland as anything.)
7291  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Fed Ex or PDP.com's fault... on: February 11, 2009, 09:06:19 PM
If Fed Ex screwed up after it left, I don't see how you can blame PDP as they would have no idea what was going on. It would seem that if this was a common thing PDP would have changed the packaging. Sounds like Fed Ex dropped a piano on it or something. The fact that they attempted to deliver a package that was damaged to the point of leaking is pretty stupid. They should have contacted the seller when that happened.

Now that is interesting - it's holds about 400 more CDs that I need and seems to be only sold in the UK, but definitely a place to start.

7294  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / The Herculoids was an odd show on: February 11, 2009, 06:57:46 PM
Was watching this last night on Boomerang. I can't believe when I was little this show seemed plausible. For example, in one show, one of the Herculoids enemies comes along and shrinks them down in order to have them fight some microscopic creatures. His reasoning being that if his microscopic creatures win, then he will shrink down the rest of the universe and enslave them. Nevermind that he could just shrink down the whole universe anyway, regardless of what happens to the Herculoids. Or he could have just stepped on the Herculoids.

In another episode, they catch a bad guy and put him in a rocket with big letters on the side reading "PRISON ROCKET". That was just kind of funny. Also, in the other episode, Mr. and Mrs. Herculoid are sleeping together under a blanket, which I thought was pretty progressive for a kids show.

I don't know, when I watch old episodes of Superfriends, it doesn't seem quite as far fetched.

I was afraid one of them would be Makin Day, so that's cool that they are all original. The second 2 would appear to be infantry only maps, the first I'm not sure. I think I overdosed on CoD, so this seems like a good reason to stay away and play other stuff for a month when I can come back refreshed and have some new content to discover.

7308  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Getting rid of old CDs and cassettes? on: February 08, 2009, 10:24:03 PM
I have boxes and boxes of old CDs that are taking up space. I can (and will) rip them, but then I am still left with boxes of plastic. I can deal with losing the artwork, because it's not like I ever look at it, and the information can be found elsewhere. And it's not like CDs will appreciate in value like some old vinyl. Cassettes - I can't rip them, but just about none of it is irreplaceable via iTunes.

So what have people done with bulk amounts of old CDs? Is there any way to get some value for it? Can they be recycled, at least?

Played through the factory last night. I forgot how much I enjoyed the simple puzzle-stealth bits. I'm also playing Splinter Cell Double Agent on the XBox, and it's fun to compare how different they approach stealth. BG&E is certainly a lot lower stress. Personally, I like the puzzle elements such as:

I think the one thing the game needs improvement on is the camera (the 3rd person camera, not the photo-taking camera). I definitely wrestle with it at times.

This should be pretty sweet.  Word is that there's only three maps, and there's a good deal of internet whining about that already.

Apparently there's also only three classes: infantry, rifleman, and scout.  All three are equipped with anti-tank weapons.  There is also unlimited ammo as well as "auto-health," which I assume means the system of health automatically recharging when you find cover.

thereby removing anything remotely tactical about the game, i.e. the support soldiers?

any word on commander features? or squads? And rewarding teamwork?

What? No one whose job it is to throw out med packs while others do the fighting? Well clearly I can't play this game.

while sarcasm is much approved of on this forum, it wasnt what I was looking for.

The idea is to encourage squad fighting, and giving them each a specific role to play, which again, as I stated above, gives the ability to reward teamwork...

It's not a Doom game, you know...

It was not really a joke about the game, but a joke about my role when we played Battlefield Bad Company and my lack of skills.

That is the first time I've seen one of those.  How do you like it?  Is it too much of a hard rock / metal pedal?

To be honest I haven't played with it much. I have a solid state amp so yeah, most of what I have managed to get out of is high gain, but not very warm. If I played metal, that would be great, but I'm more of an indie rock guy. As you can see, it has a bunch of stock Boss pedals built in (like the DS-1, which I had standalone prior) and them models of some other pedals. I probably won't use it much now that I have the POD.

That was my biggest (non framerate related) issue with Killzone 1.

I guess it is a valid gripe, but in something like CoD you fight against 1 enemy type the whole time. Killzone is a  sci-fi shooter, but not an alien shooter like Halo/Resistance/Gears where you are fighting against multiple species. So given the storyline I probably don't care too much.
7318  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: So...Killzone 2? on: February 05, 2009, 10:27:05 PM
Yeah, alternate 2 appears to basically be Resistance 2 controls, except for the way L2 is used (crouch and run in Resistance, crouch and cover in this). Also, from what I understand, looking down the sights is a toggle, rather than like in Resistance/CoD where you hold it down. I don't know if I will bother creating a European account (pre-ordered through Amazon) but I'd like to try it out.

For Standard 3, I assume you mean R3 for sprint?

R1 =Fire(fine)
R2=grenade(hmm)
R3=iron sights<<<hopefully this button especially can be changed

L2=crouch(err..)
L1=melee(well..)

O=heal team mates(fine)
X=Jump(fine)
Triangle=change weapons(fine)

L2 is also cover, correct? That kind of makes sense in that it is sort of the Kill.Switch method of cover. You have to hold it down or no?

But L1 as melee and R3 as aim makes no sense. That's the reverse of every other recent shooter. I know Resistance 1 had aim on R3 and I never used it because of that. They smartly moved it to L1 in Resistance 2. Hopefully you can swap those.
