Is it intentionally choppy so as not to show off too much? If so, it's annoying as crap.

well, you see, they called me up the other day and said 'Hey, CeeKay, we got this guy, Erotic Midorikawa or something like that, who we really want to annoy.  any ideas?'  so, I pondered for a moment, and replied, 'well, he loved CoD4, and is probably looking forward to your new trailer for MW2.  so, I guess if you really want to annoy him, you could make it really choppy'.  so, yes, it's intentional.

I found that the windows media version was really choppy, but the quicktime version worked great. Well, except for the fact that it stopped about 20-30 seconds from the end and wouldn't go any further.

Woo hoo!

The producer has already called and told me that the Dinosaur won by a landslide when the current votes were combined with the anchor/judges scores. I've been told to report to the restaurant tomorrow morning at 6 AM for the follow-up segment. Woo hoo!!

If I understand correctly, the segment will air tomorrow morning (Sunday, 5/24) at approximately 7:30 or 8:30 AM depending on your time zone and which of the 3 live feeds your local affiliate has elected to air. Check your local listings, I guess.

Thanks a ton to those who cast their vote on my behalf.

Will we be able to recognize you from your pale skin and somber attire?

OK, so we have:

1. long cutscene
2. switch to other location with 2 battles you can't lose (should have been a cutscene)
3. another cutscene
4. 2 meaningless fetchquests
5. more cutscene
6. ridiculous torch lighting "minigame"

I think the whole segment was about 45 minutes long with no ability to save at any time. Plus, they broke up a well done, emotionally heavy scene with a really stupid minigame (that I actually had to look up a faq on because it didn't seem to work right!). I am enjoying the game, but that whole part just really poorly done.

I thought you could go in the house and save at the upstairs save point?

You know, that's possibly true, I didn't think of that. When you first enter the house, you certainly are encouraged to stay on the ground floor, which triggers the start of this long sequence. The next opportunity would be at the start of the fetch quests, and I didn't think to try and go in the house at that point. I did actually try to run out to the port to save during the fetchquest, but it doesn't let you leave the area. If they had stuck the save point outside the house instead of upstairs, it would have been a lot less obnoxious.

Zappos.com is popular and they have a wide selection of Chucks. I'm not sure what price you are looking for. Standard high tops are going for $45 there.  I went through a ton of pairs of Chucks in the 90s and that's probably around what I was paying then.

Dinosaur BBQ and Nick Tahou's are probably the two central/western NY institutions I wish had taken the opportunity to check out when I lived up there.

This contest seems a little odd, though. Only 4 contestants, and none from Memphis even?

But does that mean that I can't select a challenge unless I host a lobby?

That's correct. You can of course influence what is chosen if people in the room are talking. But a nice addition, I suppose, would be a kind of suggestion system where you could suggest the next event to the host using the menus.

Cool.

I tried online the other night but quickly got confused.

First I was in some mode where cars were randomly driving around the city. Then that "game" ended and I found myself in a race, which was clear enough. Then that ended and I was back in some random driving around town mode. There was some sort of a scoreboard on the side, but it didn't really look like anyone was paying it any attention. I tried to do an online challenge, but they were unselectable from the online menu.

It's either poorly designed or I'm stupid. Or some combination of both.

The standard mode for multiplayer is "Freeburn". It essentially uses the entire map as a lobby for everyone to do whatever they want. Whoever is hosting the lobby can choose what to do, be it the sort of co-op challenges or races.

The scoreboard records information about what the people in the room have done in Freeburn during the session, such as longest jump, best power parking, etc. I have done a lot of the co-op challenges with friends. It's a great social MP experience if you are just looking to hang out and chat while playing a game.

Strangely enough, Greyhounds are supposed to be great apartment dogs because they really just like to lounge about. Certainly a bit on the bigger side, though.

Could go with Whippets, which are sort of like small Greyhounds. Very sweet dogs, my in-laws have a pair. You have to take care of them in cold weather, though - not sure where you live.

I agree.  I remember watching the 1Up show where Dyak explained more mechanics of the game than anyone would learn from the manual or in-game help texts.  I still have no idea how the runes and charms work.

I think I mentioned this in some other thread, but my facepalm moment with Too Human was when I was on the last level of the game and a note comes up on the screen that says "to continue attacking in one direction, hold the right thumbstick". The game waited until the last level to tell me this and I have been flicking the stick for each attack for the entire game. Granted, it may have been in the manual, but this is something the game should have told me the first time I swung my sword at someone, and I have no idea why it finally told me 10 hours into the game.

I really hope they don't do an Evil Dead remake. Any attempt to have another actor try to recreate Ash is just going to be a disaster. Make an Evil Dead 4, fine. Make another story in the same universe but with different characters, fine. But please, not this.
7297  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Why is Sacred 2 so popular and.... on: May 21, 2009, 04:47:10 PM
I haven't played Sacred, but the things I didn't like about Too Human:

1. The character classes seemed to be tuned for co-op and not single player. I used a commando and got the 100 deaths achievement on my first run-through of the story.

2. The death animation was endlessly long. See #1.

3. The boss battles were awful, probably the worst I've ever seen.

4. The game did a horrible job of explaining how it worked and didn't even spell out things in the manual. The combat system, charms, etc.

Apparently the New Hampshire bill was shot down because some of the members of their state congress didn't approve of the Governor's provisions that allowed churches to refuse to do same-sex weddings. The thought being that it codified discrimination.

I'm kind of surprised that they would take that opinion. Separation of church and state would seem to be the goal in a lot of this.

There was a very disturbing story on digg about a father who was high on PCP or something similar and literally bit the eyes out of his son's head. This horrifying story reminded someone of the story of "Big Lurch", a rapper who, also high, killed and ate his girlfriend (well, parts of her). He pleaded insanity, also saying that his record label kept him stocked with drugs and encouraged him to do outrageous things to maintain his image. The judge did not buy this and sentenced him to life in prison. A crazy story, and I'm really surprised I've never heard of it, considering it happened 7 years ago. I'm also surprised it hasn't been turned into a horror movie.

It seems very targeted towards finding certain kinds of information, usually related to math and analysis. For example, if I put in a simple search like "Who are the Beatles?" the best it can do is give a simple description (that they were a rock band in the 60's) and then allow you to search Google. If I do "Who are the Rolling Stones?" it gets nothing at all.

From what I've read, you don't get your credit for a few days, and based on that alone it doesn't seem that likely to catch on. Based on what you have there, MLB The Show. Perhaps the Syphon Filter games for shooters. I haven't played it yet, but the Resistance game is supposed to be very good. EDIT: I second God of War, the definitely fits your genres.

I don't have much experience with RPGs on the PSP, so I'm not much help with that. The one game I would recommend outside the genres you listed, if you like 3D platformers at all, is Daxter.

Just for the hell of it, I looked to see what Gamerankings categorizes as 3D platformers released for next-gen systems since the release of the XBOX 360 (included PSP but not DS and not counting re-releases like Banjo-Kazooie XBLA. Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters is missing, I guess based on release date, and Mario 64 DS, due to skipping the DS):

PC pretty much gets just movie tie-in games, even going back a few more years. If you haven't played it, there is a version of Rayman 2 for PC, and it is the highest rated 3D platformer, followed by Psychonauts.

Sadly, the 3D platformer is a dying breed even on consoles. We've had, what, 2 released this entire generation? Ratchet and Clank Future and Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe Legend of Sypro? B&K Nuts and Bolts sort of qualifies and then you've got a rash of Tomb Raider/PoP type games, but while fun, they're just not the same.

de Blob, Mushroom Men, Death Jr, a couple of Crash games, a couple of Sonic games, at least three of those Spyro games, a couple of Disney/Dreamworks tie-ins, Braid, and Lost Winds all count, IMO.  Maybe they're not all great, but they're out there.  Mostly on Wii, it seems.

OK, 2 good 3D platfomers smile (and Braid and Lost Winds are 2D, of course)  I forgot about de Blob and have heard good things about it. I should really look into that.
