No, they are just the characters that aren't allowed to use the shotgun. Wait, you gave Ashley a shotgun? According to her character type she gets an assault rifle and then you can unlock the sniper rifle for her. Wouldn't she be completely untrained using a shotgun?

You can level up your teammates manually if you take them with you on missions, and once she reached a certain level I trained her on the shotgun (or at least I think I did).  It has been a while since I last played the game, but I'm pretty sure once she was weapons trained to a certain point you unlock her ability to use the shotgun and I then raised her training with that specific weapon.  Perhaps I'm not remembering correctly and I outfitted her assault rifle with chemical rounds and not the shotgun.  Maybe it was the bullfrog looking guy and not Ashley.  Now I'm not sure.   retard

Because they look so much alike slywink  My female Sheperd was dissapointed to learn she wasn't allowed in Ashley's pants.

It will be most interesting when they go play in Green Bay. I was kind of surprised I found myself rooting against Favre. I guess I finally got tired of his crap. Interesting that he's the first QB to beat every team in the league, though.

Things they need to fix in MW2-

Grenade travel distance reduce by 50%
3x grenade perk (a la grenade spam)
hit detection (latency and hit boxes)
martyrdom- only if a grenade is in inventory
stabbing distance with knives
adjust the accuracy of SMGs and shotguns over distance
reduce the power of the M16
decrease the firing rate of pistols (no one can fire a .50 that quickly and accurately)
invulnerability during the last stand animation
pinpoint accuracy of HMGs over distance

Seeing as they added a heartbeat sensor, I don't think they're going for more realism.

Well, I am very late to the party here, but I'll say that Mass Effect has its hooks in me. I'm near 20 hours in and haven't done much of the main story. Why do I keep visiting barren planets to truck around scanning artifacts and fighting through the odd settlement or mine? I'd have to say that one reason is that all the main missions I have played have been a good deal of fun. Not a lot of thought was put into the random planets, but the main missions have a nice mix of driving, fighting and light puzzle solving. The other reason? Loot. I am pretty hooked on searching every sludge canister and malfunctioning equipment for a sniper rifle with 1 extra point of power, a more explosive grenade upgrade or a snazzy looking set of armor.

This mission.  Where I have to haul around MacMillan down behind the ferris wheel, then fight off waves and waves of enemies is frustrating.

And the retarded part, is that I got to the end.  The helicopter landed.  I was carrying MacMillan to the helicopter.  And I see allied soldiers come out and just sit there.  No matter I'm getting hammered from the OPPOSITE SIDE.  So I put MacMillan down, fight off some enemies, pick him back up and WTF, I can't get into the helicopter.  Oh, it won't have enough fuel, so it leaves.  The shitty part is, I got there when the fucking back was STILL OPEN.

Denied by the invisible wall.  Goddamnit!!!

Apparently there was an occurence in CA of a Lexus' accelerator getting jammed and resulting in a crash at 120 miles an hour. My question is, they had the presence of mind to call 911 but not to put the car in Neutral or step on the brake?

Brake > Accelerator.

If you listen to the 911 call, he says that pressing on the brakes isn't working (actually, they mention that in the article). Taking the car out of gear - don't know if they tried that.

I saw a news report where they had the 911 call from the accident, and it came from a passenger in the car. Really horrible.

Our RAV4 has the hooks to keep the mats in place. Thing is, they have been making cars with mats that don't hook on forever. It's odd that this has only become an issue now.

Hm. There should definitely be a destination mark on your map. Did you try moving around a little and seeing if one appeared? Seems like a bug. I can't remember off the top of my head where she is at that point in the game, but I'm sure there are walkthroughs that can help.

OK, finished this tonight (although I immediately downloaded the DLC and will be playing through that as well). Totally get the frustration with the last level. Especially since the last few missions weren't very hard and there doesn't seem to be a trick to it

Halfway through the last mission, after dying 3 times I decided to go down to casual mode since I was expecting continued frustration, and even then it took me 2 tries.
Spoiler for Hiden:
After I lost the tank, I grabbed the arc welder from a supply box to help grab vehicles, and that wound up being a good decision when I found out I needed to take on a tank.

Looking back on this game, while it did have some repetitive parts, I have to say overall it was great. Mercenaries 2 may have had some bigger explosions and aircraft, but it also had the annoyance of having to manage your inventory, call in strikes and do a lot of waiting and boring point-to-point traveling (avoided in RFG once you get the warp power). I was really impressed by the size of the map, and while the areas weren't a whole lot different from each other, there was a really nice amount of detail visible in the different areas, from the grassy parts of oasis, to the amazing rock formations and tight valleys of Eos. And of course, Geomod 2.0 is awesome.

I recently joined BookMooch and PaperBackSwap and I am clearing out a lot of old books I have no need for anymore. With my credits I am mixing some more serious stuff with some no-stress sci-fi. One of the things I was interested in getting back to was some of the Star Wars books. Back quite a few years ago I read the original Thrawn trilogy and the first Rogue Squadron book, but nothing more. Since then I know the catalog has overflowed, and it's kind of hard to know where to look.

I was wondering if anyone around here had kept up with the books and could recommend a good place to start. Something fairly self-contained would be nice as I won't want to have to wonder what's going on when they refer to something that happened in several other books.

So I decided to try out a couple of rounds of multiplayer yesterday, since I hadn't ventured there yet, and in the very first round some guy got a rail driver and was just murdering everyone from some hiding spot. I guess they wanted to include all the weapons, but I don't see how you can have a balanced game when someone can hide and one-shot kill anyone on the map. The score ended up something like 30-6. The second round I played no one had a rail driver and it was a lot more fun and even.

Was there a "previously on" section before the show started? I TiVoed it and we didn't have one. I was kind of amazed by how little recapping was done in the episode. I think if someone hadn't seen last season they would have been completely lost. As it was I was having trouble remembering that Echo's former handler was now the head of security and that Helo was not actually a handler (yet).

I thought the Whiskey bit was really interesting. I never considered the fact that the doctor would not want to go back to being her original self because that would mean she would "die". But wouldn't she just go willingly if they asked her if she wanted a treatment?

Also, was there more to the fact that Whiskey hated Topher than he thought it would be best for the project? I didn't really understand why she was so hung up on it.

I was going to say Sunset Grill as well. And while their food menu isn't as large as the beer menu, it is quite large and the food is good. You could also try the Sunset Cantina, which is a drop closer to downtown if you interested in a margarita with your beer. http://www.allstonsfinest.com is the site for those places.

Heh, I went to B-school at BU and we went to Cornwall's all the time since it was right next to our building. If you are in that area, you could also go to Boston Beer Works, which only serves their own microbrew, but you can get flights and they have good food (get the sweet potato fries).

ForsakenPenguin's Broncos beat my Cowboys 14-7. The Broncos really just rolled all over the Cowboys. Knowshon Moreno racked up 114 yards and 2 TDs while Marion Barber could only come up with 6 yards rushing on 7 attempts, and the Cowboys only managed 1 first down. The only reason the score was so close was that several times as the Broncos were threatening to score, Kyle Orton threw an INT. He threw 4 altogether, including one caught in the end zone by Ken Hamlin, which was returned 101 yards for a TD. I saved the video, but it loses most of the impact when the run starts around the 50 yard line (why can't they make the videos last for the entire play? Or at least 5-10 seconds longer?).  It was a fun game, though, and I clearly have a lot of practicing to do.
