Is the PSP version of God of War just an enhanced version of the original PS2 version? Or are the stories and content pretty different?

the PSP GoW is it's own game, with a story that takes place before the events of either of the PS2 games.

personally, i'll be voting for God of War as the next GotM...been wanting to play the series ever since i picked up my PS3 almost nine months ago, and GotM would give me the perfect excuse to pick them up icon_cool

Actually GoW PSP takes place between GoW1 and GoW2. It's a really good game too. The only down side to it is that it can be beaten in about 6 hours.

Chains of Olympus takes place prior to the original God of War.
7162  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Original Rainbow Six coming to GOG.Com on: April 15, 2009, 08:21:40 PM
I played through the original and Eagle Watch a couple of years ago for the first time. I really got in to the planning stuff because I liked the concept of beating the terrorists based on good planning and not on how quickly I could flick my mouse around the screen. I remember I spent a very long time on the first map, which was a 3 story building with hostages. I got it so I could play as one team and the other two teams could carry out their missions without any intervention on my part. Very cool, and you could finish the entire level in a minute or two with good planning. I think that was the goal - a successful anti-terrorist attack has to be swift and coordinated.

However, that concept didn't really work for the game as a whole. Sometimes you would run the exact same route and your guys would get killed. Trying to get a team to flash and clear a room on their own was a real pain and rarely worked (they did manage to get this a bit better in the later console versions). So, what you wound up doing was using the plans to get your teams to certain points and then taking over to do the more sensitive work - the strategy guide backed this up. I still had fun with the game, though and liked the realistic nature - even though the tangos could one-shot you, you could do the same to them, and very often your teammates would take down people before you even moved your crosshairs.

Rogue Spear added the full-on spectator mode, which made me really want to be able to make working plans. However, I had been playing too much Rainbow Six at that point and got a little burnt out, so I stopped playing after the first map. I should give it another go sometime.

It's pretty common to see the term "traveler's cheques" in the US. Maybe so when you use them in a foreign country, they'll know what it is you're handing them.

I realized that I have had Heavenly Sword hanging around since the $20 Thanksgiving deal, so I took the opportunity to quickly knock that out of my backlog.

How did you like it?

I gave it a 7 out of 10. It's very hard to not look at it as a God of War clone, and viewed that way, it comes up lacking. Extremely short, only 1 weapon (outside of the occasional use of projectiles), no magic, no weapon upgrades, and simplistic puzzles. You get the secondary character, but she controls a bit wonky at times. The cutscenes were impressive and acting was well done (although kind of over the top at times). The combo system was interesting, but it was very easy to rely on 1 or 2 combos to get the job done.  Now that I am describing it, maybe a 7 is too generous. I appreciated the production values, but it's hard not to look at the finished product and feel like half the game was missing - almost like an extended demo where you get to try out a couple of the weapons and fight a couple of bosses.

Played a little more so now I am 2:15 in. I didn't get killed by either of the first 2 bosses, which is pretty impressive for me  icon_mrgreen Hopefully that bodes well for the difficulty level. Combat is interesting, sort of a cross between MLB: The Show and Final Fantasy  icon_lol

I already have Shadow Hearts: Covenant in Goozex and should get it before too long. Luckily, I managed to get this one first. I will look out for this sea beast thing.

By the way, did any of you play Koudelka? I haven't quite gathered from reading stuff on the net whether there is anything really meaningful that carries over from that game to this game. At the beginning of the game it sort of gave the impression that you had met Yuri before and maybe covered his past in Koudelka, but from what I have read that isn't the case.
7173  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / [LTTP] Shadow Hearts on: April 14, 2009, 12:33:43 AM
Started the game tonight (yes, I know I was playing FFXII, but I needed a break from it. I'll definitely going be going back). My first impression of the 90 or so minutes I have played - the people who made this game are pretty messed up. There have already been jokes about molesting sleeping girls, oral sex, homosexuals and cannibalism. But it seems pretty interesting and I'm looking forward to continuing on with it.

I'll probably take it into the Apple store next week to see if they are able to mount the drive in firewire target mode. If I want to use spinrite, I'll have to install the drive in a pc, and I don't have any desktop pc's right now.

A month or so ago I purchased a 1TB backup drive. However, I never got around to backing up my computer. Last night, without warning, my HD appeared to die a horrible death (I can't even see the drive using my disk utility).

I am going to try some things, but based on what I am seeing I am not too hopeful. Luckily, due to current technology, it's not the end of the world. All of my e-mail is stored on Gmail, music can be retrieved off of my iPods, audiobooks can be redownloaded from Audible, etc. However, some things I will likely not be able to recover, including pictures I took during vacations and around my wedding that don't have backups, and some older documents that I might have wanted - I'm kind of furious with myself.

So here's your call to action - go back up your data.

I'm currently
Spoiler for Hiden:
boarding the ship in the navy yard

I took a few days off because I was getting a little burned out, but I should play some more this weekend. If you read the setup to that visual walkthrough, the writer actually recommends playing through HK and then coming back at a later date to play the second half of the game, given its length. I'm not going to do that since I want to finish in the allotted time, but I thought it was interesting that what I was experiencing wasn't out of the ordinary.

I would pass on GoW because I pretty recently played both GoW2 and Chains of Olympus, but people should certainly vote it if they want it. I was browsing through the older 360 titles in the 75-85% rating category (similar to Gun) and spotted things like The Darkness and Lost Planet - there are games that got average reviews but people sometimes speak highly of.

Will Smith has shown he can do serious roles, but clearly it will be a very different movie.  More of a Battlestar Galactica type remake than a strict do-over is what I would imagine.  Anyway, you should see the original.  I really thought it was great.

I believe the reviews I have read that have said it is very good, but they have also led me to believe it might be a little too disturbing/gory for my tastes.

Interesting that 1) he's got two blades and 2) his fingers are intact.

2 blades is one of the new things I guess.  Also the fingers thing was Altair, so since this is a new "relative" he doesn't need to have his finger removed.

IIRC even the girl (can't remember future chicks name) from the first one also had her finger removed.  it had something to do with the blade needing an open spot to properly pop out.

Yes, this is what I meant. It was a little unclear if Lucy actually was missing her finger or she was just making a gesture so Desmond would get the idea (I just finished the game last night). You'd think that if Lucy was missing her finger that the corporation would be a bit suspicious of her and not let her work on their top secret projects.

Every week when you log on, there are new and fantastic levels to play.

What if I really don't enjoy 2D platformers? Is it good enough to overcome that? (I love 3D platfomers, but I've never been able to get into 2D platformers - I find the limited range of movement to be frustrating, especially if it requires you to deal with enemies).

I would say you probably won't like it.  It's more like 2.5D but plays like a 2D platformer with floaty controls.

Ok I'm not trying to be insensitive here, but this is confusing.  He's a rookie, to me that means this is his first year in MLB.  The season started on Sunday Night, but the article states that it's his fourth major-league start.  Are they talking about preseason?  I thought preseason doesn't count.

Well, they may be talking about the technical definition of rookie, as in eligible for rookie of the year. You are allowed a certain amount of playtime before losing rookie eligibility.

Eligibility requirements were set forth in 1971 and a rookie was formally defined as a player with less than one-hundred thirty at-bats, a pitcher with less than fifty innings pitched, or anyone with less than forty-five days on any Major League roster.

For a $60 game, the graphics sure suck. The story bites too. Apparently you play the role of a citizen in a country with the most convoluted tax laws, and you have to figure out how much money you owe the government. And they made some absolutely stupid design decisions. Get this: if you finish the game in the negative, you actually have to pay the country all the money you owe in real dollars!

Piece of crap game. Wish I never bought it.

I think they only people who are likely to get it (Good Friday) off in the US are teachers and I think the market is closed, so there is probably some impact there.  I will be finishing Assassin's Creed in the next couple of days and have to keep moving on Deus Ex. Assuming I finish up AC, I will probably play some Lost and Damned.

Its a well known fact that Billy Bob doesn't like it when people refer to his acting while he is in band mode. The interviewer was told by his Producers not to bring it up and he did it anyway. That's just going to ruin the mood for the whole interview. It was a stupid thing to do by the interviewer. There is no reason to "set the context" because everyone is going to know who Billy Bob Thornton is without him having to refer to Oscar winning actor/director/writer whatever.

That doesn't give him an excuse for being a total dick.

I doubt I'd win this thread, but because I have a lot of criteria around game purchases I'd could probably be a challenger. I don't agree though that all DLC should be counted. If you play in a clan and new maps are released, they're every bit as important as expansions are to a MMO guild member. So IMO DLC map packs should be excluded.

that would fall under the example of the MMO expansion pack clause I mentioned that I think they used.  Fallout 3 DLC definitely isn't required to play the game though.  IIRC trading was OK as no money leaves your hands for the game.

I could last for quite a while just using Goozex, except technically you pay $1 each time you make a trade. If I had the will power, I'm sure I could make it to at least the end of the year off of backlog. I have whittled my console game pile down a bit, but I have a whole box of old PC games.
