huh - having just started playing Deadspace on the Xbox, this is actually the first Wii game I'm interested in since Wii Sports...

This is a game I'd think about buying a Wii for!

I think you'll regret that.  Sure DS would be fun, but in reality there isn't much going for the Wii.  Our wii hasn't been turned on since last christmas

As Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio would say, this is more of a you problem than a Wii problem...

I've played about 10 different games on the Wii over the past 9 months and there are at least 4 or 5 that I can't even get to now. Plenty of stuff to play, you just have to look for it. Some suggestions, Little Kings Story, Cursed Mountain, Tiger Woods 10, Muramasa, The Conduit, Punchout, Madworld, Spyborgs, Spectrobes, House of the Dead, Excitebots, Skate It, Shaun White, and I could name some more marginal titles that are really cheap now and fun. Not to mention Wiiware and Virtual Console. I think too many folks are too quick to discount what they have in their Wii slywink
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: From Your Personal Perspective, Who is Winning This Generation of Consoles? on: September 23, 2009, 03:40:06 AM
I've actually come to like my PS3 the most this gen. However, I've tried more and different games on the Wii that I would not have normally tried. Anyone who dismisses the controls on the Wii obviously has not spent any real time with the system or games.

I voted Wii if only because of the way it has changed the gaming landscape. The amount and varying type of people that Nintendo has brought to the market is amazing. You realize that if just 10% of those people "upgrade" to an HD system or more traditional gaming system it is a boon to developers and gaming.

while the 360 has had a ton of good games, I can't give them any acclaim because they spent 3 years until they could finally deliver hardware that won't die on the consumer. On top of that they denied any problems until the breaking point.

So, what about this then?

Quote
EA Sports' latest Madden was easily the best selling title for the month of August, racking up close to 2 million unit sales across its five SKUs. The Wii SKU, however, which EA put extra effort into redesigning with an all-new visual style and other Wii-specific features, only managed to sell 67K copies, The NPD Group has told IndustryGamers.

Makes you think I think - does this mean that people who own the Wii have other consoles of which to play Madden on? Or does this mean that people who only own the Wii aren't interested in games like Madden at all?

I think it's two things. First the majority of Wii owners aren't going to buy the game year after year. They bought Madden 09, why do they need 10? Looking back the older Madden's on Wii had pretty good legs and sold better than this. Second, once the reviews of the new Wii Madden came out and the gamers who would've bought it found out it was gimped, well there go those sales. I was all set to buy it on Wii. I like the visual style, I love the idea of point and pass, but the game is a shell of the other ones, and they tacked on a "classic" mode that doesn't have any of the good innovations. I am actually surprised it sold 67 thousand to be honest.

yeah... we didn't tolerate clowns like this...granted there was the 1998 BYU v Alabama game where I was a little drunk and rowdy and may have said some things about the Mormon faith I may or may not regret. All I really remember was that my Mom was very excited to see me cheering on like 4 commercial breaks on ESPN. I was so rowdy that students were coming up to me on the Quad weeks later asking if I was going to be as passionate at the upcoming games.

We wanted to go so bad too, if the Little Man hadn't been due on the exact day of the game we probably would've gone. I can't wait for the rest of the season, we may still try to get tickets to a game at Bryant Denny.

For public companies this is primarily mandated by law. We have to keep all applications filed with us for 6 years. It's mainly a CYA on the companies behalf. You could probably skip 90% of the information, like highschool etc, and just get the basic deets in there and sign it. They just need the piece of paper for EEOC regulations and such. Don't be offended.
91  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: What's a good diet coke alternative? on: September 06, 2009, 04:14:10 AM
I'll drink Water, Milk, Unsweet Tea, Cranberry Juice and Orange Juice none from concentrate and in small quantities. I don't swear off sodas as I have a weakness for Coke Zero, Cherry Coke Zero, Ginger Ale, Root Beer and Birch Beer. I do prefer that my Ginger Ale, Root Beer and Birch Beer be the real thing which is a little tougher to come by and more expensive. If they made Caffeine free Coke Zero I'd be in trouble. I do like regular Coffee, no more than 15 ounces total a day though and not every day.

As for the studies talking about the negative effects of artificial sweetners, think about the amount you have to drink of this shit to hurt you. If you are drinking 1 soda a day I'd be worried. That's a lot of crap to put in your body.

98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Madden 10 Impressions on: August 23, 2009, 09:14:10 PM
Still enjoying the game, having an up and down franchise. I need to tweak it just a little harder, but it's odd, I blow out the Ravens, barely beat the Raiders, win a shoot out with the Eagles, Win a tight one against the Giants and then run the Cowboys out of the stadium. It seems like every other game is tough. I need to find a good break tackle point for the CPU sliders. Patrick Crayton of the Cowboys broke 5 tackles on one play. That dude is like 150 pounds soaking wet and can't fight through a paper bag. The "fight for every yard" is neat but unrealistic when small wide receivers and backs shrug off 300 pound lineman like they are nothing.
99  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Madden 10 Impressions on: August 20, 2009, 07:41:03 PM
the problem is that with the refs talking over the play you can't access the interface so by the time the players started walking to the line of scrimmage there was like 3 seconds left I was racing to snap the ball. Again, if they really wanted to do what's "In the Game" they would've designed it so that A: I can call a play while they are conferencing and B: Just like in the pros a ref is standing over the ball and I can be lined up before they restart the clock. No time was stopped while they "discussed it"

You can't challenge in the last two minutes of any half, only the refs can challenge at that point. I haven't used the challenges, but I know they are in the game somewhere.

And this is what hosed me, not only did they have a midfield conference the booth wouldn't review the play. The game is good, just needs some of these little details ironed out.

I did download the new rosters and restarted the franchise. I blew the Ravens out of the water, overall it was a balanced game that would've been closer if Flacco didn't throw 4 ints, one a pick six. After the game I thought I should adjust the sliders, and I still may, but I looked up Flacco's stats from 08 and he did throw a good amount of ints.

I agree that the plan is stupid, have you talked to HR? I find it odd that HR would support a program that excludes certain employees.

Our sales manager just added 18 accounts to one of our reps territories without telling the rep, all of them were down from last year with history. Because of our system he went from being at 103% of budget to 92%, effectively hurting his pay, appraisal and potential bonus. He did something similar with other reps who aren't having a good year. The problem is that none of the reps have the balls to say anything to Loss Prevention or the Ethics hot line. Mainly because they don't want a target on their backs and because they don't think anything will get changed. It is very frustrating for me to hear that kind of stuff, because if no one says anything, nothing will ever get changed.
102  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Madden 10 Impressions on: August 20, 2009, 03:13:23 AM
I wanted to strangle the game tonight. Played a 35 - 35 game against the Raiders with custom sliders that sit somewhere around all-pro. My Beef was with a 3rd down play with 15 seconds left and no timeouts left I thought I scored a touchdown, but the refs decided to think it over, noted this was in the middle of the field and maybe he was down before he crossed, and they said I didn't score, but I couldn't challenge and no booth challenge, which was bullshit. However where I got really pissed off was that while the refs were discussing it I couldn't set up a play like you could normally do. While refs are discussing stuff coaches are usually telling players to line up, and you normally get a ref timeout and a reset. No such luck for me, there was not enough time to call a play and set up. NOT HAPPY. Needless to say Darren McFadden, who is a stud in this game, takes a 3 and 17 swing pass through 4 defenders 76 yards and was pushed out at the 3. I was too disgusted to keep playing. I had to battle crazy plays like that all game to come back to win. The Raiders just do not have that kind of offense, and Mcfadden, while a great athlete, is not a power back that breaks a lot of tackles...

I'll go back and tweak some stuff, but I was disappointed in sloppiness on some of the finer details of the rules and their implementations.

105  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Madden 10 Impressions on: August 18, 2009, 05:45:12 PM
Here are my rambling thoughts. I've liked what I've played, I need to up the difficulty and play with sliders, but overall I am satisfied. I haven't bought a Madden in 5 years, but I was expecting things to be a little more refined. For some reason I just remember the interface being more user friendly. It seems like a labor to get to options, and a lot of the options from last gen games are no longer around.

I played a couple preseason franchise games, but I will start over with the updated rosters. I also played 2 online games, won one, lost one. In the win the opponent quit/disconnected. Definitely happy with the slower pace too.

Also need to add that if anyone has the opportunity to go to Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, Al , not the Birmingham ones, you will be in for a treat. I loved Dreamland when I was in school.

Here is Richmond we have a couple good local places, one of them beat Bobby Flay in a spare rib throwdown. Buzz and Ned's is clearly Richmond's best overall BBQ stop. They make the best Brisket I have ever had. Their sauce isn't too shabby either.

Sweet Baby Ray's is foul. FOUL. It should barely be considered sauce, and now where near best of anything.
Stubb's a good store brand to buy.

If you can get Gate's sauce out of Kansas City you are rocking it.

Even though I do not like Famous Dave's food, the company's sauces are decent.

Sauer's makes an excellent basting/cooking sauce.

However, my Mom's family recipe is very difficult to beat, but I don't know if I could share that secret with everyone yet.

110  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Car buying advice on: August 05, 2009, 03:33:50 AM
Also call dealerships in the next closest town. Here in the Mid-Atlantic a lot of folks go to DC or call up to DC because they think they get a better price because their are more dealerships, it's not always true, but it will give you a good idea of what you can pay. You scenarios like, if you walk in to the dealership today with cash in hand, you provide the amount, what the dealer would be willing to do then hold them to that.

Depending on the popularity of the car you can usually negotiate 1500 to 3500 off the top of a new car not including incentives and rebates. Consider previous year models that are still new. So look at 2008's that may still be on the lots, or look at 2009 models now. Obviously with the way the auto industry has been they aren't in their current year model closeout mode like they normally would be, but keep that in mind. I mean a brand new 2008 model is still brand new and you can get some incredible incentives to take it off the lot.

This thread is the reason that I will likely go to CarMax after doing research.  I won't buy brand new at any time in the foreseeable future, so a dealwe willing to stand behind their cars for 30 days.

Yes but you will pay a premium on the average for that convenience. Sometimes it's a lot, sometimes it's little to nothing. For example I am interested in a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 wagon, there is one in town 93k mileage manual transmission etc. for 5300 bucks, an extremely similar one at CarMax with 117k mileage 9000. It just doesn't add up. Some people really like to negotiate, some do not. I had a friend who bought a 2002 Maxima from them that if he had bought it from the dealership my dad worked at he would've saved almost 4500.

I truly believe that this is a very dealer to dealer experience and even in each dealership it is different. My father won customer loyalty by not being difficult to deal with and by being up front. He'd tell you straight up when he couldn't do more for the people. Unfortunately the Sales Managers were pricks for the most part, and there were several crappy salesmen as well. He was the kind of guy that would never do anything to steal a sale, even if from another dealership. He's even thrown customers off the lot for pulling stuff like that. It's a shame that other salespeople can't act like that. Part of why he left car sales after 25 years of top sales was because of the shitty attitudes and shitty practices.

I know I will never buy a car without his help as long as I can. Something nice about being able to walk in to a dealership and knowing what everything should cost. We got 3000 off the top of our 2007 Altima with no questions asked, Dad said if I wanted to be a dick I could've gotten another grand, but he got me an extra 750 on the trade in over Carmax, so it's all about what you're willing to work for. Lastly, I believe in the walk in with a check and walk out with a car method, the majority of dealers just want to get rid of the inventory.

Oh here's more on the clunkers thing:

115  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Punky Beagle! on: July 29, 2009, 08:11:56 PM
We have a Tri-Colored Beagle that we've had since she was 8 weeks old. Beagles are incredibly smart and excellent small game hunting dogs, females are great pack leaders. One thing we learned was that Beagles are one of the few breeds that will associate themselves more with another dog than their owner. Our Beagle, Rose, loves both of us, but if she if separated from our mixed breed dog, Bella, she goes nuts. They are best friends and pretty much inseparable.

Rose is always watching us and taking in what we do. If she can find a way to get some extra food, a treat, or extra loving she is always working through it in her brain. She is also a big explorer. We haven't had as much time to walk her lately, but we have a big back yard which I think she is finally getting bored with. She can jump over 6 feet in the air by bouncing off something. It's a sight to see her run to a tree and jump off chasing the squirrels. I've seen get pretty close the climbing the 6ft privacy fence too. I've heard many stories of Beagles climbing chained linked fences with ease.

Congrats on the Beagle, they are some of most lovable dogs on the planet and I will definitely be keeping with the breed as long as I have a dog.

We bought some paint this morning.  Spent a good 10 hours paining the living room.  Had to do two coats.  I think we should have bought better paint, we still see some white after going over it a few times.  That or our rollers are not the correct nap.  Anyways, we spent $20 per gallon, but the supplies is what were expensive, sheesh.

If you bought good tools then it is the paint, generally the 20 dollar a gallon paint you buy at Lowe's and Home Depot are what I would sell for 7 to 12 a gallon. If you bought good tools, preferably Purdy or Wooster brand naps, you should be fine. Also, 1/2" nap is ideal for people with little painting experience. If you go buy for any other rooms shoot me an email and I'll try my best to get you top of the line paint, IE One coat performance in just about any color imaginable, for an affordable price, as well a good chunk off any other supplies. I can set the pricing here in VA and get you those prices at your local SW.
