Game, New Game, Another New Game, I may have messed this one up, Eff this Game, among other things.

Carrie and I have entered our son in a Parent's Magazine cover baby contest. Obviously we think he's super adorable, and we hope everyone does too. We'd appreciate any votes:

http://photos.parents.com/category/vote/photo/318571?esrc=nwphotofaves4  hopefully this link works.

Also, you can see some other great shots of our little man: http://www.parents.com/photos/photo-contests-1/2010-parents-cover-contest/1925900029/?photoId=1922600088

Much Appreciated

84  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Any cooks out there? Cookware recommendations? on: May 23, 2010, 05:28:35 PM
Immersion Blenders are great, we use one to make all of my son's baby food. Again though, I have to suggest Kitchen Aid, it really is a top brand that will last. We've abused both the blender and the mixer.

Also, coming back to the stand-up mixer. When shopping for the Kitchen aid, you may be tempted to buy the less expensive and smaller model that that has the tilt up head. Don't. While it is still a good mixer, you should save and get the bigger one that has a crank that raises and lowers the bowl. It's a little more durable, and you can get a bigger bowl too. It's also got a bigger motor. My buddy, who went to Culinary School and has a tilt head version, really really likes our Kitchen Aid, it just takes more abuse.
85  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Bathtub/tile refinishing on: May 18, 2010, 12:29:00 AM
For the Refinishing of tub and tile, check out : http://www.ximbonder.com/products_detail.asp?id=48

Also comes in a spray can as well. Also recommend using : http://www.ximbonder.com/products_detail.asp?id=53

Use that Etching solution prior to any kind of painting.

Now. With all that said. Is your tub porcelain? I am just assuming it is. Also, do you want something other than white?

I would actually recommend using the etching solution, and then two coats of a Sherwin Williams Epoxy, Duraplate 235 NSF. I feel the Duraplate is a better product than the TileDoc, but the TileDoc is probably a little easier to use. Got any more questions, shoot em my way. It's the company slogan.
86  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Dorito Burn on: May 13, 2010, 01:25:30 AM
The 2nd do build up a real good hotness. I enjoyed the flavor, but it was a little intense for a bag of chips, especially Doritos. The Pepsi Max Cease Fire was good too. However, the idiot at 7-11 couldn't realize the difference between them being out of stock / in high demand and a shortage of stock and Pepsi discontinuing the entire Pepsi Max line.
87  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Black Sigil (retro-style RPG) coming March 17 on: May 12, 2010, 07:16:40 PM
Did anyone every get this? I got it for dirt cheap over the weekend, $4.50 and have put about 1.5 hours in. The game is laboriously slow, and there is a lot of random battles that I seemingly cannot run away from. I am interested in playing more, but if someone has played through a lot of it and could give some good feedback as to keep plugging or not I would appreciate it.

Got this at a closing FYE in Tyson's Corner for $3.50 last Saturday, I've played for a bit, gotten to the second set of part making tools, and have generally enjoyed it immensely. It's a tad repetitive, would love to play against some you all's monsters, but hell, for $3.50 who can really complain?

http://wii.ign.com/index/top-reviewed.html

that should help too, by no means the best resource, but it list a lot of good games worth checking out.

Also, go get some games that come with the Wii Motion Plus. Once you start using it you will wish that it was in every game.
91  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Got a Wii, recommend games please on: April 17, 2010, 02:35:09 PM
Muramasa - Demon Blade <-- Go Get this now

Silent Hill - Shattered Memories

Little King's Story

No More Heroes 1 & 2

Red Steel 2

Sky Crawlers

Deadly Creatures was a lot of fun and can be had cheap now too

De Blob is another action/platformer/puzzle style game

I enjoyed both Excite Truck and Excite Bots for arcade style racing

Madworld is short but sweet

PunchOut! is a must own, it's not the longest game around, but you will come back to it for the challenges and for the simple yet perfectly balanced system.

Boom Blox and its sequel will be good for both SP and MP with your GF

I really liked Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobos Dungeon - Rogue-like game if that's your thing.

Let's See What else. . .

Lightgun style games

House of the Dead Overload

Ghost Squad

Dead Space

Both the Resident Evil lightgun games

Platform style:

Mario Galaxy

Boy and His Blob

Lost Wind <--2 games on Wiiware

Cave Story <-- Wiiware download

If you haven't played the Metroid Prime series, the bundled version can be had cheap, and that's 3 good games.

I hope you can find some stuff from all of that. Despite popular opinion there is a lot of great gaming to be had on the Wii, and you should be able to find something or quite a few somethings.

Well, here at least, there was no hate coming from one side. Only an invitation to discussion, that obviously was met with hate. Also had groups taking donations to fund groups the WBC go against.

the large FRB saved me though when I had to mail a 35 plus lb package to Monkeyfinger. I had that box jammed to the gills with a 360 and tons of extra stuff. If I had sent it first class or another method it would've cost me about $5 more than the FRB. So there are some advantages and disadvantages.

And I've never seen Consumer Reports to be reliable for anything. Period. I find there testing methods suspect for many things, and I do not feel they have enough expertise to really be good judges. Not saying that the Cadillacs are reliable long term, but I don't trust CS for that information.

If someone wants to exchange a used game for the same new game due to exclusive DLC they should allowed to even if they are beyond the return window, provided they pay the price difference. Every policy needs to have room for common sense opportunities to take care of the customer.

Except that a lot of retail monkeys don't understand this. There is a lot of room in policy. I know when I worked at Ebgames the DM essentially said, if I get a phone call from a customer saying that you said no, I will overrule you every time. So we learned to A: Not sweat the details, and B: Make sure the customer is happy, even if it means bending the rules.

I carried this to my current job at Sherwin Williams. I have a policy until my customer asks me to do something different. As long as it isn't unethical or illegal, I really don't care. It builds customer loyalty and I have profited greatly from it, but we have a lot of employees who just can't make that connection. They just aren't capable of seeing things outside of the barriers put up by the Company. I've told my employees the same thing that EBgames DM told me. We win nothing by arguing with our customers.

yeah, there is a version that comes packed in for a ten dollars more, which saves you about 10 bucks from having to buy the motion plus separately.

Just so happen to have 1200 Wii points sitting in my account. Huh, kinda convienient? Cave Story it is!

After playing the Just Cause 2 demo, I came to the same conclusion I have with all sandbox games. They're fun for 20 to 30 minutes of blowing stuff up, but ultimately they bore me to tears.

I also went on a buying spree last week with Muramasa, Sky Crawlers, Little Kings Story, Spyborgs, and Rondo of Blood

101  Non-Gaming / Trading Forum / SOLD Xbox 360 w/HDMI 60gb hd, 2 wireless controllers on: March 17, 2010, 04:38:40 PM
SOLD

So I haven't played my 360 in roughly 6 months. Moved it in to the office and it has since been forgotten. So this will hopefully become a benefit to someone here.

Complete System has an HDMI Input
60 Gb harddrive
2 Wireless controllers with a charge cable
Dlink Wireless adapter
I'll even include the three games I have which isn't anything special; Infinite Undiscovery, Left for Dead and Phantom Dust from the original Xbox.

I'm looking for $215 and that includes shipping. Prefer to use Paypal if that is important to anyone.

I'll leave this up for a week and if I don't get any offers I'm throwing it on Craigslist.

Thanks!

Also, I am interested in Fragile, but I have neither the time or money for new games. Maybe I can trade in some stuff.

It's never good news to hear things like that from your doctor. But definitely meet with them and listen to what they have to say. We had a big sit down with our OBGYN prior to having Alexander and went over everything including Cystic Fibrosis and we felt better and determined that no matter what our baby possibly had we were going to love the hell out of him. And that's all I can really say, just continue giving that little lots of hugs and kisses and treating him like your little prince, it's tough news, but I think you guys will be strong enough to handle it.

Which weren't even really Final Fantasy games anyways. Explains a lot huh? They were/are SaGa games, which rock btw. So don't feel bad. I am in the same boat. I put a ton of time in to FFX to end up not caring enough to finish. I also put a butt ton of time into FF12 to end up never finishing it and never feeling the urge to play it anymore. Led Zepplin - Houses of the Holy which in turn made me go and get every single Led Zepplin album on CD there after. I had never heard them before. I was 13 and it was 1992. My head nearly exploded at the awesomness that just got better the most albums I got.

I never had vinyl, but I had several cassettes, first one I ever bought with my own money was Pearl Jam - Ten, second cassette I think was Nirvana - Nevermind . My taste in music got better from there.

I am just trying to figure out why you would sign off on a performance appraisal that you had fundamental issues with? At the very least request a meeting with HR and the manager to go over the issues, bring in prior appraisals and ask questions. If your boss drives you nuts it is a great way to put one to them by having hr come down and start questioning their methodology, especially when you have legitimate reasoning to question them.

I'd have to concur that just about anything Hamilton-Beach is excellent. Their mid-range to high end appliances are some of the best thought out ones in the market.

Also would add that you shouldn't have too much fear of plastic parts. Most anything like this will be BPA free, and you can check the packaging.

I am wondering why you have to have a kettle? Maybe I am a philistine, but when I want hot tea I microwave some water and then steep the tea. Am I missing something?

The "getting in trouble for someone else paying your bill without your knowledge" thing is the japan thing. It's nice that they covered your bill. It's not nice that you get in trouble with your girlfriend because it happened mostly out of your control. I say mostly because how long does it take to put on a jacket?
Yeah, well crazy Girlfriend/Wife/women is a worldwide epidemic. Unfortunately there is no real cure yet.

I can only see someone getting upset if it looked like he intentionally tried to skip on the bill by taking too long to put on his jacket.
117  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Japan culture rant (paying for dinner) on: February 19, 2010, 03:07:33 PM
just from reading the story, to me it would seem the polite thing to do would have been to thank them for paying for your meal and make a promise to return the honor. That way no feelings are hurt. Any culture can grasp this. I would've been insulted if you kept trying to pay me when I covered you. One offer is usually enough. So the way I see it, the easy way to rectify this is to bring some stuff to your lessons and share with your students. And don't take no for an answer. I don't really see this as a japan thing, just a being nice thing.
118  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: PSP why? on: February 19, 2010, 02:47:16 PM
I had a PSP, and generally liked it, but it always failed to compare the DS in terms of games and even control. I just had more fun playing my DS games. I reaized that I didn't want a PS2 like game experience on my handheld if it meant sacrificing some of the conveniences of portable gaming. I like turning on the DS having the game load up immediately, playing for 15 minutes, closing the DS putting it right in to sleep mode and being able to come back as much as 8 hours later and pick up right where I left off.  It doesn't hurt that the DS has been consistently getting new and different types of games continually. You can't really do a Scribblenauts on PSP and have the same effect it does on DS.

I'd like to get another PSP sometime and hack it again, but I am in no hurry and can wait till the system is all but dead and build it up cheap.

Oh yeah, I wanted to add that we have plans to take Amtrak's Scenic railways across the country in the next couple of years. You can literally go from DC to LA in a little over a week by taking the scenic train system through the Alleghenies's on the Capitol Limited , through Chicago switching on to the Empire Builder to Glacier National Park, on to Portland and then south on the Coast Starlight to LA. Whole trip, first class with meals included in a 4 person sleeper car was pretty reasonable.  Depending on schedules we'd probably take a day or two off to visit some of the stops. Granted you need to schedule it to get the train with the sleeper cars, but it can be done.
