I'll still play and definately want PEQ, makes the game better from a "man the computer is stupid' standpoint.

Great game btw, not good with impressions anymore, just know that I had a great 4 hours last night and I can see myself enjoying the process of digging into the world of Albion, even if it only last a shortwhile.

3204  Gaming / Multiplayer Madness (MMO or otherwise) / Burnout 3 Live encounters.. on: September 10, 2004, 02:43:13 AM
Well with multipliers now in the game it's very possible to get huge scores and there are some huge crash scores...

However, mine was in Burnout 2, I can't remember which junction it was, but it was wild. Came into the t intersection and hit a 18 wheeler and got wedged in between a bus and the truck, because of the in game physics it caused the bus to rocket into the air and do some crazy twist, landed on pretty much everything and it was just wild watching the points rack up. made me kick myself for not having the Xbox version so I could post the score. However I did have a few eyewitnesses.

I think you need to check out the online records, they make my 100 million dollar crash look weak....

Why the hell are we gonna race when we have online CRASH mode... I can't wait to shake off the rust and start posting 100 million plus crashes...

for some reason, after reading your story, I pictured Ron as a Six Foot Three 250 pound guy wearing Black Jeans, a white T-shirt and a really bad mullet, you know flat top with the mullet, just throwing this guy around on the ground.

Shame this guy doesn't realize that he can't collect insurance checks or ride his bike while serving time for assault and getting bitch slapped around in jail.
3210  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I hate to say it... on: September 01, 2004, 06:57:00 PM
No no  no, if I put Kennison as my returner, Dante Hall gets kicked out completely from returning. You can't pick you backup or second guy. It just says pick who you want to start. It's not like the rest of the depth chart system.

I know how to use the game, it's just not an easy to use system.
3211  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I hate to say it... on: September 01, 2004, 12:12:39 AM
Just to add to what gellar said, go try and set up the depth chart for special teams.. what, there's no depth chart? I can't pick which two guys I want as return men? It's just easier and smoother to put guys where you want in Madden. Ea has a great interface that's easy to use. Don't even get me started on the obtuse weekly game plan that was lauded as a great thing in the reviews and previews.

Still like ESPN's on field play better, but man I want to run my team with ease.

Howabout better headsets? I've seen people wearing a nicer platinum colored headset that seems more traditional and more heavy duty. I just won't use my headset on live because it's not comfortable.
3214  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / I hate to say it... on: August 31, 2004, 02:46:22 AM
See, I'd rather have ESPN's on the field gameplay and Fluff presentation combined with Madden's easy to use interface and deep franchise.

Sega has yet to figure out a simple way to eidt and use rosters and playbooks. Their substitution system is borked as is the depth chart. It's one thing that they MUST rip off Madden. It's just so easy to do things off the field in Madden.

The only on field change I really want in ESPN is to get rid of the really slow animations, especially when they're not necessarry. Why did the receiver just dive backwards six yards like he was reaching for the ball when I led him on a fade? Doesn't happen all the time but enough to be disparaging.

Actually Agtfox, unless things have changed a lot in the past year or two, game companies usually don't get their product to stores that early.

Most stores and companies get their games the day of via overnight shipping. Some lucky place in the larger markets see product before hand. Not saying you wrong, but it's rare when a game gets in store before the release date. Stores can't be trusted to not break street dates.

Sometimes the retailers will even stock the title in their Distribution center prior to release. It's why Big Box stores don't get the games on the shelves for a couple days after the official street date.

there's no way any of this ties into Halo, but damn if the audio clips don't get you excited over whatever the hell it ends up being.

I would actually prefer an unannounced title being exposed via this method.

Anyone have a site that has what order to listen to all the clips together in? Because I've noticed that they all touch each other in one form. There's definately a whole audio story here, I'd love to see how to listen to these in order.

3218  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / creating league. double check your teams on: August 16, 2004, 04:04:42 AM
If no one makes a move, I'm considering pushing this out the door myself with 6 minute quarters, a little more time than the norm to keep from grinding the clock too easy and to still keep it quick.

10 week Season

5 days should be enough

Yes on trades

6 minutes

and pretty much defaults the rest of the way.

It won't hurt to start letting folks signup now while we wait to start it up.

Oh and I am gonna have as many Playoff teams as it will let me with a smaller league.

Just need one person to say go, and it will be done by tomorrow night.

3220  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / GBA games worth looking forward to on: August 15, 2004, 01:31:42 PM
You got Minish Cap partly wrong, yeah you'll go around, and like every other Zelda game, you'll get new items to access new areas. However, the minish cap is used to shrink you down and is what's used to solve certain puzzles. You can shrink and unshrink yourself at will. Nothing special, but this game is being made by the Oracle Zelda developers, and those two were fairly good GBC games.

I tend not to look forward to GBA games, as I pick them up mainly as a diversion more than anything.

We were playing Five minute quarters, and yes even a mediocre running game can eat those five minutes alive when it's paired with a halfway decent passing attack. I could eat a 1:30 at least on each 3 play series if I wanted to, but 7:00 quarters won't remedy that, and not everyone will take all 30 seconds between snaps.
3222  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / WinXP Sucks. on: August 15, 2004, 05:16:45 AM
Ron, if you haven't done so allready, unistall almost everything that comes pre-installed on the machine. Dell adds in crap even when you tell them not to, and a lot of it runs an .exe or two at startup.

On top of Adaware and Spybot, get Hijackthis.exe. Sorry no link but a simple google search will get it for you. Hijackthis will give you a nice pretty log of everything running on your machine, and and any odd files, reg keys etc. that it finds and thinks could be a problem. It's up to you to decide however.

The key to keeping that machine running fresh and new, is disabling the backup logging program that's native to Xp and running in new Dell systems. You can disable that in System Properties off of " My Computer". That alone will free up some memory.

There's a ton of other stuff to disable using good old msconfig in the run function, but I'm not the best at typing it out and explaining it. Just check out the Hardware Help Forum over at GoneGold, all you need is detailed there.

Good luck, and enjoy that new PC smell.
3223  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / 2k5 Post Game Commentary - CG/GG Games Only Please on: August 15, 2004, 05:08:14 AM
I know you're asking for CG/GG games only, but damn if I shouldn't tell you all about this game I had the other night.

Panthers vs. Chiefs.

1st quarter
I was the Chiefs. I took the opening drive, got an easy touchdown and was really feeling good about myself. I force a 3 and out and I know that I can rain down on this guy. He stymies my offense, gets the ball back and uses Davis to bruise me and Muhammed to make some amazing catches. He ties the game at Seven going into the Second Quarter. I'm thinking that this could be a tough game.

2nd quarter
Once again he holds me back after a couple of plays. I was good at not going 3 and out. Anyways, he sticks to his beat me with Steven Davis for 2 plays and then throw to Muhammed on 3rd, and it works. He proceeds to eat the Second Quarter clock alive and marches to a go ahead score with 40 or so seconds remaining. I take the kickoff back to my 24 and turn in a Five play 76 yard drive in 39 seconds or so. I know my Chiefs a lot better than he knows his Panthers. So Heading into halftime you're looking at a 14 all endeavor. Blood is pumping as I can see this one will be more interesting than tough.

3rd quarter
I kickoff to him and he proceeds to again eat up the clock with slow play selections, davis runs and great 3rd down passing. I swear I thought I had about 10 three and outs in the entire game that his clever passing got him out of. He takes the ball into the endzone and goes up 21 - 14. Fortunately I am not daunted and non-chalantly take the ball and go three and out! I punt it away and FINALLY get a three and out on the guy. Insignificant punt return by Hall, and I get the ball and decide to try something different. I form up in a two back, one tightend and two receiver set. Split Tony Gonzalez out to the slot with motion, recognize the safety blitz, make sure I have backfield blocking and hot route Tony into a deep route. NO ONE covers him and hit him dead on for a 50 plus yard TD. I just feel like I can score anytime I want, it's just a matter of having the ball. Before the end of 3rd we swap a series and I end out the 3rd punting to him. Little did I know how hairy it was going to get.

4th quarter
He takes the ball at the top of the quarter and goes into his grind out the clock mode because he's certain I can't stop him. He's right, I can't, but I can contain him. He proceeds to burn the clock down past the two minute warning. I've burnt through all my Time Outs, and he's inside the 30 looking to kill the clock and get a last second score. Knowing I couldn't stop the clock, and feeling cocky enough that I can score again I let Davis take the ball outside and run it in for a TD. I was actually taking the closest defenders and running them away from him. I even moved every to one side pre-snap. This guy must've had a really short memory or just poor football sense because he bit the bait and took it to the house and gave me the ball back with an eternity to score, 1:40 or so on the clock. I waste no time scoring and tieing the game again at 28 now. I halfway considered the 2-point, but something told me this guy wasn't all there at the time.

So I kick it off, he gets a decent runback, has all three Timeouts and could easily score. He uses about five plays, a timeout and gets the ball just past half field. I stop him on second down and 8, incomplete pass. I nail Steven Davis on the next play making it 4th and 5 or so around my 40 yard line. He uses his second time out and you could cut the tension with a knife, it was as exciting as any Playoff game I've seen. His kicker doesn't have the leg, and I guess he's not the best at it anyways. The whole time I'm wondering why he just didn't run the clock out and take it to OT with a better chance to win for him, I've got no timeouts and he should've killed the clock instead of throwing a lot of incomplete passes. So on fourth down he gets cute and runs the ball thinking that the game will end. I stop him in the backfield.

There's 24 seconds on the clock, I line up in a three wide set, hot the slot into a post on linebacker coverage it looks like. Hike the ball, five step drop, Trent Green looks to Morton, covered, Looks to Kennison on the sidelines, covered and checks down to the slot, Dante hall has a few steps on a zone playing backer downfield about twenty yards, with no safety in sight. I call his number, he makes the catch, the other guy switches to the defender, pooches a tackle completely and I run that ball almost 50 yards untouched and Slowly, yes Slowly( I wanted to kill some of the clock darnit!) walk into the endzone Deion Sanders Style. I was about to explode with excitement. Games Do not get any better than a see-saw battle ending on the pretty much last play. I kick the field goal, go up 35-28, only my second time leading the game since the opening drive, and kickoff a low liner to him with 11 seconds left. He gets tackled, about 7 seconds remaining he gets in two Hail Marys with no luck and I feel like I've won the superbowl.

I went and gave the guy good feedback, and a friend invite too. He was a good solid player, and we matched up fairly well. Like I said I just knew what I could do with my team. It was a great game, and the sole reason to keep ESPN.

On a side note. Why do we make a big deal about all the presentation in the game when A: It's really not that good.(berman's picked plays are retarded) B: We all skip it in multiplayer games and probably most of us skip it in singleplayer after seeing it once or twice. I've just read so much about people gushing over the presentation, and I guess it's just not my thing.

ESPN is retarded. I got a disconnect win because Pr0ner had some connection problems. I didn't feel too bad because I did beat him 59 to 45 in a head to head, but still.

Anyone else notice how the team ratings have dropped online?

3235  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / FF series question on: August 01, 2004, 12:46:45 PM
when did you play FF6? was it back in 94/95 or so when it came out on SNES? Or was it the PSX remake. That could have an influence.

It's partly nostalgia, but for a lot of us FFX wasn't as great as you seem to remember it. I thought the characters were weak and fairly thin at best. I never felt connected to the characters or the world like I did when I played FF3/6 back then. I also felt that the story was much more interesting in 6 as well. So I never was really impressed by what went on in X, just thought that it was cool.

The way I see it, 6 set the bar for future FF games, and even when it comes to the very solid X, it really only feels like a meager extension of what was established. Sure sure, the technology is better so the graphics are pretty, but who really plays RPGS for graphics? It's the characters and story that wasn't really advanced past the rut that some fans felt Square had fallen into.

I think it's a mixture of things, but I am sure you can chalk a lot up to nostalgia, and a lot of it depends on when you played 6 for the first time.

Here's another thing, there's a pretty large contingent who still feel that 5 is the best game in the series. It's crazy how vastly different opinions get on the series.
3236  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Review Discussion: Tales of Symphonia on: July 31, 2004, 06:45:55 PM
Foxmerc, if you would play the game you'd know that Lloyd isn't a "kid" he's 18 iirc, same age as your beloved Tidus, and not half as annoying.

I find it funny that you enjoyed FFX but would write off TOS. Tales is the superior game in every aspect.

Only thing I didn't like about the review was the knock on the overworld. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a RPG with a better overworld, that's available now. Most of them don't use them, but I just don't see where the ps1 comment is is applicable.

Also could add that the replayability stems from more than just difficulty changes. You earn something called grade throughout the game and can use this at the end of the game to buy upgrades or changes or a variety of other things that have an affect on the next playthrough. You can't easily complete certain objectives the first time through the game and buying stuff at the grade shop makes it possible for people who really want to complete the game. I think it's a good incentive to atleast play through it twice.

Oh yeah forgot one thing, I didn't see it mentioned, but I don't know if Tim knows that you can do a lot of stuff out of order in the game. The gameworld is designed so that you can get around certain things, like taking the boat ride. This effects all sorts of interactions and what have you. You can also tackle temples in different orders, can get summons at different times giving them different difficulties. I could go on, but it should be noted that the game can play very different each play through.

There's even a character that leaves that you can get back if you've done certain relationship building skits. The game's much deeper then I've seen any review give it credit for, and I understand that's a common trait in all Tales games.
