Ingame tag: StorzOO.

There are some good replay that can show you the tactics involved, like this one:

Interesting video and a good watch, anyone fancy putting their hand up if they saw a single supply truck - is that a QED smile

* tell a lie I can see them but hopefully it makes it clear what a non issue the supply side is done if play correctly

When's a game gonna let us be generals who don't have to micro manage every unit and supply truck?

They do exist, just not in any kind of high-end 3D graphics form that I recall seeing. What does come to mind are the Command Ops or Airborne Assault series from Panther Games or the recently released (and well received) Steam and Iron from NWS, which clocks in at a whopping 3MB download.  icon_wink

Armoured Brigade was also recommended to me Would be interested, in another thread, if anyone downloads it (it's free) and tries it.

I would have to assume that if something keeps people from playing it, it should be even more important than something that affects people who are playing.  At least the things that affect people already playing obviously aren't irritating enough to keep them from playing or they would be in the first group.

That is kind of what I am saying but I'm really saying that if you were playing it wouldn't be that big a deal and you may eventually agree with the call on how it works smile I think Storz said it more eloquently than I do smile hark you know me I am the most fumble fisted player on this earth, in capable of stringing attack sequences in demigod or lol and I'm enjoying a game you all feel is too micro managed smile

I've just stopped playing lol as I'm enjoying this so much and that's just on the mp element smile

Storz, what's your ingame tag, mine is tals.
44  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wargame - European Escalation on: February 20, 2012, 09:43:07 PM
It's really not a big deal - as I tried to intimate if no other players view this as critical it isn't impacting gameplay for those currently playing it. Really hard to explain the games but they are a lot of fun and each game at the moment I'm learning more where I made a strategic error or should have thought about x units etc - not played a game like this before. I did discover shift allows you to stack orders so I can set a unit to a waypoint, unload and have him return - though this doesnn't work for supply. Supply also repairs so is quite a critical benefit if used correctly - particularly with infantry or high powered low ammo units.

Now I have played it more I think it is totally intentional the micro management aspect as you get down and dirty as battles develop and it does work - but for those who fear mm they're have to wait for a demo smile
45  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wargame - European Escalation on: February 20, 2012, 04:07:46 PM
In terms of control the two games are very similar, the main difference is that in this one you need to think about supply and some of the user interface in EE is not as good - but the ability to play 1v1 I love and as well as the ability to play all the units, graphics are a lot better in this.

The micro is strange, it's not as bad as it may appear - when I play you very much focus on battles that are occuring and trying to out manoeuvre your opponent, the first 5/10 minutes of the game may not see any action as you try and set up your positions. I've been playing around with dropping special forces at the enemy base, seems to have a reasonable success - though need to get used to getting them back in transport and away. The delay to load into helis is quite intentionally painful frown But certainly you tend to pull into battles as needed, I think it works. I've also learnt that using move fast makes a huge difference to how far your units can move smile Early days though
46  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Wargame - European Escalation on: February 20, 2012, 04:14:49 AM
I think it is interesting that there is a suggestions thread in the forum and I don't think anyone has requested an easier system for supply smile

The thread is worth a read as a suggestion can give an idea what players feel is missing

in terms of how it works in game, you get your supply truck to a position and it then supplies all the units in the vicinity so they don't have to physically touch a unit. The game certainly makes you very aware of supply issue you would face but that for instance makes it a reasonable strategy to take out supply lines and having an easy way to supply I don't think would fit with the game. Micromanagement wise, yes it's massive on micro - other than not being able to see where units are going I don't think it's a huge issue but I can understand the concern. Bear in mind the first video was by a seasoned beta player and the second by effectively a noob player that had only a few games under their belt. The game does track your actions per minute and a vet pointed out he does around 10 a minute which is probably nothing compared to say Starcraft 2

In terms of ai - again if you mean your own, that is the game. If you mean for playing against the computer that facet isn't yet in game so can't say.

49  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Wargame - European Escalation on: February 12, 2012, 10:05:53 AM
This is one of those games that came out of nowhere for me. By the makers of Ruse, which is probably not a great selling point

It comes across as similar to World in Conflict. Having purchased it and briefly played in the MP I would say it is similar in some aspects but its a grander setting, the maps are far bigger and the units more diverse. You are also not limited to a particular type of unit.

This video done by one of the fans gives a great idea on how to play the game and what the game is about

I preordered it which gets you straight into the beta via steam. Its an mp beta but you can set up and play with noone so if you want to get yourself comfortable with the controls etc that is possible.

Had one of those awesome experiences in this game a couple of nights ago. We had a 4 man premade and the dreaded 1 man random. The guy went top and was doing well in his lane but when he came to assist it would always go wrong or he put himself into too much risk. Either way 25 minute mark after losing a team fight he was like Noobs i'm out of here.

5 minutes later - I jest not, we had one. The other team decided to take advantage and split push, Lee sin jumped on the twower I ulted as sona, he went down we chased the other team to the nexus and won, game over smile Now if we hadn't taken down that nexus at that point I have no doubt we would have lost but it was awesome smile

Is there a Single Player mode on DD?

From the Q&A

Q: Is Dungeon Defenders online only?
A: No, it is not online only. You can play through the entire campaign and challenge missions by yourself; in fact, during the build phase you can switch between character classes for a more varied defense! However, the game is meant for 4-player co-op, and we highly encourage everyone to play with friends locally or online.

tals or talsworthy - my profile picture if the flower from Plants and Zombies smile

re the masteries, when you change between EU and US the masteries are held in the same place so the best thing todo is to keep the masteries you use on US different to EU (with 10 mastery pages this is fairly easy)- they only get 'damaged' when you use one and if you are lev 30 on one and 10 on the other you have too many masteries to be allowed smile

I'm back to being addicted to this game all over again after a year long hiatus. Dominion is very fun and fast paced, seems to be more forgiving and less frustrating than the regular summon mode. Also, this is probably the most expensive free game I have ever played  icon_smile

Where do you guys meet up - through steam or voice. I have a Euro group but my level 16 US is always happy to join you guys. Dominion isn't getting much of my love but mainly because the strategy doesn't match the SR intensity. Still fun though smile

Ridah is it now out of beta.

My view is its a lot of fun, not quite as strategic and I'll probably play it more than summoners just because an hour is a long time to reserve whereas 20 mins gets you almost the same fun slywink

You're blind and don't want to hear that anything is better that this shitty free game. So who's fanboy? smile

So are you crying loud when i say DotA has bigger penis than LoL? smile Like a  child.

I think you misunderstand me, if DOTA2 looked like LOL I would be disappointed. I had been pretty confident that icefrog hasn't got much imagination in him and unfortunately at this point i've been proved right. Time will tell but at this point I cannot see this being that fun. Hark captures my thoughts better than I could though, Dominion - now that does look fun smile

I just hope the game won't be free to play with shitty skins/heroes buying. I think it's better for e-sport game that you have to pay certain amount of money (i don't mind it being $50) and have everything unlocked/the same as all your competitors.

Kossack you are such a Hon fanboi its not true. Your reasons are nonsensical - commercially it is whatever will make them the most money, If you take the LOL model then it smashed Hon so far into the ground they're still trying to find the surface - ohhh wait Hon has a F2P model now.

LoL's F2P model is the best I have seem , you can play the game totally free for ever and have the same advantage as someone who puts a load of money in the game - who are you to put down that people may like skins or not.

Now turn your fanboi stuff off - as it is a true turn off and keep to DOTA 2 smile

When they were doing the dreamhack games I heard hon players were not happy that lol had 200k viewers when they could only muster 6k - I think the dota figures are either out of date or specific regions like Korea.

Regarding the actual game - I can probably dig out my concerns a year ago regarding icefrogs capability of original thought...

MOBA is huge, LOL has a peak daily play figure of +500,000 with 4 million people playing it a month. That said I saw some screenshots a couple of days ago which just said HON 2 to me - if this is the case it won't pull the LOL crowd, Valve or not.

Luckily the size of the EU mumble >30 people means its usual to have quite a few premades kicking off in the EU time zone smile

Tried it, and while I think it's a good game, it's not for me.

The matches seem to take forever. Coming off of Dawn of War 2 where you can get an amazing match in 15-20 minutes, there are games that drag for 30+ minutes. Not a fan of the Warcraft 3 style style and pacing as well.

lol, a lot of games actually cross over into the 1 hour mark, or close, so sounds like you wouldn't like it.  Those can get pretty long in the tooth, but also can feel very epic when you win.  For 5v5 the fastest a game can end is 20 minutes (generally through surrender).  Not sure on 3v3, which is shorter/faster.

Yep some games can be unbelievable that you wonder how you can ever play anything else, other games have you wanting to bin it. If it's a time issue then definitely it won't suit - though 3v3 are more the 30 min mark. However if its a case of tried it and don't like it generally until you are past level 10 you won't actually understand the game - and I commonly find level 20 players who experience premade for the first time and can't believe how different the play is.
77  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: June 27, 2011, 05:48:43 PM Is better smile But yes both are good sites.

Unfortunately it's the internet which is why people rage - thankfully they do police it but still the behaviour is unacceptable. However the game is very snowbally so get some kills and you're feel invincible - go the other way and it all goes down hill very quickly smile
78  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: June 27, 2011, 05:33:47 AM
That link I posted a few posts up is worth a quick gander, some of the videos cover the obvious (to me) but not obvious for a new player. So for example if you have your minions attacking an enemy tower the tower will not hit you - unless you hit the enemy champ in it's range then it will smile Also don't hit an enemy minion until just before it dies - sounds crazy but if you just strike them the whole time your minions have an advantage and will move towards the enemy tower which then gives your opponent effectively an extra hand. The best place for the enemy minions early on is just outside the range of your tower - so you can last hit them.

If you guys are ever playing when I play (8pm GMT most nights) then give me a ping, quite happy to either use my US account (level 17) or create a new account.

The game does treat premade teams (3 players or more) as having an advantage in match making so you can find you end up playing higher level teams than you are ready for with the premade. 2 players is quite a sweet spot certainly early on. You can also just play against the AI which till about level 10 will probably challenge as much as a human team - then it starts changing into a different game smile

Heheh thanks.  I realize I probably shoulda come here first and asked the good people around to show me the ropes instead of pugging it.  I'd like to learn the game, seems like fun, but this mornings experiences with it left me cold.

It's just the internet for you - playing against the AI should be a very chilled out experience for all but when you have a bunch of 10 year olds in the team anything can happen. I set up the mumble server purely to ensure that I get to play against reasonably like minded people who just want to enjoy what is a fantastic game.

I suggest you have a read of the first post of this thread where I have tried to collate a lot of initial learning stuff. If you play on EU servers I can give you mumble access for my server (30+ people) on US I would suggest Gamers With Jobs and QT3 both have people - GWJ being my preference smile
