I'm a total noob so will need some help tips thx.

Ok first of the game plays very differently when you start to when you hit level 30. In some ways it can be a lot more fun you can experiment a lot which seems to go to an extent at higher levels.

I placed a load of resources on page 1 of this thread

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18105400

Until you get to level 20 try not to waste ip, so don't buy runes - level 3 long terms are the only ones worth having. Masteries just pick what you like to see the effect they have - you can reset them and have multiple sets so it is fine to experiment.

Try to use as many different champions as you can, this will stand you in good stead later on - find the type that suit you.

Gaming streams can be worth watching or spectate others to get a feel for the game flow. Try not to play too much coop, it's very easy and whilst it helps to learn champs it bears no reflection to the game. I can absolutely own in coop but am a average player at best against others.

Other tips, it feels like the target is to get your minions to the opponents tower as quickly as possible. However the trick is controlling where the minions meet and if possible get the minions closer to your tower. That gives you the protection of your tower. A real noob mistake is to push like mad to the other tower - you miss last hits, will talk on that in a min and then you are open to being ganked (ambushed) by the enemy team. Also remember that if you are hitting an enemy champion in range of their tower it will direct its fire on you.

Last hits, if you kill the enemy minion you get the gold for it, getting gold is essential in the game so you time the last hit on the minion to try and ensure you get the gold. Conversely you want to be thinking about the enemy champions movement and trying to disuade him from the last hit and effectively reducing his gold flow in the game. Gold is everything in the game - it is a snowball game, more gold means more advantage.

Item wise in shop I would go with recommended items till you get comfortable with it.

Best tip is watch(spectate) one of us in game - it will still play different at a low level but the concepts will still be true and will help.

Actually playing with us till you are plus 10 and really plus 20 is quite difficult as rune and mastery advantage cannot be over stated and if you play with our premade teams the system then effectively treats you at our level and matches accordingly.

I have been playing the game now for 3 years, it is an incredibly satisfying social experience and seems to suit all sorts. I like playing with other people I know so I will generally only play in a team I know. Others like the challenge to improve their ratings.

Best tip, run the tutorial, play a coop game and then dive into pvp summonses rift where the true game is.

Post any questions smile

Yes still playing here but on eu, the game has a remarkably high retention rate. If you're starting up don't get to tied in with the role just yet and definitely don't just stick with one champion. Although it is painful try the different champs - even if you try a champ and vow never to play it again you will at least understand some of the weaknesses and difficulties of playing that champ. If eu players are lurking speak up and come and join me, I have a group of players that usually get a couple of games in most evenings - despite the gw2 hit smile

I've stopped playing, you really need other people to play with in order be effective. It's been about a month since I've played, just got tired of the trolls and dickheads.

I'd agree with this, If you played on EUW then I have a reasonably well frequented mumble server that I setup primarily for this reason. We always groan when we have 4, have a random that wants a particular position in almost all cases it will be a disaster. We're not great but we do all work together as a team. The randoms who give a number of positions tend to be better.

I find it difficult to play solo anymore in this game, although if I do my recommendation is ranked as that ensure all the teams are solo or duo
8  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: July 24, 2012, 05:45:27 PM
Unfortunately not - I think the premise of Riot was lunchtime games (or something similar). League kind of blew them away and I think that is where their energies have gone. But they will have to keep innovating, which imho they seem to be doing nicely.
9  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: July 24, 2012, 04:50:35 PM
I still play daily most nights, just love the whole feel of the combat (albeit I have a limited champion list I use). Now if they could translate this into a MMO - that would be something else smile

I tend to chat about the game in another forum but always happy to chat in here smile

Yep I played gangplank against riven last night, neither us could kill each other, though I would say I was easily the stronger of the two. I had the advantage of farm, but not by enough and moving to mid and lane he effectively won his team the game.
15  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III on: April 22, 2012, 05:54:21 AM
I'm definitely in, initially I was quite surprised how it wasn't as spectacular looking as I expected but I love all the touches, the journals that read to you as you continue your game. The story is nicely done, combat is quick - though I do prefer my moba combat style to this it does work well. I like the various screens opening in a logical way so they don't clutter the screen and the comparison with equipped and non equipped. Some are obvious touches and have been done before but IMHO this is all done right. Stress test, it's fine - I still think a company that pulls in millions could have done it differently to make it a better experience, not without faults but some like server full can be predicted and can be handled better at the client end but that  wasn't going to put me off. What would have put me off would have been those initial core aspects and those are looking mighty fine smile

Wait until they screw up launch, then whine.  If you can't get in, do something else.

No it definitely isn't whining, and tbh if these issues are revalent at launch I would be p******. For some reason people see stress test and have no thoughts how that test could be better. I've played little over an hour of this game by choice this weekend, that's how much it's impacting my life lol.

As I said if you were next to me you'd see how seriously this isn't an issue. But I do get p****** with this it's a stress test get over it attitude more than any issue the stress test has smile

No Tals, I'm on the US servers.

All I can think then is assuming you haven't got in at all then you have a firewall issue as that error is the same you get when the server doesn't exist.

That's a fair enough opinion... but man, I think you guys are all crazy. It's advertised as an open beta/stress test, it's advertised there may be connection issues, they're clearly not doing all the things they'll do at retail for uptime, so if you bail now, based on something that has advertised and admitted differences to the way they'll handle retail, I think you're making a mistake. Just one man's opinion, of course - but y'all nuts.

If we we in a room together you'd see how totally unconcerned I was regarding this - just think there are better ways.

That said expect a fairly strong post should I see a server full message on go live - I will be upset then.....
20  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III on: April 21, 2012, 03:29:20 PM
Blacka that error is I believe because you have selected eu as the servers, go into options and change to Americas and you'll then get the server full message smile

Euro servers arn't included in the stress test - guess they are confident if it works in us it will work in eu, so many assumptions smile

On a serious note because of the time zones I found 9am a good time to get in
21  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III on: April 21, 2012, 02:38:42 PM
Possibly, I think I'm on a losing wicket re this argument. I could state queue lengths etc can also be tuned so they can push more or less people to a server. I could also argue that if they are planing to implement queues that it would be pertinent to stress test those as well but I suspect I will be wasting my breath and better just to wait for a release smile
22  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Diablo III on: April 21, 2012, 02:20:56 PM
You are purposely missing my point, I don't have a problem in stress tests with slowness difficulty to connect, crashing tbh any difficulty on the test, but I expect it to be properly catered for. My issue is that they should treat this as a live event - it is after all less than a months to release so I am surprised that they do not have a better mechanism to handle when a server is full beyond a very basic server full message and having to rinse and repeat with no idea if you can get in or not.

Let's wait to release but I truly hope no one sees a server full message on release and having this random I may get in but most likely I won't. If memory serves me right wow had this on release and shortly afterwards implemented the queues, all the wrong way round IMHO. I could be wrong about which mmo put the queue in after release and no doubt after the stress test when no doubt good intentioned fellows argued as you do smile

Well, I would love to try this out, but I still can't log in.  Getting error code 37 that the servers are too busy.

Just need to go in at off peak times, but hopefully this isn't indicative of release date. Not sure why they culdn't have implemented queues, they have enough experience of this type of thing

The whole point of this is a stress test, remember? No point if they have the servers at smooth, playable capacity - they want to turn all their fancy queue management off, throw as many players on individual servers as possible, and see just how far they can push it before the server melts down.

Really, I'm sort of shocked by how many people read 'open beta/stress test' as 'official demo' - it's not always about you.  icon_wink

I get your point, but are you saying when the servers are maxed that this is what will happen and they didn't predict this. I expected an issue getting in but a little bit bet than having to endlessly retry logging in. It is a beta but I'd view part of the testing to be how they handle maxed servers and how it currently dos it is not acceptable. Cross fingers it will be handled better at release.

Actual game when I get in is pretty impressive

Torchlight didn't have a story to speak of, so whilst some of the gameplay wasn't bad at the end I lost interest playing it as it was very much rinse and repeat. When I fired D3 up I was quite disappointed with what I saw but the more I play it the more I am wow this is really really good

Has anyone else noticed that he's putting a lot of effort into this DPU-16 computer? An emulated 16-bit CPU that can be programmed via assembly language from which you can create higher-level languages? I guess that's fun but I would hope there is a way to import code that other people have created so I don't have to do that myself.

This is the part of the game I don't get. I love the space stuff but the processor aspect sounds like it could take over the game which would be bad IMHO.

I get the Kage's Lucky Pick when I play Lux/Morgana support.  I usually play those champs as AP carries so when I switch to support, I tend to be really aggressive.  I will poke them hard.  Just played a rank with Lux support and I had a Graves with me.  We just devastated the other two in our lane.  It doesn't go quiet as well if the AD carry is not in sync with my playstyle.

In my view if you play a non sustain support this is the only way to play it, if you play any other way against a sustain support then you're ad will keep getting poked back to base. If I am ad I far prefer sustain because the ads job is to farm and anything that puts that at risk gimps him.
30  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: April 20, 2012, 12:23:29 PM
Funnily enough was playing on EU East with my level 5 character last night (as EU West was broken) and was thinking the same thing. This poor Morgana player - on opposing team, was building a totally mad setup, was positioning herself in ridiculous scenarios and not appretiating even simple matters like minions start attacking you if you attack the opposing champions.

I suspect her team were giving huge amounts of grief - some of it we got to see frown Really needs a good mentoring system.

I still love the game. Had been playing support for a while and my tips on that are build the two gold items (Philo stone first) then heart of gold second - before you get boots. Set your masteries to high start gold which allows you to buy 2 vision wards and 1 normal ward. The vision ward is excellent - place it in the bush just above you and as close to the dragon as possible - that way you spot any wards they place. I then keep the other ward in reserve either for putting down on our lanes bush if we are pushed hard to clear any of there wards out or in their bush if we are pushing hard and I want to make sure they can't see me. As support don't last hit - absolutely critical that the ad carry farms.

You may know the above but i've seen some support just try to build a normal build (I used to do this) and no wards and it just isn't going to work.

My favourite character at the moment is Gang Plank. For him I start with armour and a few health pots ->going for wriggles. I then build my q up and don't use this for last hitting the minions I pretty much use it to poke the opposing champion. Absolutely fantastic poke and keeps me able to farm as mele. I use  his ultimate to either push lanes we are not in or as a save for my team till we start proper team fights. Not great at GP but getting better.

Game wise majority of games I play draft mode to stop lol teams being created which just ruins the experience smile

My other huge tip, try and experiment with all the different positions. I really made it hard for myself playing only easier characters and ones I enjoyed on my journey to 30. When you get to level 30 it becomes almost a different game - particularly as premades
31  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: League of Legends - Free to Play on: April 20, 2012, 05:05:21 AM
Tbh at low level all bets are off and it's almost free for all. Once you get to level 30 it sorts itself out, though it's better to team up as randoms will always be well random smile

I wasn't planning on getting this one for quite a while but a UK game website had it on for the equivalent of about $15 so I picked it up! Just played through the first mission only and damn it seems pretty fun! Of course it was only the first mission so later missions might end up being a little overwhelming for me as new units are unlocked and there's no pause but so far it seems like a perfect balance between the arcadey RTS games and the more hardcore simulators like Combat Mission.

I love the feel of the game and suspect I'll keep cracking it open from time to time, the cautious play feels more 'right' than the other war setting rts. My only issue is the play gets quite deep:intense/hard as the missions move on which has stopped me playing it more. 1v1 mp was very good in beta and I need to try that

No nukes, on a 1v1 basis you can play against the ai. If you are looking more for a coop challenge then you need to wait a few weeks when they are going to bring that in. The campaign imho is very good and very replayable.

Not sure how long the campaign is, it's 16 scenarios in all. I'm on number 4 which is significantly more difficult than the previous ones. Not touched mp since release as I am enjoying these so much. Number 3 took about 30 mins for me, number 4 is longer. Though that could be my ineptness strategically. It also has 1 v ai on all the maps. All the campaign scenarios have a target score - non I have maxed yet and can be replayed.

Hmm. Yeah I think it is probably worth it, but possibly get another view smile
