I got it for my wife as she's been dreaming of going SCUBA diving but will never realize that dream due to her being epileptic.

Unintended side effect is that I have missed two days of TV watching.

Thank goodness most of what I watch is waiting for me on the DVR.  Now if I can just keep her off of the Wii long enough for me to view them.

Not necessarily.  Maybe they're just space-hippies terraforming Mars into a great big pot farm or maybe they're cooking up some Plutonium Nyborg.

where's Snoopy?  icon_wink

The news had come out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again.

Twas the night before Christmas, 40 below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron, fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings Snoopy knew he was caught.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out, "Merry Christmas, my friend"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy, our hero, saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day.

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

Even better, one of the studs that you attach the shoulder strap to... is on the bottom of the guitar, and is seemingly not removable.  Therefore, I can't actually wear the guitar, but must hold it all times.

Mine came configured that way out of the box.  I unscrewed the stud and screwed into the top hole.

Copied from my post at OO:

I too have had a chance to play the demo. I left work an hour early today just so I could run down to the Best Buy before they got crazy busy.

Rock Band is going to be five cups of unfiltered awesome sauce.

I managed to play several songs before having to leave to pick up my wife from work and here are some quick impressions.

The Guitar -

1. I really liked the feel of the guitar. It's size and heft give it a very good approximation of an actual guitar.

2. The strum bar felt really good to me and more accurately portrays what strumming should feel like. I can see where some might feel it seems a bit mushy but if you actually strum it rather than tap or push it like I've seen people do with the GH2 guitars it feels quite natural.

3. I didin't get a chance to try out the solo keys on the other end of the fret board because quite frankly I'd forgotten they were there until the end of the song and I only played one song on guitar because I was primarily interested in...

The Drums -

1. The size. This is going to be both a blessing and a curse. They're not so big as to be inconvenient to move or store but they are a lot smaller than I would really like.

2. As a drummer in a previous life (pre-Navy) I was used to the traditional setup which placed the high-hat to the left of the snare and would cross over my left hand with my right to play it. This setup places the highhat to the right of the snare. It messed me up a couple of times as I instinctively would try to reach over my right arm when going back to the high hat. However, after about the third song I had pretty much broken that habit.

3. However, I had a harder time trying to break my crash cymbal habit and ended up either completely missing the cymbal pad or hitting the top rim of the pad due to my wanting to hit where the cymbal would normally be instead of where the pad is. Again, with time this will be a habit that I can break.

4. When I used to play drums I would bring the bead of the stick back to the drum head between beats. On an actual drum that would not be a problem but I still found myself doing the same thing only the game will now sometimes interpret that little tap as a strike and I would break streaks because of it.

5. I will definitely be buying a new throne for this.

6. The actual tapping sound of the sticks on the pads will definitely be very noticeable at first and likely will be distracting but I think that's something that will be easily ignored once you get into it.

7. I probably shouldn't have tried Tom Sawyer on Hard as my first introduction but hey, I was feeling cocky.  I survived it but only barely.

8. Exuberant drum solos are cool and all but that habit of trying to hit where the cymbal should be instead of where the pad is lead to an emberrasing incident where I knocked over a display of KISS and Motley Crue guitar faceplates.

To sum up, this game will rock and rock hard.

You know, Captain America is such a big guy. He has the big ass shield and overall just a lot of bigness for the character.

Why give him 1 colt 1911 pistol? Does that not seem out of proportion with everything else? Dual pistols woud be cool, or attach a chaingun to the shield or something. But I mean 1 pistol just looks retarded. I mean how is that going to play out.

"Captain America uses his shield for cover, then dives out from his shield, pistol blazing and fires off a stunning 8 rounds while rolling behind a dumster."

*Captain America reloads*

Something like this would be a bit more appropriate then.

Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
"Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king,
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

You know, it's funny because I had once seriously considered getting a tattoo very much like that.

Two things stopped me though:

1.  I have a hairy chest so the effect would be diffused if not completely ruined.

2.  Chest tattoos really really hurt and I'm a big pussy.

I frequently ride a motorcycle to work as well as do the occasional work related travel so I wanted something that I could use as both a backpack style as well as shoulder slung laptop bag.

What I ended up getting was this:

It's the Overland Travelware Port-Pak Convertible Portfolio/Backpack

and has worked like a champ for the last couple of years.

It has two straps that can fitted to wear like a backpack or you can remove one strap and run the length out on the remaining strap then clip it to the two D-Rings on the top of the bag to allow you to carry it like an ordinary over-the-shoulder type laptop bag.

The four-speed had a custom wood grain gear cover and this is what the guy had routed in for each gear: hang-on, oh-crap, holy shit, and Oh-my-GOD and he wasn't kidding. The thing was mint inside and out. Now here is the downside, it had 4-wheel drum breaks and no power steering, YIKES!!

The '67 Firebird that I had was like that.  It had the 400ci with a TH350 automatic with drum brakes and no power steering.    Parallel parking that thing was like doing 50 push-ups really fast.

Some of you know the story but I was clocked at 156 while slowing down after passing a highway patrolman.

Sorry for the crappy picture:

Hell even Alien:Resurrection isn't all THAT bad if you edit out the last 25 minutes or so.

I mean, how can you not like some of Johnner's dialog:

"Where the fuck are all the army guys!?"

"You're the mechanic. I mostly just hurt people."

----------

However, back to the issue of AvP:Requiem... I'm dissapointed that it's again going to take place on present day Earth and while I'd rather have it in the future on a colony with lots of Colonial Marines mixing it up with our two favorite alien species I'll just have to live with what they give me.

It does piss me off that they've basically said, "fuck canon.  If we give 'em enough acid blood and explosions they'll be happy."
