I can't tell; did you like it?
82  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: What are you buying this week? (08/25) on: August 25, 2014, 01:52:31 PM
Metro Redux also gets released on the PC this week, which I have preordered on Steam.

Wow, that sucks the most. I am so sorry for your loss.
84  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Do you buy DVDs anymore? on: August 19, 2014, 11:14:29 PM
I still pick up a lot of Criterion discs, as they really put together an excellent presentation, along with exhaustive special features.
85  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: August 13, 2014, 06:18:00 PM
Sooo, did anyone else notice the dlc that is being sold on Elite's homepage? I'm sure there's a game I'm forgetting or don't know about, but this may be the first time I've seen a game that cost $150/$75 (depending on which package one has purchased) , and still unfinished in beta, sell dlc. Plus, these $5.00 a pop paint jobs make the horse armor seem positively ideal. Obviously, it is one's choice to purchase the dlc or not, but it is a little off-putting to me that the dev wants to nickel and dime his customers who paid an above average price for a game that isn't even finished yet.

I'm still getting the game eventually, but now I'll feel a little icky.
86  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: August 12, 2014, 07:24:52 PM
Well, I am going to hold off, as I have to spend 2K to fix my car. Stupid real reality keeping me from virtual reality.

88  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Guardians of the Galaxy on: August 06, 2014, 04:14:35 AM
Having never even heard of the comic book prior to the announcement of the film, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It had great action set pieces, funny scenes, and great characters. Chris Pratt  was hilarious, while not being a cartoon, and I loved Groot. All in all, I can't wait to see it again.

As an aside, the preview for "Dumb and Dumber To" that showed before Guardians cracked my shit up. I feel dirty.

I'm with you, Lee. I mean, it is definitely cool that it can identify the drink and provide the nutritional info, but it's just not something I see myself needing.
90  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Elite: Dangerous on: August 04, 2014, 06:41:34 PM
Dammit Tilt, you now have me preordering a damned DK2 for $350. Thankfully, I am developing a desire to experience Elite in VR, so I am truly a developer, thus no lying required!

If you like Metroidvania type games, you will love Traps and Gemstones. It definitely wins the "Awesome Game, Lousy Name" award, but don't let the generic title fool you, this one is great fun, with you exploring the underground tomb, collecting relics and upgrading your equipment. It has the right mix of difficulty and exploration. It reminds me of an old Commodore 64 game "Montezuma's Revenge".

93  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Jack is back - 24 returning on: July 22, 2014, 05:03:03 PM
Yeah, I think that final speech was extremely sad and a succinct way of bringing home the devastation that Alzheimer's disease can have on the victim, their family, and their friends. Also, William Devane is the man.
94  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: This is Jim Rockford at the tone leave your name and messag I' in Heaven on: July 21, 2014, 02:08:56 PM
I always enjoyed him in movies and TV. For my money, he had one of the finest voices in the business, filled with humor and just a little weariness. Murphy's Romance has always been a favorite.
95  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Pocket Gamer's 100 most anticipated iOS/Android games on: July 17, 2014, 10:45:23 PM
Yeah, I agree about Nimblebit. I really wanted to enjoy their "Pocket Planes" and "Pocket Trains" games, but there just wasn't enough to do.
96  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Jack is back - 24 returning on: July 16, 2014, 09:28:34 PM
They'll bring it back; I'm sure that's one of the reasons he's off to the gulag. They aren't going to leave his story hanging like that.
97  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Jack is back - 24 returning on: July 16, 2014, 05:52:22 AM
24 was killing off major characters long before Game of Thrones made it cool. I really enjoyed this season a lot, definitely its best since S5. The 12 hour season helps them to cut out the fat. I was just disappointed that they didn't bring back the cougar from S2 to wreak vengeance for missing out on eating Kim.
98  Gaming / Console / PC Gaming / Re: Alien: Isolation announced - kinda looks good? on: July 09, 2014, 06:25:18 PM
I think every game can use 100% more Skerritt.

Also, (and I never do this)  preordered!

CNN just posted breaking news that he has died. No article at this moment, though I know he was sick with something for a while now. In any case, it's a real shame to see a man of his talent and character pass away at such a young age.
101  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: Apple banning apps that reward video ads/sharing on: June 12, 2014, 02:45:39 AM
I don't know, this one doesn't bother me as long as it was my option to watch the videos. There's a game called Another Case Solved, where you play a detective who's basically solving minigames. At your office, the phone rings periodically, and if you pick it up, you get the choice to watch a quick video and get free currency. It's very unobtrusive, and can be helpful if I only need a couple more bucks to to buy something.

Plus, it sounds like another way to gouge the devs/publishers by charging them for the privilege of using this system, and thus the games get more expensive.

111  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Godzilla to return to American shores on: May 22, 2014, 12:56:32 AM
Saw it today. I enjoyed tthe film overall, though I think Aaron Taylor-Johnson showed less emotional range than the dead MUTO. I wish they had kept Cranston around, especially since he had a real emotional investment in seeing these creatures killed. His son just kept coincidentally ending up in the creatures' vicinity and  emotionlessly hiding out. The monster part of the film was very good. The action was framed well; too often, these movies use shaky cam, but this one allowed me to actually enjoy what fighting they showed, though I really wanted to see their first meet-up.
112  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Couldn't Solve it Then, Can't Solve it now. on: May 19, 2014, 02:01:37 PM
How can you not solve only one side? If the rest of the sides are all solved (i.e., one color), than shouldn't the last side also be one color?
113  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: (TV-ABC) Marvel's Agent Carter on: May 13, 2014, 01:17:40 AM
Plus, it is differentiating itself with a female protagonist. I'm sure ABC/Marvel would love to pull in more of the ladies. Frankly, I think the show could be fun, as it hasn't been explored that much within the movies.
114  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: (TV-ABC) Marvel's Agent Carter on: May 12, 2014, 09:53:37 PM
Yeah, I don't really see why there is any confusion on what the show is going to be about. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

117  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Movie]The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on: May 05, 2014, 10:27:47 PM
I have to say, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would, definitely more than I liked the first one. It certainly could have been shorter (I would have been fine without the parental story line), and I wonder if Sally Field gave Jamie Foxx pointers on his character ("You like me, you really like me!), but I found the main story to be affecting. I thought that Harry's transformation into the Green Goblin was much more satisfying than in Spidey 1. Garfield and Stone had real chemistry, which is odd, as most real life couples seem to fizzle on-screen.

Spoiler for Hiden:
I thought the ending was really well done. Gwen's speech was just a little too on point for what Peter was going through, but I really felt that loss.

I also thought that this film actually handled the three villains well, better than DKR or Spidey 3. Paul Giamatti had no business being in the film (aside from wanting that phat comic book movie dough), but I enjoyed the Rhino being comic relief/ bit player in introducing the Sinister Six. All in all, I'd put it just behind Spidey 2, and even that is fading, as I find myself unable to really enjoy those films any more (I hate Tobey's stupid cryface).

Yeah, I used to get a little annoyed at CeeKay's apparent need to get the last word in some threads, but I really miss reading his posts now. I suppose the only way he could cut down his posting was to go cold turkey.
