Well, let me offer a sincere regret that he has died. He was probably the greatest Pop music artist to record, simply based off of his 70s-80s output. He was certainly strange, but from what I've read about his upbringing, that oddity is a by-product of a lost childhood and is irrelevant now. May he rest in peace.

I would say it was blah to the mediocre extreme. Not horrible, certainly not good, just forgettable in every way. The racist robots, the sub-juvenile humor (including the parents), the poorly executed action scenes (seriously, I would have appreciated knowing who were the Autobots and who weren't in half of those scenes. Unless it was Optimus or Bumblebee, I was often lost as to who was who), the lack of Megan Fox tit shots slywink, and overall non-existent character development made it a movie I was happy to see end. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but it was a helluva lot better than that beige piece of crap.

Ever since I saw Mia Wasikowska in "In Treatment", I've been really anticipating this movie. She was my favorite character in that show (aside from Gabriel Byrne, with whom she had amazing chemistry as a patient).

Depends, was it a wii game?

you can play with your Wii just fine while sitting down.

You know, it's hard to complain about them continually adding to the first game, but as someone who has finished it and doesn't see a huge need to replay it, I'd rather they devote their resources to the sequel.  Releasing yet another version (at least the 3rd in NA) looks a bit like overkill.

It's a DRM/CD check removal and some FAN made adventures.  Not sure how many resources that took to throw together.

Exactly!  It might have taken them all months of hard work, delaying the sequel even further!
 icon_lol

Still doesn't change my overall sense that they've ran with this particular game for about as long as they should.  Other devs don't announce a new version for when they release the patches that kill the copy protection or decide to offer some fan-made adventures.  They simply put them up on a website and let us have them if we want them.

Well, the first major overhaul was offered free for those who had purchased the first version, so I would imagine that this one would be too.

I really enjoyed it. I went in with no expectations and tried to meet the film on its own terms, and felt that pretty much all elements were handled greatly, from the cast to the pacing and even the feel of it. All I ask is that now that this universe is established, beef up the plot itself for the next movie and get a more charismatic bad guy. I would be happy to see Klingons.

One thing I didn't get- that ties into the whole pedophelia thing- is the odd occurrence of the visitor at oskar's dad's house.  Was he (the dad) setting oskar up to be raped?

But even if the subs are bad at some points, never watch a dubbed movie.

The dub wasn't controlled by the subtitle option, but rather the language option.

We watched the dubbed version simply because I couldn't switch the English off. I could toggle between three different sets of subtitles (English, English Narration, or Spanish), but I could not get the original language to play. The mismatch between the dubbing and the subtitles quickly made it obvious that we had the bad translation anyway.

I can only give it 3/5 stars. It might be a 4-star movie, but bad voice acting and untranslated text killed all nuance.

Network TV is a dinosaur. I'm willing to bet that within 15 years, none of the big 4 will look anything like what they've been in the past. Cable TV has changed the game forever by producing quality series and it will only increase from here.

There's a mixed track record for shows "by the producer of so and so mega hit TV series." A lot of time lightning only strikes once (Steven Botchco has all sorts of short lived, quickly canceled TV series to his credit though Hill Street Blues continues to buy him a lot of good will).

Well, that and NYPD Blue and L.A. Law. Those might have helped a bit, too.

-Autistic Angel

I bet they'll get a female comedian. That would make more sense considering that the original guys are going to have a lot of pull with the creation of the film.

It sounds as if the dubbers had never actually heard human speech and conversation prior to recording the track. It turns the movie almost into a comedy.
792  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Let the Right One In on: March 14, 2009, 03:49:45 PM
Just got this on BR and it was a beautiful film, one of the best I've seen in a while (not just out of "vampire" films but films, period). The central relationship was conveyed with such sweetness and honesty; the kids did a great job and didn't under or overdo it. Highly recommended to everybody (just turn on the Swedish audi track and the English subtitles, as the disc defaults to the English dub and different subtitles).

As for the remake, I hope that it never gets done. Apparently, Matt Reeves is involved with it, and he wants to make the characters a few years older, which would change the tone of the story dramatically. Damned Hollywood.

Led Zeppelin IV for me. I had a light rock childhood thanks to my Mom, so I never heard too much Zep, but hearing that album in its entirety about 10 years ago really made me a fan of them.

As for Springsteen, his sound changes from album to album, so it depends on whether you want to hear something similar or try out something new. For a hard rocking album, you could go with Born in the USA, Magic or his new one Working on a Dream. If you want some of his darker side, check out Nebraska. Either way, you owe it to your ears to get his triple live album. It is my standard for live recordings.

I just saw Zack & Miri and I came away feeling differntly. It was certainly crass and sometimes juvenile, but I felt that it was Smith's best work in years, at least since Chasing Amy. The dick and fart jokes didn't overwhelm the story and he even kept his pop culture references in check. I think it helped to have some real actors starring in it. Even his direction was much improved. *** from me slywink.
