The description of Darklands sounds fun, but the graphics are horrible by today's standards.

Shocker.

I feel the same way. There's no way I'll sign on for season 2 without them making some big changes in tone.

This show seems like the aliens killed everyone with IQ higher than 80. The amount of idiotic decisions made by these characters is staggering. Plus, I wanted a show about a band of resistance fighters bringing it to the alien overlords, not a weekly "where's my kid?" episode. It's about 90% "think of the children" and 10% "Noah Wyle and Moon Bloodgood flirt/banter", with a little action thrown in for good measure.

Don't be too sure; there's a huge market for "hirsute men laying on your grandma's rug" porn these days.

744  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome on: October 24, 2010, 10:35:51 AM
Now we're getting into "bad prequel" territory. It would be like the Star Wars prequels; where's the tension, since you know how things turn out? "Great battle, guys, but the Cylons are still gonna blow your worlds to shit". We know who lives and who dies, who's a Cylon, and all of that. I'd rather they just kept on doing Caprica, which is at least back far enough in the timeline and a different genre.

755  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: 2010, The Worst Movie Year Ever? on: August 02, 2010, 01:26:04 PM
Well, some of this can be blamed on the writers' strike from a couple of years ago, as that was the time that a lot of current movies were to be worked upon. Instead, studios had to hustle out some films and push other ones back. Personally, my summer has consisted solely of Inception and Toy Story 3, with a potential viewing of The Expendables soon. Maybe Salt, since my dad raved about it so much, though the trailer left me "blah".

have a nice collection, I still love my Kindle. I purchased Lord of the Rings for a song on it and it was such a joy to reread it without having to maneuver the large volume I have on my shelf. Plus, it's great for traveling, as it's so much easier to bring that rather than 3-4 books.

As for little known facts, the character of Tom Paris in Voyager was originally supposed to have been the same character from the TNG episode where Wesley graduates from Starfleet.  According to the Wikipedia article, the producers weren't happy with the character's lack of guilt in the TNG episode, so they created a new character with a similar past.

What I always heard was that the produces didn't want to pay royalties to the authors that created the original character, so they created Tom Paris.
758  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: Toy Story 3! on: June 27, 2010, 04:16:23 AM
I saw the film tonight and I loved it. It's always nice to visit with old friends, and the characters were pitch perfect, even after all of this time. A few things:

Spoiler for Hiden:
I did feel that there were a couple of moments that felt too dark for me in the film, specifically, the incinerator scene. It wasn't so much the mortal peril, as it was the toys resigning themselves to their doom. I understand that it was supposed to symbolize the characters' unity even in the face of certain death, but it just struck me as a little too morbid for this particular movie. I also wish that they would have revealed that Bonnie adopted Bo Peep, too, as I was sad that Woody lost his woman. Finally, it felt a little unfocused in parts, as there was so much going on, that the toys never got a real chance to slow down like they did in the first two.

All in all, I'd say 2>3>1.
