1  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Star Trek - Beyond on: July 28, 2016, 03:45:56 PM
Saw the film yesterday, the plot was certainly nothing special, but that might have been a boon, as it allowed more of a focus on the evolution of the characters, especially the big three. Chris Pine did an excellent subtly displaying the growing maturity of Kirk. He was actually thoughtful and even pensive at times, while Spock and McCoy were put together through most of the film to good effect. The action sequences were a lot of fun (which was no surprise Given Justin Lin's filmography), and I even enjoyed the (thankfully) few callbacks to the OG show, especially:

Spoiler for Hiden:
the photo young Spock found of the OG crew at the end

It was a little sad at first every time Chekov was on screen, but I soon let it go and just appreciated the performance. If there is another one, I hope they take it in the direction that they indicated they would in current interviews. A solid three star effort all around!

Frankly, I was surprised he was only 81. Figured he had to be in his 90s by now. In any case, he really played a part in shaping the entertainment landscape, especially television. I certainly loved watching his shows growing up. RIP, Garry!

Well RDJr has stated that he would now be up for another Iron Man, should Marvel be so inclined.
6  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [Movie]Captain America 3 on: May 16, 2016, 04:36:37 PM
Yeah, this movie is seriously amazing. It's funny how I never really cared about Captain America for most of my life, but the last two CA films are my favorites of the MCU.

11  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Terminator: Genesis + a TV series? on: January 23, 2016, 03:12:25 AM
The single redeeming feature of this film was Arnie's performance, which is ironic, considering he was what worried me the most going into it. What are they even fighting for at this point? Doesn't she still have to give birth to John? If so, are they going to try to prevent what happened? If they do, won't they undo what they did to Skynet? The whole thing was ridiculous. Plus, Hollywood needs to stop trying to make Jai Courtney a thing. It's not going to happen.
12  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: RIP - Alan Rickman on: January 14, 2016, 09:59:59 PM
Though he was hardly new to acting when he played Hans Gruber, the fact that it was his first theatrical film is pretty amazing. Only the good die young(ish),
13  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: [movie] Star Trek - Beyond on: January 14, 2016, 09:52:37 PM
As action films in space, I enjoy these films quite a bit. The actor's have good chemistry, and they've put together some great setpieces. As a lifelong Trekkie, these are not Star Trek films. I mean, the original films weren't always as philosophical/allegorical as the tv show, but then again, sometimes they were. These are just shallow, though well made, shoot-em-ups.

I'm surprised that there aren't more and more people simply waiting on the game of the year editions for Fallout/Elder Scrolls. This is especially true if you are a PC gamer. By that time the bugs have been worked out, the mod scene is in full force, and all of the official DLC is available.

This is one of those rare titles that only gets better with a reasonable amount of age.

I love the mods, and graphical and UI updates, etc., but there is something nice about playing the unaltered game. Plus, I don't have to fiddle with mod orders and compatibility issues
16  Non-Gaming / Off-Topic / Re: New Star Trek TV series coming 2017 on: November 07, 2015, 09:10:00 PM
Another divisive factor might be the choice of timeline that the show takes place in. With Orci producing, I would be surprised if it didn't take place in this new timeline, which a lot of folks do not like. Personally, I don't mind, as long as they use the opportunity to make new stories, not just riff off of the iconic characters and plots of the original timeline.

Time travel paradoxes have always been an issue for the series, but this one was just a total mess. Plus, digital Arnie looked like an action figure. Without spoiling anything really, I think the biggest winners from the events in this film were Sarah's original timeline roomie Ginger, and her boyfriend.

Well, I certainly have my differences with ATB's views occasionally, but he may just be annoyed with the media blitz surrounding Caitlyn's transformation, rather than the change itself (benefit of the doubt).

As I was reading that I kept expecting them to make fun of him or something.  I'm glad they didn't and it's just his quote.

I am sure that in business he was a jerk, mean, and hard to work with but what he has done since retiring is quite great.

I've always thought that he was probably a brilliant techie with limited social skills.

~20 years ago, I used to watch Coach when one of the local channels showed back-to-back reruns late at night. I remember enjoying it well enough, but it is such a random show to resurrect.

One of the worst experiences, and the one that made me start pre-ordering on Amazon, was when my son wanted a game for his Birthday. I went on the Gamestop site, found that a local store had them, and filled out the little reserve thing. I went to the store a few hours later and they said "Oh man, we sold out of that game a few minutes ago." I showed the guy my little reserve thingy and he said that it wasn't a guarantee. Then he asked me if I wanted to pre-order something. ARGH!

So you can take the game reservation, you just can't keep the game reservation.

Working at Targét, I am encouraged to offer guests our "Red Card". The thing is, if someone shops at Targets even a fair amount, 5% off of all purchases does add up over time, plus the free shipping, no fees, etc. The problem is that I am a terrible salesperson, as I take no for an answer. It's funny, because the most common reason I get for declining is that they are worried about identity theft. 9 times out of 10, they're telling me this as they're swiping a credit card through our machine.

40  Gaming / Portable Gaming & Apps / Re: NEW 3DS and XL on: February 15, 2015, 10:19:18 PM
The worst part of the name snafu is that most people who call into the store ask if we have the 3DSXL in stock, which we do, just not the "NEW NEW" 3DSXL, since everyone was calling the old one the new one, as it replaced the smaller version. I know that the guests calling in want the new system, but we had an inexperienced team member working in Electronics who told a few guests over the phone that we do indeed have the 3DSXL in stock. Those people came to the store, only to find out that it's the wrong one. What a fustercluck.
